I've had this thing for a good month or two and its ran like a champ. Never had issues really. Never Rooted, its basically stock and its been nothing but great to me.
This brings me to this evening. I decided to record my 2 year old dance and really havnt used the camcorder before. Gave it a go, recorded him, and as soon as I hit the STOP button on the camcorder, the tablet basically froze on me. Couldn't do **** for whatever reason.
So I figured ok, I'll shutdown by holding the power button. As soon as I fired it back up, I get a Encryption Unsuccessful message. It basically tells me my data is corrupt, can't be restored unless I do a factory reset. It gives me a button to reset and I push it.
It basically reboots and comes back to the same dam screen. I have no idea what the hell to do. I'm so screwed....
press and hold volume down and power. When the tablet reboots, keep holding both buttons until you see writing in upper left corner of boot screen, let go of buttons. Now press volume down and it should bring you to a menu with some options. Press volume down( I believe) to select factory reset/wipe date, then press volume up to select it.
If this doesn't work, and your boot loader is still locked, try to manually update the tablet(put factory Asus update on external SD). If that don't work, you may be screwed.
Its fixable with an unlocked boot loader.
I can try to help you. But first, lets document some things.
Where you on the latest version of ICS? (.15)
What were you doing when this happened: Already stated that
Do you have an SD card in your Prime:
Also, let's accept right now your data is lost, and is most likely not recoverable. Basically, this screwed up the /data and /sdcard folder. If you RMA the Prime, you will most likely get a new device, as it is not bricked, but beyond software fixing it. Someone please tell me I'm wrong, but I have gotten this before, I had no way of recovering, and had to get a new Galaxy Nexus.
But try these steps:
Turn the Prime off. Hold down both the Power and Volume Down.
Once you see text in the top cornor of the screen, press volume down.
Select Factory Data Rest, and hit the Volume Up confirm the change.
Let me know if that works.
Good luck!
I was still on the .13 build. I dont have an SD card either. Like I said, this **** happened outta nowhere and I'm dumbfounded right now.
Please tell me I don't have to F'in factory reset and wipe? UGH!

Losing all your data right now, unfortunately, is the least of your worries. This is also something that needs to be reported to ASUS ASAP.
If you are getting to a screen, you are most definitely NOT bricked. If you see a light on, if you plug it on and the light comes on...you are not bricked.
Try the steps mentioned to get you into the menu where you manually select the options.
Good luck

Oh yea, least of your worries for sure. Hopefully most of your important stuff syncs to the cloud or you have a recent backup. Resetting your personal settings, screens, etc will be a huge relief when/if you get it up and going.

I know what you mean..lol hate having to set everything up again. but its needed though to bring back your tablet. once it gets back to normal I'd suggest updating to latest update .15. has most of old bugs fixed and more stable. plus you might get an updated camera firmware also.
good luck n post back how things went.
Well I would love to try all these steps guys, but now the F**cker wont turn on. Just vibrates. Tried plugging the charger in, same thing. Wont even turn on.... !

try plugging your prime up to t.v. through HDMI connection. see if prime might actually still be on but the screen is off. if you can see prime screen then if it lets you, try a factory reset that way by going into settings then backup/factory reset.

Well I wouldn't be able to go to settings and factory reset, because I can't get into ICS...we've established that. When I get home, I'll try my hdmi cable I guess.

that was when your prime was on and you could see the screen. could be possible the reboots stopped but now the screen doesn't want to come on..worth a shot.
No matter what screen your prime is on, whether the prime is turned off or on, press and hold volume down and power. What does that do? Keep holding it until something happens.
Tried the HDMI cable, nothing came up either.
When I hold down volume and power, it vibrates after about 8-10 seconds. Then nothing. I havn't held it down much longer than that.
tried holding it down for a minute after that...still black screen.
How does a friggin tablet BRICK itself, STOCK? Please enlighten me!
Guess I'll leave it on the charger all night just for hells sake
I've seen this situation here before. your best bet might be to keep doing what you doing to make it vibrate and drain the battery somehow. once its dead or doesn't vibrate anymore, let it charge up till the led light is green at full capacity. then try cutting it on. that has worked for a few members who seemed tl have same issue as you.
The led light doesn't come on tho at all when plugged in. Should it? Or only when it's fully charged?
it should at least be on and be a red color to indicate it's charging. a green color to indicate its fully charged.
is it still vibrating when you attempt to put it in recovery mode? if not then the power might be drained already. sometimes when battery is really dead, indicator light will not cut on until it has a decent enough charge. like some people who received their prime couldn't get it to cut on even plugged up. their battery was that dead and needed to charge for a while before it finally cut on.
constantly rebooting tablet does drain battery. maybe you already drained it, especially if it no longer vibrates anymore.
Naw it still vibrates just no led indication whatsoever. Holding down the power button only makes it vibrate and that's it, no display. I coulda swore I had like 50 percent right before I used my camcorder...weird.
I'll let it sit on a charge for a bit and see what happens. If I get this fired up I need to decide on rmaing it or not. Argh.
Thanks for the help....and to all...

no problem. it might be best just to RMA it anyways. so you won't have to deal with the risk of this happening again. plus chances are good they will send a replacement unit if they can't fix it. good luck!

No big deal, you were just out of battery and your charger is not working. Put you charger in a freezer for 2 hours and recharge your ATP 2 hours with It. problem will be solved after that.
So something very weird has happened..
I had my phone plugged in charging as I was going to sleep, everything was working fine. I wake up 4 hours later, and go to check my phone but nothing happens, and I notice that I have no charging light, nothing. I unplug the charger and plug it into my computer...nothing, I try a different cord...nothing. I tried holding the power button, but still nothing. I'm really confused as to what could have happened, because like I said it was just sitting there charging, I don't keep any open water anything near it either, so that couldn't have happened.
My phone is rooted, and is s-off, I was running MeanRom 4.3 when this happen, and it had been on that for 4 days without any issues.
Any Ideas what could have happened, or what I can?
so quick update, phone started rebooting like crazy all of a sudden. I heard it vibrate on my night stand, and noticed it was on the HTC boot screen, then it went black, and did it again. So I held power+volume down and got to the bootloader, but again it just randomly rebooted while it was in bootloader, as it was restarting it made it to the start up animation, however just went black again for about 3-4 mintues, then started rebooting again....I am very confused...
Well I had the same problem, but my phone Never got reboots or anything just dead.. Ended up with service on guarantee and they had to change the moderboard of my phone
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
man I hope that not the issue, but its rebooting like crazy now, and I actually rebooted enough to fully boot at one point, and the weird thing is, the Back buttong, home button and recent apps button were flashing, just like they do when you hold the power button in...

Well looks like a trip to Best buy at lunch today (I have the Bestbuy insurance because there is no fee for insurance claims...)
I'm just worried that while I'm there that it will try to start bootlooping, and they will see the text on the "Quietly Brilliant" screen, or it will go far enough to show MeanRom's boot animation, and they will stop the thing on the spot. After posting this morning it has had 2-3 sessions of wild boot loops, where it is continuous every couple of seconds rebooting. In the 3 minutes I've been typing this, it has gone through probably 10 cycles, each time making to the end of the Quietly Brilliant HTC screen where it shows the "This build is for HTC Development only..." yikes...
Best buy doesn't care if its rooted man. I brought in 2 rooted EVO's and exchanged them on the spot. Most of them don't even know what root is. If they did they don't know about the HTC dev screen.
Hi!
I've been having a little trouble with my Motorola Photon 4G this past week. So far it wasn't that bad, but it got worse during the past couple days. I've had it for about 2 years, and have to wait until February to change it. (Note: it is not, nor has it ever been rooted)
It started by just freezing and restarting at random moments. Then I had to remove the battery to restart it when it froze, because the power button wouldn't respond. It started going on reboot loops, where it would freeze, I'd take out the battery, it'd restart, and go through the restart process over and over again until the battery died. I could still turn it on. After a couple days, the battery would drain extremely quickly, to the point where to actually be able to turn it on I'd have to remove the battery, plug the phone in until the "looking for battery" icon popped up, reinstall the battery, wait for it to charge, and then turn it on.
Now, no matter what I do, it will not turn on. If I plug it in a wall outlet, it
-With the battery installed --> LED turns green, nothing pops up, power button is not responsive
-Without the battery --> Nothing happens
If I plug it in the computer, the LED turns white, but the Dual Core screen doesn't pop up. When it rarely does, it freezes there.
I have tried the whole "hold power button and volume down" (Stuck in RSD mode or something like freezes on the screen), or "hold the power button and volume up" (Fastboot freezes on the screen), and the holding the two volume keys when the Dual Core screen pops up doesn't work either.
I can't get a new contract, since I am moving away in a couple months in another country, and an US phone would be useless.
Does anybody have a solution?

Try this:
1) Power down (if not already powered off);
2) Pull the battery out;
3) Plug power in *without* putting the battery in;
4) Boot the phone.
If it does not start, we'll have to go from there. If it does start, you need a new battery.

The light is green because it's powered and the battery doesn't need charging (not in the device). At least we have that.
Ok, this will sound stupid, but let's give it a shot:
1) unplug power;
2) remove battery (if not still removed);
3) Let it sit for a while (10 minutes would be overkill, but what the heck);
4) plug power in (not battery -- leave that out);
5) Press and hold the power and volume-down buttons for a good long time -- get a motorola screen?
If we don't get the motorola screen, could be a couple things -- screen dead? Or hardware prob (maybe the power button is dirty -- push good and hard just to be sure).

As I thought, battery shot. Confuses many. So, an unbrick might not be necessary. The battery just won't even pull up the bootloader.
If you get the new battery, and you never rooted, thus didn't load the clockwork recovery hack, it should charge, and then boot might be ok. We will see, but until you see no boot at all, unbrick is the last resort since it's a slog and you're not overly experienced.
I can help, but the OP on the unbrick thread is a great help in most cases.

No worries -- your duty (of course) is hit the Thanks button when folks help and we get somewhere. I also fixed a couple typos in my reply (typed on a phone, and naturally ends up imperfect. Just didn't want you confused. One way or another, you can get the phone back up and running.

Not quite sure what you're saying, but the new battery the OP in this thread purchased should charge fine unless something is really wrong (never rooted so never loaded any charge-precluding mods).
If you are saying that on your phone, with a new battery, you still had to unbrick it because it wouldn't charge ... hmmmm ... seems very strange. Even the clockwork recovery mod would come up and then allow rebooting normally.
We'll see when the new battery comes. Hopefully no unbrick work required, just a charge.
what i am saying is that when the phone is bricked.. i mean bricked... nothing works what so ever except rsd... then thats it... it will not charge the battery. if you have a dead battery then dont expect it to charge while rsd. i needs power on the battery to allow RSD because the computer doesnt flash when the battery is dead and doesnt flash without the battery.
thus... he needs a changed battery. you could buy a seperate charger if you like... but it is much more expensive then buying a battery
Ok, I see what you're saying.
Yes, if truly bricked, it's an unbrick operation. Smells bricked, but I find it plausible the OP gets a battery with enough charge to try a boot. It is concerning we couldn't get booted on power without battery, though. That should have worked. Do it all the time working on kernel modules.
Just saying don't unbrick until trying out the new battery, the former of which the OP could do on power alone.
To qualify so no confusion -- I reboot into recovery mod without battery merely by plugin in -- so I can flash over modules. I've never been able to boot in to the OS normally without the battery in, but we still should see the moto logo.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Ok so I ran into an issue here I've never had before. While I was using my phone, it rebooted on me. Not all that uncommon, but this time, after it turned off, it started vibrating and the camera LED started flashing on every vibrate. I've never seen this before. Holding the power button did nothing, and I had to pull the battery. However, this still didn't solve the issue. As soon as I put the battery back in, it would immediately vibrate, flash the Samsung logo, and then nothing. Holding the power will not do anything. Plugging the phone in for charging will just make it continuously vibrate every second.
I'm really stuck here. This is my only phone and not much idea what is going on. I have not changed anything on my phone in months. I'm somewhat led to believe this is the stuck power button issue, since it will immediately vibrate as soon as I put the battery in. But it would seem odd as I didn't touch the power button when it originally went into that odd LED reboot sequence.
Any ideas??
I'm going to say it's a stuck power button. With your finger flick the back of the phone by the power button a bunch of times.

First, I'm going to say it's amazing how problems occur for different people within a short amount of time.
Second, Thank you 440bro. My phone started acting strangely very similarly to how cgi described and I couldn't figure out what the issue was. When I went to into download mode it would shut off 5 seconds later. I'm really surprised the power button didn't unstick when I was doing that. But I flicked mine a few times and wala, working phone. I was all gearing up to buy a new phone too.

I've never had the power button issue, but to me the power button clicks very strongly as it normally would. It does not feel as if it is stuck in..
And I can not get it to go any further than the samsung logo for a split second. I can't get it into download or anything.

Hmm, it sounds like your issue is a little different that mine. Mine acted similarly to yours minus the camera flashing. If I put in the battery, it would vibrate, I'd get the logo, then 4 or 5 seconds later it would turn off. If I put it on charger, it would just vibrate every second or so.
Try this. Take your battery out completely, then put it in while holding the vol down button only. See if the download screen pops up. If it does then it's definitely the power button. If that's it, try using a straight pin to scrape out any crud that worked its way between the case and button.

Sounds the same. However, after getting the logo, it just goes black, then nothing happens after that. On the charger it does the same as yours. It also vibrates every second if I just hold vol down.
The download screen did pop up when i did that. It came up, then went black after maybe 2 seconds.
No amount of flicking or banging this thing is knocking it free. I tried scraping but still nothing. I began to take all the screws out but can't find an easy way to pry the white casing out.
You guys wouldn't believe how many people on here have been through what you're going thru. Including me! My button clicked perfectly. It started rebooting while it was sitting on my tool box. So I couldn't imagine it was the power button. One day I stripped it down too almost nothing. While it was stripped I powered it up and decided to flick various areas with my finger. Flicking the power button fixed it! I was like wtf! It happened a couple months later. Instead of stripping, I started flicking! Cures me every time now.

Well, at least it's reassuring knowing I found my culprit. What isn't so reassuring is that flicking it isn't fixing it. After watching the video for the SII replacement, I'm worried that the switch actually went bad and needs replacement. When you took it apart, how did you disassemble it once you removed all the screws? I tried prying up a bit with a mini screwdriver but I'm worried I'm going to crack the case.
Watch this video how to take it apart.

wooohoooo
Got it booted back up and working again. Thanks everyone.
I really don't know exactly what the cause was. As the above poster mentioned.. I took the thing fully apart and didn't notice anything odd or stuck. The outer part of the button was fine, nothing dirty or stuck, and then the button itself appeared fine and would click seemingly normally. I just took out the outer part of the button to clean it, and just kind of wiggled around the physical button itself. Reassembled and all good so far. It just booted up now.
Hey there. Out of nowhere today my phone rebooted on it's own and is now stuck on the "LG Life's Good" splash screen. I have the AT&T version (H900) and bone stock everything (I have not messed with bootloaders or rooting or anything). I tried removing the battery and this also does nothing. Anyone else have this issue and know what to do to fix it?
Thanks
Update: After letting the phone sit for about 20 minutes it magically booted and is now working fine... not sure what happened.
Have you tried doing a factory reset of you phone?
1) Turn off the phone.
2) Then hold down the Volume Down and Power button together for a couple of seconds.
3) As soon as the LG logo is displayed, let go of the Power key, keep pressing the Volume Down and then press once more the Power button.
Afterwards you should see a factory reset menu on your screen.
4) Confirm process by choosing appropriate options using Volume rockers to navigate and Power button to confirm.
5) Now your phone should restart.
6) Success! The hard reset has just been completed.
I am having this same problem.
Was using Pandora and GPS. It cut off and has not come back on. I attempted to open in safe mode recovery mode l and tried to-do a factory reset.
When I did the reset It went through the erasing process but when it rebooted it stayed on the LG screen. I've tried all the "common" trouble shooting suggestions... Its been two hours now.
Any new experiences with this issue?
Im also having the same issue with my V10 - Verizon model. Watching a YouTube video and it reset and got stuck on the LG logo splash screen. Followed instructions to do a factory reset and after about 45 min of being stuck on the factory reset screen after I confirmed it reset and booted up. All data and setting were still saved, and after about 3-5 minutes it reset again and went right back to being stuck on the LG splash screen.
Any other advice? or is it just dead?
I am having the same issue with my stock AT&T V10. It randomly turned off, then I couldn't even get it to turn on. No charge screen. No Life's Good. I took out the battery and it would get to the blinking red question mark, but there is no way that I can see that I can use the phone without the battery. Sometimes the phone will boot to the LG screen, but mostly it will not. Even if it does, it will shut down after 3 mins or so.
Once I tried to hard reset it, and the phone just vibrated until i took the battery out. So I dont know whats going on. The phone has been running warm when playing Pokemon Go so maybe that's the culprit? Not like I was playing it all the time though.
Luckily I moved *most* of the new baby pictures over to the microSD. Ugh, I hope I can get the rest!

@jjall Very odd. Glad I am not the only one, though! I chatted with an AT&T service tech last night and he basically said he has no idea what is going on, but what he read about something similar indicated that the phone and all the files are most likely corrupted. Luckily I moved most of the photos over to the extra microsd, I am going to an AT&T service center to see if they can work any magic and retrieve any other files. Last night the tech started a warranty replacement and the new(ish) phone is on its way.
I did get it to boot to the white safe mode screen but was not ready to say erase all, just in case it erases the photos. I chose to restart the phone and nothing, just black. Every once in a while the phone will just vibrate for 30 seconds before shutting down while the screen is black. Other times I get the soft vibrate as though it is turning on, but nothing happens. Some times I get the LG screen, but then that just turns off. No rhyme or reason except that I at least get some response after the phone and battery have been apart for a while.
I'll update when I get back.

Yeah. I get the same thing. I'm taking it to att today to see if anything can be done. My only problem is that I dropped the phone a few months ago, the only time i've dropped it, and lens came off without me noticing. I'm pretty sure that voids the warranty. Either way, i'll see if i can pay for an upgrade or something. Good luck to you.

My guys said they could not do anything, but as I was playing with the phone, it magically came to life! I was in the process of moving all the photos to the microsd, then it froze, crashed, then wouldn't turn on. So it's possible! They mentioned taking it to a cell-phone tech place to see if they could do anything as they have better tools to help fix things. Dunno what that would do to the warranty. The tech guys did say they dont carry any spare parts or batteries for the V10 because it never has a problem. I told them that there is a rash going around and they might see it soon.
I did notice that the colder i kept the phone, the more of a chance that it would *at least* turn on, before crashing. So at least there is hope...somewhere. Hoping a new battery will help maybe, even though it seems to be a hardware issue.
How's your luck @jjall?

Actually, i just got home and I decided to try out to see if it worked. I got the 0% battery sign. Plugged it in and it actually seems to be charging! So i'm hopeful. I also noticed that my phone has been getting hot lately. And that my battery life was crap. But that's just LG. I talked to an ATT customer service rep. and they told me that I could have the camera lens replaced so that my phone would be covered for an exchange. Even if it turns on, i'm going to exchange it just as soon as save all my files. Hopefully they'll take it now that it's working....
EDIT
it decided to turn on while it was charging. Froze on booting screen. It was HOT. Like I almost dropped it.
Hmm, I was going to say "CONGRATS!" but sorry. Did the battery get hot or did the phone itself get hot? Feels like mine is getting hot at or near where the led flash is. Gonna let it stay in this LG welcome screen for a bit and find out. I'm wondering if a new battery would help, but I have to wait until the 19th though before my replacement shows up.
Also, were you playing Pokemon go before? Wondering if that is what started this all.
Hello!
So the same thing happened to me. I was not playing any games on my phone. I had JUST clocked out of work using an application on my phone and sent a text. It has turned off on its own and didn't want to even turn back on. I removed the battery and set it back in.. it turned on to the LG screen and stayed until it blacked out again shortly after.
Same issue with TMO LG V-10 here. Was using phone and it went black and shut down. Now in a loop with the LG boot screen. It tried a few times then just goes black.
Well I just got my replacement and the new battery didn't do anything to help the broken phone. Guess I am going to lose some important pictures. I have a few days to keep on trying before I have to send it back to AT&T. Interesting this is happening to a few people all around the same time.
@Buzzbee21 did you notice your phone running hot at all before the shut down? Mine was running hot a lot, so maybe the heat protection is the problem.
At time yes. Not so much when it did quit. However, I left it sit on a fan and chilled it, and one time when I was able to get to the wipe screen, before it quit again, it got very hot in the afformentioned area.
Less than a year old. Getting a warranty replacement, but still disappointed as I think having the replaceable battery and abiltiy to put a large Micro SD card in it, along with the finish, camera, and Audio make the V10 one of the nicest phones out there.

this may sound weird but the same thing happen to me.... put the phone in the freezer for a while then boot it up but be prepared to get your pics, music, etc off of it quick... mine works fine until it warms up to room temp, then back in the freezer it goes to do it again... did it like 4 times today and saved over 1600 pics, bunch of videos and music. (saved them to a mircoSD card)
Wow. This happened to me last night, and I thought it was the weirdest thing. I wasn't even using my phone. It was sitting on my dinner table, and I noticed the screen on with the LG logo. I went over and picked it up. It stayed on the logo a few minutes, so I took the battery out. Then I turned it on, nothing but LG screen. I kept messing with it with a combination of Power/volume down and finally got it to come on to my home screen. It worked for about five minutes before being wonky again. I took the batter out all night. I'm hoping that I can get it to come on again today (I've tried 10 times and not been able to) so that I can make sure the developer options is checked, then I can hook it to the computer and mess around with it.
Thanks for this thread. It seems most of us just started having this issue in August. I'm planning on getting the V20 next month, but I need this one to last until then. haha Please keep us updated if anyone figures anything out and I will do the same.

SO, not saying this will help anything but, after messing around with the phone for several hours I've learned this:
If you take the battery out, then plug it into your laptop, then turn it on: a battery icon will pop up with a ? on it.
From there, if you hold down the VOLUME down key, and insert the battery, it will take you into the quick boot menu automatically. Unfortunately I never set that up, and not it will not allow me to set it up. I assumed I could get to safe mode from there. This is the first time I've seen where I would have to "set up" the quick boot menu. This is my first LG phone though. I usually use HTC, or MOTO.
Now, the more interesting thing is, begin as I did last time.
Phone off, battery out, plug into computer, power on. Then hold the UP volume key as you insert the battery and it will take you to your "Tethering" option. So for most of you that have this problem, maybe you will be able to get the data to back it up. Unfortunately for me, it tells me I have to do a Firmware update first, and to not unplug the USB connection until it is complete. If your firmware is up to date, maybe it will allow you to do back up (I thought my firmware was up to date, but guess not).
I hope this helps someone, and I do hope that someone can build on what I've done so far so we can figure out how to at least get our data off the phone.

The phone got hot. It was getting hot starting from around the power buttons. And it sometimes got hot before i downloaded pokemon go. Not as often, but it happened from time to time. I think it might be because i'm no longer using the original power usb cable.... idk. Just waiting for a replacement.
Can you say the first 3 digits of the serial number of the device to boot loop problem?
