Can I use metro pcs's lte network on the thunderbolt? I'm going to metro for a couple of months before I go to verizon and when is this beast coming out?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
different frequencies means no. Not to mention the device will most likely be locked, does anybody even offer LTE sim unlocks?
for reference,
MetroPCS is doing LTE on the 1700Mhz band
Verizon is doing LTE on the 700Mhz band
Can't wait to see some Verizon phones get unlocked. It will just be a crazy feeling I tell you. Hopefully in the next couple of years they can cut out this *228 horse **** and that's the only thing I like better about att is sim cards.

Here is my issue. I am currently in the US. I might teach ESL overseas in Korea in January. I am not sure which phone to get. Will the USA one work over in Korea? Will thew international one work in the US?
It could work but Sprint has the radios locked.
Would developers be able to get them unlocked?
Buy international set

They propably can but the intl one supports more radio frequensies and is assembled to work worldwide so I'd buy it in any case rather than us version.

The international one works in the US flawless... just not on all carriers... it works the best on AT&T if you want to use it in the US and get 4G(HSPA+)
You can use it on T-Mobile but you will have to settle for EDGE(2G)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It would work on most carriers which uses the international frequencies.
Not just AT&T for US. Works with Rogers, Fido, Telus, and Bell Mobility in Canada for instance.

Just a side note, HSPA+ is not 4G. It's still 3G. LTE/WiMax is 4G.
so which companies will it work with 4g/lte? Will it not work with Sprint? Anyone know any deals for the international version?
Sprint (and Verizon) is on an old CDMA network while the majority of the world is on GSM, you know, operating with a SIM card. If you're set on travelling, it's better to get any of the GSM-variant, that way, you can just pop in any sim card from any major carriers all over the world.
I currently have a photon which has a sim card slot in it. So the Galaxy s international wont work on Sprint? Damn I want to keep my SERO plan lol. So where can I get an international verison from? Also would I have to pay full price for it?
Does the photon has an active sim card in it? I'm assuming no. I've never used a dual-mode phone before (nor am I familiar with how they operate on different networks), so I dont know the ins-and-outs on how to get it activate for a GSM carrier.
Damn, now i have a headache just trying to figure out how it works to have an intl GSM phone on a network that is predominantly CDMA whom happens to offer a dual-mode phone on their network

The SIM in the Photon is just for roaming. Sprint does not use SIM cards - even their LTE phones have them embedded rather than user-accessible.
As the Sprint Galaxy S III is not a 'global' phone - i.e. does not have both GSM/UMTS and CDMA radios - do not purchase it if you have any intention of using it outside the US. CDMA is no longer a global technology.
Confuses me a little that people spend so much on devices without checking what networks they support. Ho-hum.

Just sharing my experience with this phone as a global phone.
I nabbed myself a DNA before going to study abroad in London. The Verizon plan was hell to pay so I suspended my account -- $15 per 3 months -- and got a new SIM from giffgaff. Giffgaff gives me unlimited UK texts, unlimited 200+ kilobyte/sec internet, and 250 mins calling for 12 pounds a month. ~$18).
Setup was easy -- literally pop in the new SIM. No calling Verizon or anything. Was ready to go immediately and have had zero problems on the UK network. Reception is great everywhere except underground but hey what can you do.
Definitely recommend the phone for global use!
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Good to know. While I have no travel plans in the future, being a life long Verizon subscriber I've never actually had a capable "world phone" before (I had to buy an absurdly overpriced pre-paid dumb phone last year since my TB didn't work in Spain) so it's nice to know I do now!
what type of network coverage do you get 2g 3g or 4g from them
The UK only has one LTE network right now (EE), and I doubt they're on the same bands as Vzw. So it'll be 3G.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I'm actually unsure what it is. I think it's like AT&Ts fake 4g (not LTE). I've seen it say "E," "3G," and usually it says "H."
Giffgaff uses the same network as O2. Verizon's whole thing over here I believe is Vodafone

I thought the DNA didn't work internationally? Nearly got the Maxx instead of the DNA because amazon's comparison tool says the DNA doesn't work outside of the US/Canada.
Amazon is competely wrong then. It has gsm and cdma radios so it can work on any gsm network and it is already SIM unlock.

This is not 100%, but just my understanding. The T-mobile version shouldn't have the radio frequencies , or even the same technology (gsm vs. CDMA) as the verizon S4. Dont think there is any amount of software modifications that an allow it either.
No, you cannot use it. It lacks the hardware radio.

It's possible. %100. I'm going to start working on it now that I got my VZ S4 from work...(I have tmo for my personal phone). Learn about frequencies, modulation, SDRs...etc.

Its possible but not probable because VZW is still using CDMA so is Sprint and I do not think the TMo/ATT/GE version have the baseband nor the radios to support CDMA. Once LTE band 4 is enabled and VoLTE is prevalent then the phone can be seemless across carriers.
I know it work the other way around
I put a prepaid att sim card in my ZVW s4 and it worked! As the vzw s4 comes stock as a world phone and can be used on gsm networks. Without unlocking. So if you unlock your TM s4 you should be able to pop in a vzw 4g sim and be OK?
I don't think you will have 4G though if you got a buddy with a vzw 4g phone grab his sim and try it after you unlock.
Att - gsm
T-Mobile - gsm
Sprint - cdma
Verizon - cdma / gsm 4g lte

Again the Tmo/ATT/GE do not support the LTE bands on VZW/SPRINT nor do they support CDMA/EVDO.
The VZW variant should work on any GSM network with a sim swap and APN switch but LTE will be limited or not available.
Right so he won't get 4g/4g lte
But should be OK on 3g after the apn settings are configured I believe. Hope this helps
I tryed to post an image or link but I can't yet cuz I'm still a noob here at xda sorry

You CAN, but that does mean you'll want to.
T-Mobile utilizes 2 spectrums for HSPA+ and LTE. 1700/2100 for both. Without access to both spectrums the device will not receive data. Best you'll get is EDGE, which is only from interoperability with AT&T.
There are not interoperability standards for 4G LTE so you couldn't use this on AT&T LTE either.
So yes you can do it, but you won't like the service.

You cannot use the T-Mobile S4 on Verizon, period. It doesn't support CDMA or LTE band 13 which are the only bands that Verizon currently offers service.
Now if you had a Verizon S4 you could use that on T-Mobile since it supports HSPA on the PCS band and LTE on band 4 which are both used by T-Mobile for 3G and 4G but that isn't what the original poster asked about.

The question is will a t-mobile S4 work on VZW. The answer is no, it will not. Not unless that MDM9215 spontaneously changes into an MDM9615.

Can you guys please read the data sheets on the APQ8064T, MDM9215M, and WTR1605L...then come back and tell us how it won't work.
Edit: Hint....the 9215 is what is inside the Nexus 4....which I also own....running LTE on T-Mobile...

With the right hacks...yes. It's possible man.
This article (from QComm) states that the 9615 is capable of CDMA
This link shows very little difference between the 9615 and the 9215...
Again, I implore you all to be diligent when it comes to exploring new ideas...don't just dismiss something as not possible. There's no such thing.
Edit: Just incase the second link to the PDF doesn't work or is REALLY slow...I've attached the document to the post. Also, I took the time to spoon feed someone the info in another post linked here ....
Edit 2: Nevermind, the PDF is 2.5MB...won't let me attach it.
You may want to do a bit more research on the MDM9215. It does NOT support CDMA. It is only used in UMTS/GSM + LTE devices. CDMA support is what differentiates the MDM9615 from its sibling. This was explicitly noted by Qualcomm at UPLINQ 2012 as part of their QCMB API presentation.
So once again I will reiterate that a T-Mobile S4 lacks the necessary hardware to operate on Big Red. Furthermore, it is a simple matter to note that the MDM9215's commercial availability is limited to UMTS/GSM + LTE devices.
No amount of mad hacking skillz can overcome that hardware limitation. It would be necessary to replace the MDM9215 with a MDM9615, which is far from being a simple plug and play operation.

Crap..my retarded ass read it as VZ S4 on Tmo...not the other way around...in that case, you're right...my apologies...I've been researching getting the VZ S4 working on Tmo....since that's what I'm going to be doing.
Again...my apologies.
I have the Verizon galaxy S4 running Loki'd Hyperdrive rom and I'm on T-mobile, but I only get 2G (AKA edge and too slow for mms) how can I get T-Mobiles HSPA+?
I was using AT&T's AIRVOICE and got HSPA+ but always got redirected tot he GoPhone account empty screen. so HSPA+ worked but AT&T wasn't fond of my s4 being verizon branded. So I switched to T-Mobile and I HATE Edge. but it's better than nothing.
You can't get a device on Verizon that was not part of the Verizon database to work.
Look at the new Nexus 7, even with the correct frequencies, people are having a hell of a time trying to get a device with the right LTE bands to activate.
If it's not sold as a Verizon device, sell it and buy something else.
Figured we should make one for SPRINT news. I signed up for updates at sprint.com/note3 but that is all I am hearing. What do you guys know!?!?!
Odd that they have yet to have any info on the note 3.. I work for sprint and they had a device hands on video on the 5th of sept.. but thats all that we got..

Sprint where are you?
I'm disappointed we haven't head anything from Sprint lately.
After T-Mobile announced Jump, and then AT&T and Verizon quickly following up with Edge and Next I thought for sure Sprint would announce something. But so far nothing.
And now, no news on the Note 3, one of the big phone releases of the year.
No recent news on Network Vision
Following completion of the Softbank deal I really expected things would really start to roll. Maybe it's too soon but I'm seriously looking at T-Moble and their Jump program.
I visited a Sprint store today and they were less than knowledgeable about the Note 3. It'll probably land sometime in October, but they didn't know when.
I'm going to jump ship to either T-Mobile or AT&T, though. Probably T-Mobile - Maybe I'll actually get usable data rates

Tri-Band Sprint Coverage???/
Has anyone been able to verify yet if the new NOTE 3 will be Tri-Band capable on Sprint? (800mhz, 1900mhz, 2600mhz??) I have been purposely waiting for the Note 3 as I expected it to be tri-band for increased coverage with the 800mhz LTE functionality. I have heard on some other sites however that the Note 3 may not have Sprint Tri-Band LTE capability. If this is true, that would be a Note 3 show stopper for me as we need phones that will offer better and faster LTE coverage, not just the single 1900 default. Anyone heard anything yet?
