I have searched and I can't find an answer..
I have installed virtually all of the current 2.2 ROMS and I cannot get any of them to recognize my sd cards...I have odined back to stock, and flashed over and over and every time, the phone will say "no sd card inserted" IT even did the same thing when trying to mount the sd cards through clockwork recovery with the OS not even booted up...
When I flash a 2.1 ROM back to the phone, it behaves perfectly and reads both SD cards normally. Any one else have this problem or know of a fix?
i thought i had this issue last nite what i did was turn off usb debug then checked ask on connection in the usb setting and let it reboot and waited for it to reread everything then it was fine
If you had read all the posts of all those threads that you got the ROMs from, you would have seen that all the Froyo Roms had this issue. This has been posted many times over the past few days.
In Eugene's Froyo thread, you may find a fix for that.

I have read plenty of pages, and this is s huge issue and I haven't seen a thing on it. I can't even get to clockworkmod from 2.2 because it will not read my sd card.
If it has been posted so many times, could you please post a link to just one of them? I have been looking since Monday night! (Reading and searching)

Thanks.. I did see that, and tried it, but it doesn't work still..I made this post after flashing that ROM with the sd card supposedly fixed. I can't use anything that uses the sd card on this ROM that claims the fix or any other 2.2 rom. I would like to run obsidian...

I did all this just for fun and its still the same! The phone says there are no sd cards inserted!
The computer still will not recognize it either!
I flashed the r10 rom and did a factory restore while still in recovery. No problems since then.

There is a separate SD fix, but that was included with the new rom apparently. I have seen posts that those who pushed that fix had it work.
If I go to settings>sd card and phone settings
both the sd card storage and the phone storage say unavailable!
this only happens when you are using 2.2 right?
yes.. its only on 2.2 roms.. and every one of them I have tried.. when I flash back to 2.1 it works great.. I am guessing its some sort of kernel issue...
I did get it rebooted into clockwork and wiped pretty much everything but the sdcard...did not do any good.. also tried moutning the sd card from clockwork with 2.2 installed...the sdcards did show up on the computer, but when clicking on them it said "Please insert a disk into this drive"

i have researched this for 3 days straight and have found a solution, their is no fix
1.) if you remove your sd card and reboot the phone with it not in there, your internal memory will mount just fine.
2.) so that made me think it was something wrong with my external card, so i went and bought another one, samsung branded, 8 gig class2 card, and what do you know, it mounted just fine.
3.) i did found out that when i flashed back to 2.1 it would see my old sd card, but when i upgraded to 2.2 it wont.
its like 2.2 does not like certain branded sd cards, the one that wouldnt work on 2.2 was made by A-Data

Interesting.. Thank you! I am rebooting without the sdcard now and sure enough the internal card is showing [email protected]
Mine is an 8gb class 6 card.. not sure what brand... I am going to format the sd card and see if that helps!
that was it.. I put my 2gb card in and it worked great.. the 8gb card worked great before, but apparently was not compatable with 2.2
I bought a Nook tablet 8G runing 1.4.2 and followed the thread on the Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final and it worked only part way. It will only boot into CM7 if the tablet is connected to the computer. I works GREAT when I get it booted into CM7 I LOVE IT But what did I do wrong?

If I understand other threads this is only when you are booting from SDcard for CM7
You did nothing wrong. A weird quirk the Nook SDcard Reader and some SDcards makes them slow to be ready. if it's not ready when nook tries to boot it, it fails and then books Normal nook.
But a little extra power seems to make the Reader/sdcard ready faster so it boots correctly.
You can try a different SDcard.
Not sure if it's cheap slot in nook or cheap card probably both.
You can search for thread on this. I boot internal so I don't see this issue.
Thanks for the reply..... I have a 16G Class 6 SD Card. I can try a class 10 to see if it makes a difference...
I have an 8GB Nook Tablet and made the foolish mistake of attempting to try and root it with acclaim-update.zip. Now my Nook will no longer boot and I've tried every unbricking method available. No progress was made.
I was a bit too eager to eager and rushed headfirst into it without researching it more thoroughly. If there's no fix for it, then that's fine. I just wanted to run through ever resource possible before giving up on it. I have spent the past few hours scouring the internet and coming up with little to nothing.
Have you tried booting CM7 from sdcard?
What things have you tried to make it boot?

Shouldn't you just be able to put the unmodified acclaim_update.zip on your sdcard? It should work and fix your nook. When you put the sdcard in, make sure the device is off, and then connect it to the power adapter to get it to turn on
IF its completly dead/ erased boot erea then your only option will be jtag.

put that image on a sd card and boot by plugging in the usb cable into the charger

So far I've tried the Ubuntu method of unbricking it, factory reset, and booting with the 1.4.2 zip file to return it to factory settings. None of them have worked.
But I'll try CM7 and see if it works.
Am in the the same shoes... got a bricked NT 8GB... looking forward to restoring 1.4.2...
attempts to restore the firmware to factory:
Cyanoboot + altboot + B&N 1.4.2
Followed guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562130 , using (a) the img from dropbox and (b) nooktablet_1_4_2_update.zip from B&N. No luck. The process stops on the initial screen on cyanoboot, where it shows 'Loading (sd)...'. I don't even get to enter the menu that shows the boot options.
flashing_boot + B&N 1.4.2 update in ext3 partition
Next I downloaded the img link above, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24912163&postcount=5 , no luck also, the tick appeared on the flash 'Installing new software' screen after 4 minutes. After I removed the mSD card, the NT did a data cleanse, and got an error message about 40% into the factory restore prompting me to contact B&N. It then goes into the reboot loop (this is where I am now).
Ubuntu unbrick
No luck. NT don't even boot up to mSD with the mSD card slotted in.
I've tried the above multiple times, downloading the files few times as well. Am still stuck in the reboot loop.
Would like to seek help from gurus here for pointers... Am stuck at this point.
Thanks alot!

Can you get to CWM using Indirect's NT-CWM-SD package from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583
Get a micro SD card, fire up gParted (or whatever partition manager), put a new MSDOS partition table on it. Then make a new FAT32 partition at the beginning of the disk. Set the boot and lba flags. Copy the contents of Indirect's zip onto the disk. Stick it in the NT. Hold power + n for 10 seconds and wait for the grey "n" to show up on the screen for a second. Then turn it on.
If that takes you to CWM, then you've got options.
using a properly formatted SD card should solve most issues.. its the great thing about the nook.
1.make sure your using a good SD card. sandisk 8gb class and up would be best
2. make sure you grab the 8gb nook cm7 image.
3. preferably use a component based card reader. by that i mean one other then a laptops.. the laptop ones tend to be picky and lots of people in the nook color days had issues and most were resolved by using a computer one over a laptop one
4. with the nook OFF plug the usb cable into the nook then into the usb port on a computer
check out stickies too

Negative. I wish you were correct but - in this case - you are not.
Your advice is probably appropriate for those who cannot get an SDCard to boot properly. However, the O.P. has a bricked device and his original post is most descriptive. His NT8 will not boot to the INTERNAL EMMC. (I have the same problem.)
There are several of us here on XDA who are not novices with this issue. The O.P. has listed the various steps that he has followed and they are much more involved than a simple SDCard format issue.
BTW, most formatting issues are when users are attempting to format with Windows. I use Linux exclusively and I can ALWAYS build a boot SDCard without issues.
Also in the same boot as the O.P.
I also am having this problem. Been going through it for mths now. I've tried every possible fix people could come up with. I have been talking to a youtuber albertwertz. he would like me to send in my nook tablet to him to fix and try out different things. I would like to but cant afford it at the moment. Dang I hope someone finds a fix for this or make a cm9 sd bootale img or something dont get me wrong i like booting cm7 from sd but is this all im subject too. HELP SOMEONE. what are these developers working on. lets get this fix my people. PS thanks for all you all hard work on all roms.
Lost Nook 1.4.0 partition
Hi, Lavero.
I think I may have accidentally deleted the default nook partition. I can still boot up via SDCard and goes into CM7. How can I recover those default partition? Do you have those commands within Terminal Emulator or any other options?
If I do not put in my SDCard, with power cable connected, the nook tablet 16GB keep rebooting. I still want to recover my Nook default OS so that I can repartition it the next time I go to BN.
Hope to hear from you. Thanks.
I've been reading up on these forums for the past few weeks and finally decided to dive into trying to use cm7 with my nook. For now I'd like to run it off the SD card per the instructions posted here . I was able to get the image written to the SD card but my nook does not seem to boot from it.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something obvious but. Does my NT need to be rooted before cm7 will load?
I'm using a NT16GB repartitioned by B&N to 8GB/8GB running 1.4.2.
Thanks
Plug it in and try to boot.
Guess i left that detail out. My particular model boots when the power supply is plugged in. With the sd card in place i plug the power cord up and it boots straight intothe stock rom. The sd card is recognized and i can browse its contents.
Try flashing the card again.
It must have been something with my card reader. I tried imaging it a few times through it and it didn't work finally just left the card in the NT and used it as the reader and it worked flawlessly.
Thanks for the quick responses.

thanks digimax, i have read that several times over and have tried everything i can think of. i have used different sd cards, different usb cables, usb ports on my machine. i even went out and bought a brand new 8 and 16GB class4 sds and still nothing. i have used win 32 disk imager, acronis dd, ubuntu live, and fedora core that i have dual boot on my machine. i have downloaded the image from 4 different sources( using alberts method) and tried each of them numerous times. is it possible that my NT is unrootable? would it help if i downgraded from 1.4.3? if anyone has a verified working link on an image ill try that. if i can get CWM going then i can take it from there as far as kernels and roms, its just getting to that point that is so frustrating

Just to confirm: what you burn to the SD card (using win32diskimager) is the .img file extracted from inside the downloaded zip file, and not the zip file itself?

I extracted the zip which contained win32diskwhatever and the image file i used win32 in admin mode to write the image and create the partition on the sd card. im currently abandoning that route though and am just going to try breaking down and flashing CM10.1 on it. i saw a post where you had stated that that was an old way so im going to try something newer. i have all the files downloaded and have built the partitions using mini tool partition manager im copying them over now but i think it will be tomorrow before i try to flash ill let you know if it works, and just to be clear when i flash the CM10 on the sd card i can remove it and the NT will still boot CM10?

If you flash onto and run CM off an SD card (e.g., as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36685310&postcount=1), that CM10 SD card has to stay in the SD card slot in order for your NT to run CM10.
If you want to be able to run CM10 without an SD card you'd have to flash CM10 internally on EMMC (e.g., see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43326042&postcount=123) to replace whatever ROM (stock or otherwise) you currently have.
Note thatSD-based installation and EMMC-based installation use different versions of ROM zip files which are not interchangeable, so make sure you pick the right version.

ok i tried using the premade image and putting it on the sd card to boot from. i made sure card was flagged as primary active 0x0C LBA and it was set to boot( if that makes any sense, been up too long lol ) that didnt work. so i tried to build the card my self reading through several times and double checking as i went. still nothing when i try to boot up with the usb cable. i have been using the stock cable could that be a problem? this is what i came up with when the NT booted normal (attachment below) can you tell did i do something wrong? would it be easier to throw CM onto the eMMC? if so can you link me to a version of CM that would work on the NT 8GB? thanks in advance!
Personally, I had trouble booting & running SD cards. I'm convinced it wasn't hardware but my noobness! Since then I've always loaded only to emmc. I also had trouble going directly & straight to CM10 roms from the B&N 1.4whatever OS.
So, looking for a recovery + rom that matched, I used Indirect's app to get cwm 5, then had no trouble loading a CM9 rom (all to emmc). Once CM9 was up & running good, I used Goo Manager to load an updated TWRP recovery suitable for CM10, then Cm10.1, etc. That's what worked for me & to this day I see no need to boot from SD's. Just me tho.

If booting of a pre-made image does not work, there might be a flaw with your NT that precludes it from booting off SD card, and if this is true I am not aware of any way to root or flash stock ROM onto emmc if your NT is currently running stock.

It's indeed true that there really doesn't seem to be anyone not being able to get their NT to boot from sd, provided they follow suggestions. So I repeat the questions I asked in your own topic (and please, try to stay within one thread to maximize the chance of getting this sorted!):
1. Are you 100% you are dealing with a Tablet and not a Color? (Model no fr Tablet 8GB is 250A)
2. Are you using a SanDisk class 4 sd card? (And burn it according to instructions)
3. Have you tried turning the device off, inserting the card and then insert USB cable connected to power (not computer!)

ok through a series of unfortunate events and through no fault of my own i now no longer have a NT but i do have a nook color now. for those of you wondering i DID have a tab but the screen ended up mysteriously shattering. wife was trying to be nice and ordered me what she believed to be a tablet but a color shipped instead. still trying to decide if i want to do anything with that but thats for a different thread. so i still dont know what happened the tab wouldnt boot CM10 before it broke ( or after either lol ) but i pulled the sd out and tried it again in my wifes tab using the wall charger to jumpstart it and it booted CM right up. so i guess i just got the crap draw out of the nooks we bought at the exact same time. still trying to figure out how i can pin this on best buy for selling me a faulty device lol, but i just wanted to say thanks for everyones help and feedback. when i threw the sd into my wifes tab it loaded CWM and CM10 just fine. ordered her a class 6 san disk sd to put in it to see if that helps with some of the lag issues.:good:
Ok, so I'd like to piggyback off this before starting my own thread. I have a bunch of Nook Colors that I have no problem booting off of SD cards for my kids. Now the 8gb Tablet is proving much harder for me. I've redone the SD card method 4x by two different methods and I keep getting the same result: It boots up fine, allows me to create the google account and even dowload apps. However, out of nowhere it will reboot and then I am stuck on the CM10 boot screen that just loops forever. I am repartioning a 16 GB card, making it active, windisk img the zip file to the card fine.... Does my symptom sound specific of something? Let me know. Thanks!

I encountered this same problem for the first time yesterday when I tried out a CM10.2 SD build.
If you are using 10.2 you might want to go back to using 10.1 for a while longer.
Yeah, but what if I'm on CM 10.1? I used one build from June (2x) then one from Aug (2x) and now have the same symptoms. This does not sound indicative of something specific? Like aren't some 8gb tablets troublesome from SD? Or is this a user error still of some sort?
