Go to 2:38. I take it this will limit the aftermarket battery cover options?

It's not on the back cover, but rather in the battery. It may just be that the RFID antenna is in the battery and the actual electronics is in the SoC or as a seperate discrete chip inside the phone itself.
NFC is definitely on the battery itself

Add an antenna to it?
(I.e. as far as i know this hasn't been a problem for the Galaxy Nexus 3rd party battery manufacturers)

Yup! But I think that maybe just an antenna for the actual chip which is on the phone's motherboard.
out of curiosity where does other mobile manufacturers place their nfc chip?

In my Note, the chip is on the inside back cover.
The mobile integrates the NFC antenna with the mobile battery. Therefore, you have to use the original battery unless you have purchased customized NFC antenna for the cover of the Samsung mobile.

Hi All,
I have a Touch HD and I am looking at replacing my battery, as I have one of the first released and the battery has come to the end of its useful life.
I have noticed that the genuine HTC 1350mV part no: 35H00120-01M has 2 metal contacts on the top right and left corners of the flat side of the battery.

All the non-genuine batteries do not have these 2 metal 'contacts' on the flat side of the battery.
When I put a multimeter across them, it shows that they are connected to each other, but not connected to the actual battery terminals. By that I mean, there is no voltage drop when I connect one of these terminals to any one of the main power terminals of the battery.
I have looked at the HTC_Blackstone_Service_Manual and it shows that these contacts connect to a metal plate. This plate could be a shield or a heat sink for the battery.
Can anyone advise me just what are these 2 contacts used for?
Are they necessary?
Will my reception suffer, if I use a non genuine battery such as one of the extended batteries?
If all 3rd party batteries don't come with these, can I assume they are not needed?
If they are not needed, then why did HTC see fit to have them in place?
Thank you in advance.
David
I guess this is for grounding purposes.
i am currently using a after market replacement battery, there is no such 2 metal 'contacts' on the battery. The replacement battery works very well with my phone. It is even works better than genuined one

Anyone know what the contacts by the SIM slot are for?
Looks like only the Verizon version has these.
All other versions have the wireless charging contacts to the left of the battery,
but not these next to the SIM slot.
Inductive charging contact pins.
See video for more info (Hardware section at around 1:40).

2 sets of wireless charging contacts?
It's been confirmed that the ones to the left of the battery are for wireless charging here:
Be wierd to have one wireless charging system that everyone can use (except Japan), and another wireless charging system that only Verizon customers can use.

Yeah, I saw that video too. But it makes me wonder if he got those contacts' purpose mixed up with the other ones cause of the other video showing the wireless charing in operation.

Ah, I see. I've never used the tech before, so I'm honestly not sure myself. But I remember seeing that video and thought that's what it is for.
Thanks for the info.
I've not used the tech either, but I thought I might try it once the Samsung version becomes available (depending on price).
Might be for this type of accessory

I have a spare P6800...the screen is cracked and the Sim port is somewhat damaged.
Otherwise the unit still works, I am willing to sell it for the spare parts if you are interested.

It's only 100mAh more than the previous version but the processor sips on battery compared to the Note 2. I haven't fully charged my phone yet to find out. I've been keeping my battery at between 40%-80% to increase the lifetime of the battery while my replacement/IDGAF batteries come in.

has anyone tried the aftermarket battery doors? what i want to do is just get a door that actually protects the camera portion of the phone so i can put the phone down easily without worrying. the reason why i want to avoid a case is because i love the slimmness of the phone. dont want ANY bulk at all. an aftermarket battery door that is slightly thicker to compensate for the camera offset would really help. anyone used those?
Lots of threads here in the accessory section, you just have to look and read. The Samsung Qi battery door is thicker than the stock Samsung door
