I recently rooted my phone and I'm still using the stock ROM. I downloaded Root Uninstaller to remove some bloatware, and I must have accidentally removed an important phone function because the "slide here" bubble on the unlock screen has disappeared and I cannot access the phone. My computer also does not recognize the phone which is odd.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I wouldn't imagine the phone is bricked as it still displays the background and receives calls and text messages, I'm just not able to interact with the phone in any way.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
If you have a nandroid then I'd recommend a restore, especially if your not sure what you removed.

Sounds like you uninstalled htclockscreen.apk I remember reading something on here about how to restore that.

If you don't have a nandroid backup, and if you don't want to lose any data, I would boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, and reflash the stock rom. Or wipe everything and start fresh.
"We're coming from a pure power source."
Thanks for the information guys - I had backups so I just wiped everything as I wasn't sure exactly what was missing.
Guess I should do some research before I start removing things!

I believe you can remove HTClockscreen AFTER you have installed some other lockscreen. As for tinkering, as long as you have backups, no harm, no foul.

hey, to make a long story short since i'm sure you don't wanna have to read a whole page,
this my first Android phone coming from iPhone. I had originally gotten the skyrocket, but after getting throttled the second day and wanting to be able to customize and reading the i777 is the superior device, I decided to swap back to the i777 yesterday.
I had the skyrocket rooted and used titanium backup to backup my apps and system data. so I rooted this phone and tried to restore ask the apps and system data. everything at first looked like a perfect switch, but now I found problems. so far from what I've found, when I try to change ringtones using Android system the phone freezes and then it said that it had to force close.
the purge problem is the alarms, when I try to edit one or create a new one, it freezes again and force closes.
does anyone know a way to make it work while keeping all my apps and not having to start from scratch again? I'd be fine with having to redo all the settings and options if I have to
thanks for any help

TiBu has an option for only "missing apps and data" when restoring - this is the only safe option (in rare cases even it fails, but it's rare).
There's also an experimental "system data migration" option in TiBu that's off by default - I've never used it, and be warned that it may not work at all when trying to change to a completely different device.
ok, so you're saying
instead of doing the "restore apps plus system data", do the "restore missing apps with data"?

This is exactly the kind of attitude that causes newbies to get flamed. This is NOT the Help Desk. No one is paid to help you in here. We expect you to FIND help for yourself by reading and when no help can be found, THEN post. Laziness is not to be rewarded. Anyone familiar with TiBU knows that you should almost never restore system data with it because it will cause problems except in specific situations. Had you done a little searching and reading you would have likely come across this info as it is well documented in here. Be thankful Entropy took pity on you and gave you the right answer despite your laziness.

oh ok thanks, and the best way to redo everything is do a factory reset and restore from backup that way? I will still have my root correct?

My attitude is fine. TiBU is one of THE most used apps on Android phones and by users in here and if you're saying you searched and did not find an answer about this then I say you're full of it. Like I said, be thankful Entropy helped you out because more often than not he feels the same way about this kind of thing. Redundant threads clog up the forums and it is always better to post to an existing related thread than to start a new one. All members should keep that in mind before hitting the Submit button.

If you're on a stock ROM I believe superuser will be wiped. So, you'll have to re-root. If you're on a custom ROM and do a factory reset, root should remain intact.
All he has to do is really wipe and install the rom he was using. Just do as they said with titanium backup and you'll be fine.

Ya, I did a factory rest and my root ended up staying on the phone and I was able to restore everything and

All,
I have been loving the dev community for the EVO LTE. Flashing roms and trying new things out about once a week. However, everytime I wipe I have to put back all my home folders and icons where they were before I flashed. This process takes forever at times.
Is there an app that will back it up and restore it or are there a couple of files I can backup prior to flashing?
Thanks all!!
Have you been executing a nandroid via TWRP or another recovery, and a full Titanium Backup?

Titanium Backup rocks. I have been using that since the HTC Hero to back up all my apps but I didnt think it had an option for the home screen?
A nandroid backup would work but isnt that like taking an image of your device of a specific rom? If I jump between roms and\or upgrade to a new release of a rom and do a full wipe is there a way to get my home screen ... wallpaper, shortcuts folders etc back in order?
Ive tried MyBackup and it has an option for backing up the home screen but I assume that is for stock android or an older release of Sense. Every time I have tried restoring it never brings back my icons or wallpaper after a restore.
Historically I have never really had a need or want to backup the home screen but with this phone you can tweak and customize so much in regards to the home screens that its becoming a real nice to have.
For example I typically use the traffic widget, create a half dozen folders or more that houses specific types of apps (Utilites, Music, News, Podcasts, etc).
Hope this helps.... I feel like a n00b at the moment because I'm sure I am not the first person with this want or need.
I forget where i read this on here i didn't know it could be done so i tried it yesterday and it worked.
Do a Nan backup before you flash the new Rom, after you flash the rom stay in recovery and go to your Nan backup and just restore data uncheck everything else.
I did it going from flex rom to mean rom, been running all day with no issues

You can backup your screens in TB. It's written in green and listed as htc sense (desktop)
Wow after all that time using titanium never noticed that....guess that will work great until we get a new update from sprint that changes the version . Thanks everyone!!!!!!

You also have to backup Application Widgets, which is also highlighted in green. I basically backup all user apps, and all system apps that highlighted in green. Then when you flash, you can do a batch restore, reboot, and your homescreens should come back.

I received a message about a software update this morning. Foolishly, I downloaded the update without thinking. It's not that I was going to root or anything, I'm content at the moment.
When I tried using the dedicated camera button, it wouldn't work. Then an error report notification came up and I sent the error report. The camera button works sometimes. When I was taking pictures, I tried the rapid-fire picture taking and it didn't work and also gave me an error report, which I sent. The rapid-fire now works sometimes too. I'm not sure what's happening.
It seems like they changed Task Manager too. Now it shows Available and Total. Did it used to show Used and Available? I can't remember. The items listed are now in bold. If I end all the tasks, I usually get to around 400 MB available out of 1024 MB it says. What could be using up all this memory?
Have you guys run into anything with the update? I just wanted to have a discussion about it.
You may need to factory reset. If there were any glitches in the download, it will screw up your phone, like your camera, but a factory reset should fix it. I did the update last week then factory reset. My camera is functioning properly. I cannot speak on the task mgr as I don't really use it.

It will not delete pics in your gallery if they are saved on your SD card. I recommended My Backup Pro to save your apps. 3rd party messaging apps often have back up and restore functions or you can use SMS Backup to back texts up to your email.

I don't use Google Wallet, but I cleared all data from Settings.
I think I'm going to back up everything to a microSD card and whatever apps and then reset. I'll see if it fixes things for me. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Maybe I'll root after resetting. I'll look into that.
Regawmod has finally been updated and makes it all easier. I would still recommend unlocking the manual way because it requires extra steps that makes things a little easier to understand. Some people are getting stuck in loops and the only way to fix is to fastboot but since regawmod handles everything they don't have the adb tools package or how to use it
Did the factory reset fix your camera button issue?
I ordered a micro SD card and I'll backup my stuff when I get it. Everything is fine atm.

Hi,
I had not rooted or unlocked my phone. I decided to do it but that was after I took the update . Well I found out I cannot get s-off now. I was able to unlock and root with Regawmod. I had to manually put it into recovery a few times but it works great.
Okay, so I have restored all my apps, data, and text messages after the factory reset. It seems that Sense doesn't like remembering my Home settings. MyBackup Pro didn't backup Android Home perfectly so I redid my Home screen. I have apps arranged into groups and I removed all the other panels so that I only have one panel. When I restarted my phone, the other panels were still there and the groups of apps weren't there. I created my own Scene and restarted and it' been fine. I haven't gotten any error reports or anything.
Hi there. I have a couple of questions to ask about my GalaxyS3. GT-19300. Android version 4.1.1. Baseband version 19300BUDL12. Kernel version 3.0.31-256827.
Firstly after what seems like days & days of 'research' I finally plucked up the courage to root my phone, hoping to rid myself of all the bloatware. For a complete newbie like me it was quite daunting really but once I did it, it seemed fairly easy enough? I have installed Nobloat but have not yet used it as I have a few issues that I need resolving?
Anyway since rooting I have downloaded TitaniumBackup & hopefully backed up my files? It took me hours & hours to find out how/where to save it to my external sd card? I am still unsure if I've managed to back up absolutely everything ie; texts & so on? Here is my first question, I have tried to sync my backup to my dropbox but while its 'uploading' it suddenly stops & says stopped because of 'internal error'? What does this mean & why is it happening & what can I do about it?
My next question is since I've rooted my phone, it as gone very very slow, in everything it does, even in my messages it shows the number for 5seconds or so before it actually changes to the contacts name? Is there a reason why my phone is so slow?
My next question is, I think, maybe related. I have ZDbox installed & now when I go to clear/use task killer, my phone reboots? Is there e reason for this & have I done something wrong or am I missing something silly?
I know there are quite a few question here & I have looked & used the search button but I obviously can't see for looking & I have spent a large chunk of time researching/looking for answers?
Anyhow thank you for reading my many questions & hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? It is quite daunting messing with your expensive phone knowing thjat you could potentially 'brick' it!! :fingers-crossed:
Regards Jay
Can't answer all your questions but tb doesn't back up your texts. There are other apps that back up texts without needing root. It only backs up apps and app data. With regards to your dropbox sync, you might have put in the wrong login details? I used it for a while and it was fine.
As for the phone slowing down, try backing everything and do a complete wipe.

Thanks for the quick response:good:. I shall look into the apps that can backup/save texts. I never thought to look there to be honest!!
With regard to my Dropbox, I definitely have the correct log in details, like I say, it gets to about 30% uploaded then comes up with 'internal error'!?
Also would that be a factory reset when you mention complete wipe? Would I then need to download Titanium again to restore my phone to near enough what it is now?
Jay
Back up everything you can, put it safe somewhere else (external sd or pc). Go into recovery and do a full wipe (cache, data, dalvik cache) and reboot. You'll have to set everything up again (login details and etc), but seems like it's the only option afaik.

Sorry to bump this!! I think I know why my phone is so slow, looking through other threads it must be my JB update? (I hope?) So hopefully this will be sorted as soon as my other problem is resolved..... My missing photo? as per my other thread!!

I have only just plucked up the courage to root my phone!!!!! never mind 'flash a new rom' !!!!!!
I'm starting to go crazy with looking at all the various information for hours on end & seemingly getting nowhere & no closer to flashing a new rom?
Now then, funny thing is, my phone has mysteriously gone back to being fairly fast again?? Again I don't know what's happened to revert it back? So at least that's one of my problems sorted :good:
Oh & my other thread about my missing photo as been resolved, I had backed my phone up quite a while back & found it in some old files on an external hard drive, yipeee!!

Well, i'm at my witts end with 4.3. I'm having problems receiving text messages, wifi connection issues and batter drain problems that didnt exist until after i updated to 4.3 I have tried every possible solution i can find, and am having no luck resolving any of my issues.
I'm considering a factory reset. I am rooted, and am running titanium back-up. Since I have never done a factory reset, i thought i would check in with you guys and seek some advice and get the easiest most painless way to accomplish it.
Any advice is appreciated.

There is no magic to it, back up your apps and let it fly!
Yes, you can prepare a little more than that.
I personally use Apex launcher. If you use that or another that is not stock, you usually have the option of backing up your settings and desktops before you reset.
Also, if you like to keep your text messages, I like to use SMS Backup/restore.
Make SURE all of your contacts are saved to Google and not your device only.
when using Tibu..make sure you backup all of your user apps using batch "Back up all user apps"
Do NOT use the back up system data options.
You are assured to have issues when restoring.

I've done a factory reset on my S4 with Hyperdrive, and the result was a fresh rooted phone with my custom ROM. I suspect you will have a similar experience and not need to re-root and/or install your ROM again. Google should remember what apps you had installed and ask you if you want to restore them, but if you have anything important saved in the apps you will want to restore them from a backup made with Titanium (or a similar app). Good luck.
