suggestions - Sony Tablet S

Ok well I want to know if its woth the update to ics? Im running a root version oh honey... everithing running smooth, and I want to know from people that have the ics working good and like I said if itrs worth the update and if it can be rooted yet? Also could u posibly point the way on how to update to ics safely with honeycomb root sony t. S (3.2.1 release 2) @build5 #1 thanks...

I think it is worth the update. ICS still has a few annoying little quirks, but its a lot smoother on the Tablet S and just all around nice to look at.
You can use condi's tool to update to a pre-rooted version of ICS, just make sure you follow the directions very carefully.

You can safely update to unrooted ICS from rooted Honeycomb without any problems, but once you have unrooted ICS you will no longer be able to root your tablet until a new exploit is found. So if you really want root, condi's tool is the way to go when you upgrade to ICS. Good luck!

[Q] Root now or wait for Android 2.3 ?

I am running stock samsung firmware on the T-Mobile Vibrant.
I had been holding off on rooting/rom-ming it because i was afraid of bricking.
I think i want to root now for 2.2, and have been going over the forums.
However, I need a method of rooting which will also support my upgrading to a 2.3 rom later on when it is released. Because according to what i have read, the safest way to get to 2.3 would be to to go back to a stock 2.1 and then repeat whatever steps are given.
TL;DR: I need an easy point which gets me to Froyo right now which will aslo get me to Honeycomb later without too much brickage chances and complications. Thanks
You can root keeping the stock rom and still receive the OTA updates

There is a ton of info on this site to assist IF you want to install a custom ROM. There is a great video that shows you a lot of what you need to do to be able to install the ROM. Take a look around and read read read. It is a fairly simple task and I have tried to brick my phone and ODIN has always come to the rescue!http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821468

[Q] if i root my tab, will i still get samsung updates??

Im a student and im planing on using my tab for classes (taking notes, etc). I found this really good app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.writepad but it says that galaxy 10.1 owners must root their device to install (touchscreen tune) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vital&hl=en
I really need this app, but i don't know if once rooted I'll be able to update to ice cream sandwich or any other future updates. Can anyone tell me if I'll be able to update?? Any help will be great!

If you root you will not get the OTA updates. CM9 will be out for rooted tabs way before the OTA update (not to mention that it will probably be vastly superior), so you'll get ICS, just not from Samsung...
I was able to update from 3.1 to 3.2 via Kies' after rooting. I just lost root, had to reroot... Though, honestly, I cannot fathom a reason to take an update loaded with tons of bloat when there are 100% better roms available here to flash in - and painlessley I might add.
Thanks for the answers, do you know if a rom for ics is abailable? and do uknow of any good roms?

No stable ICS ROMS yet - keep an eye in the Development section below for updates.
You have to match the ROM with your device. I have a wifi only Tab, so I use Galaxy Task V10.
there are ics roms....just have some bugs...

Latest Info. on Rooting .62?

Hi all,
I was thinking it might be useful to put info. here on this, rather than 5 different threads. There are quite a few of us on the previous firmware and want to update but want root and perhaps don't want to try that over-the-air (OTA) trick to keep root.
Does anyone know are there any successful rooting tricks, or is it just OTA?
OTA isn't a big trick, just updating the firmware over the phone's internet(WiFi or 3G).
Any rumors about directly rooting .62 soon?
I cannot update via OTA because I have recovery and I don't want to remove it

I just ran through all the Sony Ericsson forums and found no real advancement...the Arc section they are using .ftf files PRErooted ...that's a nice advancement. I still look forward to the next easy method though. When I bought my first SE Android-version phone in 2010 it was exactly like this, it takes some time for the newer official firmware to be rooted, so I'm relaxed about it.

Upgrading to ICS question...

Hi, so I see that ISC is now available for this tablet. I have my sony tablet s rooted. would upgrading from the tablet kills the root? if so, how do I upgrade while keeping my tablet rooted?
i think so but just to be sure just wait till someone on here got the rooted version of ICS so you can be certain!
You can download ICS and root via Condi's AIO v2.7 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515720
Good luck,
I am stuck with kernal10 for now.

[Q] Rooting SK17i - how? And will I still get ICS?

Hi everybody! I've tried clicking the search button but it's not working for me
How do I root my 0.62 firmware Mini Pro, and will I still be able to get the official ICS release from Sony?
You need to downgrade to .58 firmware, root and then update via OTA so that way youll get a .62 rooted fw, and yes, you'll be able to get ICS update as long as you dont have unlocked bootloader
you are probably new here or havent noticed that, there are now way of rooting .62 yet. the solution is go back to previous or older firmware such as .42, .58 then root will work.
if your phone is rooted, yes you can still update it to ics without unrooting it but the root will probably gone after you update to ics. but no worry about that there already a thread somewhere of how to root ics xperia
Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I think I'll wait for ICS and then root it. No point going through all that hassle only to have it un-root.
Also, I'm very security conscious and Flashtool seems to contain a virus. I know everybody says it's a false-positive and that the exploit is just needed to get root control over the phone. I can understand that. But what's to stop the developer introducing malicious code for bragging rights or whatever?
I'm not saying they did, I'm just saying that I wouldn't know if they did...
