[Q] Use Flash to Assist Auto Focus? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My Epic 4G Touch would do alright of taking a picture in pretty dark conditions because it would fire the flash to auto focus and take a picture.
I know this is not how it works one the HTC One Series or the EVO LTE.
Is this something that maybe could be corrected by a software update? That is my only gripe so far at all about the camera.

well i know on PKMN rom you can turn the flashlight on in quick setting them take a pic, thats all i did

False. I have been using it since it released and is incredible. I'm using the stand alone apk now so I can use both camera apps just in case. You may have to use the lower resolution version though, some people experience crashes using one version in 3D mode. As if 1 of the cameras is smaller than advertised.

The amaze camera is an attempt to port the camera from the htc amaze. It utilizes zero shutter lag to use burst mode, smart shot, and a few more features. However, zero shutter lag has to be enabled in the kernel and rom, which hasn't been done yet. It does offer some interface changes but nothing too major.
The reason I use it is for having no compression on the photos. They probably compressed the pics to save storage space, but we really don't need to worry about that as much as we did on dumb phones. Less or no compression means a sharper image and more accurate color. They also increased the bitrate for video, which is less compression. I also noticed that the white balance was more accurate than the stock camera at the time. But htc fixed that since then (remember green pics? Amaze camera didn't do that).

Blurry camera?

I just got my amaze today. I was expecting a stellar camera experience but instead all my photos come out blurry with the stock camera app.
When I switch to CameraFX from the market it takes much better pictures however.
Any way to fix the stock camera? I assume this is not normal judging from the reviews I have read.

I've NEVER been able to get a pic to look like the elite pics in the pic thread. I just chalked it up as "operator dysfunction."
Maybe I will try a different camera app.

yea i also experience same.all my photos come out blurry with the stock camera app.
Just gotta play around with it, those other apps focus were and when you want them to, unlike the stock one. Never hurts to have a second one.

My stock camera is fine. Hit menu and check the resolution. Mine was set at low resolution by default. That and the other options.
It also helps to have a steady hand since it has a quick shutter

That's very true. It's fairly easy to get a bad snapshot if your not used to it.
I have not had a single issue like that. I think the stock camera is sick and I have tested alot if other camera apps.

Hmmm idk I'll keep messing with it. Would a factory reset help?

tweak your brightness to contrast ratio and one key thing is always to get a good steady pic is set your camera in/on time mode (2 seconds is enough to hold it steady..)

I never used that specific one, but have you tried this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408341 Seems to work great for me.
This is the app I use, its a nice app, has worked on any device I have put it on, even non rooted devices.

The brightness of the Flash LEDs on the Rezound has nothing to do with the app you use

or it can also be the fact that on my incredible i had cm7 and had torch which pushed the leds to their limit and made them really hot but i just loved that flashlight helped out when i needed to look for something in the dark
again, as a.mcdear pointed out - this is a 100% hardware capability thing. while some software might not set the same brightness levels in settings, the limits are the limits of the hardware.

yes i know but i took out the leds out of my broken rezound i have a second one that i bought retail for not getting insurance never again and connected to a 3.5 volt connector and was significantly brighter so i know it can be forced to be brighter!

Sure, and you can hook them up to a car battery and they will explode, but that does not mean that another app can miraculously cause the hardware to deliver more power to the Flash LEDs. The fact is that the torch setting on any app is probably already using the maximum brightness that the hardware is capable of.
Snowman is not making things up. The nexus torch on the Incredible would overpower both LEDs at once for a crazy bright light. When I would run non-CM7 ROMs on my Incredible, I always looked for an alternative app that did the same thing, but never could. Most could only run one of the two LEDs. If they could light both at once, they were not overpowered.

The galaxy torch works for me. Its free on the market.
It's a kernel tweak I believe, find someone who knows how to change it then there you go

Try something for me then say again that the hardware limits the brightness.
Enter a dark room and turn on any of the available flashlight apps. Then, turn it off and take a picture with flash on. No comparison.

Yes I know all of the apps are the same but that torch one on cm7 is just the best and brightest I think they force the LEDs on the phone to go brighter because they do get hot

Yeah the torch app on the incredible was so bright that every time you turn it on it had a warning popup saying not to leave it on long because it would melt **** lol
No offense, but if having a bright flashlight is really this important to you, why not just get an actual flashlight?
Otherwise, if you're in a pinch and just need a quick light, the rezound is definitely bright enough for illuminating a dark area (like putting your keys in the car door in an unlit parking lot)
I still have my incredible (gf uses it actually) so I know how bright that app is.
What I was saying is that the rezound is clearly capable of the same bright flashlight as the incredible. The incredible one turns on the leds as if to flash while taking a picture but keeps the lights on. I see no reason why the rezound could not do the same. Now do I know how to get that working at the moment - no. But I'm interested enough to do some research and I'll post what I find.

Screen won't change to 3d in gallery

I've searched, as I always do... I'm on complete stock so I'm not sure what the issue is. I took a 3d picture using the stock camera app and it showed in 3d. When I view the picture in the gallery, (its on 3d mode), it shows the two images overlayed and the screen doesn't turn into holographic mode. I have Instagram, pudding camera, and stock camera, but those shouldn't be affecting the gallery... Does anyone have some insight? This is my 3rd replacement so I'm not afraid of going to swap it again...
There was something important I should've added, but I don't remember what it was...
I remembered. It used to work fine.

Think it was a bug with most gingerbread roms, stock or not I had these problems. Usually a reboot fixed it, but it always came back eventually.
On another note since updating to ICS I have not seen this happen ever.
Thank gawd, was annoying as hell.

Cool. I'll just wait until ICS is released from Sprint next month. Thank you!

Do a factory reset, it will clear up any software issues, which seems to be your problem.
Whenever I had 3D issues a simple reboot usually fixed it. Often times this will fix many little android quirks.
This was actually the same issue I had with my second one. I was in the store two days in a row lol. I don't want to reset because I can't backup my data (yet... Once my factory warranty is up I'm modding ICS)

Anyone else notice the little red LED on the left side?

So I just got off the phone with my girlfriend, I'm hitting the hay early tonight, waiting for her to get home and she just called me so I put it on speaker.
Then I noticed there is a faint little red LED on the left side of the phone right above the screen, it went away when the call ended but I never noticed it before.
I know the OG EVO 4G had 2 LEDs, CM made the second one useful, but idk about the 3d or other evo phones.
I should note i am in a pitch black room and this led is about 1/3 of the size of the notification led. Also is extremely dim, almost looks like a red circle.
Kind of cool
Wondering if anyone else has noticed it

It's not even an LED in the sense you want to use it as.
