Anyone here know how to make the sgsIII save the APN ? I had to enter the proper APN info, but it forgets it every time it boots.
I am on Koodo with is a subcompany of Telus with same MNC as Telus. So this telus phone works fine on it. But every time I reboot the Koodo APN info I enter is gone leaving only the Telus ones which wont work.
Any help is always appreciated guys.
Thanks.
No one has any ideas eh. I flashed a rooted version of my ROM and added the APN but I still lose it every reboot. Is there a file I could enter it into so as to not lose it ?
Tried editing files directly, no go.
system\framework\framework-res.apk the APN file in there
and the actual /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
No luck! Someone must know something
Ok grepped the whole framework apk for it, it isn't there. Doh
Apn backup on the market

It says you cannot restore APNs in ICS on play store apps. Doh!
There is a system back up item in Titanium called "Dialer Storage 4.0.4 - SMS/MMS/APN" that should do the trick.

Wish I could just edit the default telus APN into the koodo apn then I'd never have this trouble again
Ill try titanium
Hey guys, I just came off of the Galaxy Note to the S3. I never keep the data option enabled all day because of the battery drain, plus I just manually update all my sync'd apps anyway so there's no need for it to drain my battery & use up my pre paid credits at the same time.
My problem is this. With the galaxy note when I would go to either send or receive an MMS I wouldnt have to have my data connection permanently on. It would automatically enable the connection to send or recieve the incoming MMS, download the pic for me then automatically disconnect it when it was done. No muss no fuss. The GS3 does not automatically enable data to retrieve ur messages, you instead get a little download button in ur text you have to click. Problem is even after I enable data and click download to retrieve my mms, 95% of the time nothing happens, no activity is shown that the pic is actually being downloaded and you just end up staring at the screen for an hour until you get bored and turn it off, without your mms.
Is there a setting somewhere or something I can hack that will turn on the feature that will automatically enable data to retrieve your mms just like I had on the note? Its a bit hard to believe they'd have it on there then disable it on their brand new one. Not everyone likes to have data on all day :|
Thanks guys
Do you have Auto-Retrieve set to on in the messaging app? Just checking.

Find APN setting for your network provider. In apn type, type in 'mms' without quot

mms is already in the APN section. The settings were sent to my phone after I put my sim card in. Looks like there mightn't be a fix for this... :|

Hey, I had the same problem and I just fixed it. it will take you about 10 seconds.
1. go to mobile networks in wireless and networks.
2. choose access point names
3. menu button and choose New APN.
4. Im on AT&T so this is what I put (may be different if you have some other carrier)
Name: ATT PHONE
APN: Phone
that's all you have to put, everything else will already have values in there so dont change them.
5. once youre done with this just choose the APN you just created and your MMS will work.
**If you have a carrier other than AT&T then maybe this will work exactly the same, just find a phone with the same carrier and copy what's already there.
Thanks for the tip jon, however it still didnt work for me

Oh, that explains it. you could probably use the same method but copy the info from another phone using the Optus network. for example, here in the US, AT&T has several settings that I can choose from so if one doesn't work I can switch to another (which I did by inputting the info manually)
Maybe Optus has more than one setting so you can just use another. borrow a smartphone from someone and see what settings they have, if its different than what you're using now, try the one they have.
Hi
I also have this issue but it is important to note that there is nothing wrong with the MMS settings. The problem is caused by the S3 requiring Mobile Networking to be active to send and receive MMSs, but I choose to keep Mobile Network disabled unless I specifically wish to use it.
On my previous mobile of another make, even with Mobile Network disabled, the network would come to life to send and receive MMSs and then switch off again. The S3 does not behave this way and needs the Mobile Network to be specifically enabled manually.
This is an irritation! I would love to know if anyone has a fix or workround for this.
So.. there isn't a work around because its how they designed the phone eh. Is it something that they can tweak in a custom rom? Or do I just have to wait until the release the new galaxy note and hope they they put it back in again?

I haven't heard of this in any of the new SIII roms (I have the tmobile version), but it's still early on in the rom-making process...

are you on AT&T? If so, with the Galaxy S the problem is not with your phone's settings but on AT&T's end. turns out that sometimes your phone just disconnects from their network and they have to reset it--takes the only about 2 minutes to do over the phone.
It's on US Cellular, calling then would fix it though?

Im not sure how US Cellular works. I have AT&T. before you called them you can check your settings and make sure mobile data is turned on and you can also check your APN settings. on my GS2 I have 2 settings for APN, one is AT&T the other is Cingular. on my Wife's GS3 she was having MMS issues so I added a second APN to her phone and it worked--for a while then it happened again, called AT&T and it was something on their end.
I have aokp milestone 2 running on Verizon galaxy note 2. I want to run a t-mobile SIM in this ROM and device. How can I add apn. I haven't found flashing apn editor to work. Apn global doesn't work. In beans ROM thus was just a matter of switching the SIM, it already had apn info in it. Thanks

Even if you got the APNs installed I don't think it would work since this phone uses different radios. Its a CDMA phone your trying to use on a GSM network.
I have a VZW Note 2.
It's running CM 10.1.
GSM talk/text work "out of the box", even on stock ROM.
CM 10.1 allows APN editing, which you will need to do, if you want data.
I use AT&T & T-Mobile MVNO SIMs. I get AT&T & T-Mobile data.

I use a VZW Note 2 on AT7T myself, the process should be the exact same other than the actual APN info.
Either find the APN info online somewhere and add it via Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names> Menu Button and add new APN
Or you can Nandroid back to your last ROM (you did nandroid right?) and copy the APN info there and Nandroid back and add it as above.
If you didnt make nandroids.... make a nandroid of your current setup, clean flash your old ROM, copy the APN info, go back to the nandroid you just made and add in the info.
Thankful to all your replies. The aokp does not show access point names (I'll take another look), then I'm off to cyanogen mod. Thanks for your time.

I am updating my question with information that I have after trying. I put in the SIM for T-Mobile in my Verizon Galaxy note 2, this unlocked the add apn menu. I was thus able to add apn data without any special maneuvers. The T-Mobile SIM ran data just fine. It did take a couple of reboots for the Verizon SIM to catch 4G again. Please note this phone does H+ and evdo on T-Mobile. I didn't get 3G.

This isn't really a problem. It's just a question out of curiosity...aimed at the guys who tear down ROMs on a regular basis, or whoever else might know.
Okay so here's my scenario. I have a Verizon Note 2 which I use here in the Caribbean on a GSM network. Most of the time I use ATT or N7105 roms (without the ATT/n7105 modems of course) since I'm using a GSM network.
Whenever I use ATT/N7105 roms, my phone automatically retrieves APN settings for internet and mms from my carrier.
When I use Verizon ROMs like I am right now, I never receive these APN and MMS settings automatically.
I know my APN settings but it's convenient having it retrieved automatically when I switch sim cards.
What part of the ROM is it that allows this to happen when I'm using ATT roms?
Is it something in the build.prop that I'm missing? CSC settings or something else?

Well for the 1% that might be interested I figured out the answer. It turns out the ATT and N7105 roms apn-conf.xml file had my carrier's apn/mms settings.
So just replacing that file in my Verizon rom got my settings added automatically.
The issue is that it the APN database is populated with garbage apns, they don't work at all. First you have to get this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.appando.app.changeApn&hl=en
Yes yes it looks very sketchy but it works around the issue of not being able to get in to the APN settings.
You have to follow these instructions to clear the apns (because you can add new ones but it won't prioritize them if there are the originals):
https://forum.fairphone.com/t/how-do-i-uninstall-an-apn-giffgaff-apn-settings/5834
After that, just go back to the change APN app and create two new APNs: One for mms and one for internet (data). You need to use these APN settings: https://apn.gishan.net/settings/769_20_sprint_apn_settings_for_lg_g3.php (MMS)
https://apn.gishan.net/settings/769_21_sprint_apn_settings_for_lg_g3.php (Internet/Data)
After doing this do you have to toggle airplanemode to get data to kick in after reboots?
