SD card problems in different application - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. Many applications have problems with sd card access. How to fix it without root?
For example, es file explorer displays internal samsung storage instead of sd card...
P. S. Sorry for possibly repeated question. It's impossible to search at tapatalk...

Guys, please help!

Ok
1. Open app
2. Menu
3. Manager
4. Sdcard analyst
5. Disks (button up near to menu)
6. mnt/ external sdcard
Change back to internal by the disks button again or back
Next time, external sdcard shortcut will be on your favourite (star button)
Maybe easier easy way, but I just installed it to try and quickly help you.

Nice !
Should be put in the wiki

Thanks. But it does not work. After this procedure I can still see only internal 'sdcard'. What I did wrong and is there any solution?

Try re-format (full, not quick) external sdcard exfat or fat32 in PC
Try again.
Also make sure out is mounted to phone:
Settings > storage > sdcard mount

Unable to install apps on Internal USB storage

Before when I move the installed apps using ap2sd or appmonster by default it used to move to the internal USB Storage(11GB) of Galaxy S2. I recently did a wipe re-flash of ROM and after that when I move the installed apps- by default its going to the external SD card I have installed which is 8GB. Now the internal storage is not used at all. Is there anyway I can fix this issue without going for another reflash? Any help is highly appreciated!

Nope it doesn't... That's exactly what the problem is... Unable to move apps to the internal USB (SD) memory... It looks for an external SD card instead and gives an error...

I think I'm having the same problem.
Only noticed it this morning when I tried to download a new app (existing update fine) and it failed, stating that it was unable to save to USB storage. I also can't mount USB storage in CWM recovery mode.
Did you or anyone else find a solution?
Well it appears that my internal storage is knackered.
Booted into CWM and tried to 'mount USB storage', but am greeted with 'E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory).
If factory reset and flashing a stock ROM is necessary, then I can do that. But, if the storage is inaccessible, am I even able to do that? Would opting to 'Erase USB Storage' in the settings>storage menu be of any use?
sameproblem here...
ok i solved the problem...
i write an Answer Threat
I had something similar when I installed a ROM with an older CWM. I lost my SD card but could access it from the PC. I copied a backup over to the internal memory and recovered.
how about just unmount the external SD card then try to install again?
Unable to move apps to internal usb storage
I am also facing the same issue.Somebody plz let me know any workaround for moving apps to Internal USB storage. Under settings>application manager> there is an option to move apps to external sd card only. Is it possible to install/move apps to internal usb storage (around 11.5 GB). Please help.
Phone - Galaxy s2 (At&t sgh i777)
ROM - Shostock3 rom (android 4.1.2)
I have mounted an external sd card and using link2sd to move apps to it. One thing I noticed that with sd card mounted, when I move apps to external sd card, some part of the app moves to the usb storage and also the app size increases after doing so. However, still there is no direct way of moving/installing apps to usb storage without an external sd card.

[Q] EVO 4G LTE SDCARD mounting to wrong folder...

So I just got my new phone today. I put in my 16GB MicroSDHC card from my old EVO 4G and things were okay until I connected the phone for the first time to my PC as a Hard Drive.
My guess is that an app was synch'ing to the SDCard when it was dismounted and wrote some files into the /sdcard folder that serves as the mount point. When it did this and I disconnected from the PC, the /sdcard folder was no longer empty so it mounted the SDCard as /sdcard2.
It now seems that the phone is still using /sdcard folder and not the /sdcard2 folder thus rendering the card unused.
Has anyone seen this? How do I fix it? I dismounted and erased the card. I even did a factory reset on the phone, but it didn't seem to erase files inside of the /sdcard folder so it still mounts to the wrong place.
In most apps you can't change where it writes its data but it's usually to the internal sd. When you plug your phone to your pc you can only browse your external sd.
/sdcard is the internal memory
/sdcard2 is the card you plugged in
When I plug in to my PC, I select the Media Sync option and can see both sdcards just fine.
I hope jelly bean fixes that, but then again I was hoping ics would fix it and that didn't happen.

Ah! Thanks for the responses. I've just done what I always had done with my older EVO 4G ... and couldn't see the folders I was expecting.
I feel better now. Too bad the normal disk drive USB option doesn't mount both...oh well.
If u root and use team win recovery you can select which SD card to mount from recovery. Not sure if this will help or not.

Is anyone having issues seeing folders on the internal drive when using media sync? For example, using ES File Explorer, I can see and SMS Backup folder and Angry Birds Backup folder. However, when I connect to a pc with media sync I can see some of the folders that are on the internal drive but not those. Anyone else having this issue?
Edit: I am still not sure why I am having this issue but I do have a bit of a workaround. I used ES File Explorer to move the folder I wanted to update to my sd card. Then I connected it to the pc and updated the folder. After that I went back into ES File Explorer and moved the folder back to the internal drive. I was able to update my SMS Backup etc.

problem i see though is i just made a nand and it saved it in the internal memory not to the external sd card but when I go to restore its not finding the backup I made.
If you use a file manager app, such as ES Explorer, to copy or move it to your external drive / sdcard2 / or ext_sd / then you can use twrp to restore it. hope that helps

Hello,
I did bought orginal Samsung mincro SD card 32gb class 10. I did put inside to the phone and first what i did after phone did show me space 29gb i did format it from phone options in settings of storage. After format i did reboot my phone just in case. Now i did plug in phone to my pc and all do work fine. My pc see Internal and external storage on my phone. After when i did copy files to my external memory of my phone and do unplug micro usb i cant see my external sd card on my phone. In apps like winamp/RockPlayer/BSPlayer/ES File Explorer...all what i can see is only sdcrad which is internal memory. I cant see external memory at all.
Best thing is when i do put movie anywhere on external sd card by usb/pc and run build in samsung app "Video Player" its see video form external sd! I dont know whats going on and i did have S2/Dell Streak/Note and never had problem like this before.

There is no Root folder or mnt.
Oki small update. I just did give a go to one more app "Root browser lite" and i can see all folders and sys files. Looks like problem is with moust of apps which can't handle way of G3 works with external sd card. I'm right?

Yes you're right. The s3 and other devices that have like 16/32 GB internal memory uses part of it for system and the rest is mounted as "sdcard"when infact it's internal memory. In addition to this sdcard there's the real sdcard which is mounted as external-sdcard. Many apps are programmed to look for only sdcard and not ext-sdcard. For such programs creating a symlink using the above tool that I posted will help it "see" contents/folders of the ext-sdcard.
As you mentioned some programs can and some can't browse/see ext-sdcard - if it's absolutely necessary, creating a symlink is the only option I can think of.

External SD Card and storage problem

Hello Folks!
i just bought a 32gig micro sd card for my S3. inserted it, formated. everything goes well. but now i have problem. is there anyway to change the settings of touchwiz, so it downloads and installs all apps on the external sd ? and how do i change the backup location in titanium backup ? titanium backkups take up quite some space, so it would be great if they can be stored AUTOMATCALLY on the external SD. Btw S3 is rooted.
Thanks Guys
Titanium Backup
Go on menu, then Preferences
Then Backup Settings, Backup folder

For the first problem you have go to the mods section and search for internal sdcard to external sdcard..you will get a zip which will toggle the memories so that your internal memory will be shown as external and vice versa ..all the apps will then be stored on the external sdcard

Hi,
Since I have similar issues and more, I jump in with my own questions...
It seems that my ext sd card is only partially recognized. For instance, Rom Manager does not see it, so when I want to install a zip file from Rom Manager, it will only browse for the zip file within the internal as card. I can however browse through the ext sd card from Recovery.
I can also reach my zip file stored in the ext card with ES file explorer, click on it and open it with Rom Manager to install it straight away...
When I do a nandroid backup, I get a message during the backup process stating something like "no ext card found"
I'm just wondering how the ext sd card can be recognized in any situation? Could this relates to how I formatted it? I did a standard formatting with my Windows 7 PC, so it was fat32 (or fat).

[Q] ACER Liquid Gallant E350 finds 2 SD-Cards, how to use the 2nd one?

Hi folks! I'm quite new to android so if this is a real noob question where i could have found the answer by myself by doing a little searching (which i did, without much luck) please delete this thread (or point me in the right direction )
I recently got an ACER Liquid Gallant E350 running ICS. According to the specs it should have 4 GB internal storage and of course space for an microSD-card.
However when i check "storage" i have 1GB "internal storage" and 1,6GB "USB storage" and then there is my 32GB microSD card that shows it has 29,23GB.
The thing is the 1,6GB USB storage is seen as a SD-card by the system and also called sdcard when i check with file manager. My 32GB microSD is called sdcard2.
So when i tell the system to install to sdcard it will install to that 1,6GB USB storage (which is almost full!) and i cant find a way to force it to install it to the real SD-card.
Even with app 2 sd it will try to copy the apps to that 1.6GB USB storage and (as far as i can tell) i cant tell it to use the other (real) SD-card.
Is there some sort of fix or work around for this? Did ACER mess up by naming the internal storage sdcard?
I think you have to edit the script to do that manually. Find out the name of the sdcard2 partition, and put that in place of the sdcard partition which is currently in the script. You may need to clear & reflash everything, then flash your customized a2sd script.
Also make sure you've established what partitions you want on the microSD card, and how they are to be formatted.
Ah that sound like more work than i expected. Also i dont think there is a tool yet to backup the ROM for this phone
So i guess im kinda screwed for now. Isn't there an easy way to maybe symlink the data folder to the SD card? (i think it's the android folder isn't it?)

hello, i have the same problem with my acer liquid gallant duo (os4.0.3), when i go to storage in settings in preferred install location i have 3 options:
-internal storage
-USB storage (sdcard1)
-let the system decide
it doesnt have the sdcard2 option..
I have tried the Directory Bind ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262 ) and it works but first you have to install it in usb storage(sdcard1) and then move it to sdcard2 and if an app is biger than 1,5gb you cant install it in the first place coze you only have 1,4gb of free space in usb storage(sdcard1)..
in ROM MANAGER i have seen an option that it sais partition sd card, i will read more about it and i will check it out
this is the first android phone that i have and i am new to this
Hi all!!
I also have the Gallant Duo, I love it! But this thing about not being able to move apks to the external sd (sdcard2) is very annoyning? Is there any solution apart from directory bind? Like this one f.e. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/choose-your-own-storage-with-folders-plug/. Does anyone know if this works? Also, does anyone have a modified vold.fstab file with the sdcard2 as internal sd and internal as external?
Looking for an answer to this question i didn't found it here, but i think here should be an answer.
What worked for me:
use the app External 2 internal from the app store.
Check use per default:
The original internal mounting point: /mnt/sdcard
The original external mounting point: /mnt/sdcard2
The ext. sdcard device access: /dev/block/vold/179:25 I'm not sure about this setting, i just looked in the folder and this was the highest number. so more information about this is welcome
With these settings i've good results. But after some reboot's with "at boot**" (no init.d support needed) i lost access to my sdcard, in fact every one.. When I restored my ROM(super stock ROM) using CMW everything worked fine again, no loss of data or whatsoever, and external 2 internal worked again till now.
But now i'm wondering why the boys and girls from super stock ROM didn't fix this upfront..?
