Is there any way for this device (possibly with a custom rom) to use a desktop's internet connection while connected (player to PC) via a USB cable?
I've found a couple of other guides for this here, but they all require built-in support for tethering, which I haven't seen in any of the ported roms, so far. On top of that, the procedure seems to vary significantly between devices, so a guide is only good for a single family of devices.
The tethering apps are for sharing the android devices internet as an internet source for the computer, basicly the player becomes a "wireless card" for the computer.
Is there some reason you have internet on a computer and no access to WIFI?
Try "reverse tethering". There was an article on the portal about it a couple months ago. Never tried it myself, but I think it is what you are looking for.

I'm asking this question on BEHALF of MYSELF and OTHERS. Can you SHARE your LAPTOP or PC's connection with your android phone.
For example lets say i wanted to play a gameloft game but i need to download additional data through Wifi, is there a way for me to use my Laptop or Pc's connection through my phone so i can download the game for my phone.
If anyone has a solution to this question please make your answer VERY DETAILED
I am on a XPERIA X10, Please reply or answer THIS QUESTION
Advice:
I've Googled about this problem. I have data plan in my phone and no WiFi at home. Many people like me also use this way to get connection. But what they got were "FAILED". ONLY WAY = connect TO WiFi (can't say every game, but maybe 1% can use reverse tether method)

melvinchng Same here i dont have Wifi in my house, there certian games that wont download with my carrier network and insist on me downloading through wifi. I ALREADY know how to download GAMELOFT GAMES that require wifi only but it is very inconsistant and dodgy on my x10.
Theres a wifi signal on my laptop i can connect to the but the signal on android phones are so bad i just cant connect to the router.
If your pc has wifi(I know you don't have wifi in your house) you can download and use the app connectify for windows
If your pc has a working wifi card (with drivers installed of course), then you can share its connection via wifi. If you have windows 7, you can use "Connectify" or "Virtual Router". If you have windows xp and above (on a dell pc. Don't know if it works on others), then you can use "Dell Laptop to Hotspot Converter".
there is a guide on my device's forum about this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229558
for the step where it says "bridged local area connection and LG adaptor," you must find the equivalent of the lg adaptor that applies to your phone (if that makes sense). other than that, i think it should work.
What you are looking for is called "usb-internet pass-through" correct? Alot of custom roms already have it as a feature in the wifi setting, next to wifi hotspot. Im not familiar with your device or whether you are rooted but its pretty handy. Can also work as a wireless card, as in turn wifi setting on the phone and plug it into a desktop that doesnt have a wifi card and presto, wifi through your phone thats through a wireless router so its not eating up your data quota and much faster than the 3g on your phone. Submitting a pic of my wireless settings on Virtous Unity ROM.

Hi all.
I have a 3G (HSDPA) mobile phone, not Android nor a smart phone, which has Bluetooth DUN profile: I can already tether my laptop to it via Bluetooth.
I'm planning to buy a WiFi only tablet running Android and would like to tether it to my mobile phone the same way as the laptop.
I've searched through the forums here at XDA with (apparent) no luck.
Is there any application/ROM for Android tablets that supports such a use?
I've tried a few Android phones (both stock and modded), but they don't seem to support Bluetooth tethering.
Is there any hint, reference, link or advice?
I am not scared to eventually do that in command line on the tablet, though.
Please don't suggest WiFi tethering (as the phone has no WiFi) or USB tethering as both the tablet and the phone just work as devices, not host.
Thanks in advance.
No way?
Depends on the tablet you purchase. I have an Archos 101G9 Turbo tablet and an old Nokia E71 phone. I cannot tether the tablet to the phone through the bluetooth settings menu as it just does NOT show any profiles for the phone. I can however tether the tablet to my phone via command line commands. But this requires the tablet to be rooted in order to use such commands.

Well, rooting is almost mandatory to have any non-trivial feature on these devices.
I was just wondering whether my "special need" was somehow supported in some tablet with stock or aftermarket ROM.
I do understand that a fairly complete bluetooth stack should be already in place in Android.
What I need to understand is how far my feature is from a simple use.
Well I just happened to install BlueVPN from the market a day or two ago and it works like a charm. No need to open a terminal emulator and do what I've done before.
Using either way to connect to my phone still results in some native apps not recognizing the connection. The web browsers work (stock, opera mobile/mini, firefox, chrome). But native apps like the gmail app, speed test app, and probably a few others just won't recognize the data connection. I wonder if some other properties need to be set for them to recognize it.
Not a huge deal for me since the web browsers work.

These are great news for me.
While email and calendar can be accessed with the browser, SSH (ConnectBot) needs a connection. Could you please check whether this works?
I fear there's some firewalling or NAT in place, this is why it's not working... maybe.
I tried ConnectBot out for at least the telnet portion and that was able to connect but could not send anything from the onscreen keyboard. It just would not recognize anything I typed. I do not have anything to SSH into so could not test that connectivity out.
It connects at least from what I can see. But dislikes the touchscreen keyboard on my tablet apparently.
Hi, I've looked at the other threads but I can't find any definite answers among them (either lacking or requiring additional equipment).
Anyway, my first question is how do I share my laptop's wifi connection (connected to my school's wifi, but they limit access to 1 MAC ID per student) to my S2, through USB? Like, is there an app/program/setting I can just use upon hooking up my S2 to my laptop and it can share its Internet connection to my phone?
Second question is how to work it the other way around, like if I have the wifi connection restricted to my S2 only, and share its internet connection to my laptop (and if it's possible wirelessly, to my iPod touch as well).
Thank you for any help. Cheers :good:
I am using 4.0.3 ICS on my I9100 S2, standard Win7 laptop.
Don't think you can via USB, phone doesn't have those capabilities. I guess you'd have to do it via WiFi. I imagine you'd setup some kind of 'server'/whatever software on the laptop similar to how you setup an SSH tunnel/relay (which involves your phone connecting to a host machine remotely which uses a secure connection to use the internet rather than accessing it normally via your carrier).
There's probably threads on here which would have the info you're after, but don't use XDA search; do a Google search & append XDA to your search terms. Gets better results in my experience. Also a straight out Google search should yield the info you want (it's not going to be easy tho; expect to do a lot of reading/fiddling).
Re: using the phone as a WiFi hotspot for the laptop, again, many many threads on here/Google search about setting up same. Re: doing anything with the iPod touch, you should know you're in the wrong place for that.

I guess I'd do the latter one (Google -> +xda). Thanks. And I guess you misinterpreted what I said about the iPod, I meant if it's possible to connect to the phone's hotspot if it's connected to wifi (using an iPod, laptop, etc.), but thanks really.

I see. I think I'll decide on rooting my S2 then in a few weeks. I heard the JB update's around the corner and I might just wait for that.
Thanks guys, anyone who can add even more is free to do so
At work I can use my android devices for surfing but as soon as i try to use a app like a game that needs internet it wont work. How can I find out the ports app uses and is there any workaround for this?
I understand that the ports is blocked in router but is it possible to re route it trough my tablet?
Hi, I'm using MIUI V11.0.2.0.OEGMIXM on my Redmi 5 Plus (not rooted) and faced with some USB tethering problems. When I tether my 4G connection to PC it works, but when I'm trying to download some files, games etc. internet connection to PC randomly drops. It can download 100mb and drop, and it can download 1gb without drops (magic?). Also, connection drops even when I'm using Discord and watching videos on youtube, but it's a very rare thing. I can't play matchmaking in csgo because it's says "Failed to Reach Any Official Servers" and in dota2 "Unable to ping any region. Check your internet connection". Also, I have Strict NAT type in any game like GTA V, Warzone etc. I have installed qualcomm usb driver because I thought it might help, but it didn't affect anything. The only solution I found, it's use VPN. I'm not like networking guru, but I think it's works because VPN route all traffic through his gate. I connected another phone (Samsung Galaxy A30) and start tethering connection through usb and it's works fine, no drops, no problems with csgo and dota2, so it's not a problem with my PC. Furthermore, I think it's like a feature of redmi 5 plus or maybe firmware, also I can't choose option RNDIS(USB Ethernet) in USB configuration, only MTP and PTP. I couldn't find threads about that problem at all, so I have no idea how to fix that.
