So can I.
Seriously though, what do you think? Do you think you can install Siyah in that rom?
No one answer him...let's see if he can figure this one out from reading.
Ooh let me grab my popcorn for that one

The Kernell is developed or adapted to work with the ROM's second version of its origin or android. Some kernels will work with AOSP ROM and its derivatives with other ROM's and other AOSPK with ROMS based Stock.
I think my ROM is based on the 9100 stock ported to i777. Siyah kernel will not run on it.
Thank you for your attention there and sorry for the trivial question I did know the answers are on the internet but often do not have time to keep searching. So we enlisted the help of more experienced.

White Knight time.
That kernel works for both AOSP and Sammy(TouchWiz) based roms.
The rom you are trying to install it on is one made for the i777. Yes the base is from the GT-9100 but the developer has made it for our phones.

Normally on the first page of a rom thread you will get a description what is the rom. For example MIUI is well MIUI. Hyperdroid is sammy deodex rom with of course modifications and tweaks in the build to make it better than stock.
Sensation rom is sammy deodex no aosp nothing like that. And when you normally look for an AOSP rom it normally would say it in the heading of the thread anyway.
On the kernel thread it has a guide of what roms the kernel works on and which ones it does not. Siyah works basically with any rom. CM7 to AOSP to sammy deodex. Regarding Simone's kernel which is the NEAK version or something like that it is based on only sammy stock deodex roms and that is mainly the ones in original development and android..just look out for deodex, sammy and stock rom
AS above its all a question of reading the info on the first page of the kernel post .
Plus if it does not work flash another one .
the Neak kernel should be ok been on mine for a few days .
Speedmod likewise ok have used it before .

Thanks everyone for their wonderful help!
I have got one last question
Speedmod kernel says "it is only for Samsung Gingerbread ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or MIUI ROMS!"
does this means it will not work with sensation rom?
Edit: ok looks like the different versions are just the updated ones
But still the question is if it supports sensation rom?

Now, if you look at the VERY FIRST page for SensatioN ROM,, it says:
SensatioN ROM Features:
-Based on Samsung Firmware XWKK5 Android 2.3.6
With all of this information, you should be able to deduce that the Speedmod kernel WILL work with your ROM. If you still don't understand, I'm going to suggest you don't flash anything to your phone, for fear of ending up with a paperweight.
Ok this time I understand everything
I didn't knew that Sammy roms means that the ROM is based on Samsung's stock ROM
Also I thought that speedmod only works on stock ROM so all this things got me confused
But anyways now its all clear

Sammy is short for Samsung.
Its probably a noob question but i really need an answer. Ive seen in many roms the based on cm7 or something else. When telling that a rom is based on something, do we mean that the rom will just have the graphics of the cm7 in my example, kernel parts or what? I hope my question was clear enough.
When a Rom is based on say another Rom such as cm7, or when its based on an HTC ruu for example, it means that the dev has constructed his Rom using another Rom/firmware. It is usually the same kernel, and the possibilities of how the Rom is similar to the base is different depending on what the developer wants with his Rom.
I'll give you a clear example. A MIUI Rom requires an aosp base.

What it usually means is, someone took CM7 (or whatever rom) and pushed and pulled files to make it their own. And then shares what he has done with the community. More often than not, it is CM7 with custom tweaks, new launcher, couple apps, scripts baked in. In my HUMBLE opinion these aren't consider ROM's to me. They are simply modified versions of someone else's ROM's.
Yet there are still people who take ROM's and completely rewrite them. Those would be based originally off other ROM's but actually made a totally different ROM.
Everything cleared out in my head, thanks

thank you for the guide!Im new to android & Im a bigginer!
so I red this carefully.now what should i do?
search bro..search..
I have no signature
kernel can be flashed separately. you can find siyah kernels in develpoer's site on this address:
gokhanmoral.com
or just find his topic in galaxy s II developpement section.
just notice that recent siyah kernels are meant for ICS. DO NOT flash theme on ginger bread.
2- there are many ICS ROMs here for SII. now most of them are extremely stable and bug free. samsung-based (or as it name stock-based) ROM are finalized, but CM9 is still in nightly. so there is a little chance for some bugs. and also there is AOKP ROMs, which has a better theming/customizing option and better theme support.
I myself am a loyal user of wanamlite ROMs. they are based on Stock ROMs, but they are smoother, more battery friendly and Deodexed. plus many other tweaks I can't remember. Oh, and they come with a ICS themed. very beautifull!!!
You can make your ROM even more beautiful by using "ICS Domination theme by Master Vertumus"
thank you for the guide!
but does the domintion work on sgs2running 2.3.5 stock and siyah kernel?
how can i install?!?!?!??
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the i9100 part of the forum. My current phone is the skyrocket, but my gf has the i9100. On the skyrocket side, things seem to be different from the 9100.
I have read it somewhere that the kernel and recovery are linked together. I realized that there are couple of main kernels in the forum: siyahKernel, Shun, DarkKnight and Dorimanx. Some have Touch recovery included and some don't. If I were to do the recovery by myself, which is the best one out there? On Skyrocket, there are TWRP and CWM touch. I'm not sure if there are other things or newest version on this end and which is more recommended.
Any input would be great.
THANKS!

Hey there, welcome to the I9100 side of things
As far as I know, and for my entire experience of using the Galaxy S II, yeah, the kernel and the recovery are linked. There very well could be ways to flash a recovery independent of your kernel, but I advise against it. Especially because of lot of recoveries are customized to suit the kernel they come with, and have additional features/layouts suited to it.
Personally, up until a few days ago I was using SiyahKernel and if you're looking for, more than anything, a stable, fast, and smooth kernel with a multitude of features, you can't go wrong with gokhanmoral's work. Other than that, I've been trying out N.E.A.K. ICS and Fluxi ICS lately, so I can't give you any input on the others you listed. However, I know for a fact that SiyahKernel, N.E.A.K. and Fluxi all come with modified CWM-touch.
Hope I've answered your questions?

Thanks for the response. It helped a lot. One more basic question if it's okay.
On the Skyrocket side, flashing a new ROM will replace whatever kernel that's currently on the ROM, how about the i9100? Do I have to flash the kernel each time after flashing a different ROM?

Not a problem
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly the same here. For example, each day or two I flash a new nightly build of CyanogenMod 9, and when I do I immediately flash SiyahKernel/<whatever kernel I'm using> afterwards, otherwise it'll revert back to whatever's bundled with CM9.

Generally.
ROMs tend to have kernels packaged within them. (I've yet to see a ROM that DOESN'T have a kernel packaged...)
So if you want a different kernel than what comes in the ROM, you'll have to flash the desired kernel after you flash the ROM.
EDIT to add: screamworks, I promise I'm not following you around.

will this version of siyah kernel work with viking or pretty much any sammy rom????[ i'm only a month old with android so still a noob] really wanted a better opinion as messinh up kernel definitely leads to bricking !!!!
If you possessed the ability to read, look around and search, you'd notice by now that Siyah Kernel 1.6X supports only stock JB builds and unless I'm heavily mistaken (which I rarely am), VikingROM is indeed based on stock JB which means Siyah Kernel 1.6RC will work. Although, since it's an RC, do not expect it to be rock solid.
