[Q] Internet Passthrough - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thinking of saving Data at work and we haven't got WiFi - IIRC the S2 didn't have IP - can't find it on the SGS3 either?

[Q] Auto connect to VPN

Heya,
is it possible to establish a pre-defined VPN connection every time my phone connects to an (unencrypted) WiFi before any other data gets transmitted?
I'm using: Samsung Galaxy S I9000 2.2.1 DocRom XWSJ8 9.9.5
Thanks,
bootsy
There are things like killswitches that presumably do what need.

[Q] Wifi and 4g at same time?

I would like to be able to connect my phone to my galaxy 10.1 tablet (not to internet share) over wifi to enable me to use lazydroid's application to remotely view the phone screen on the tablet. I DO NOT want to share the internet to the tablet but want to maintain internet connection on the phone only.
I was thinking that this could be doable by setting up an ad hoc connection on the thunderbolt thereby allowing my tablet to connect to it but can't seem to get this to work while keeping the 3g/4g data network active. Does anyone have any help or suggestions?
Thanks!

[Q] Using tether *without* internet connection for file transfer

For use on locations without internet connection (e.g. on holiday) I want to be able to transfer files over Wifi from / to my Galaxy and a tablet (an iPad in my case).
On an iPad, Bluetooth is no optopn as file transfer is not supported.
Normally I can enable Wifi tethering on my Galaxy and then connect any device to the Galaxy without using an internet connection.
But the tethering requires a mobile internet connection. Is there a way to work around this a sort of 'connection mock' which fakes a mobile APN to enable internetless Wifi connection ?
Just like a home router which s not connected to the ADSL / cable modem.
UPDATE: it worked!!
I tried by disabling the packet data
Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile networks -> Packetdata -> UNcheck
Then I enabled Wifi tethering and could then connect my Mac to the Galaxy over Wifi so this is a good idea for using on holiday or other places where no internet is available but one wants to transfer data between devices.

[Q] Getting Internet from my DsL Laptop to my Android Devices

Hey guys,
I am currently really desperately looking for a way to get Internet from my DSL-enabled Notebook to my Galaxy S2 and my Asus TF700T Tablet. I am in Finnland on a hotel so I don't have 3g here.
So the facts:
My Laptop has a Wifi Bigfoot Wirless n 1103 network card without Bluetooth.
First I tried to do is setting up a Virtual Wireless Hotspot which kind of worked, but only for a few moments. Got a connection on both devices but then the Hotspot somehow disappeared. Don't know why. Maybe it is due to the Network Card, which is built for good gaming performance over Wifi.
Anyone an idea whats wrong with my Virtual Wifi Hotspot?
Next thing I tried is to set up an Ad Hoc- Wifinetwork over the PC which kind of worked, but both Android devices can't see ad hoc networks and there seemed to be no working wpa_supplicant for jellybean. Both Android devices are on PAranoidAndroid 2.99 by the way and the Laptop is on Win 7.
Does anyone know a way to enable this to see Ad Hoc Wifi networks?
So next thing I tried is Tethering over USB with Android Reverse Tethering which worked for the Tablet but not for the Galaxy S2 for a reason I dont know.
So does anyone know, why it does not work on the S2?
Next I tried setting up a Wifi Hotspot on the Tablet with the app Wifi Tether which kind of worked, but unfortunately this is an ad hoc network which again my Galaxy S2 can't see.
Does anyone know an app that creates an infrasturctured Wifi Hotspot instead of ad hoc?
Then I tried setting up Bluetooth Tethering from Tablet to GS2 which I didn't got to work (Connection established but don't know how to get the Internet working then.
Anyone got an idea about this?
Anything else I could try?
I really didn't believe that this is so hard to do
