Hi
I bought an s3 today so I have my old stuff in my pc but I don't know how to mount the usb storage
Any idea

It's not possible to mount it as a usb mass storage device. The device only supports MTP and PTP. Please make sure that your computer supports those transfer protocols.

It is the same with stock Samsung on the i9100. Cannot mount the i9100 discs onto the PC to transfer files. Sucks.
I install another (non-Samsung) rom to make it work like CM.
Use Easy UMS.
Also, search next time.

My PC running windows7 mounts the Transformer Prime just fine and I can access its internal storage without Issue.
At work, we are forced to use Macs running OSX lion 10.72, however my Prime does not mount on the Mac's for some reason, and I cannot see the internal storage on the Mac's.
Did anyone else try mounting the TP internal storage on a Mac running 10.72?
Does it work for you? Does the prime use a standard EXT3 or NTFS partition?
Is it formatted in such a way that Mac's don't recognize or is something wrong?
The mac can however be accessed wirelessly by enabling SMB file sharing for windows.
File Manager HD now see's the mac just the same. I just can't seem to mount the TP storage with a physical connection to a MAC over usb... hmm
You need Android File Transfer installed on your Mac.

Thanks! - I will check this one out for sure-
so far, I have been using WiFi File Explorer pro v1.5x to transfer files wirelessly via HTTP and port 8000- and it has worked great...
I am planning to use wireless for most of my file transfers from PC's to the tablet, but I still mentally needed to know it works via USB hardwired.
Thanks for the tips!

I didn't know about this too! Thanks!
Still want to mount as drive...
I like the File Transfer Manager on OSX, but I'd still like to mount it as a drive so I can create image backups of the internal storage without buying another 32 GB SD card...
Thoughts?

you can't mount it as a drive as it uses MTP not USB mass storage
if i recall the the way ICS works is the internal storage is mounted as MTP however external storage such as microsd is mounted via USB Mass Storage...thats the reason that the GNex has no usb mass storage support and only mtp, since the gnex has no external memory slot.

Ah. Not familiar with MTP. I just got this thing. Android file transfer doesn't always stay connected. It freezes on me on my Mac sometimes. When I try to start over and just rewrite over files I copied, it will give me **** about not being able to copy a file and drop off. Doesn't seem reliable. Could be the tablet though.
MTP can only transfer one file at a time which is why many people don't like it, to only advantage it has is that it transfers files faster but I would much rather have the ability to transfer more than transfer slightly faster

I'm not sure this is possible, but could you use an FTP client to send files to the tablet like FileZilla? Would that be faster / more reliable on a local network connection?

It's possible. You would need to install an FTP server on your tablet. There appear to be a number available on the market.
I find myself using the S3 as a second computer at times. However, this way of using my phone is often interrupted since I can't use my phone during MTP file transfers. Is there a mod to solve this problem somehow?
Mounting the sd card as a usb mass storage device isn't really an option for me since this won't allow me access to the internal memory and also requires an additional step before I can use it. Also, during usb mass storage mode my phone wouldn't be able to access the "external" sd card.
So I basically want MTP, but without the MTP app taking over my phone. Is that possible?
Shameless bump after 2 days
Not possible

I'm trying to drag the files to the phone, but it won't transfer for some reason. I never had this problem before. I also own an s3 and it does the same thing. I downloaded the usb drivers too, still won't work.
What rom are you on? Try using airdroid.
You are using windows 7 file explorer?
Once you connect your phone did you select USB transfer? Or MTP?
Make sure its mounted as a mass storage device

You don't need to mount these phones as mass storage. You should be able to drag and drop using windows explorer in the default MTP mode.
@ptrle..... Were you ever able to drag and drop on the Note or your S3? Can you see your phone and internal sd card with windows explorer? Have you tried rebooting your phones and pc right before trying to transfer? Maybe a bad cable or try a different USB port. Don't go through a USB hub. Try installing the newest Samsung Kies to get the most updated drivers.
I have 4 computers and only one did I install samsung kies and the other 3 work in MTP mode without manually installing any drivers.
I ran into an odd issue..
In MTP the phone moved a season of Walking Dead in 2.5 minutes, as mass storage it said it would take 45 minutes..
So MTP transfers faster from my laptop to phone, but my ps3 says its "An unknown device" in MTP mode, so I have to switch to Mass Storage and all is well..
Probably won't help, but perhaps a route to investigate

Settings-more under wireless and network-usb utilities-connect storage to pc
Phone: galaxy S III T9999
rom: CM10 nightly's but it has done it with all other roms too
Problem: My phone is unable to connect as mtp device and only works with camera connect from usb options. And, the external Sdcard in my phone can't be seen from my PC.
What I want to do is see internal storage from my phone as an SD on my PC, and see my external sd from my phone as an SD on my pc.
I don't like this camera option thing, it only lets me have access to the dcim folder.
Please help!!!
Google search for samsung usb drivers..download and install latest version.....after installing...connect the phone...it will search and install drivers for the phone...after that..u can use mtp...
Hope it helps....

I can only get MTP to work on Windows 7, installed LG drivers, tried all USB modes.
How can I connect the device as simple external storage device?
BTW rooted and unlocked, The Base 0.7.3

i am on a Mac and could'nt get it either, but I used "Android File Transfer", It worked for Mac I think they have it for windows also.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think its possible with stock ROM, not even sure if current crop of custom ROMs supports it.
Yeah I'm pretty sure mtp is the only officially supported mode of transfer. Unless of course there's a third party app that does the trick, or if its a kernel thing.

Yes, USB Mass Storage is not supported on this device. The problem with USB mass storage is that you have to unmount sdcard in phone to allow mounting it on your PC.
Internal sdcard(/sdcard) on this device is actually located in /data partition (/data/media/0) and is emulated as /sdcard so it cannot be shared with PC using USB Mass Storage protocol.

Is it a problem to unmount and share the sdcard2(external as card)?

UMS 100% works on our phones just install any terminal emulator from the Google Play Store. I spent a long time with everyone not having a single clue.
SIMPLY TYPE THE BELOW TEXT IN TERMINAL EMULATOR AND YOUR GOLDEN... UMS works great but has some issues, though the issues are more with the phone than UMS. It also ONLY works on External MicroSD cards.
su
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage,adb
Just a nano bump from above edited post. It's works just fine with UMS. I found though MTP seemed to be the proper option. Because of the insanity partition configuration on this phone UMS just didn't suit too well with roms and what not.
