Hi guys.
I found today at local retailer Atrix with Laptop dock at a price of 370€.
http://www.electroworld.sk/product/...ily/MOTATRIXLAP/motorola-atrix-mobil-lap-dock
I have a HTC Desire Z for almost a year now and would like to upgrade.
Is this a good choice? It's a better hw, I pretty love the webtop idea.
It's not Asus PadPhone (I will miss a tablet possibility), but I will get instead a laptop and hdmi+bt keyboard+touchpad comfort.
My questions to the Atrix community are:
1) is it possible to get HDMI + bluetooth keyboard with touchpad working without any hacks? Just out of the box?
2) what are the news about ICS upgrade? I have seen som official motorola page that said it's in "evaluation", but the US version has a plan for Q2(3?) Also some webtop 3.0 video is on youtube (think from RAZR)
3) are there any glitches that I should be aware before buying? What makes you feel so bad, you would not buy it now?
4) any other useful user experiences
Thanks a lot.
I dont know all the answers, but from my experience:
1.- Works on ICS betas, have never tried it with the GB based ROMS
2.- There is a good chance the official ICS will be out in the next 2-3 months from Moto. The video is from a Razr ICS leak showing that it essentially is done away with Webtop as it was, and now runs ICS full screen.
3.- I've had the device for 3-4 months now I guess, coming off a I4. I have been playing with Android OS since the nook color got hacked to run it, and run it on a HP Touchpad as well as the nook color and now my Atrix. My only caveat with the Atrix is I really dislike the power button location. That said, I just setup to use my volume rocker to wake the device, and so I rarely hit the power button at all anymore.
4.- Current ICS betas are all quite nice, but the things that dont work can be irritating. The main issue for myself was browser rotation and video camera support being slow/inconsistent. I have used Neutrino ROM and stock CM7 and liked them both. I prefer Neutrino these days because I like a clean minimalistic OS, but your mileage may vary there. That said once ICS is out in force and drivers are updated, I will be hauling ass to ICS as I prefer it a LOT more than GB.

Use unlocked Atrix 4G from canada in india
(Sorry to hijack the thread. I need to decide very quickly and cant start a new thread as i'm a new member)
Hi All,
I'm planning to buy a unlocked Atrix 4G from canada and use it in India.
(my cousin will be coming from canada in few days)
I got the online deal from newegg.ca at $360. (still a new member so cant paste link here)
Here are few questions I have:
1. I'm pretty sure it is a good deal, but can someone confirm if its worth buying at apprx $360 ?
2. Apart from no radio, does it have any other major cons that I should be aware of?
3. I love to flash/root my phones for complete customizations, i've seen a lot of really cool custom roms in the Atrix 4G forum here. But in some forums I read the bootloader is locked for some phones. my question is, is already unlocked for a unlocked phone? if not, is it easily unlockable?
4. (Dumb question at last ) Will there be official ICS update for Atrix 4G? I dont plan on using the official one, but I hope there will be enough awesome custom roms based on official one.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Arpit

Config specs of Atrix 4G seem pretty capable to run all kind of high graphic games.
Just want to confirm if it has no issues running any games.

hello guys , right now i'm a htc wildfire s owner and i'm looking to replace it with a new android device ( better hardware ) and iam very confused between 2 devices the Motorola Atrix 4g and the Sony Xperia Sola but i kinda like the Atrix because of this huge forum there is alot of Roms and stuff but i wanted u Atrix owners to help me explain some points
- i read here on xda that all the new Atrix devices well not be unlocked link here sooo is that true ?
- if i bought this device i think i'll unlock it after a couple weeks and if i wanted to know what isn't exactly working in the CM9 rom cuz it's my favorite and does toggling bluetooth and wifi force restart the device ( ohhh god i sufferd this issue with my wfs ) and does the HDMI port work with ICS based roms ? !!
- is there a webtop for ics roms ?
- in worst cases is CM7 fully working ? !! ( stable ) cuz i can't imagine my self stuck with the orginal rom
that's it for now, thank u guys in advance hope to to join u soon
The Sola and Atrix are both damn good phones, The Sola looks nice, has a good(similar to i9100)chipset, better camera, better screen and the Atrix has more functionality (TegraZone, webtop, docks, 1gb ram etc)
The Atrix also has a lot more development going on at the moment, compared to the Sola and the latest CM7.2 build runs perfectly on the Atrix.
But it's up to you.
Edit( whether it is "un-lockable" depends on where you buy it from, yes the newer ones aren't, but they still have the initial batches floating around)

well thank's to you mate , but are u sure the sola has a better screen compared to the atrix ( the atrix has a higher ppi and res !! ) and u said it's wether unlockable or not depeinding on where i buy i don't relly get what u mean but i'll be buying it from egypt and not from a specific carrier soo it's not locked for a certain carrier and can u please provide me with any information about what's not working in the cm9 build and most important the HDMI out ....

Resolution of the screen is really nice but for me personally a little too high for a 4" screen.
But the main problem is the colours it produces. Blacks aren't completely black they have a slight brownish greyish look to them. The other colours in general look washed out. Doesn't bother me too much but when comparing to other phones the difference in colours is instantly noticeable.
The atrix hardware is nice. Will run anything you throw at it. We have a very nice stable cm7.2 rom
If I were you I would wait a little while longer to see if Motorola release official ICS for the atrix before buying one unless you don't mind sticking with gingerbread.

Atrix is a very solid phone, and I would take it over the Sola.
You have GB/CM7 for now, and CM7 is very stable. ICS coming sometime in QTR 3...

Well the screen is also smaller on the sola, and it has a full set of sub pixels as well as the bravia engine.
The Atrix has a pentile matrix, so even though there is more pixel density, the pentile matrix makes individual pixels more visible.
Well since you're buying in egypt, there probably is a chance your local store has the initial-release stock of the atrix. But there is no garuntee, I bought a second atrix (for a friend), here in New Zealand a few weeks ago and it was unlockable,
I personally haven't tried ICS or JB because im more interested in a working phone (LOL), I don't like having to toy around with things that only work half the time and/or not at all, thats why I try to stay away from the roms until they're stable.....But still, support the developers for their hard work, even if you aren't using their roms just yet (they all look promising).
there are a lot of things not working in the CM9/CM10 roms, that even the devs can't list them all, and a lot of functionality is software-based because there is no driver support for hardware until next month or so, when we get the official ICS from Moto.
The phone works great on CM7 if you're willing to buy it now.
Prefer to buy Galaxy Nexus, S2, Notes, etc... for most update ROM is already there.
if my Atirx will be broken, I Will buy another Atrix. This is one of the greates devices, fingerprint lock, webtop, and many more Especialy Tegra2 and 1GB RAM

okay your totally right the Galaxy nexus is a great phone but comparing the prices here where is live the atrix sells for 2000 EGP and the nexus for 3500 EGP so there is a huge difference that i can't afford right now and there is also a thing that i don't like about all the nexuses ( except the nexus one ) which is there is no SD Card ..... i can't really imagine my life without an SD Card
I'm considering the same 2 phones. Which phone did you buy, the Xperia Sola or the Atrix?
Atrix
the Atrix is still one of the best phones I have ever owned, and the accessories are great and probably much cheaper now
Like people have said before, cm7 works perfectly. But there is not gonna be any ics for this phone from motorola. The devs are working on jellybean right now. Epinter's cm10 is pretty much a daily driver with hw acceleration issues because of no drivers for kernel. Apart from that its a great rom.

Problem is that there will never be any official ICS from Motorola, and unless the Olympus ICS/JB kernel port is successful, it's likely there will never be any third party HW acceleration either. And yes, there is talk of Motorola releasing the code for the unfinished ICS kernel, but talk is one thing, but I wouldn't bet the farm on seeing it happen any more than I'd bet on a dead horse winning the Kentucky Derby.
Sure the device itself isn't bad, but the only support you will get for the device is dependent on a dwindling community. Honestly, if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have just gotten something different, I would have ran away from the thing screaming like a little girl.
I have googled the atrix 4g and its lapdock all week long and I still cant exactly know.
Can I have a really stable ICS or JB working with the lapdock function..
Can I really improve the lapdock functions like adding more applications and so..
do you recomend buying an atrix 4g and a lapdock now. prices phone about 170$ dock about 60$
if i recall right the ics-webtop (at least the one for leaked razr ics) was just some tablet-like android interface, so real linux interface anymore.
take a look here:
don't know if our atrix will get a real linux interface or just some bigger android screen like the razr, but if you really want some linux interface on your lapdock you could use chroot envoirnment ant vnc-server but this does not quite serve much usability as it's a real ressource hog and allover quite slow.
regarding jellybean: i really doubt that we will ever see android 4.1 as an official update. custom roms based on ics driver is a totally other sory,
well, on a blurbased rom you can actually install a genntoo or debian/ubuntu enviornment and ise almost every program that can be natively run on this architecture (ARM7) so yes you can take that webtop thing to a totally new level, but i think this will be limited to froyo/gingerbread and not be availlable for ics/jb roms, but we will see if moto can please us.
regarding the question weather to buy or not to buy:
well this device may be outdated and lacking update support (moto takes its time as usual, but at least this quater we will get one for ics, if other updates will come ... well we will see but i guess we will have to wait looong time), but apart from that this is still some neat device.
but here one question: where would you want to get an atrix for 170 bucks? this thing should still cost about 100 bucks more
if you can get this device for just 170 i guess this would be a good deal, since ics update is just around the corner.

For me, since i got my device used, and the last owner already upgraded to 2.3.6 and got the bootloader to be un-unlockable as of right now. Personally i would not update to ICS if i dont get the full webtop.
If you have an unlockable bootloader, I am sure eventually the current webtop can be moved to ICS roms even if the official moto update switch to the tablet interface.

Just have a few questions and looking for some candid insights about this phone. I have combed through the Atrix 4g forums quite a bit so Ill try not to ask redundant stuff. I am a seasoned with Android and XDA from a Root, Unlock, ROM etc standpoint. I'm more interested in Atrix specifics. This phone is for my mom who is not tech savvy and is new to Android.
Here is the use case...
- Stability and usability is key
- Need full Google apps functionality
- Google Voice - Main number has been ported there
- GPS / Navigation
- Camera and Video for Grand kids, etc
- Not interested in the Webtop or Fingerprint features
One thing I am noticing is that while there is a CM10 unofficial, it may be better to stay on CM7 or even stock due to not having any of the Moto source stuff etc. I ordered the phone for $209 on BestBuy.com and am wondering if I made a mistake. So here are the questions:
- Should I get a different phone? I have not picked it up at Best Buy yet. If I am making a mistake then please tell me and Ill get a different phone.
- Assuming I keep it, which ROM is ideal for this scenario? Leaning toward CM7 port but would prefer CM10 if viable.
- If I go with CM10 does the 3rd party camera work good enough for descent pics / video?
- What your your general thoughts about the prospects for this phone? Are they moving to paperweight status in the next 6-12 months?
Thanks in advance.
CM7 is great, but just stick to stock, it has everything you need.
CM10 doesn't have HWA so things like video recording are not stable. If that is a concern, stay away, otherwise it's very stable.
Atrix would be good enough for your needs. Personally, if I were to shop for a phone *today* it would be a used nexus s, GSII/III, or maybe the new nexus 4.
(edited to be more clear)

To clarify, CM10 has no proper video hardware acceleration. Camcorder is just one of the things affected, there are others too - namely games but some apps as well.

After further thought I decided to get a Nexus S instead and canceled the Atrix. It's ashamed too because the potential of the Atrix hw is enormous. I'm pretty much done with Motorola based on how they repeatedly screw the Android community. Pretty ironic considering their owner...

Hi,
So I got my wife a new SGH-T989 and received as an inheritance a Motorola Atrix.
I have two questions:
1)
I don't know whether I should use it or continue using my extremely sluggish Motorola Defy. The main objection to switching is that I don't treat phones nicely: I check my phone for messages when I go out of the pool dripping wet, I run with my phone in an armband that can get pretty dump and in general I don't watch my phone quite carefully.
How rugged / durable is the Atrix? Will it sustain such misbehavior?
2)
Assuming I'll switch phones, I would like to pick a ROM according to the following priorities:
A) Stable.
B) Fast.
C) has Hebrew support.
Which ROM would you recommend? A possible answer is just to stay with the current version (for example, if no ROM is really stable).

There are lots of stable roms for the Atrix... personally I'd recomend that you install CM7 latest nightly (http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=olympus), you'll find information about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325943. Also, you'll be able to overclock your phone and that will make it even more fast than it already is. Hebrew language can be selected in the settings as well.
As for your shoddy treatment of your phones and will the Atrix last... who knows? Best thing would be to modify your behaviour
Cynagonmod 7 or 10?
Hi,
I've just browsed Cynagonmod website and it seems there is an Atrix version of Cynagonmod 10.
How stable is it? How fast, compared to Cynagonmod 7? Does it support Hebrew as well?
Thanks ahead!
CM10 is fast & stable, however video recording doesn't work properly. You can use videocam illusion from play store. Not sure about Hebrew tho...

Hi guys
I currently have a SGSII t989 and I love it except for little things I noticed, one is this behaviour [1], I'm planning selling it to buy another cellphone with similar specs. What I'm looking for is:
- 1.2 GHz processor or more
- 1GB RAM
- TV output (via MHL or dedicated port)
- [Desireable] Removable battery (I know Droid Razr doesn't have it)
- MicroSD slot
- Screen range: 4.3" - 4.5"
- Good ROM's support
- Price range: US 250 - US 300
I'm considering buy one between Motorola Droid Razr, SGSII i777 (AT&T's) and HTC Rezound and want to know your thoughts being Droid Razr owners. I have some questions for you:
- Is this device bootloader locked? (I had a Defy and it had that issue)
- Is the non-removable battery an issue for you?
- Have you tried GTA Vice City? In my T989 it doesn't work apparently because of processor-chipset combination. I want to use the most of games that the device can support and this is one of my favorites games
- Will you recommend this phone?
- If you use CM 10.1, does HDMI out working?
Thanks in advance

- BL was locked, but no need to worried about that.
- Not an issue actually,if you buy a RAZR MAXX,you can use for more than 4 days with D-WIZ ROM.
- Almost every game works.I tried GTA,Real Race,MASS EFFECT,Tample run,doodle jump,Angry brids,Fruit ninjia,they all works perfectly.
- It's a great phone.
- HDMI seems not working with CM10.1,but you can use both STOCK SYSTEM and CM10.1.No need to be worried.

Hi 我顶你个肺隔膜,
i have even the opportunity to by an razr droid.
Actually i use my HD2 since 4 years nearly. There was a very huge dev community. And i got everything to configure.
Now my question:
Is there a rom without the motorola implemented stuff, like a pure android rom without modifications of motorola, which runs stable?
(On HD2 i had 100s roms but only some roms worked without problems and with all functions and features.)
Go for iut

For the specs you need. I'd suggest it a go..You can buy it and won't face a problem.
As for your questions,
Yes.! The BL is locked but that ain't an issue for me.
Non-removable battery doesn't cause any problems.
Yes.! And it works..so does most of the games.
Already answered.
CM 10.1 is in development state right now so many things might not work. You gotta wait for a stable build.

Hey Guys, not to thread-jack, but I've also been considering the Droid RAZR and, like OP, had some questions so I thought I'd just post them here.
I was wondering if there are any general hardware problems with the phone. For example, I used to have the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, and it had a hardware bug where the GPS basically never got a solid lock, I also had a Motorola Defy, and I heard some people had problems with the earpiece sound quality, although mine didn't have that problem. So I guess my question is, are there any flaws in the design of the phone that can't be fixed by software?
Also, how do AOSP-based ROMs run on it? I saw that CM10.1 has a couple bugs, of which the random reboots is the only one that worries me (though I'm sure the devs are hard at work on it!) but is there another version of CM, like CM10 (ICS) that runs better? Are the reboots actually often?
Finally, is anyone here using the XT910 on AT&T? if so, is it detected by AT&T's system as a smartphone? I'm using a Lumia 710 right now that doesn't get detected, so I'm not being forced into getting a data plan, and I'd like to stay that way .
Thanks a lot in advance!, and sorry for the noobish questions, I'm still relatively new to the Motorola scene.
PS: Is there any reason why I shouldn't consider the RAZR? I'm just trying to get the best bang-for-buck that works with AT&T 3G without requiring a data plan, so top-notch performance isn't really my goal.
phantomsniper773, your questions are more than welcome in this thread, it can help me too for choose my next cellphone (already sold the S2 Hercules). Right now I'm thinking more in HTC Rezound that in Razr because of few reviews and the battery thing, I think that eventually in some time (1-2 years) the battery become useless and there will be no replace (worst scenario) and I'll have to sell the phone for a very low price

Right now I'm thinking more in HTC Rezound that in Razr because of few reviews and the battery thing, I think that eventually in some time (1-2 years) the battery become useless and there will be no replace (worst scenario) and I'll have to sell the phone for a very low price

Ah, well I can't speak for the Rezound myself, but a friend of mine had it and hated it (he exchanged it for a Galaxy Nexus). He said it had really choppy performance and felt too bloated, even with a Custom Sense-based ROM. Of course, this was before they had S-OFF and AOSP ROMs, so I'm sure a lot has changed since then. I just thought I'd mention it.
