Wanna play some games with a Wii Remote on your Rezound?
A lot of you were wanting to connect a Wii Remote to your Rezound (myself included) and several were annoyed and rather upset to find that Sense UI just doesn't do the job. Sense masks the necessary drivers. Well I have good news, but it's obviously not going to work with every ROM. Needless to say, it'll take some playing with. If you have a Sense based ROM, you'll probably have a harder time; though, the ROM I am using is not completely Senseless, so who knows... you may luck up!
What I am using:
CleanROM Developer Edition 1.4
3.13xx Kernel from the same developer and post.
ICS Firmware (Not sure if this will matter or not.)
It took some playing with, but I finally got my Wii controller to connect. Here's what you do. Go to the links below.
First:
Here
Second:
Here
You can get it from the market, but you have to have the second link in order for the Wii driver to be recognized by the program.
Before going into the program... let me save you some time. Go into a text field in a program, type "0000" and copy that text. You'll use this later.
Once you have these installed, it gets tricky.
1) Do NOT turn on bluetooth first... open the program and let the program start bluetooth using the check box.
2) Once BT is turned on, tap "Select IME", Select "Bluez IME"
3) Tap "Select Device"
4)Scan. Press 1 + 2 buttons simultaneously on the controller. The address for your controller should show up. Tap on it.
It will now ask you to confirm pairing with bluetooth device, open that dialog box. While the dialog box for accepting the bluetooth device is up, paste the text you copied earlier into the text field and hit "OK." (The controller may stop pairing, and the dialog box may go away, don't panic.) By default, the PIN is 0000. If you can type it, do so. If not, it'll probably still work (I didn't actually have to type it in, it just started working. )
Okay, now that you have it semi-paired, you'll only tap on "Select IME" from now on. When you tap it and select a different input method, it will automatically turn bluetooth off. Likewise, when you tap "Select IME" and select "Bluez IME," it will turn bluetooth on and display "Connecting to XX.XX.XX.XX" (<-- your Wii remotes address here). At this point, simply press 1 + 2 and it should display connected. To test if it's working, simply scroll through the menu using the d-pad. That's it!
This is my first walkthrough and I apologize if it's hard to understand! It goes without saying that I am not responsible for what you do to your phone. But it should all go smoothly!
Let us all know if you have come up with any better solutions and I'll update accordingly! Enjoy guys!
Here is a video as proof to the nay-sayers!
Wii Remote with HTC Rezound
Will give this a try. Does this support only the main remote or does the attachment with the analog stuck work also?

I have 2 Wii remotes, one is original Nintendo, the other is after market. I got both of them to work. I have not tried the nun-chuck with it, but I know some of the emulators have an option for it. I'm assuming the nun-chuck works with other phones using this program, so I don't see how it wouldn't work. I'll probably try that out tomorrow.
Edit: The nun-chuck does in fact work with it. I plugged mine up before pairing, and it had no effect on pairing. Works great with Mario 3!
thanks for the write up. i have a freind thats been tyring to get this to work with no luck. i am going to give this a shot myself

I don't know all the changes they made with the firmware update, but I would assume that bluetooth was one of the changes made. I say that because before the firmware leak, devs were having issues getting BT to work with the ICS Roms. So, that being said, this may only be possible with the firmware update. Keep in mind, however, that I had to play with it quite a bit to get it to work. It was totally worth it though, I was playing Supe Mario 64 on my phone with the nun-chuck and all. Flawless performance!

I'm using ICS now, but I see what you're saying. When we get the official ICS ota, the devs are going to start pushing out truly senseless roms and they will likely have no problem doing this (because of the ics kernel.) Fully ASOP roms can supposedly do this natively.

I just read that a GingerBread ROM was leaked to the Galaxy S 4G. I also know that the Vibrant has slightly different GPS hardware than the other Galaxy S series phones, which is why Captivate ROMs had functional GPS long before the Vibrant.
However, if the Galaxy S 4G has the same GPS as the Vibrant, this could save the developers a lot of time and headache if they just rip off the drivers and lib files from this new leaked ROM. See this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125747

Yep. It will be soon when GPS will work on 2.3 base.
I haven't been asleep, I just didn't realize that the GPS fix they were working on came from the Galaxy S 4G leak. I just found out about that leak today, and figured I'd try and make someones' life easier. I, too, went with the Gingerbread Blitzkrieg today. Had to do the full smash since I was coming from a 2.2 ROM. Unfortunately, it seems to have killed my entire ability to do ADB. USB Debugging is activated, but plugging it into my computer doesn't allow me to "see" my phone, despite multiple reboots of both devices.
So far, everything is fine, but it keeps me from being able to use either ODIN or HEIMDALL.
I feel really vulnerable without these safety nets. I'd love to try again by flashing my Backup Restore in CWM, but I can't find anything that says whether or not that's safe when you have GB bootloaders and a GB Kernel...
*sigh* More Research.
Are you sure your computer can't see the phone when its in download mode? I would give it a shot.
Also a nandroid restore should work fine, but you'll have to flash a froyo kernel before or after the restore.
Got it...

Yes, it wouldn't see it at all. Finally got it to work after about the 10 reboot. My computer finally did the whole installing Samsung Device Drivers (as if it hadn't done that 50 times). Probably just my computer, which is not entirely what I wish for...
Anyway, I'm going back because I need to have control of my camera, even at the end of the battery. I use it for tutoring, and I need to know I can use it until the very end.
Something will be worked out soon, though, I'm sure.
Thanks for the responses and the care, guys. You're all that makes XDA such a wonderful resource.

I was reading this article http://bit.ly/o1fK41 and this user was able to play games on his phone with his PS3 controller.
I downloaded the Sixaxis Compatibility Checker to see if the Rezound was compatible or not. I tried a few times, doesn't seem the Rezound is one of them, maybe I did something wrong, but I don't think I did. I'm thinking it has something to do with Sense? Hopefully once we have a working ICS ROM, I can try this particular app again.
Until then I was wondering if anyone knows of an alternative application or way around this? I was going to try and do with my Kindle Fire, but I forgot my KF doesn't have BT. I've downloaded a bunch of PSX games, would love to play them.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!
I second that, can't wait to use my ps3 controller with modern combat 3....I used to use my ps3 controller with my Evo, I'm guessing it only works with AOSP Roms?

Important - Due to the non-standard protocol that the controllers use to communicate with the host, this application requires root access. Additionally, it is incompatible with most HTC devices and some newer Samsung devices. This is due to the required bluetooth protocol not being implemented on these devices. We are actively looking into a work around, but currently the only solution is to install a custom firmware, such as Cyanogenmod, that supports the required protocols.

I used this all the time on my Bionic for SNES ROMs and it is one of the main reasons I am waiting for an AOSP ROM. As for other solutions, I haven't found any yet.
It looks like ics is the only way to get it to work on the rezzy. Hopefully it isn't to much longer until we see 4.0.3.

Nah, doesn't seem to work with ICS... well the ICS RC with cleanROM at least. I just tried today.
It's probably the same reason why Wii controller stuff doesn't work on Sense ROMs. I'm not even going to pretend like I fully understand it, but the tl;dr version is that Sense doesn't have a bluetooth stack that is compatible with the controllers, but AOSP does. And no, there's not a way to get it to work with Sense at this point in time.
It has to set up when compiling the kernel.

It has to do with the bluetooth stack that HTC chose to insert in their ROM vs the bluetooth stack that comes with AOSP Android. We had the same problem on the Galaxy S. Samsung used a different bluetooth stack in their touchwiz UI. Until HTC and Samsung use a bluetooth stack that has the right protocol it wont work.
Has nothing to do with the kernel.

It is not JUST the bluetooth stack, if it were, you could just replace the bluetooth stack from AOSP into a rom that it doesnt work in (sense, touchwiz), but it does not work. Sense itself disables many of the protocols for non-standard bluetooth types, why ill never know. They fixed it on i believe the sensation or something by making a custom kernel and now they can use the Wii remote in sense. Its nowhere simple in anyway. Of course, if we had AOSP, it would work out of the box and no hassle involved.
I have no qualms about doing it, but I'm unsure. Is it worth it?

My understanding is that the ICS roms out there are mostly based off of a shaky HTC leak or two.. If you try one, I'd suggest Scott's (CleanROM/Senseless) as he's a constant presence in his release threads. I've been using his GB CleanROM builds and they've been flawless. Whichever way you go, be sure to follow every instruction to a tee...you won't brick, but one missed sentence can cause a mess of frustration
Asking whether our not to root, and then jumping head-first into ICS seems like a bad idea. The mainver issues inherent with all the different leaks can cause some real headaches for inexperienced rooters.
I would suggest sticking with GB for now until you learn a bit more about the process on this device. S-on while unlocked means you have to know exactly what you're flashing if you aren't gonna have adb access all day.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
I agree on not going straight to ICS at this time.
I have tried all the ICS ROMs just to see what they are all about, but they all have bugs and certain apps are not compatible ICS yet.
I always end up going back to the setup in my sig which I absolutely love. That is partly because neither of my two favorite themes work in ICS, but even if they did I would still wait for it to mature a little more before swapping back to it.
No problems here with ICS
Although you might want to try some gingerbread roms at first, Many of the non ASOP ICS roms are very stable. As for the mainver issue, just flash the kernel via flastboot and you should be fine. if you need help with anything just let me know. For your first rom i would recommend cleanrom or rezrom.
Even if you don't want to install different ROMS (but why wouldn't you) gaining root gives you so much more freedom on your device, from changing boot animations, to doing backups.
I recommend you unlock and root. I have run both SenselessROM ICS and CleanROM ICS and they both work great and perform better than GB, at least according to AnTuTu Benchmark. I currently use Scott's CleanROM 2.2 ICS. It is fast and very stable. Only bug I have with it is no streaming media thru bluetooth.

why wouldnt it be a "feature"? why would anyone want to use the bluetooth with the usb cable poking out the back? not to mention the ear piece would likely just fall out of your ear if it was plugged in hehe..
to the OP, if your phone is working 100% to your liking, and you in no way feel its imperfect, then no, dont root.
if its say... 99% to your liking.. root it and get your 1% back!
cheers
Hmm if this is your first time rooting
I had two thunderbolt (mine and my gfs), one samsung charge , and the xoom tablet and couple of old iphones. So i went through many roots, jailbreaking etc..
I gotta say, hands down, the rezound is the trickiest, however, far form impossible due to the amazing devs support.
You really need to start with a simple phone that has s-off (like my loyal tbolt). after you get the complete gist of rooting, you have to back to school to understand the difference between unlocked bootloader and s-off.
Just to get the ota update, i spent close to one week just reading endless forums and user reports. When i did it, it worked flawlessly, but i still have a residual migraine from the amount of info i had to really understand.
of course now that i accomplished it, it seems like cake, which make me get to the next point; just because someone says its easy, it doesent mean it is.
Point is, if your a noob(i, in no way, want to insult you, just watching out for you), find a nice person on this forum that accomplished this and Pm them every step of the way. This community has matured and developed to fight against one enemy, the big red, and all their ways trying to hinder us from getting 100 % of our money.
Bottom line: If this is your first root, or if this is your first s-on unlocked bootloader root, spend at least 2 weeks to understand EVERYTHING you need to do, but without a doubt, you will only unlock this beast's potential when you root and unlock it, only then will you see why developers are jumping ship as well as old g-nex users to this phone
I can vouch for reading again and again what you are planning to do. I wanted to update my firmware for the radios and I read for almost a week on how to accomplish this. The sheer volume of topics on that one subject is amazing.
Bottom line, search, read, search some more, and when you think you done, search at least two more times.

BFD what antutu says, that means absolutely nothing.
I have seen absolutely zero real world performance difference between my current setup & ICS. That, some app/theme incompatibility & the BT streaming issue (I use BT in my car every day) are plenty to keep me on GB for now.

yea sorry, like I said, this isn't the newest version...apparently all the developers stopped developing this for ICS, and you need to newest version to edit the teams I think

I'm on venom right now and it has the option of waking with the volume keys
bah...I've actually never flashed a rom before on any phone. I usually like stock for the most part...there's just usually a few things I want to tweak with mods or apps
the 3-button re-map mod alone has made this phone so much better lol
but it seems I can't find a way to wake w/ volume on this
2.0 has no function to my phone. No connection. Where to find old FW 1.5?? To download, please! Thanks1

Also searching for
Old AW 1.5 was better looking, faster and had better battery management.
Wonder if I reset to factory settings will bring me back to the original 1.5.
To my ZW2 with Wear20 no google Account - sync is possible. Hardware reset to phone und watch no effect.
idk what u guys are doing. running aw2.0 perfectly fine no issues. battery is also better. and no eye cancer white ui anymore.
1.5 was better lol. that was a good one
if u insist u can flash this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenwatch-2/general/dump-zenwatch-2-sparrow-wi501q-build-t3601596 but be aware that u still might need to take the update some day.
Yeah, I tend to agree. I have been very pleased so far with 2.0. My battery life hasn't really changed at all, the local apps are, so far at least, much better, and I like the new notification system. Definitely worth the wait for me.
I guess this is one of those YMMV situations.
Once you get used to the fact that the button is now a significant part of the interface, it actually works a lot better than 1.5.
So far, I am really liking it. You can do so much more from the watch, and apps are much more capable. I use myradar pro, and the AW2 mini app is head and shoulders better.

Thanks I'm trying that tonight and will report back. I just don't like how things are displayed, and I do like the white UI better
The reason I need to go back is because I heavily use the card notifications that give who the notification is from right on the bottom of the watch. I can't seem to get that to work on 2.0 or to find a replacement.

^^^^^Thx for the info! Having major issues with the voice texting, keeps popping up with "to whom". I use this watch a lot in clinicals as we cant have our phones out. The new 2.0 update killed this smartwatch for me so I am going to try and rollback to AW 1.5.

You're awesome, worked great.
The reason I needed to go back, I use my watch to text while drive. Can't do that very well when I need to confirm every message I try to send.
Plus I used and need the peek cards in ambient mode for work. I only have time to glance at my watch while working.
Rollback?

So it finally started working a bit better? I am new to programming and rooting so I am a bit nervous jumping in, but I need a functional smartwatch!
