Hi all
I am a little bit confused?
I got my gf (girlfriend) a motorola atrix from website called PANAMOZ when it arrived I found out it was ME860 (HKTW) not MB860 (ATT 4G)
Some of the stuff was in chinese like keyboard etc etc.
I was going to get her a SGS II same as what I have but she said it was too big for her.
Now the problem I have got is it is running android 2.2.2 and my SGS II is on android 2.3.4
How can I get the motorola atrix ME860 on android 2.3.4?
Do I root it, sbf it via RSD lite, unlock bootloader (if so how),fastboot vol up vol down, etc etc.
I have been reading for 2 days on xda forum and I think I am going to go crazy!
My last moto was the wings! and with my nokia's, HTC, iphones, Blackberry's and Samsung's I have not had any problems updating to latest official or un-official firmware.
So all I would like is some help and support for you guys to get the atrix ME860(HKTW) on gingerbread 2.3.3 or 2.3.4
She is not interested in all types of mods or flashing custom roms every other week!
Just a stable phone that won't let her down and yet be SMART.
Thank you in advance for all your help-advice-tutorials-link
Go to Motorola.com find the atrix and ask them how to update, if your not trying to unlock or root. They should be able to help you.
My overclocked alien atrix
Thank you for your input, I don't mind rooting/unlocking it, its just I don't want to end up bricking it.
I have been reading about using RSD and putting on 1.2.6 then root but when I try that, RSD lite just says fail. When I try the HKTW sbf (4.0.500) it does work but it gives me android 2.2.2 froyo on chinese firmware.
I live in UK and don't mind installing US, UK, EU firmware/sbf its just working out how and in what order I need to do this. I have managed to root it using gingerbreak 1.20apk
your further input is most appreciated thank you.

What happens when you just check for software update in the settings?
If that doesn't work then another option I suggest is to fruitcake up.
1. unlock your bootloader (follow the instructions in the International House of Pudding thread in development).
2. Install RomRacer's Recovery (also in development forum)
3. download the HKTW fruitcake in samcripp's fruitcake thread
4. install fruitcake via recovery you installed in step 2

will have a look a fruitcake
Many thanks
It sounds like you/your girlfriend don't really need to unlock (which may or may not be safe with the ME860, since it is a different device).
What I would do is search for 2nd init and get the 2.3.4 HKTW sbf and use the /system from that build. Unfortunately you cannot flash it directly since it is test-keys signed not signer for end user use. You're going to have to do some digging around to find all the stuff you need. Your other option is to unlock and flash the /system and boot.img through fastboot.
Or you can learn Mandarin / Chinese and surf the HKTW forums to see if they can give you an (un)official HKTW sbf/rom.

Hello XDA,
I am new to the world of unlocked bootloaders. I just traded in my overheating Droid X2 for the Rezound, and I want to know what I need to do in order to root my phone, flash appropriate kernels, and get on the ICS de-Sensed ROM by newtoroot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481408). Like I said, I've never had a phone with an unlocked bootloader before, and so am used to just flashing ROMs from the System Recovery app. What should I flash? What method of rooting should I use? Links to guides would be much-appreciated.
Thanks,
ramchand917
Did you not see the thread that said [GUIDE] Super-noob guide to unlocking, rooting, and flashing Ziggys kernel that was stickied in the Android Dev section went you went looking for a ROM?
Skip step 4 if you have the OTA update and root from Amon Ra in Recovery. Other than that, have fun and have a blast with this beast of a phone.
Hi so i have this atrix and i want to root it and install a rom (i need powerswitchers in notifications bar and hdmi mirroring)
I dont know what version i have ,my phone is an european and the back has no att on it build number = 4.5.2a-74_ole-31.1 android version :2.3.4
So my question is what do i need to do to have the posibility to install roms do i need to unlock the bootloader and if yes whichi guide is the right one for me ?
In the past i had a moto defy and a htc desire z i rooted and flashed roms on both of them but this one is very different ,please help me
some one...?
Don't have the link handy, but I unlocked my international Atrix a couple months back on 2.3.6 GB and did it all following a step by step video on YouTube. Search for "Atrix Unlock Bootloader" ETC. The video that I followed was for the Canadian Bell version, but others claimed that it worked on other international versions too. The files/instructions you need are all in the video description too.
Basically in a nutshell, you are gonna install "IHOP" (AKA Pudding) there's threads for that here. That unlocks the BL, and you can start installing ROMs. After you do that, you'll probably want to install CM7 (which to the best of my knowledge has your HDMI Mirroring and other goodness). On a side note CM7 just released the "stable" version a couple of days back so your timing couldn't be better to do all of this...

Good news I still have the video bookmarked on my computer and this is the video that I used.
It's a 4 part video and DEFINITELY WATCH ALL 4 PARTS BEFORE EVEN STARTING. Also as the video states, make sure your phone is fully charged. Couple of side notes, the guy used Win 7 in the video and I did this successfully on XP. Also he's on 2.3.4 and I still was able to do this on 2.3.6.
Finally I have an extra guide link that I used while watching the video. Anything that didn't make sense to me in the video, was cleared up in the guide.
With all of that, you and anybody else still needing to do this should be all set...
follow these instructions, i only just rooted, unlocked, and installed CM9 on my Atrix 4G (EU) yesterday, it worked perfectly!

Hey guys, i originally own a samsung galaxy ace and i've never ever ventured into the world of unlocked bootloaders and fastboot...My friend just got a new motorola Atrix 4G and it came with v4.5.141 OUT-OF-THE-BOX. I read the sticky in the development section warning not to update OTA to 4.5.141 but my question is, is there any way to unlock the bootloader on this phone which had the version pre-installed?
I'm an absolute n00b to bootloader unlocking and fastboot so if anyone could give a proper explanation, it would be greatly appreciated...

I found this post on Atrix Forums that only says if you have Gingerbread. I unlocked my Atrix recently, and I'd been running 2.3.6 for quite some time. My phone was originally the 2.2 I believe (it's been a little while), but the instructions there worked like a charm.
Best bet: Before doing anything, read all the instructions very very very carefully.

The warning is about flashing the previous SBF over the current one.
This is a warning that multiple users, including myself, have hard bricked their devices by SBF flashing to 1.8.3 after installing an official 4.5.91 update.

So, do NOT try to flash the SBF for 4.1.83 or 4.1.57 (both are Froyo) over the current 4.5.91 (Gingerbread). In fact, it's best not to flash any SBF at all if you can avoid it. There is one that's required to unlock the boot loader, but this is a file that was leaked from Motorola specifically to unlock the boot loader. If your phone works right and you follow the instructions, you should have no problems. (EDIT: I seem to have read somewhere that the SBF file for unlocking the phone was a leak, but I could be wrong here.)
Remember: There is always risk in bricking or breaking your phone. Every set of instructions I've come across says it, whether they be automated or manual.
Maybe Hard Brick
I had Atrix 4g OTA to 4.5.141, then Unlocked bootloader using script 4.2, then trid to rSD back but choose the wrong file i think it was 4.5.91 not my Atrix says failed boot 1 starting fastboot support, and when i try to RSD the 4.5.141 sbf i get RSD unable to retrieve interface handle error. any thoughts?
I know that every method works for each version of your android system, I rooted my phone, I guess the next step is to install the boot Menu Manager, I am new @ motorola phones, I come from Samsung Droid Charge, I would like to install a fully working debloated rom, I currently have the latest update 4.1.2.
I am lost, but I know I have root, I just checked with root checker.
Please help me !!
Hi. Go to your browser and install safestrap 3.11. After that, just find a ROM and follow instructions. There's a guy named Tom on YouTube who has some good 'how-to' videos. Don't use ROM manager or ROM toolbox. They arent very reliable or up to date. Titanium backup is a good purchase that helps. Have fun and whatever you do, keep and backup your stock ROM!

you just check out droidrzr.com they are dedicated to xt 912 cdma and have lots of good support and live chat support as well. incase nobody helps you here
Is ROM Toolbox still a good/safe app for debloating my stock ROM?
I came from an HTC Thunderbolt and this phone is already very different.
Also, does anyone know of an EXTREMELY STABLE ROM that is 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for this XT912?
i wouldnt suggest using rom tool box. motorola have locked bootloaders things are done differently with them while samsung and htc and others have unlocked bootloader. this is where motorola gets tricky the website i referred to you have an active chat and lots of good support if you post there. somebody will respond to you fast.
razr is kind of dead in forums because of how difficult motorola is development. it really is painful.

I kinda figured it was.
Having to use the Smart Actions app during the root process is what made me think... wtf? Lol.
Check out the CM 10.1 and Avatar ROMs is you are going for a Jelly Bean rom. So far i have liked them. FYI, i just rooted my razr a few weeks ago as well. I am loving it.
