[Q] sbf question - Motorola Droid X2

What's up community, I'm a little confused with the sbf. I think I have used it successfully but not sure. I have the mx2 on NTelos. I use the proper sbf file and followed instructions to the letter. I've read thread after thread to make sure I was comfortable before I started. So the process went well I guess but my phone info still said I was on 2.3.6 even though I used the 2.3.4 sbf file. I thought I read somewhere that that was normal, so I proceeded to flash eclipse2.2. Worked perfectly and eclipse runs great! I did want to experiment with other roms since I got the sbf down but no others work. So I'm confused if either the sbf never really worked and I am lucky to have eclipse working so beautifully, or if the other roms (CM7,MIUI) just aren't working right. I can follow instructions great, that's how I've accomplished the progress on my devices but I still don't understand alot of what I read. You guys here are great with all you teach and contribute, so thank you for any help or feedback that may come.

Anyone have any guidance to offer? Thx!

all the correct sbf files should be there. If you have further questions let me know =D

that is one of the pages i used in my elaborate search for sbf answers and procedures, i did do the steps correctly and ive even done it a couple of times, once to bring the phone back to life, i guess my main question is should my phone read that its on 2.3.4 after i sbf or will it still read 2.3.6 even though its really 2.3.4, my confusion is because nitro states that you have to be on 2.3.4 to flash eclipse, i sbf'd with the 2.3.4 file, phone read that im on 2.3.6, i flashed eclipse anyway and it runs great
i tried the sbf and flashed cm7 and miui but neither of them would install, thats why im confused, thank you for your time and help

If after you sbf and it shows 2.3.6 you did not sucessfully sbf to 2.3.4 it should read 2.3.4
If you are on 2.3.6 you have a mx2? I have no experience with sbf on those phones. But with x2 it should read 2.3.4

yes, i have a milestone x2, i used the proper file for the mx2 from ntelos which is my service provider, i couldnt install eclipse (or even cm7,miui) before i ran the sbf, after i ran it i still cant use cm7,miui but eclipse installed great and even reads 2.3.5, i flashed twobrare/dkz's cm9 last night and as i tried going back to eclipse i got stuck on boot, nandroid wouldnt even factory reset so i used the sbf again and it brought the phone back but still reads 2.3.6, had to reroot and then was able to use bootstrap to get to my backups, so this sbf thing is being depeptive

OTA 1.83 possible?

Sorry if this is a newb question or has been answered else where...
But I am rooted and running greyblur on the 1.57... Can I just OTA install 1.83 (its available) or do I have to do it some other way because of my "custom" ROM.
excuse my ignorance, I just got the atrix coming from N1 and I am still learning about this whole developing scene as the bootloader is encrypted and not quite as flexible as what I'm used to.
Thanks so much!

No, I don't think it will let you update unless you undo your rom or you can flash back to stock.
Here is a guide for flashing the sbf:

so does this mean also that I cant install the 1.83 OTA update either if I'm on 1.57 rooted and using GladiAtrix2?....please correct me if there's any of the steps below that I'm about to do is wrong:
1. flash 1.26 sbf
2. OTA update to 1.83
3. use gingerbreak to gain root
I want to use gingerblur that's why I wanna know if the above steps will remove gladiatrix2 rom so that I can update to 1.83 and install gingerblur
just skip the first step and flash the 1.8.3 SBF
Yes I think you can just flash the 1.83 sbf and then use gingerbreak to root.
is there any difference between the sbf 1.83 and the OTA 1.83?
I have no data to back this up, only my opinion-------I Flashed the SBF 1.83 to my brothers atrix as well as my own at the exact same time, since then the OTA has been released. I was having issues with Gingerblur 3.0 so i flashed back to 1.26 then OTA updated back up to 1.83. No more than 30 minutes ago my brother came by and in a side by side comparison (IMO) the menu scrolling is smoother and the overall transitions to other applications is more fluid. I mainly noticed this with the speed test app loading. My OTA 1.83 popped right up and faded into the test screen perfectly. My bros seemed to stutter. These phones are both bone stock besides gingerbreak. One with OTA and one with Flash SBF. If your Atrix is mainly still stock and your dont mind setting your phone up again(ive done it at least 20 times now) then give it a shot and see what you think. Like i said, This is just my opinion, I am Flashing my bros back to 1.26 the trying the OTA method to see if i can replicate results.

[Q] Atrix #2

ok so last night i tried to install a custom rom on my stock 4.5.91 (gingerbread) atrix and it bricked me and froze on a screen that said "failed to boot idk idk idk"
got a new one this morning and i really want the AT(HoneyComb)RIX V3.3 rom, I have installed gingerblur before the update and also have a captivate running MIUI so ive had flashing experience but this has got me stumped can someone help me out
You need to read more about what you're doing before you do it. You didnt unlock your bootloader before trying to flash your custom ROM. Which is why you got the 'failed to boot....' error. Was completely fixable, you just didnt do your homework first. Read the stickies in the Development Section and other sections. They are full of information you MUST KNOW if you plan on flashing and modding the Atrix.
i didnt :l my mistake usually i look into it but not this time, and also after the fail to boot mssg it would say something about NvFlash and just shut off
This guide is a good start for you. The Atrix is not the same as the Captivate is. (I own both as well) This guide has a lot of good info in it for you, noob or not. I recommend giving it a THOROUGH reading.... and when you're done, read it all AGAIN.

Flashing Eclipse 2.0.3

When I received my phone, it was on GB 2.3.3. I got the OTA for 2.3.4. I am now rooted, and running Eclipse 1.3, with Speedy 7. I was trying to follow the steps to flash Eclipse 2.0.3, but when I tried to SBF to 2.3.4, it hangs on applying update in bootstrap. It just stays there, and never progresses to install. Is it supposed to take a long time to apply the update since my device was originally 2.3.3? I really want to update to the newest Eclipse, but this troubles me. It is possible I'm doing something wrong, but it does seem straight forward. Any help would be appreciated.
It hangs om applying update in recovery, just to clarify.

Make sure to apply update to 2.3.5 (.412 build) is applied using stock recovery not bootstrap. Phone off. Power and volume down button at same time. Volume down until you see stock recovery then volume up. When you see the triangle hit both volume buttons at same time. From stock recovery you install your update zip. Make sure to rename zip file to update first. Good luck.
Am I flashing 2.3.4 through bootstrap recovery, or stock? That's my issue, I do it through BSR, and it never applies the flash.
I know I need to SBF, but it never works.
To SBF, you need to use RSD Lite in Windows to flash 2.3.4. Once you've done that, apply the 2.3.5 update in android recovery. No need to to root until you've updated to 2.3.5. After you've applied the 2.3.5 update, root, install BSR and then install Eclipse using BSR.
Have a look at the first post in this thread. It looks like a lot but it's not as big a deal as it looks. You can just download the 2.3.4 file and use that. There's no need to do 2.3.3 first.

What does not work? Are you turning your phone off and powering it up and volume up at the same time to start your phone up in rsd mode. If not rsd it will not recognize your phone.
Also, before you SBF, boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset/data wipe.
After that, reboot and using RSD lite to SBF back to 2.3.4.
If you're new to SBFing, here's a link to a great tutorial to help you out:

Followed the directions, and I'm proud to say I am now running Eclipse 2.0.3! Thanks so much for your help!
Congratulations and enjoy. Dont forget to do a nano backup now and then you can play with some themes
Also i would highly recommend v6 supercharger. Moon shadow wrote up a good tutorial on how to install with 2.02 but it is the same for 2.03. If you are interested i can find you the link.
I have Speedy 7 installed, can I put in supercharger as well?

You would need to remove the 97 memory charger script from speedy 7.

Look at this thread here at the end. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412729&page=5
This is what i am running now but to be honest i think 2.03 did better with just v6 supercharger. I am going to run this way for another day or so.

MX2 wont boot... stupid smurf script. Do I SBF?

Ok I have a Milestone X2 with 2.3.6 stock. Rooted stock rom...
I fooled around and tried the smurf script and now it wont boot up or boot into CWM
I can boot to stock recovery and other options such as RSD, Fastboot & etc.
I apologize for not thoroughly searching but Im rushed with many other life issues going on. I just need some point in the right direction. Thanks.
EDIT: Maybe apply an update from sdcard from stock recovery?
What update do you have on your sdcard? The 2.3.5 ota? or 2.3.6?
I'm not too familiar with the Milestone, but I did find two threads on SBF'ing:
Downgrading from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5
and
Skwoodwiva's "Wanted: 2.3.6 SBF or OTA"
There was also a 2.3.5 SBF posted on the Motorola SBF page. Under Milestone x2 it has a 2.3.5 SBF but it says ntelos? Again, I'm not too familiar with the Milestones but I would think you could just flash that and the reactivate through your local cell provider. It might be a good idea to PM skwoodwiva and see what he recommends as it seems he's pretty familiar with the Milestone series.
Yea thanks I did just happen to PM him... Im assuming I have 2.3.6 since I recieved it that way.
is there someway to restore with SDK tools?
it is in rsd mode by default evn though it doesnt say i had same problem and this workd but only problem is that back button and home button r switched
Nah I'm screwed. I even tried to sbf the milestone x2 2.3.5 with no luck. Boss called in a warranty claim. Get the new phone tomorrow.

Milestone X2
I too am in the same boat and would love to get the ntelos 2.3.6 ota or sbf to try, the 2.3.5 does not work due to the security check i am guessing. Right now my phone will only boot the to the moto dual core logo, I can also boot to stock recovery with all the functions there as well but the wipe data and cache dont seem to do anything. Any help would be great to unbrick the phone...
New phone in old one shipped out... Guess Ill root tonight & just get rid of some bloat.

[Q] nandroid 2.3.6 question

I'm on a milestone x2 with paranoid android installed and i've decided to go back to stock. How exactly do i install this 2.3.6 nandroid back up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542456 ? The instructions on the site, from what i gather, aren't for my model phone. i've tried a few different methods and can't seem to get it to work; mainly installing as rom from cm7 recovery. can it be installed from cm7 recovery? i'd really like to not have to sbf on account of how much of a pain in the ass it is.
