Random question from a Nexus owner - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do the Wifi and Signal bars turn from grey to blue on the ICS Touchwiz software like they do on the Nexus indicating its connected to Googles servers or are they always grey?
Only reason I ask is I bought my Mrs an S2 yesterday, upgraded it to ICS and can see the bars stay grey.
Thanks in advance
Stret

The S2 doesn't have aosp ICS, but it has a skin on top. It doesn't have that functionality, along with a few additions and subtractions

[Q] solutions for wifi connection problem

HTC Amaze stock rom;
it seems have wifi connection issue at home: after wifi connected, few mins later, wifi still shows connected, but no internet activities were allowed;
see people has similar issue on other sites, does anyone have a solution for it?
also the connection speed went to 1Mbps for no reason. the router should be good, has ipad and desktop PC wirelessly connected all the time, didn't see any kind of drop or anything.
will ICS release to fix this? does anyone know? ROM issue? thanks
I still have the issue with ICS. But I'm using a Custom Rom, Energy to be exact. I had the WiFi issue with this phone since day one. It connects fine but certain times it will show a connection but no data will come through. My wife has the GS2 and she has great WiFi connection all the time. So I'm not sure where the issue lies. I'm also using a TPU case and a Trident Aegis Case at times.
Contemplating on returning to Stock ICS soon just for s&g's

thanks for the reply. I guess no hope for 21st's ICS then; if not, I propobably will consider to sell it. now I understand why the guy sold me that he wanted a ONe S.

I never had that problem on GB or ICS.
The 21st ota has already been leaked. Go to dev section and member Football has 2 leaked ROMs. The newer is what is what is being released on 21st

Labiker, do you have the latest stock ICS release from football? It's in the dev forums. I don't have WiFi issues, but I recommend testing your WiFi on other networks see if you have the same issue if you haven't tried that already. And in my opinion I would say stay away from energy ROM It's known to have WiFi issues when some sort of update is released for it I would probably try it out again. I would honestly stay away from revolution also until we get some new updates. I'm currently running the latest ics ruu stock and everything is smooth but I'm going to be trying eclipse ROM soon the speed ROM because I've been having the itch to flash something new.

Come to think of it....I have been using Energy since I rooted. So maybe it is the Rom. Going to run stock in a few. Just making my MyBackupRoot for my apps.

Amaze 4G sucks with WiFi and Bluetooth
I am on phone number 10 in the course of 11 months. I have had known issues I found; I have also found issues between T-Mobile and HTC. I've been through the Sensation about six times. That was replaced with the Samsung Galaxy Amaze...which was totally incomparable in specs. Then I was given the Amaze. Found many known issues...with WiFi (which is what I want to use...and especially using WiFi with Bluetooth. I get garbled incoming sound (sometimes the outgoing sound is at the same time audible to the recipient). I find that I get calls garbled constantly, or worse...completely dropped. I live in a metropolitan-suburban area where I get 4G signals. Additionally, I've found information on the internet about T-Mobile and Metro PCS having incompatible systems, which exacerbates the garbling and call drops. I have a very high-end router, on which no other devices have any issue...and the signal strength dot with concentric circles goes up to the full three and down to just the dot...and that's independent of how close I am to the router (again, no problems with any other WiFi devices). As I said, it's worse when the Bluetooth radio and WiFi are on simultaneously. I've had occasional success holding the phone in my hand...about two feet from any of my five high-end Bluetooth devices...it won't usually work if I have it in my pocket...three feet away. I've spent 53 hours on the phone with T-Mobile (I keep very good notes) and 17 hours on the phone with HTC. I'm running ICS 4.0.3. Both have said since May that "they" were working on the problem and expected a resolution in a week or two. Now HTC's relationship, per trusted sources, is disintegrating and neither has done anything...rendering my 10th phone useless to me. I'd rather go back to my Windows 6.1 AT&T Tilt phone, at this point. And three times, T-Mobile's "customer service" calls of 1-1/2 hours each, didn't even put any notes on the account. Caveat emptor...
I think your issue is related to software not hardware because you get constant bars right? Just no data sometimes? A lot of times its the router that needs refreshing I have noticed as well and I am running a Linksys e2500. I would try something like speedrom never recall it giving me WiFi issues. So don't put down the device without giving it a shot is all I am saying.

liquid jb RC7 - loosing 4G

Hello,
I hope I'm in the right section about this. I installed the liquid jb rc7 and the gapps 4.2 and I love it. However, I have a problem with loosing my 4G when I make a phone call. My icon says from 4G to 3G and to H. At one point I saw my signal icon turn to blue in color to grey. After couple of minutes, the 4G icon will come back and everything is good unless of course I make another phone call.
I heard something about flashing modems should help but I don't know where to get those
Thank you guys in advance.
Do you in fact actually lose your 4g though, or is it just a minor flatulence. I'd try a speedtest when this takes place to gather better insight.

Hello,
Thank you for.your response and I apologize for my late reply. Yes the 4G disappears and my speed test is very slow or doesn't work anymore. Basically I would be sitting in a same place, I will browse the internet, Facebook, speed test etc and its great. I would do this sitting in my couch for about 30 minutes. And as soon as I dial a phone number from my Dialer my 4G icon from my notification bar will turn to H, then switches to 3G, E, etc. At This Time internet connection is Slow to almost unusable. Eventually it will go back to 4G but at 1 point it took so long that I just flashed back to padawan ICS.
Hope this helps. Thank you..

I have this problem also I did all the things to unlock my bootloader, root, and then did S-Off. Then flashed a rom everything works except when I try to make a call 4g drops off and I get text that says unfortunately stopped working with OK which I click later 4g turns back on and every time I try to call same thing happens. I re-locked bootloader and flashed RUU but after everything is done I still have same problem. Does anyone here have any idea how I can correct this problem?

[Q] Where did the white signal bars go?

Hi there, probably this is just a dumb question but I'm having this issue on my SGS2:
When I turn on a connection (3G or WiFi) my signal bars are blue and everything works fine (Google services too), but if I have no connection enabled my signal bars stay all grey and none is white, I mean I can't see the gsm signal level. On the countrary, if I expand the notification drawer, the icon that show the signal level works fine and displays the white bars.
So the problem is not that I can't get the blue bars, but that I can't get the white ones!
I've started having this issue after installing Vanilla Rootbox 3.8 ROM. Now I'm on JellyBam 6.5 and the problem is still there.
Factory reset didn't fix that?

Unfortunately not, I made a clean install of JellyBam, I flashed also a different Kernel and Modem, but the issue is still there.
After the installation I restored my Titanium backups, could it be possible that this "restored" the issue too?
jellybam is going out of the business, try another ROM after a clean install and that issue will go away.

I think you're right, do you have any suggestion for a good CM/AOKP ROM? I tried Vanilla RootBox as I said, but it seemed to unleash some wild bugs...

[Q] Jelly Bean and Orange Signal Boost

Just rooted my S2 to Cyanogen Mod 10.1 and I love it, super smooth n' all.
But I have faced one major problem, I have no signal where I live and relied on the orange stock rom signal boost applicaiton, I cannot seem to install this from recovery because it is for ICS not JB, any help with finding out how to get signal boost on jelly bean would go kindly.
Thanks in advance

I also want to update to JB but need signal boost too
Are there no Devs working on this anymore?
Orange released JB on S2
I see that Orange has now released a Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2 which brings us one step closer to Signal Boost.
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...0-android412-xwlsu-jellybean-install-root.htm
http://www.latinospost.com/articles...galaxy-s2-jelly-bean-update-android-4-1-2.htm
According to SamMobile, the UK Orange GT-i9100P is on:
PDA: I9100PXXLSQ
CSC: I9100PORALS5
MODEM: I9100PBVLS2
Anyone know if the Orange Jelly Bean ROM has the Signal Boost app? I really miss this app since I upgraded my S2 to Jelly Bean.
It reminds me of the last time I upgraded... I remember upgrading OSB was a big hassle when going from GB to ICS.
So anyone have any news on Orange's Signal Boost for Jelly Bean S2? Please?
TIA,
S.
*EDIT* Hmm I need to update my signature.

+1
I took it upon myself to download the Orange UK variant of SGS2 firmware from Sammobile that I mentioned a few posts above and take a look to see if I could see any relevant files based on the files needed for ICS and GB version of Signal Boost.
I'm no expert (still a relative noob) but I sifted through all the system .apks and couldn't find anything that might resemble WiFi-Calling.apk, even more worrying I couldn't see any of the four library files in amongst all the other .so files in the system/lib folder, I think there might have been one but the other three were missing.
I'm wondering if Orange have given up on Signal Boost support for high end android devices on JB? I still don't know for definite if Signal Boost is in the Orange JB ROM for the SGS2.
Little Help, Please!
S.
From what I've read, I guess you had the ability to make V.O.I.P. (voice over internet protocol) calls......in other words....normal calls via wi fi instead of the mobile network.....
There are apps available for this.....the best known one being Skype......
Alternatively, (and I know this to be the case with 3UK and Vodafone) why not see if your provider will supply a signal boosting box that plugs in to your router (for those who don't want to sign up to a third party app).....

Have a look at this webpage....

it might (or might not) clarify things......

Well I've downloaded and extracted the Orange released 4.1.2 update firmware for our S2 (LSQ I think it was) and I cannot find the Orange Signal Boost app files anywhere so I guess it isn't there. Does anyone have an email address for Orange we could use to get an update on this as it's driving me crazy?

Bump!
You and me both. If I'm going to move to JB I need signal boost to continue to work. Orange, IMHO, have dropped the ball on this one. I've got an unbranded phone which I installed signal boost on, a life saver in this neck of the deep woods.

Same here, I'm going to try get one of their signal booster kits (that they apparently only sell to business customers) and if they won't supply one of those then I'm quitting Orange (after over 7 years as a contract customer)

Ripper Rom - Network Connection icon?

Hey guys. Sorry if this seems like a really dumb question. I've had my phone for a month now and only just got round to putting a new Rom on it. Going with the Ripper Rom for the time being and love the fact that I can download new modems and stuff on the fly. Especially as the supplied modem for EE/T-Mobile in the UK is verging on criminally bad!!!
Anyway, how do I get the Connection Type icon to display? I get 5 bars, but no 3G, 3G+, N, E etc next to it?
Had a blast through the menu's but can't for the life of me find a setting for this
Scrap that!
Sorry, scrap that last one. Had only just flashed rom and icon was not present as there was no data connection due to APN not being setup
