Hi guys
I've been so excited lol. I've literally ordered my Xperia S two hours ago and hopefully should receive it tomorrow or monday.
My question is that I currently have an Arc S. Knowing that the Xperia S does not have external memory available. So my question is how can i transfer my sms, bookmarks and whatsapp conversations across?
Also is ICS officially available for the device?
And is there another way to unlock bootloader? Like on the Arc S was the testpoint method. For some reason I dont want to lose the DRM Keys due to warranty issues. and Obviously the only way to root this device as far as I have found is by unlocking the bootloader.
Im so excited to receive the phone. I've been wanting this device since its come out.
Thanks for all the help in advance guys.
ICS isn't available yet and there is no other way to unlock the bootloader yet
Sent From My Sexy Xperia S
ICS is coming any day now, there's no way to root without unlocking the boot loader, BUT it doesn't void your warranty AND DRM keys are used for literally nothing. You can connect the XPS to your PC, and it'll show up as an external device (think iPod) via the MTP protocol.
Ah okay thanks guys...but I am getting it on O2-UK so i think it might not be possible to unlock it the normal way. Will have to wait to find out once the phone arrives.
Is everyone happy with their device so far though?

DRM Keys are used for TrackID, GraceNote and another music related thing I forgot. There may be other things too.

Without/with DRM keys, trackID works fine. Currently nothing has been found to stop working (at least on my side) without the keys.

Hi guys has anybody ordered their handset via o2 uk? i.e. order over the phone?
Yay its finally here. Just setting it up slowly. However the upsetting news is that I do not have an unlockable bootloader. However its not so bad. Ive not got a lot of bloatware with o2 uk. I did however uninstall the bloat that I could like wisepilot and mcafee, etc

If you want a "clean" Rom without bloat, you can flash another official Rom with flashtool. There is plenty of info here on xda

You'll want to flash this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716031
It's the newest (.75 and .76 are about identical), very little uninstallable bloatware (fewest of all customizations) and because it's Nordic you'll probably get ICS as one of the first. NL Generic is also very clean (and has .75 available), but is always one or two weeks behind with updates and has slightly more bloatware (but it's still all removable).
If you prefer a faster download mirror and don't mind perhaps waiting just a few days more, you should probably go with NL Generic, it's what I'm on. You can download Flashtool and NL Generic (go for .75 right away) from here: http://www.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Sony+(Ericsson)/SE+Xperia+S+(LT26i)/STOCK+ROMS
Good luck with it!
Thanks guys for everything. Im still in the process of setting up the phone so I may flash this one. Im just hoping one of ourvdevs find away to root locked bl devices I know this is a stupid question but link2sd wont work with this device will it? And the 32gb storage is that used for user/system apps as well or just media only? Thanks very mucj. Im falling more and more in love with this phone the more I use it. Screen is so pure. Oh and if I leave nfc on does that drain alot of battery?

You have 2gb for apps, that's more than enough. And NFC was designed not to drain battery.

Totally agree, normally I like to get root straight away but with the Xperia S I just feel no need at present.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Totally depends on what you wanna do with it.
I needed root voor titanium backup and root explorer. If you don't need this then there is really no need.
At the moment I don't see a reason to root. The rom is great and stable. The only reason for rooting I see now is if you want to install/flash a host file to stop all the ads.
There's also a nice framework mod out now with quick toggles in the notification bar. Like there is in cyanogenmod.
I have still not rooted the xps. Will probably do it when some good custom roms are out..
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
If you use a rom does that change the phone completely or just a part? Or does it only add something?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
It depends on the Rom. If CM9 or even CM10 reaches the XS then you get a completely different user experience. If you use a custom rom based on the existing XS NXT skin then it still is Sony interface.
I have not yet needed to root yet myself either.
I would wait for ICS before i do any rooting. Only reason i would root is to get rid of bloatware and those annoying ads.

It's been happening for a few days, and I know it's not that bigger deal but it's bugging the crap out of me.
Almost Every time I go on a app the dam phone freezes, could be just for a few seconds or for 10 mins, and if it freezes for a long time I have to reboot it by holding the volume buttons and power buttons.
I've deleted all my apps and reinstalled them but keeps happening.
Anyone come across this and found a solution?

Mine reboots all the time, no matter what I do, even while in a call! It's really annoying! It happens from the beginning, since then I've changed all the firmwares available, rooted with stock kernels, now I'm on 76 with Doomlord's advanced stock kernel

I flashed doom kernel advanced stock to get the rooting and then I flashed stock kernel extracted from the ftf.
Now I stay without recovery but no more freezing.

I've had the same problems to be honest. From when I got this phone(first week of release in UK) until about 3 weeks back, I had no problems at all. But since then I've found it lags really bad on certain apps and a lot of the time it crashes so I have to do manual reboot.
Mine is on FW .67 with no custom roms and not rooted. But apparently the .75 update is available for UK generic now so hopefully, these problems will be solved.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago then i send my phone in sony service center. They have fully reinstalled the phone software and now the problem is gone. You can do the reinstalling by yourself, u just have to use flashtool and choose one of these ftf's http://www.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Sony+(Ericsson)/SE+Xperia+S+(LT26i)/STOCK+ROMS
Updates and repairing from SEUS and PC Companion won't help. Fully reinstalling the software is the only option. You can stay calm because the problem is software, SONY are awared of it and i am sure the ICS will solve it. Enjoy your phone.
I assume by doing that by yourself you would be invalidating your warranty?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
if it is Kaputt u take it to the shop and demand new unit!
remember to take receipt with yall.
Usually, if it is a bug or software related problem, they will only flush it and reinstall the program... normally, only hardware related problem is being replaced with new unit... but of course, it will still depend on the technician that is going to verify your problem... those technicians who wants easy job, will replace your unit regardless of your complaint...
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
@iainbp Are you still experiencing the same problem? Even though you said to me that even after updated to .75, your device was still the same. I updated 4 days ago and I'm having no problems with lag or freezing at all. Only lag I have seen was due to an app rather than the FW. So, as others have said, either send it to Sony so they can reinstall, or do the easier option and simply flash it

When i tried ics when it first came out my mini had like 100 problems with it. It would lose sim card, it would lose all the ringtones at every reboot, it was slugish with out of free space warnings all the time and a lot more. Basicaly unusable so i was on a rooted gb the whole time. Now out of boredom and curiosity i am thinking of trying ics again. Any chances that some of those issues are gone in latest ics firmwares for mini?
I never unlocked bootloader, only rooted, even stock rom is up, so can i update with pc companion or have to flash ics?

You can update using PC Companion, but if you want to root, I would suggest to think of it before updating. Because you can use the local-prop method for .431 on .587 etc, too. Just run local-prop on gingerbread, update without a wipe, run push-root-files and you should be done

use PC Companian. but that will unroot your device. by following few steps u can root it again.
You know what guys, I really miss honeycomb. Especially the way you add widgets and also the customization that Sony did with the app drawer- they shouldn't have gotten rid of it in my opinion.
I still have my old Tablet S (Although with a cracked screen sadly)
Is it possible (I have root) to downgrade to 3.2?
Why did Google get rid of the awesome screen which added widgets.
Or perhaps someone could send the launcher?
Ive done extensive research and tried many methods and asked people alot smarter than me it cant be done until the bootloader is u locked. Once it is than we can the reason is because the recovery has been updated in the current version of android and once it is you cant go back because it is part of the Rom and is hidden. Yes ive tried downgrading and before I got bootlooped it said cannot because of recovery version. I WASTED about 2 months on this idea as well as a few other people and also Condi the best dev we have over here for the tablet s has tried and theres still no way until the bootloader. Ive also looked at testpoint unlock but if you've ever looked at the motherboard theres gazillions of testpoints so who knows which is the right one plus taking it apart isnt exactly a walk in the park like it is with phones. Youll just have to wait like me. Btw head over and sign the bootloader unlock petition.

Decided to send my XZU back to Sony as I have got abit Fed up with it. I'm sending it back as getting annoyed with phantom touches. I have already upgraded firmware etc. Also I haven't had a screen protector on screen I have relied on the factory installed anti shatter film/protector. Which was a big mistake. But Sony told me as standard they change the anti shatter film anyway... Is this true. Also as I don't have the magnetic dock/charger. The usb port rubber seal has come off. And the usb port doesn't seem to hold as I'm guessing because I use it all the time. Any one had to deal with Sony much. Worried it won't get sorted and they ask me to pay for repair etc. Thanks

Be sure to be on a stock rooted ROM before you restore TA, or else you'll be stuck. The bootloader should lock itself after you've restored TA (if you use the TA Backup Tool in the cross dev section at least)

When you get it back, switch off all the vibrate and haptic feedback settings in relation to the screen and key boar 's etc. My partner and I both had the phantom touch issues (his was worse than mine). Once we switched off all the haptic feedback and vibrate stuff, the problem went away.
