locked rom questions - Motorola Photon 4G

ok so i have 3 questions on locked roms
1 - is there a fully functional version of the locked rocko rom with no really major issues? i tried one version but was getting errors when trying to use settings and kept getting force closes. And what is the difference between this locked rocko rom and the stock rom.
2 - how good is the imperium initiative rom (locked of course)
3 - what is the best alternative to backup and restore all my apps? i dont want to loose the many hours i spent on apps
any info would be greatly appreciated

i'm not sure if there are any locked roms that are bug free out there. so you'll have to look yourself. since the locked roms are basically just themed stock roms you shouldn't have to wipe your data before flashing a new rom. if you do have to wipe data try using titanium backup or another app that saves app data which you can find lots of in the play store. hope some of this helps you out.

[Q] Flashing CM7

Hey guys, My current rom right now is CM7 with imoseyens kernel, its great and all but i am experiencing things i didnt experience before i.e. bugs and lags and I am just wondering how can i go back to the original cm7 rom+kernel without loosing all my apps (cracked ones). Thats all i really care about. I am rooted via the 1 click root in ScoobarSTI's tutorial in the general section. Thanks for reading
Just back up the apps using Titanium back up. You should really pay the Devs. And I've experienced problems with the imo kernel I'm on sense now tell there's a actually a kernel with no bugs on aosp.
I have have so much apps and i wish i could support them all unfortunately i can only support a couple
If your going to be using the same cm7 again then just flash it on top of your current setup. I will retain your apps and flash the stock kernel again.
Well, I am learning a lot of things on HOW TO ANDROIDS. I am glad my iPhone broke and that I got an android now. It's so awesome, I decided to go with Thunderstick since it has a working MyVerizon and NFL Mobile. Thanks for your help guys.
ya, just use titanium backup. and make sure to backup your rom, so if you do lose your apps somehow, you an just restore the rom and get them back

Rooted...Now what?

I just rooted my Gs2, I have flashed my captivate many times: roms/ kernels/ modems. But it's been so long i having trouble remembering what next. I don't want to flash a rom as of yet, waiting for ics, cm9. but i do want to take advantage of being rooted, I would love to Uninstall all bloat ware, and freeze all apps that always seem to be running in the background even tho i auto kill them all the time. So.... What are things i should do to acheive the above "wants" and what else do i need "apps" etc. I might think about flashing a rom sooner than later. What is this odin mobile or cwm mobile i have read about? Where to get it? I have flashed roms in the past using cwm by putting rom on sd, and flashing. I DO NOT want to trip my rom counter !! thanks sorry for all the questions.

You can use titanium backup to freeze or uninstall the bloatware. In terms of flashing ROMs I use entropy's kernel which has clockworkmod and works the same way as you're used to. I'm not sure how to change the kernel without incrementing the flash counter though.
I tried installing busy box, said there was a problem, try reinstalling custom ROM. But I haven't flashed a ROM. Only rooted using Odin.
Stock GSII "rooted" patiently awaiting Ics or CM9.
I have installed Tibu pro, how do I freeze or install apps
Stock GSII patiently awaiting Ics or CM9.
Correction above.... Uninstall bloatware

[Q] I'm a noob. Help?

I just recently got my Atrix 4G, I'm new to Android. I've done a lot of research relative to custom roms, rooting, kernals. I know how to root, Im sketchy about roms and kernals. I just wanna make my phone ATT stock free. It makes it slow, and I know this device can do so much more. But I just wanna know what I should do. I don't know whether to do these roms:
1: [ics] cm9 by photon dev team. 1/16/12
2: Official cm7 for Atrix Stable Only
3:[rom] cm7-ics-mod2 [11/01/12]
4: [P-rom] Gingerblur v. 4.5
Kernals: by faux123
Gingerbread enhanced stock kernal
Cyanogen 7 enhanced stock kernal
I do not want to hard brick my new phone.
I would like to know what ROM is the best, I like the gingerblur stability but i like the ICS theme. But Cyanogen is well known for great ROM. Just a mess. What kernal would I use for these specific roms? What do you prefer?
first install android-sdk -your pc type
onto your pc include /tools and platform-tools as far as kernals some roms dont like some kernals soo for example of you download and install darkside it has fauxs 1.0 kernal soo dont change it to some strange china built stick with fauxs and you cant go wrong

So prior to installing the software, what does that necessarily do? Relative to ROMS and Kernal files. I know I need ROM manager and Titanium backup apps with root for backup reasons and stuff.
First of all you will have to unlock the bootloader to install a recovery manager.
The noob guide will help you a lot. You need to first unlock your bootloader before you do any flashing.
Once that is done a recovery like Clockworkmod Recovery needs to be flashed, I'm pretty sure you can just do this through Rom Manager.
At this point, your options are expanded greatly. For most roms and kernels, you just need to download the rom, and drag and drop it into your internal sd card. After that you can go into recovery via Rom Manager. Once there, wipe your factory settings, cache, and dalvik cache (in advanced). Once this is done, do apply zip from sd card then choose from internal card then navigate to the rom you downloaded. Just make sure you want to do this because it will wipe everything from your phone except what is on your sd cards.
You don't need to mess around with the zip files at all when you download them. Just take the file you downloaded and get it to your sd card. The recovery will do the rest. Same goes with kernels. Just make sure that you have the right one for what rom you're on and flash it in recovery when after you are done setting up your new rom.
As far as roms go it just depends what you want. Right now its the motoblur or cm7 and just read what rom has the features you want the most.
Hopefully this helps a little, this is a basic idea of what you have to do. Flashing roms is not as hard as you think. Just be careful unlocking the bootloader. Anything else just ask away.
Well, first of all, since all the posts above have told you how to install roms and such, I won't go through that. I will say that you really don't have to download a new kernel, as most roms come with one that works just fine with them.
As far as which rom to go with, it depends on what you want.
If you want webtop and fingerprint scanner, and most the little blur apps that come with the stock phone with more mods and features go with wet dream, its a pretty nice rom
If all you want is webtop and fingerprint scanner and dont care about blur, go with a deblurred rom, I have used darkside and alien roms and they are both great, but I would say darkside has the most extra features. Aura also falls in this category.
If you want the fingerprint scanner then you can choose CM7 Weekly #4, or Neutrino Rom, which is based off of CM7 W#4, however both have some issues with wifi/bluetooth that you might want to read the forums about before flashing, and also Neutrino requires much more additional flashing for extra features, which is a good and a bad thing, good because you don't have to get any features you don't want and bad because you spend more time downloading and flashing zips.
If you don't care about webtop/fingerprint scanner/blur apps, and just want speed and stability then CM7 Ba2tf is the way to go, its completely stable and very fast as long as you follow install instructions.
As far as the CM9 roms, those aren't meant for noobs, they are in alpha testing and development so they are potentially unstable, so its best to wait for stable releases, or at the very least betas
The rom I am using now is Neutrino, and I am enjoying it alot, but you just have to go through the roms and find out about what they feature and don't feature, and of course there are plenty of other roms in the forum that I am completely ignorant about such as MIUI, so just look around and see what you like
ps when you do use someones rom, be sure to at least hit the "thanks" button at the bottom of their post. They put a lot of time and effort in it and it's always nice to get a thanks

android-sdk will allow you to use fast boot and adb and allow phone to communicate to the pc in the event it messes up and you will need fastboot and adb shell to root and unlock the bootloader

Well I believe you're confused, which is understandable.. What you're talking about is unlocking the phone by buying a code to put in so you can use any carriers sim card, you don't need to do that
to unlock the bootloader you just follow the steps in the noob guide for unlocking, that will allow you to install a custom recovery, which, yes, is required for flashing any custom roms
Yes you have to unlock the bootloader, install clockwork mod recovery and then a custom rom. there is some work here, it is all documented in the development section of this forum. As for a rom, I am currently on cm9, however for stability I would suggest cm7 by Turl and team Atrix.
unlocking your bootloader IS different than unlocking the phone to other carriers its 2 differnt things and yes
before a custom rom can be installed the bootloader has to be unlocked
(takes 5 min)

Thank you to everyone who helped with my situation. I'm currently running jokersax cm9 special build w/ faux123 cm9 1ghz kernal and I absolutely love it.

[Q] i717 stock ROM without losing root?

I've seen a few tutorials by different people on how to unroot, and go back to stock on their phones, but I actually just want to go back to stock ICS, (preferably not gingerbutt) but I don't want to lose my root, or remove Clockwork Recovery, etc. I'm not needing to return this for warranty replacement, or anything. I'm currently running CM10 with the 12/8/12 nightly and I get random reboots here and there as well as my alarm clock force closing or locking up and not actually waking me up in the morning, lol.
It's actually happened on a few different ROMs, and I've decided to just stick with a rooted phone, but go back to stock ICS.
Would it be safe to just download a stock AT&T i717 ROM and flash it with Clockwork? thanks for any help.
edit:
Also, to answer some questions which will likely be asked:
I flashed with the latest Clockwork
I wiped data, factory resetted/cache/Dalvik, etc each time I tried a new ROM
Installed the ROM properly no hiccups.
Installed GAPPS after this, and then rebooted my phone every time.
Just get a rooted rom and flash it with CWM.
Flapjaxxx and Bigfau have nice debloated ICS roms, with important mods like OC kernels, toggles, and power menus.

Thanks rangercaptain, I'll search for those and try them out. I *really* like LiquidSmooth's ROM, and I like CM10 as well, but the random reboots are starting to get on my nerves.
I flashed bigfau's stock deodexed ics today (clean on and brand new device) and had some minor issues. I'd go with flapjaxx stock ics rom, and I would post a link but I haven't found the rom yet (hint hint will someone post it please)

[Q] what is my atrix 4g status?

Thank you for the answer for the old question.
I want to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167927 this.
I have epinter CM10.1 now.
What I need to do?
Do I need just enter the CWM and wiped everything and then flash the zip file?
or I need to do something more?
OLD:
I rooted my device with some quick root tool. (I don't remember where I found the guild).
I have unlocked my bootloader too. (I don't really remember but I think I made that with a guild from androidadvices. His title is :"How to Unlock Motorola Atrix 4G Mobile Phone")
My device is bought from ORANGE. (I think that I belong to Bell's group of ROMs. not AT&T).
I have flashed CM10 by epinter and then CM10.1 by epinter.
Now I want to give the phone to my little brother and I want to flash a ROM with all the webtop apps and blur apps.
I want a ROM with the minimum bugs. I prefer based of official 2.3.6 ROM
What ROM can you suggest me?
Do I need to do some changes with the phone before wipeing everything in the CWM and flashing ROMs ?
Thanks ahead.
This is based on 2.3.6 and is an updated version of a rom that many of us used for a long time as our daily driver.
