How to change os - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys is there any way available to change my Samsung Galaxy y os

u mean custom rom right?
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk

If you mean your android rom, go to the device search. Typ galaxy y, go to your forum, choose developing/upgrading, modefying, unlocking. Choose a post with all avaideble roms. Choose a android 2.3.7 rom (best for you). Be sure its bug free, or at least stable

Yes and no.
With an unlocked bootloader and a significant effort, it should be possibile to install a linux for arm distribution on almost any android device - I mean not in chroot, but nativley. Once the bootloader is unlocked, you can flash any kernel, even those suitable for a debian arm o ubuntu arm distro.
Though it very likely would lack a working phone call module and it'd be quite useless.
On the other side, I don't know if anybody has ever ported windows mobile on android phones, but I don't think so. Not yet, at least, apart from legal matters.
But I frankly don't think that such experiments, though funny, could turn into something actually usable.

[Q] Free Xperia Project

Hi all,
i would like to know what is so special about this ROM in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212949
Because we all are using cm7 modded roms and cm6, what is so special about it? just wondering since the day that thread came into existence. Thats all.
Thank you
Tim
do you know the different already
I don't understand it either but I think that:
X10 mini is not supported officialy by CM6 or CM7 but we need to use port like miniCM6 to make it work.
If you look at the official webpage, there is no SE phone supported http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices
So I think this new project is to build a CM7 Rom for the Xperia line which may be more stable and more complete than other custom ROM. Moreover I think that SE developpers are gonna help in this project by giving some code for special hardware.
(Look at this http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/wp/2011/09/28/sony-ericsson-supports-independent-developers/)
If someone know more about this, it would be interesting!!!
The general idea is, that every bit of software on the phone should be open source, i.e. Free for everyone.
The driver layer of stock firmware is not open source, therefore you either have to adapt your operating system to work with standard drivers in kernel (what most developers/chefs do) or build drivers from the ground up (which is what FXP team is doing).
Then you have a completely open system with source code available for everyone.

Thanks all! i didnt know all would be such interested in that.
But well, i guess that this project will be better because it is started from the base.
I use a x10 mini pro (2010) and cant use the stock rom, because im too fond of the gingerbread roms out here. all are special in some way. and im testing each one specifically. if i use the stock rom i miss out some features i like and do upgrade.
So i wondered, if this FXP is something different, like pfonck said, build from ground up, then it would work according to our needs. very good and i like it.
Keep it up devs (i mean, FXP team!).
regards,
Tim
If you know what is inside the source code of everything, all the way from bootloader to app it's much easier to bugfix... So all in all they should be able to create an up to date rom that rivals the old stock rom for stability.
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
thanks pfonck for the info. you are right. since we are porting the roms from something sles we dont get the "real deal" out of a gingerbread rom or froyobread rom. that speaks well because it is from the base.
hope soon everyone will jump to it
Thanks
regards
Tim
I think what will be special about this ROM is that it won't be special! It'll be a 'vanilla' CM7 which will be open source and made specifically for each device. I imagine it will, with regular bugfixing, become the most stable custon ROM, and I envisage that it'll be the basis for most other Mini Pro custom ROMs.
It won't be anything revolutionary that we haven't seen from other ported gingerbread ROM's, in fact it'll probably have less features. People may still prefer a port of GingerDX which has the GingerDX settings. Or MiniCM Pro with its Xloud and Bravia engine. But for those who want a pure CM7 experience from developers who now have access and help from Sony Ericsson to use official drivers, it should turn out great. (and also, no developers names written on the lockscreen)

[Q] New and Best kernel?

Hello people
I flashed the new rom Feralab v18 and DoomKernel v.06 on my phone x10i but I have seen that sometimes it block or it goes in spurts.....I don't sure that it's the kernel, but because I wanted to prove even more, I'm here to ask you :
What are the new and best kernel after DoomKernel with over / underclocked or not?? thx
no answer?
I found this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345913
some of you have already tried these kernel?
for example:
2. Free Kernel 4.05.4 SE233
- Direct port of Free Kernel 4.05.4
- Include dual recoveries
ftf File: http://www.mediafire.com/?3tolzmam2tid2qu
Wifi Module: http://www.mediafire.com/?6f8zwogejf3i4gg
has anyone ever tried this kernel?
Almost all of kernel for X10i are very similar, because are based on stock SE sources. I am using Doomlord kernels, because they are stable and have good scailng and undervolting capability.
It also depends if u want locked or unlocked bootloader version

As I told - I recommend Doomlord kernels. There are not any kernel with "big" bugs (i know only about Usb host bugs). Look into section "Android Development" and choose the right one you thing is for you

Anytime bro
I am on locked bootloader still because I dont have any reasons to unlock it and because:
- there is no rom/kernel which requires unlcked bl which has something really necessary for me (eg. new major version of OS or some extra functionalities)
- once bootloader is unlocked you can brick your phone totally (and I dont have JIG and UART adapter for X10i).
- i have completely modded WB rom by myself - extremely clean with huge of free RAM and great CPU performance. Didnt found something like mine yet
Only one reason why I will (in future) unlock my bootloader is CyanogenMod 9 which is in development but currently it hasnt deep sleep and camera working. Only one reason is Android 4.0 no else

Haha I am really NOT a noob, but still dont have it
No no its too difficult - yes I am able to build a android kernel from sources a make a really few mods in it, but I cant say, that I am a developer... Even I am programmer in desktop C++ and desktop Java, I cant write any app for android, its much more difficult than a programm app for PC in C++ and desktop Java is completely different from Android Java for a pity I have tried some tutorial for veleoping on android and I was disgusted how it works badly...
I recommend you to start programming in C++ or Java in desktop environment first and later move on Android Java
And ROMs no, still modding released ones and for personal usage at a time. I wasnt ever thought about to release my mods here on XDA yet

cyanogenmod seems to be the best kernel , at least for samsung phones!!
I have a ATT Samsung GII and currently have it rooted fine. Sadly, every one is changing all the roms to ICS and I am currently forced to use a specific application for billing my miles to work that does not run at all on ICS.
I would try to talk to the developers of that app to see if they could just recompile it for ICS but now that they have the app booming on the iPhone they have pretty much dropped any support for Android.
Right now I am downloading the Android SDK so that I might be able to run this app in the SDK on my laptop.
My questions:
1. Is the Android SDK the only way I can run an Android emulator to run this app?
2. Is there a good place on XDA (or some where else) where I could list out the features I need in a specific application and other people could suggest apps that match the requirements? There are many pay for apps that sound like they would work for me but 15 minutes is not long enough to test the apps out before I cannot get a refund.
Hi...
I am a newbie around here. I want to try some clockwork recovery with my old huawei C8500. I already installed the rom manager v4.4.0.7. But it says I have to install clockwork recovery first. So when I click yes, then it ask for my phone model. But, I can't find my phone. Its have like huawei U series and some other phone models. But not my C8500. Can you tell me how to download it and explain what CWM and how it works and a lil detail for some walkthroughs for how to use CWM? Really thanks for any good answers. Thx

Does the galaxy player line have a github repo? I have picked to build an aosp gingerbread rom for an independent study at my school and the rules are that it has to be pure aosp and I figured that building from scratch would be the easiest way because touchwiz is deeply integrated into the software in the device. If I can't do it from the github, does anyone have experience for building aosp?

which galaxy player ? the 4.0 and the 5.0 have cm9 and cm7 which are essentially aosp so you'll need to contact the developers...look at the development forum to see who they are
Its for the 5.0, the ROM I need to build can not already exist and must be a nexus-like ROM with gapps installed such as the nexus s gingerbread ROM. Nothing more nothing less and everything must work

that's the problem, the current cm7 rom has some issues and no one is working on them because cm9 is a bigger priority, you should ask gmillz for help as he seems one of the main 5.0 devs at the moment
I just want aosp such as the apex rom for the droid x or something similar, it cant be a cyanogenmod rom because those are already being worked on and I cant use generic ginger because its not mine and its not fully aosp
Try building AOSP from source. Use gmillz's device tree as it is the most stable atm. I'm also working on an experimental device tree which may or may not fix some issues so you could also use that if you want

Oh right sorry. I didn't read your initial post properly. These github repos are for CM9. You can build CM7 pretty easily as it doesn't require any propriety files as hardware acceleration is not usually enabled in GB roms. Sorry for the confusion

It would need to have the same board, not only the same CPU, if it does have any other similar hardware then it may help.
Board ?
I saw this :
http://www.glbenchmark.com/phonedet...ro25&D=Samsung+Galaxy+Player&testgroup=system
and
http://www.glbenchmark.com/phonedet...sung+YP-G1+Galaxy+Player+4.0&testgroup=system
--> the Player 3.6 has the same board as the Player 4.0
Intressting ?
Update :
The Player Player 3.6 and 4.0 are almost identical except for the CPU and screen size!
Then the two might be able to help each other out such as graphics drivers/WiFi drivers etc.

When i say stock android. I mean the android google created before samsung inserted all those crap bloatware.
It depends on the rom. If the developer gave the feature into the rom anot. Most custom roms dun do tat. In fact, i have never seen a custom rom with multi window. U might wanna try paranoid android. It doesn't have multi window but it has a similar feature.
