I've been following forms at team uscellular, and it seems using 1 of the bypass links for a temporary unlock from here they have been able to get the phone with a custom ROM. I'm news to motorola and I am unsure of the exact abd sequence to use. I've been following the photon development and it seems this could be a move for those with locked boot loaders. I have done some development with the samsung phones, but I am brand new to motorola, so this boot loader issue has been giving me many problems. if there is a developer out there that would be willing to help me with this I would a willing participant for the testing if there is a possibility of putting an actual flash package together. thanks ahead of time for any help or any comments, I will monitor this thread to see if we can move forward with any developments

Hi everyone
I was gifted an unlocked t-mobile vibrant a few days ago. Need to confirm if I can update the 2.2 firmware when it is made available without losing the unlock? Fyi, when I press on firmware update in the settings menu it says no firmware..wonder why that is...hope someone here can clarify
P.s. Already tried searching on the forums but didn't find anything that confirms the above

First of all, wrong section. Second, you shouldn't lose your carrier unlock when you update firmware. Lastly, the reason it says "No firmware" is because T-mobile has not officially released any updates for the Vibrant. When an OTA update is made available to you, it will show up.
if you need it to remain unlocked because you are using it on another carrier you won't get the 2.2 ota from t-mobile. However i'm willing to bet within hours of its release we will have it here to be able to flash for rooted users.

If you ever have questions, please post them in the Q&A subforum, not the development subforum. Your thread has been moved to the Q&A sub-forum.
As far as your question goes: Theoretically, you shouldn't loose it, but since there are no 2.2 updates, yet, there is no way to know 100%.
Hi all
I am a little bit confused?
I got my gf (girlfriend) a motorola atrix from website called PANAMOZ when it arrived I found out it was ME860 (HKTW) not MB860 (ATT 4G)
Some of the stuff was in chinese like keyboard etc etc.
I was going to get her a SGS II same as what I have but she said it was too big for her.
Now the problem I have got is it is running android 2.2.2 and my SGS II is on android 2.3.4
How can I get the motorola atrix ME860 on android 2.3.4?
Do I root it, sbf it via RSD lite, unlock bootloader (if so how),fastboot vol up vol down, etc etc.
I have been reading for 2 days on xda forum and I think I am going to go crazy!
My last moto was the wings! and with my nokia's, HTC, iphones, Blackberry's and Samsung's I have not had any problems updating to latest official or un-official firmware.
So all I would like is some help and support for you guys to get the atrix ME860(HKTW) on gingerbread 2.3.3 or 2.3.4
She is not interested in all types of mods or flashing custom roms every other week!
Just a stable phone that won't let her down and yet be SMART.
Thank you in advance for all your help-advice-tutorials-link
PS
I have been reading about using RSD and putting on 1.2.6 then root but when I try that, RSD lite just says fail. When I try the HKTW sbf (4.0.500) it does work but it gives me android 2.2.2 froyo on chinese firmware.
I live in UK and don't mind installing US, UK, EU firmware/sbf as long as my gf can use it and not have chinese rubbish on it.
Its knowing how to do this and in what order I need to do this. I have managed to root it using gingerbreak 1.20apk
Thanks for your help guys n gals

No because this is the dev forum. It is not for questions. Please read the rules before you post. Dev forum is for devs and people who help test out their devs.

K thanks for that m8.
for a guy with 6 posts and a thanks meter on zero after being a member since 2009, you should probably not show attitude to more accustomed members who know what they are talking about. this is clearly the wrong section, regardless of the reasoning for why you'd like it here.
I would go to settings menu>about>systemupdates and see if it will update first. Trying to get into rooting and unlocking right now would take longer..... meaning longer more complicated process.
An infraction was given to the OP to remind them to not create question threads in the developer forums. Hopefully this will prevent them and others from doing so in the future.
Hello,
I have a Motorolla Atrix 4G purchased from Bell. The phone was updated to Gingerbread 2.3.6 already.
I have rooted the phone following this guide http://androidadvices.com/root-motorola-atrix-4g-45141-gingerbread-236-firmware/
Using the moto-fastboot files from here http://www.android-advice.com/file-downloads.php?filename=Atrix_Root_Files
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader so I can ultimately install CM7, but my understanding from this forum sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160408 is that I can't do this without bricking the phone, since I had already done the official gingerbread update.
So if I'm correct, I need to follow this guide... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
Except that guide and the warning sticky are referring to 2.3.4, not 2.3.6...
Could someone please lend me some knowledgeable input and/or guidance on this? Greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.
Solved my own question. Phone is unlocked and functioning.
To anyone else who might be helped by this, that guide I posted DOES work for 2.3.6 on Bell... Even says so approx. 13 pages into the discussion (took me awhile to find it).
Just like to thank this community for existing, and all the effort and time you guys spend to not only develop, but to help others by publishing these great resources.
I know there are a thousand threads on Rooting/Unlocking and Custom ROM's for the Atrix, because I've spent the last 3 days reading every one I could find. However, most of them appear to be very dated and often conflicting. As I'm coming to the game a little late I was hoping for some assistance on how to proceed.
Here's what I have;
AT&T Motorola Atrix 4G (I bought this new under contract, kept it for 2 years, upgraded to another phone and this one has been a paperweight for the past 18 months) AT&T will give me an unlock code if I ask, but I'm a little confused by the conflicting reports on whether to do it this way or not.
It's an MB860
FW Version 4.5.141
OS Version 2.3.6
Baseband N_01.77.37P
Webtop WT-1.2.0-110_OLY-6
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Build 4.5.141
I'd like to Unlock it so I can run a Foreign SIM card, I'd like to Root it so I can add non-approved apps, and I'd like to play with some ROM's, Redpill has some very good user reviews so I'm thinking of giving it a try but I'm not stuck on it.
Obviously don't want to brick the phone, so any advice would be appreciated, the more detailed the better
I have Windows 8.1, Mac OS X, and Windows XP-SP3 computers to work with.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
While certain threads are (or might seem) outdated and/or conflicting, there are also other threads that serve as a kind of index of the most current methods and procedures. That should help you get around. Plus there are threads and guides written especially for noobs...
Yes, the code from AT&T is the safest and simplest way to do SIM unlock. Only important point here is that the device must be running the official Moto/AT&T firmware at the time of unlock. I'm not sure what kind of "conflicting information" you came across, to my knowledge nobody who's used the code as described never had any problems.
As for rooting, regardless of the variant or firmware version of your device, the preinstall method is the one to use. By far the most universal, plus personally and generally I dislike any "automatic", "one-click" or similar methods - for me at least they are usually more trouble than they're worth.
As for playing with ROMs, you first need to unlock your BL, then install a custom recovery, and then you have a shot at ROMs. So quite a wide topic with plenty enough threads created on the subject, so no point in repeating what's already said countless times. By the time you're done with other things mentioned (SIM unlock, rooting) you should be able to find your way around.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've requested an unlock code from AT&T, should be good to go in 48 hours.
In the mean time, is it important that I have it unlocked before I root, or will it matter?
Update
I realize this may seem to be off-topic but I'm not asking for assistance with this newest update, I'm only using the experience to help clarify my concerns about the Atrix.
Waiting for my requisite 24 hours before unlocking the SIM on my Moto Atrix. While I'm waiting i decided to gain a little experience by rooting a Galaxy S5570 and installing a custom Rom.
Like the Atrix there are dozens if not hundreds of threads, videos, tutorials etc for how to accomplish this. I found the most recent one I could that seemed to be a complete tutorial and it was dated from January of this year (much newer than any threads I've found on the Atrix BTW)
Rooting went fine. Confirmed with a Root Test app.
Loaded a CWM 6.0.4.5 recovery package as instructed and ended up bricking the phone. By all accounts this tutorial was for the exact model of phone with the exact same FW and Android version.
This is no big loss as it was a cheap phone that I wasn't using anyway, but it certainly opened my eyes to the risks involved in attempting this procedure on the more costly Atrix.
I'd really appreciate if anyone could point me in the direction of a current procedure for Rooting, Unlocking the Bootloader and installing a custom ROM on the Atrix with the specs from my Original Post. If any of you have the same phone and had success following a particular procedure I would greatly appreciate some links.
I know how forums work, and I know there are always the guys that reply RTFM to every noobs questions, as someone with technical skills in other areas I can generally tell the difference between someone who just doesn't want to bother doing the Due Diligence and someone who is struggling to sort through the myriad solutions to find the one that's right. I really don't want to brick this phone so any pointed advice would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile you have ROMs all over the place here in the Atrix 4G section of xda that you are not going to go download, rather you are going to request a ROM for the phone instead. Head over to the development section and download a ROM instead of requesting the necessary resources that are already available to you.

Okay, so I have a Motorola Electrify M, and I can't remember if It was running JB or ICS. One day when I went to turn it on, It got the the pulsing M and it just stayed there. So I'm going to use RSD, but I don't know if putting JB on it if it previously had ICS would do harm. Also, does it have to be brand specific? It's a U.S. Cellular. Having help being pointed in the right direction of the files I need would also be very very appreciated.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. There is not a specific forum for your device so I'm haveing the thread moved to the general help section. Someone there may have your device and be able to answer your specific question.
