I have seen some information about entering a service menu with a code along the lines of *#1973 to access volume gain settings. I am not sure if this applies to the Note since entering that menu yields no settings. Have any of you found another method to increase the volume without using apps like volume+, etc. which seem to do this at the software level?

Any setting you change is going to be software level...not like you can go in and tweak some SMD values and components and change hardware in a menu.
I didn't see a volume or gain code in a quick find in page in this thread either. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520115

Supposedly we can enter service mode by entering *#197328640#, then select [5]Audio to change default volume levels.
http://www.ctrlplusz.com/2011/06/fix-for-low-microphone-volume-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s-ii/
But when I clicked [5]Audio, nothing shows up. It goes back to main menu.
Anybody knows if it's an AT&T thing, or some other settings I need to change?
Many thanks in advance.
Anybody else having the same issue? Or is it just me?
Running Cog777 and it is there for me.
Same results, I would imagine what he was doing was for the Intl Version, and probably won't work on the i777.
Although the menus there are interesting...

You mean the Audio option is there, or you actually have submenus under Audio?
I can see the [5] Audio option. But there's no submenus.
I'm running hellraised crrevolution 2.0 and I have all the options but every time I try to change the volume I get a message that the menu doesn't exist. I think it is locked down in either the kernel or modem cuz I'm running an international rom and all menu options are there you just can't change anything.

What's the filename/type and location for a screen off sound (primary question), screen on sound, power off sound, and file type for a power down animation?
Also is there a proper list of those ussd codes you can type on the dialpad to perform functions like reboot, wipe phone, check unlock status etc.
Xda app search is giving me no results.

-Does anyone know how to group apps? I'm starting to have problems finding an app I need because the screen is already full and there many apps that I rarely use and I wanted to group this apps into a separate folder.
-Another thing I tried was disabling the camera tone but with no luck. Does anyone know how to disable it?
Thanks,

For grouping apps I'm using Nova Prime launcher and you can create different launcher tabs for what ever you like.
I believe the camera tone issue is legally motivated, in some places it is illegal to de-activate the camera sound I believe so I think this is why you can't turn it off from the settings, if you flash a custom ROM there is usually an option to turn it off (with a warning) but on stock ROMS usually not.
Hope that helps,
R.
Which launcher do u use?

If its touchwiz, there os an option to create a folder in the homescreen and drawer, just long click choose add to home screen and select folder, for the drawer clock on the menu button when in drawer mode, it will give u an option ro hidde aps amd also create folders...for the camera sound, root it...

I'm using touchwiz. I found out the option that you can create a folder in the homescreen but I was hoping to group the apps in the menu and not just hide them.
I also rooted my phone yesterday but I couldn't find anything to disable the camera tone. I guess l'm gonna have to install another launcher and see if sorts out.
Anyaway thanks,

I haven't (yet) rooted my phone, but I can take "shutter sound" away. You need to tick your volume rocker to minimize system sounds to silent. Then you can take pictures without shutter tone. Just remember put vol back up after.

Sorry what do you mean whith "volume rocker"? If you are refering to the volume key that didn't work out for me, I even turned off every sound in the settings=>sound but even that didn't work out .

Hmm maybe there really are localisation differences. Vol-key brings camera sounds off atleast in my device.
Just upgraded to HTC Jewel from the HTC Supersonic and decided to slap cm10 onto it. I was previously running CM7 nightlies so the os change is pretty significant. i'm still adapting to this only-3-hardware-buttons thing, not liking it either
i did a full unlock / s-off / root using http://unlimited.io/jewel.htm (hboot 2.09). following that, i did a full wipe and flashed the latest CM10 nightly from http://get.cm/?device=jewel (cm-10-20130113-NIGHTLY-jewel.zip) and the last compatible 4.1.2 gapps (20121011) from http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps#Jelly_Bean_.28Android_4.1.x-4.2.x.29
everything is pretty much working except i have no idea why some things are missing...things i would normally use the hardware "menu" button for before. i also have some other things which i cannot seem to configure.
how do i mount the external SD card rather than internal storage over USB? i see no options for this anywhere, nor any setting to set it as default. i can only do it in TWRP recovery...
is there a way to tweak the long-keypress duration?
for some reason my Play Store has neither a "My Apps" section nor a menu icon next to the search icon. how do i access the play stor "menu" or settings?
the CM10 file manager has no "menu" icon either so that i can switch it into root mode.
for the last two, it almost seems like CM10 thinks there is a hardware "menu" button present on this phone, so it hides the menu icon in numerous apps. perhaps it's a CM10 build misconfig?
if anyone has any idea, plz let me know. my phone is quite crippled because of this. thx!
for now i'm working around the "no menus" issue by assigning a "Open/close menu" action on the "App switch key (long press)" in the hardware keys config.
System settings > system > hardware keys
to set up a menu key rather than a recent apps key which you can set up with a long press if you like.

yes, as i mentioned, that's what i'm doing now. but it *should* be showing the menu icons in the apps by default on devices that have no hardware menu keys.
Really? I guess your right. i just checked my galaxy nexus and it has the settings button in the top right.
I've always used the Button remap so never really cared i guess.

apparently, there's already an issue opened for this last month. added my $0.02 to it.

Doesn't checking the overflow box in settings>hardware keys fix that?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Yeah, mine has menu button, if I'm understanding you right.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
The setting at bottom right.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
yes, it does fix it. but it was not obvious at all to me even though i did see the option only after digging in the hardware key remapping (which typical users won't do). that option needs to be on by default when the menu key is missing on the device and renamed in my opinion. how is "show action overflow" an obvious restoration of the amputated and necessary "menu" button?
Right. "Show action overflow" is not clear at all to me, either. Glad ya got it, though.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Cool. Thanks Scott. I didn't know that.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
It should be default, mostly because the overflow is a nicer experience than the hardware buttons.
as to questions 1 and 4
1. currently theres no way to see it via the built in usb mode manager. you have to use multi-mount to mount the external SD card
4. i dont really use CM file manager for that i just use es file manager theres root ability in it.
There's root access in CM file manager too. But gid I hate their file explorer. I can never find the options I want or need.

I would suggest rebooting to recovery to move files. Less overhead, and its not like it takes forever to boot cm anyway...

Sorry if this is something easy to do via settings that I may have overlooked. I was curious if there is any way to control all volumes with the volume rocker as single volume control. Although it's nice to have the option to control them individually I would love to be able to turn down all volumes using the rocker (Ringtone, Notifications, System etc). At the very least maybe Ringtone and Notifications. Thanks in advance!

I'm bumping this as I would really like to know this too. The ringtone and notifications go hand in hand and I'd really like to link them. It's handy to put the volume down with the rocker when going into a meeting, not so handy to have to expand the volume and slide the notifications too.
I'm using touch wiz (hyper actually), I'm not sure about OP.

Your best and easiest option is to download one of the many volume control apps in the market; specifically those that allow you to set and control volume presets from within a widget. A couple that come to mind include Volume Control+ and Widgitsoid. You won't be using the rockers, but you'll only need one or two soft-key clicks to quickly change to preconfigured volume settings.
Also note that when you change any of the volumes, there is a button on the popup that comes up which expands so that you can adjust any of the volumes.

Yeah that's what I wanted to avoid. I read in another thread about setting a tasker profile to link them. I never thought of that so I'm going to give that a try first.

That's what I'm currently doing. I'd just like to remove that extra step.
EDIT: I ended up configuring a tasker profile to automatically sync the volumes for me. The process is completely transparent so it is an acceptable solution for me.
