[Q] Help understanding FTF files please! - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello....i'm new to my xperia s, i've managed to unlock the bootloader, and im rooted and have recovery using doomkernel. I don't fully understand about FTF files. I cannot find much info about them. I'm currently on 67 but i see firmware numbers 73 and 76 from different countries. Whats the difference? If i flash one of these firmwares, can i get back to 67? Are these firmwares country specific, or are they suitable for everyone worldwide? I noticed some ROMS require use of different firmwares, thus i'm still on stock till i fully understand. I've seen flashtool about, so i imagine this is for flashing firmwares? After flashing a firmware, do i have to flash a pre rooted system image, or do i just flash a new ROM? How would i get back to stock....is there an RUU or SBF etc... Any advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks.

1. Use the search function and google
2. .ftf = FLASH TOOL FILE
3. You can flash any generic you like, people generally recommend Netherlands(NL) or Singapore(SG). You can flash back to 67 at any point to get updates as normal.
4. With bootloader unlocked you can also flash prerooted images/roms(dont bother with these till ICS).

Official stock roms are packed in FTF format files so it can be flashed by flashtools.
You can flash any firmware even for different regions, each one has different apps preinstalled.
Preroot img files are for rooting your phone.
Doom kernels has root and recovery inside.

[sk17i] .377 is updated to, but SEUS keeps popping out for update requirement.

Hi everyone,
I have been playing with my Mini Pro for like 2 months
I know how to use Fastboot/flashtool to flash an unsecured Boot.img and how to unlock bootloader.
I have updated my Mini Pro to .377 firmware and then rooted it with Superoneclick
However I have used a unsecure Boot.img from .368 Firmware in order to root the phone,
So now my phone is with a rooted 377 Software with a 368 Boot.img,
the problem is, system keeps popping out to remind me updating to 377 Version (which I HAVE DONE obviously). in About Phone, it does show im on 377 version.
I just wonder if anyone can provide me a Boot.img from 377 (Stock or Unsecure, doesnt matter)
PS: I have have flashed the 377 Boot.img afterwards, would my data/apps be intact, do i need to set everything again?
Another question is, would anyone mind to teach me how to lock the bootloader again after rooting so that i can use SEUS?
Many thanks again and very best wishes to everyone.
(sorry for my poor english, Eng is not my first language)
Flashing the boot.img extracted from the new firmware with fastboot is recommended. this will not delete the data. For re-locking the phone, check this link:

Stock ICS for XU

In my region (PK) ICS is still not released and don't know how long it will take so I am thinking to get a stock ICS rom and manually flash it so any links, docs, suggestion will be appreciated.
Hey man,
First, download the following files :
1) 6.1.1.B.1.54 FTF
2) Flashtool
Then, after installing Flashtool, copy the FTF to the firmware folder inside Flashtool install directory
After that, run Flashtool and select the Flash button (Select Flashmode)
Select the firmware, and you can select the options on right side. If you've got a ST25a,then tick the "Ignore Baseband" option because that firmware is for ST25i.
Then, it will say Connect Phone. Turn off your phone & wait 5 - 10 s.
Then, holding down the VOLUME DOWN (not Back Key) Key, connect the USB cable and wait for it to flash
Then, just wait for the Flashtool to finish its job
Thanks Min3r I will try it, seems straight forward to me, just to confirm that it do not require boot loader unlocking and rooting as it is an official firmware!
Nope Bootloader unlocking is required only for flashing non-stock Kernels. So, Custom ROMs,Rooting and alot more are possible provided its based on a stock kernel
Thanks. Let me try it now.
How can I revert back to 2.3.7 if I face issues with ICS?
Just get the GB ftf and flash it using Flashtool. Simple as that. But I doubt you'd face any cause everyone here's been using it fine
Thanks, do you have any link for stock GB same as you refered me for ICS?
My only concern is broken tethering which I am not using so far
Apparently its an issue with .54 roms.. I think it works fine in .10 though
Try this out for GB GB India
Yep seems like it works in .10 but do you know what advantages .54 has over .10?
Thanks for GB link but its .184, is there .188 ftf available?
Check this thread out : B.1.54 All details available there
and .188, try searching this forum.. It would be here somewhere dude..
I'm trying to flash the ICS ftf file, but I always get the missing drivers error.
I installed the drivers with the flashtool-drivers app (flashtool, fastboot and XP Sola/U/P drivers).
What can I do ? Please help, I'm tired of GB.
// looks like restarting the computer solved the problem. It's flashing as I type.

Xperia Z2 D6502 Rom Questions?

Hello friends
I need to find important information about the Xperia Z2 D6502!
D6502 not support LTE! But other models are support.
1--Does LTE support software or hardware?
2--D6503 ROMS (23.0.1.A.3.9,France - Orange - etc. OR 23.0.1.A.0.167,Canada/USA,France,Germany etc. ) upload to D6502??? Is this happens?
3--And does LTE work?
OR
LTE support is not work. Let's say D6503 is working ROMs on D6502.
4--An advantage or good changes on d6502???If everything would be the same?
LAST
5--When installing this ROM on FlashTool,Is there a possibility of deleting IMEI?
6--And OTA update income ?
7--Can we, when we want to install the original version d6502 (To avoid problems with warranty service)
Very Thanks. English'm less. gtranslate
backup your original rom and after that try to flash d6503 roms to your d6502. I think the rom should work but 4g will not work. and this can't change the imei. I think that the only difference is the 4g. I have a d6503 so I can't try it but good luck

thanks. for rom backup
ı dont have root! Can I do any other way? or back up my data and download the d6502 mena ftf.flashing and upload data?
For rooting you need to downgrade to 4.4.2 and than root using toolkit, than you can backup your TA partition just in case you want to unlock your bootloader later and lose your DRM keys. D6503 ROM can be flash in D6502 but the network functions like calling and texting wont work, you need to flash D6502 modem for that, most of the ROMs will already have that as a separate flashable ZIP, search in the respective ROM thread. After flashing the ROM you might get update notification but you wont be able to install them as many of the system files will be modified so for getting official update you will need to flash back stock FTF with flashtool which will remove all your data, and if you had unlocked you bootloader you will have restore you DRM keys also after flashing stock ftf. for backing up data without root try helium app. works for me.

No, no prblm, just follow the method given in the forum thread, flash only the ftf for your model and not any other, bootloader wont be affected by flashtool until you intentionally unlock it.

Depends on what ROM you want to flash, there are different ones available in the forum, some AOSP or CM based which will require unlocked BL, or stock bases, like existenz or Moonwalker which are stock based and dont require unlocked BL. but i would suggest you hold on for now as there are some news about Lollipop being release in next few weeks and you will need to flash stock ROM again for updating to Lollipop. or you can later wait for someone to make a lollipop ROM later and get done with the rooting process now itself. also to download ftfs i would suggest use xperifirm and create the ftf using flashtool, you might not find your specific regions ftf through flashtool, but i'm not entirely sure about that, you can try either.
Also please press thanks button if i helped

first backup your data (you know how to do it?) and then backup your rom with this method:
3. how to backup your original firmware customization
a) if you do not want to lose warranty of your phone, first thing you have to do is to backup your original customization
b) download Sony PC Companion and connect your phone
c) select update your phone in Sony PC Companion
d) application will prompt you to disconnect your phone before starting downloading firmware, just make it (remember - dont disconnect your phone when update just start...)
e) after finish downloading firmware cancel the update
F) after that, go to C:\ProgramData\Sony Mobile\Update Engine\db\some number\blob_fs, there you find 3 (maybe 4) files, which names start FILE
g) download and install latest Flashtool
h) paste the three files, which names start FILE, from blob_fs folder to folder „Firmware“ included in the XPERIA Flashtool
i) open the Flashtool, click on Tools, then click on Bundles, choose decrypt files and put all three files from blob_fs folder to the right columm
j) click ok and after approx. one minute a pop up Window will appear via Flashtool
k) mark all files except simlock.ta and transfer them to the right column, than fill in a box in the right upper corner (fill in what you want, it is just for you)
l) now click ok and Flashtool will create backup of your original firmware customization, that you can anytime flash to your phone

[Q] FlashTool and Custom Recoveries

Hi guys,
I'm running a different boot.img that was flashed from command line to get CWM, which I used to install Paranoid Android and rom-hop to things like CM11. It's been great having a familiar interface when going between AOSP ROMs, but I'd like to return to stock.
So far, it looks like the main method is to use FlashTool and the various FTFs for Sony ROMs. How does FlashTool behave on devices like mine (unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, AOSP ROM)? Is it safe to use in this situation? What will become of my boot.img if FlashTool is successful?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This seems like a fairly basic questions. Have you read about flashtool in their thread? Or searched?
How does it behave? Quite well. Flashtool has nice manners(not sure what your expecting here)
Is it safe? Yes
What happens to boot image? This is a bit complicated. I'd you check the box that says exclude kernel then nothing but if you don't check the box it does it flashes a stock boot.img
Why don't you just flash a stock zip in recovery? It's a lot easer, no need for computer.
Thanks for the response. I was mostly asking this because no matter where I look, stock firmware seems to only come in FTF and I'm not familiar with handling that particular file type. Seems impossible to find an up-to-date site that carries them in ZIP, and I'd been meaning to give FlashTool a try at some point anyway, was just wondering if there were any dangers involved with it when flashing back to stock.

If I wanted just to get back to stock sony, I'd just flash something like this in recovery ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2929402)
If i wanted to get back to 100% stock to debug an issue, if flash the ftf file.

Confused on MODEM and BOOTLOADERS vs ROMS

On some ROMS I noticed that they require certain bootloaders and modems and they need to be flashed by ODIN while others do not. I am confused as to why that is, i thought flashing a ROM via a custom recovery like TWRP would handle that for you.
At the moment, I am on Vision X's 5.0 lollipop ROM, and I want to get onto stock 5.1.1. So far I'm reading this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../compilation-s5-g900t-stock-firmware-t3042400
It looks like i need to flash 3 things, bootloader, modem and the rom via ODIN.
I am unclear as to where modems, bootloaders and roms go on ODIN. aka, what is BL, AP, CP, and CSC
I also plan on maybe trying out a CM ROM like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-ressurrection-remix-mm-t3275340
From what I'm reading there the t-mobile samsung galaxy s5 is KLTE? So thats the version I would download, and then flash through a custom recovery?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, I am somewhat new to this device, and all the ROM posts I see seem to expect a level of understanding I don't have yet. Please go easy on me

Hello,
Some custom roms are made to load after the base rom has been loaded. I assume this is because the developers use the base architecture to build the rom on. Also some custom roms dont include bootloaders and modems.
Furthermore twrp as of lately may have issues flashing modems and bootloaders that are included in roms, and this is why odin could be used to flash bootloaders and modems. Also when flashing a bootloader you might need to completely power down the device then power up into download mode. failure to do so could result in the flash not taking. Bootloader files would go into the BL slot while the rom would go into the ap slot. You should always check you current version after flashing to confirm that the flash actually took. you could do so with the samsung info app in the play store. I would also check that your Odin is up to date if your going to 5.1.1. Hope this helps a little.

I see. So bootloaders -> BL, roms -> AP, but what slot to modems go? Also, should I flash all three at once, or is it better to do each one at a time?
Thanks for your help!

you can grab the stuff you need here if your looking for the OJ4 stock rooted rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...o-update-to-g900tof6-5-1-1-pc-t3141404/page36
That modem file worked when loaded into the ap slot.
An alternitive would be to grab the full rom thats for odin. If you odin the full rom(1 file) then it should update the boot loader and modem. you would then be on a stock unrooted rom and would have to root the device yourself if you wanted root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../compilation-s5-g900t-stock-firmware-t3042400
I used the app (*Phone INFO ★Samsung★) to chek all 3 and make sure there correct. it will tell you under the FIRMWARE info tab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64154819&postcount=361
OR if your already rooted, you can simply follow the FlashFire method in the 1st link on page one as this claims to have better results for roms that include modems. If not then you odin them in afterwords with the files in the above 1st link. again thats if you want to go with OJ4 (newest as of this post).
