Broke YouTube somehow. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

OK. I feel really stupid posting this. But I can't figure out how I broke it. Every time I click YouTube app, I get the 'youtube has stopped unexpectedly' window.
I'm on stock odex rooted ROM. I did install a battery mod. SystemUI.apk. it works fine. SystemUI was odex, so I had to rename it's odex then push the apk. That's really the only mod I've done so far.
Today, I open YouTube, and it won't open. I even tried renaming the odex file AND the apk file and pushing an inverted YouTube and setting permissions. Still same. Won't open. So I removed the themed one from /system/app and renamed originals to original names. Wiped caches and rebooted. Still won't open.
Is YouTube tied to systemUI at all (dont see how it could be, but that's the only thing I changed). Oh, also did the htclinkify edit a few days ago, and youtube worked after that.
Sorry. Seems like a stupid question. Just wonder if anyone has any insight.
Only mods:
Build prop edit for apple patent. - YouTube still worked
SystemUI and remove odex.
I dont see how either of these could affect YouTube.
Much thanks.

You seem to know what you are doing. Have you tried a backup then wiping and flashing a new Rom? And of course, you've cleared the YouTube app settings right?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE

Also, this may sound obvious and stupid, but have u tried uninstalling thru titanium backup and downloading a fresh version and reinstalling?
I don't understand what all u did concerning the odex, but that's my own inexperience.

Yup. Cleared settings and data. Numerous dalvik wipes after trying different stuffs. Wiped defaults Just totally puzzled. Haven't tried titanium, as I figure doing it thru system/app is as good or better than using titanium. Maybe I'm wrong.
Yeah, I'm not totally new. Just can't figure out what the hell I could a done to break it.
SystemUI and remove odex, and prop edit to fix apple BS is all I've done. I know it worked after prop edit. I'm feeling really stupid right about now.
Edit: and of course I reboot and wipe aches after changing anything. Weird. Probably just have to flash a ROM. More interested in fighting out how any of the 2 things i did could break YouTube.

Just remove the app, and re download the app from the play store.

I noticed that the build.prop restoring what apple took away is noted to cause some errors within YouTube. Have u tried restoring the build.prop from before the apple features were restored?
Not saying its your fault in modifying the build.prop but I know I have overlooked what I was doing and messed up. Especially in writing code, more in c++ but it all looks the same sometimes.

"Unsupported Device" Google Wallet works JUST FINE!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RVmiPIGeF4&hd=1&list=PLDE03959E8AD704DA
Yeah, I even ran the RUU that Football posted, without wiping my Google Wallet data first. Why? Because I did it before the thread was posted.
I followed the directions that were posted here, and my Google Wallet worked fine. Then I rooted, and made this video!
I flashed viperboys de odexed and it messed up my wallet .
Than realized I backed it up via titanium restored data and it was perfect well says not supported device but 10$ is back
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I don't think anyone made the claim that unsupported error made your wallet not work. The error everyone is talking about is the "secure element has stopped working" which is a complete different one and it DOES mean that you will NOT be able to use the secure NFC capabilities ever.
The Unsupported Device error only comes up when you have root and has no effect on functionality.
EDIT: While this is awesome and shows people that the unsupported error is nothing, anyone that wants to keep wallet functionality and flashes ROMs should do the following before flashing anything:
Launch Google Wallet
Hit menu button> Settings> Reset Google Wallet

Here (and my Reply). There are SEVERAL more, and I could spend all day finding posts like I qouted and linked to above. THAT'S WHY I made the video. Not because of the whole (NOT RESETTING GOOGLE WALLET) Thing, and then it not wanting to work. I just stated that I ran the RUU without resetting google wallet, followed directions, and got it to work just fine. Have I made my point?
All it probably means is that google will not secure problems with unsupported devices. So basically if your rooted and you use google wallet they want none of the liability. You SOL if you loose your phone.
no se error
So I acadently forgot to reset my wallet before wiping my system and data like 5 time and I booted everytime and I forgot to reset it before flashing vipers Rom and I have yet to receive that error. So is everyone that says it get broken have proof on the EVO or are they going on the proff from the nexus?

Someone has to supply an edited apk from the root of the file system you then over write the file and change the permissions and reboot, of course some one could always provide the full apk and you can uninstall the market version and install the modified. A CMX nightly is supposed to be coming out with a fix soon

Its takes patience which is why I'm surprised I didn't run into any problems. Then again I have a good grasp on most of the theory. I can very easily trouble shoot most problems with out having to read up in anything, the procedures are what vary but I can still point people in the right direction about 85% of the time
Just thought something and I need to confirm
In the Evo 4g lte themes and apps subforum here, there is a thread about wallet. There is a link there for one from modaco website. DL it, move it to system/app and set permissions to rw-r-r and reboot. Doesn't matter what ROM or version you're using. I used it on sense 1.13 and now on AOKP.

For anybody reading this bumped thread still:
The buld.prop editing is needed too.

Edit: And really the build.prop edit is all that is needed. Makes sense as that tells whether to use the apk's method or not period, not totally necessary to delete it (except out of spite ):

I was entertaining the possibility I could wind up flashing a build.prop mod or backup with those values we're editing left in as default carelessly.
Fallback precaution, ya know? Breaks links in text messages and gtalk, couple other quirks if apk is gone and those build.prop values are still at default.
Would probably realize the change in behavior again and know what happened, but things won't "break as bad" at first, at least.

Confused about Titanium Backup's Freeze and Uninstall options.¿?¿?

Hi, just curious, I thought freezing and uninstalling an app through Titanium backup were the same thing?
I uninstalled htc lockscreen .apk, and the lockscreen went back to the oldschool style.
BUT, when i just freezed it, nothing happens. Its still the same lockscreen...???
I know this is a newb questions, but I could have sworn since my OG Evo days, that freezing is the same as uninstalling?
Mind sharing some of your insights?
THanks!!
That is weird I just froze the lock screen and was wondering why it didn't change!
I renamed the. Apk and the. Odex file and I have the stock ics lock screen now. Weird.
I believe freezing an app just removes it from being seen by the system (and user) kind of like hiding it and not having it use any resources. while uninstalling is completely deleting the item. For lockscreen, i've never frozen it, but you should back it up and then uninstall. Should work like the old EVO since apparently freezing didn't work

[TEST][SENSE] Those with WiFi issues check this!

From personal experience on a sense rom WiFi drops in and out regularly even though my router is fine and every other device connected to it is fine. It is annoying as it always happens to drop when I need data such as when I'm browsing Google+ or need to search something on Google Now. WiFi drops, 3G connects, 3G disconnects, WiFi connects, all of that creates about a 5 second wait time which is NOT negligible.
Anyway, I started reading up on what manages the WiFi connections in Android, and more specifically Sense because I don't get this issue whatsoever on CM10. I may have found the possible verdict as I successfully no longer get WiFi drops and it stays constantly connected to my access point.
What I found was that the default settings.apk from sense is what manages the WiFi connections so I decided to stick in a stock AOSP settings.apk file in there in its' stead to see if that helped. It did greatly help, and on top of that on all settings screens such as app info screens and app instalation screens I get the AOSP look that I love. It really does complete any 'sense-less' ROM.
So without further ado, I have attatched the stock settings.apk with a few mods to make it work on sense flawlessly. Please make your /system partition writeable and overwrite the sense settings.apk in /system/app/ with the one attatched. Please let me know if this works for you guys too. For reporting make sure to put your ROM version in.
Do the permissions need to be changed?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Works perfectly. Thank you.
Can someone please explain how to do this, including what app to use for the permission changes? I'm really not comfortable with file managing apps and switching out system files yet. But I really want to try this out, mostly to complete my vanilla android look and feel.

Cool, nice job man. This is the first I've seen of the AOSP menus, very cool. I'm looking forward to CM10 even more now. I wasn't having any wifi issues, but I liked the sound of having a little touch of AOSP to hold me over until an official release is out.
I used ES file explorer on Viper4G (you may wanna make a nandroid first):
1. Launch ES, open menu, go into settings
2. Make sure Up To Root, Root Explorer and Mount File System are enabled
3. Browse to the download location of the apk in the OP
4. Copy the apk
5. Browse to /system/app
6. Paste the apk and confirm overwrite

You bet...you can download AOSP status bar icons through the Venom hub and then apply them in the Venom tweaks menu. I personally prefer the stock icons though because they are a bit more crisp looking.
To those with wifi issues. If you have sense, go to wifi settings choose frequency then change to 2.4 ghz.

Hey Art2Fly, I would suggest you either make a new thread or change the title of this one... This is a pretty big deal outside of the WiFi issue! I am more excited about the AOSP styled settings menu! That's pretty significant, and I would imagine that all the devs making non-Sense ROMs will be baking this into their ROM. Nice job - I love the new look!
Premo - I totally agree on the ICS theme... Not quite polished enough for me yet. So close to pure AOSP without having AOSP... Haha. It's really impressive how much Sense they removed.

That's strange. Yeah, factory reset won't help because that clears the data and cache partitions only, but this modification is to the system partition. You could try downloading a Sense based rom (like Mean, Clean, Fresh, etc.), open up the zip file and pull the settings.apk out of there to replace the one you've got now...it should be the same as the one you had originally. Did you do a nandroid backup first?

Stock screen off animation

I just noticed this a few days ago, and it's not a huge deal but I figured I'd ask anyway. I'm currently on The Base 0.7.3, and recently I don't get the stock "iris closing" screen off animation anymore. The screen just blanks out when I turn it off.
I noticed this after I flashed the different 4.2.2 ROMs in the original dev section. After flashing those I restored a backup, which is what I'm using now. After finding the loss of the screen off animation, I've since re-restored the backup, doing a factory reset, wiping cache and dalvik, but nothing works. I guess something must have messed up with my backup, although everything else is perfectly fine. I suppose I could do a clean install of The Base, but I first wanted to find out if anyone else knew what might cause this, or if I could just flash or load some stock file to get it working again. Thanks.

its an animation file in the media folder insiide systems though i am not sure which one
one is like the bootanimation file and theres another one....maybe that is your answer
but still i m not 100% sure about it
placing that file in a rom can help
Also check to make sure window animation in developer options is set to 1. I think any other option stops the screen off animation.

You can look for it in system/media as suggested above but not likely.
Typically it is the framework.res.apk - you would have to decompile, edit, and recompile the apk.
Here is a how-to (have not tried this) YMMV

I think many of us would be very grateful if someone made that animation available as a zip that could be used with any ROM. I know I'd be willing to buy a beer for someone who does.
