Does vlingo use wolphram alpha? - Galaxy 3 Themes and Apps

So I was testing out s voice and asked what its name was... and it answered wolphram alpha which I know that siri uses.
I thought vlingo was different but not sure.
here is a pic of my answer.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

I don't think it does. I'm pretty sure the only apps out there at the moment are siri and s-voice. correct me if im wrong nayone... :0

yea.. but s voice is created by vlingo

i dont know if thats correct, but even so, wolfram isnt. ask it what its name is and you'll get a different answer. its not wolfram.

Well I'm just curious cause in the pic I, it said name was wolfram alpha. The second time it told me to call it whatever I wanted to.

Speaktoit Assistant is about 100 times better, faster and a lot more

(it even has a teaching mode if you ask for it nicely)

My friend unleashed Siri on me for the first time with his iPhone to show it off. The overall functionality of that program blew my mind the way its able to understand questions and commands in so many different ways and perform its actions... I started looking into an Android alternative, and let me tell you, we got a lot of catching up to do... I tried Iris, and its OK but its laggy and only understands simple commands.... Speaktoit on the otherhand, was way more functional with added features that Siri lacks and has so much potential.... play with it and post your opinions, I'm just glad that the devs jumped on this early and are doing an awesome job with what they've put out... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK LADIES AND GENTS!

I haven't tried speaktoit but I will, but Iris I fond kind of amusing with its sarcastic remarks. My wife asked me to ASK THE PHONE IF SHE WILL MARRY YOU so I did. (My wife has issues with me on the phone tweaking it all the time) and Iris came back with, WE WILL HAVE TO DATE FIRST. My wife about died.
I think it can and will be an amazing app, not bad that the giluy came up with a semi working model of it after ONLY 8 hours. So I would say it is safe to assume he will make it work even better. Now to test out speaktoit.

Hi:
Speaktoit seems awesome. I liked it better than Iris.
I was wondering is there a way to change to a male voice?
I see it gives the options of Pico TTS, or Samsung TTS, but they both sound similar.
How can I add new voices?
Thanks so much!
SVOX is what you're looking for. There may be free apps, but it's worked great for me. Each voice comes with a free two week trial.

You might want to also look at "Eva Intern". Right now I have Vlingo, Speaktoit, and Eva Intern on my phone. Looked at Iris. Don't remember why I uninstalled it.
I prefer straight up Voice Actions. Having it talk back to me is cute and all, but ultimately it just adds time to getting things done. Once the novelty wears off, it's just a nuisance IMO.

I tried Eva....insanely annoying. It wouldn't just read out the text messages that came in, it interrupted anything else I was doing at the time to go full screen and read the message. When I backed out of it it would just go back to the home screen. Even when I told it to exit, it would start back up again. I uninstalled it soon after I began to get annoyed with it.
I currently have Speaktoit, Vlingo Personal Assistant, Iris, and Skyvi.
Speaktoit is pretty decent especially after the last update. Their word filter was so strong you couldn't even ask for information on something if it had what it considered a "bad word" in the name. I did notice that when I give it a name, it doesn't seem to stay set for long. It keeps going back to Sam. It's still pretty sweet though.
Vlingo is pretty nice. I'm thinking I like the app from the market better than the one made for the GSII that came with the phone. I like how it doesn't just read out the responses to you, but lets you choose for it to read them back or not. The voice is also more "natural" than others.
Iris has a long way to go, but looks to be on the right track. I don't like how it repeats what you ask it and then takes longer than it really should to respond to you. The quirky responses are pretty funny at times.
Skyvi is one I haven't really heard people mention, but I found it in the market and gave it a shot. I like how you can connect to facebook and twitter and then interact with those services from the app. You can have it read your news updates from facebook, your own wall, or other friends' walls. You can also have it read your twitter feed out loud to you. This is among the other typical voice commands most of the others have. I haven't seen any others that will read your facebook and twitter feeds to you though.
Pretty funny that Iris is just Siri spelled backward. Hope it ends up working well.

I've been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks and learning from the great minds here. Glad I was finally able to provide some helpful information.
-rip
Posting the APK is great, but the question remains; why is it not visible in the market for the AT&T Note? I've had several examples of apps recently that I was surprised are not available in the market.
Car Home - Although theories that this is filtered on the carrier or Samsung level
Euphoria - Live wallpaper! Nothing fancy, and works fine from apk
Bah, I had one more... Not remembering it offhand.. None of the ones I've seen are for a higher SDK, as I've sideloaded all of them fine.. But why? I wish the market gave the reason an app was "incompatible". But I suppose "Carrier restricted" would have people raging.
The Groupon app is in the Google Play market, it just isn't compatible with the I717 GNote. I sent Groupon an email and they responded saying they are working to make the app compatible. Who knows when that will be though?

I was going to download the official TED app tonight, but guess what, also not compatible. Nonsense.
I wonder if it's the DPI or screen size? I know some apps do filter based on DPI.

[Q] Can S Voice be modded?

(Strange bug earlier caused multiple empty posts.. Sorry!)
Anyway.. I was trying to ask if any of the devs know if S Voice will be able to be modded similar to Siri. I've seen several Siri mods in Cydia offering more functionality such as different responses, ability to turn phone functions on/off, insults, facts and more.
Can that be done to S Voice too?
This is still something I am curious about.
It would be a good idea to have it listening all the time. I don't see why it should be a problem apart from battery life.

You can set it to listen from the lockscreen. You just need to say "Hi Galaxy" and it S voice starts. It's quite a battery drainer tough
Well it's essentially a modded Vlingo, but I haven't seen any dev mods for that.
Google just announced their alternative to S-Voice will be part of Jelly Bean so I imagine we'll be getting a lot more mod options for that.
Ehh... I didn't really see Google Now as a Siri/S Voice competitor.

Why not? Google Now looks very promising and if anybody can do it better than Apple, it's Google.
Ignore my previous statement. I was only not looking at Google Now as a Siri competitor because it was not an audio assistant. After looking back and rewatching a few points in the keynote, I am more inclined to agree with you.
Didn't help that I was up for 38 hours when I was watching it. lol
Now, I am more curious what Samsung will do with S Voice. Personally, I hope they keep it and somehow integrate Google Now into it or something. It would be nice to say "HI GALAXY" and access Google Now stuff or something.. Hmmm

Well the wake up command comes from Sensory, rather than Vlingo so I can definitely see a possibility to wake the galaxy to Google search, instead of s voice.

New to android, and tons of questions

Well, the title of the post says it all
1 - Is there a cydia app like for android? Or all of the tweaks and stuff are only on the web and on Market (Google Play)?
2 - Is there a way to show my company carrier logo on the statusbar?
3 - Can I, through any method, change the display app name, in appgrid? Not in homescreen.
4 - Why if I dial *#7465625# nothing shows up? Depends of the ROM?
5 - Any way to have a better adjustement of the volume without depending on apps like Fime Volume Control?
6 - Any way to make the brightness minimum lower without depening on apps like ScreenDim?
7 - Any way to put a youtube video in video popup mode?
8 - Is there a tweak to put internal storage in mass storage mode? I know the one for external.
9 - How can I have a total control of the background app? I have tried advanced task manager, but as soon as I kill one process, for example Brower, it comes back itself within seconds. How can I control autostars of apps?
10 - Can I remap the buttons? For example, for a customize action when I long press the home button.
11 - How do the themes and mods work? On the iPhone the themes were images in folders, and the system images were in certains paths, so if I wanted to change something I just needed the correct path, even to make my custom images. How does all that work on android?
12 - How do I customize keyboards? Just installing new ones? Is that the only way?
Before answer me, please note, I am NOT a total noob, I perfectly know what root is, just like I know stock, CWM, and all of that. I have a custom ROM. I know about the system, I'm just new to it and because of that I dont' know where certains things are.
Thanks and sorry if anything is bad written, but english is no my native language.

I'm going to try and answer your questions as much as I can.
1. Since each phone has its own specific mods and utlities there is no "universal app" like Google Play or Cydia. However there are a few apps for SGS3 like the Omega kitchen Files app (Play Store) and Kitchen Pro app which is locked to CheckRom.
2. This might be what you are looking for. https : //play .google. com/store/apps/details?id=com.infonetservice.phono
3.https : / /play. google. com/store/apps/details?id=com.guardam.AppNameEditor&hl=en App Name Editor on Play Store.
4. AFAIK some ROMs remove that "utlity"
5. AFAIK no but lets see what someone else has to say.
6. Same as 5
7. You could use a youtube downloader. There are plenty in Play store. I dont know of any other way.
Google and XDA have a ton of anwers if you search. This is not kindergarten
I'm terribly sorry about the bumping. I won't happen again. But then, how are people going to see my post if it goes under page 2 or 3?
Greatnesss, you have give me solutions for questions 1, 2, 3 and 4. Thanks very much.
About questions 5 and 6, let's wait for others and see.. I have seen something about the volume in this forum, some mod, but it was tooo complicated. I even tried it, but with no result.
About question 7, I mean to watch youtube in popup video, but live, not to download the video first (I like to watch long duration videos and sometimes I want to put them in an external mini-window to browse something at the same time, for example).
I still have no answers to questions 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Sorry, I forgot to number them :S
Thanks to all. You have help me a lot.

I think the problem your running into here is everything works differently than what you are use to in Apple products, most people here are Android addicts so they might not understand what cydia does, here is different its wide open instead of an app adding the correct files you do it yourself in adb and moding apks. There's a lot to read here if Apple was your starting point, there's much more that you can do with Android and everything you asked about is possible with some reading and time.

Its not a hard attitude. Its my impatience for incompetence showing.
Its called 'search'. Its a matter of using the deductive reasoning any grade schooler should understand innately.
1.Q: Is the email app here?

2. Q: How do I then get it?
A: I look for the apk file to install.
Now if you answer question 2 with, "ask xda developers", then something is fundamentally wrong with your problem solving skills and you should feel bad about yourself.
