Hi guys,
My first post and unfortunately I'm asking for help, sorry about that! I've spent all day researching this problem and I'm now desperate as I've got to send this phone off tomorrow!
I rooted my phone a while ago, did the usual, all went well. I was running a "insecure kernal" (is that the right term?) as the yellow triangle was appearing everytime I booted the phone. I wasn't fussed so carried on using it as normal.
Yesterday I finally got around to removing that pesky triangle by installing a "secure kernal" (again, right terminology?). Everything was fine until I wiped the phone. I'm now stuck in an infinite loop. I can access the mode where I can install things via Odin (yes I'm a noob, the XDA welcoming video drilled this into my head quite well).
I'm running Gingerbread if that's of any use? My firmware version contains BOKE3 (that's the kernal that I intalled). Again, I'm sorry for my noob questions and info. I'm stuck and almost pulling my hair out. I'll pay £15 to anyone that can help. (Can I offer money? If not I'll speak to my girlfriend and see if she'll let you borrow her for the night...I kid..maybe).
All help is appreciated.

Since you've already wiped the phone once, I guess you don't mind losing any data on there.
Find a stock ROM for your device (check under battery for model number), be that GB or ICS. Flash from download mode via Odin. Factory reset from stock recovery.
Out of curiosity, why did you wipe your phone after flashing the kernel?

So, I was in the recovery mode and accidently bumped the power button when it was on "delete davlick cache" or something similar and now the phone goes to the galaxy s screen, hangs a while, and the screen goes blank and will not load. The buttons do light up still however. I have tried the odin steps to repair a soft brick using odin 1.0 and 1.3 and I have tried both JVD and JI6, nothing will get the phone going. I have followed the directions to a T so I am wondering if anyone else has any ideas. FYI I have spent the last 3 hours reading and trying methods already described, which is why I am posting a new thread. Thanks in advance for any help.
Can you get into download/recovery mode?
Does Odin recognize it when you plug it into the computer?
Were you trying to flash something when this happened (i.e. why were you in recovery mode in the first place)?
A little more information never hurts =)
~SB
sounds like exactly what happened to me, you'll have to go into download mode and use odin to fix it.
I have the same issue. It happened after I received a T-Mo ota update. I've cleared everything I can find to clear. I can get into recovery mode, but when I select the reboot option nothing changes. Anyone have a link to a walk through that a novice could understand? One with nice little things like links to the programs/files necessary? Thanks in advance.
ok this also happened to me i used this to return to stock and everything came back fine.
since i cant yet post a link i provided the thread # paste it to the end of the address in your browser.

replacing the ,'s with .'s
Try using eugene's froyo that does not brick w/ odin
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I tried flashing back to the orginal stock t-mobile rom (JFD) through odin but no luck after multiple attempts. I finally just brought it to a t-mobile store and the are sending a replacement. I was fully prepared to take my lumps if they told me it was my problem but since they want to replace it I'm okay with that too. I still have the phone and am going to try some of the other steps that you guys listed before I send it to T-mobile. I was actually partitioning my sd card with the rom manager app and while in recovery I accidentally bumped the power button while "clear davlick cache" or whatever was highlighted. Next thing you know I don't have a working phone. I'm not sure exactly what that does but I do know it messed up my phone. This isn't the first time I've modded phones, did a lot of flashing on my old G1 and Wing and never had anything like this happen.
Oh and I was able to get a good connection with odin, it stated it was successful everytime I tried flashing back to the stock rom but it never fixed the problem.
When I bricked my phone I made sure the insurance company couldn't tell I modded it. Vibrant's don't do to well falling down stairs lol

I didn't go through insurance, T-mo is just replacing it through the warranty. I started to sweat a little when they booted it into recovery mode thinking the tech guy was going to ask the rep at the store to give him the info that comes up to see if it was rooted or modded but the tech just had him clear the phone data and reboot and when that did not work they went ahead and sebt one out. I wouldn't have complained if they told me I was SOL since it was a risk i was taking but I also don't feel bad as they are charging me $10 dollars more a month then I was quoted after my upgrade and I am not sure if I want to go through the hassle of putting in a complaint through the Attorney Generals office. this just may be my payback.
Got it fixed!!!!!
Just got my phone running! Follow the steps in this thread, you first download eugenes froyo and flash to your phone through odin and then immediately flash stock 2.1 through odin and your phone is fixed. I am so happy right now!
Here is the thread with full instructions:

Honestly I want to help you buddy, but because you neglacted to read anything before you did this, this is your fault!
Yep very old. I cant believe that Koush hasnt figured something out for this yet. He fails too. CyanogenMod has always pushed ROM Manager, even tho most devs state not to use it.
OP: Get into download mode, and flash another, PROPER, kernel with ODIN or Heimdall.
Then use CWM to flash things.
I's in good mood today?
Well thanks anyway; hope to find a solution and post it. I know it was my fault so lwts move on its part of the experience in Android World.

@jdpardo,
If you can get into download mode, or have any sign of life from your phone, then it is not a brick, and you should be able to recover. Please let us know if you can get into download mode, and more help will be forthcoming.

Wish you good luck with that. Jtag takes a fair amount of dexterity for the micro soldering, and some fairly expensive equipment. If you are unable to get it done yourself, the owner of Mobile Tech Videos will perform Jtag recovery for about $50.00.
I sincerely hope you know that the method for getting into download mode on I777 is to take out the battery, plug normal portion of USB into computer already running Odin, then hold both volume buttons and plug in micro USB side to phone.
If that really does nothing for you, then try mobile tech videos.
i777 soft bricked, boot loop never goes away...
I bricked my samsung galaxy s2 i777 by trying to flash a rom via rom manager. While it was installing it, it rebooted and got stock on boot loop.
It can go into download mode but never to recovery or beyond.
I tried every solution recommended out there, like flashing stock kernel, stock rom, different roms, siyah kernel, oneclick unbrick, and you name it. I tied ADB but it does not recognize the device, nor does oneclick unbrick.
Somehow I need to go ahead and wipe everything but since I cannot get to recovery, I cannot wipe it, and every time I flash something via Odin, it goes through the whole process successfully however once it reboots after flashing, it is in bootloop again. All I see is samsung galaxy sII logo window.
Any solutions?
Thanks!

A simple way to get the i777 into download mode:
unplug the usb cable
turn the phone off
hold only the volume down button
insert usb cord
Almost instant download mode.
this really will help you

I'm not saying it won't work, but the fact that you've got a file from gs2root shows your inexperience and/or lack of concern for the well-being of others devices. There is no reason to take the risk of using ANYTHING from gs2root... you can get everything needed to do everything possible with this device right here from xda and have the peace of mind that it will work as expected so long as you follow the instructions.

after using a windows phone for years, I finally switched to android and OMG. I love it. Except, it's like linux. Once you break it, it's really really hard to figure out what you broke. I've been googling for the better part of 5 hours now and I've read through literally hundreds of different sites and I still can't figure out how to fix my phone. I followed the instructions on how to root your phone at androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-epic-4g-touch-root-zedomax-kernel-65389/
When I restarted, it booted to a yellow triangle with a bang in the middle. It will not proceed farther than that. I'm assuming that is because much like linux, the kernel isn't compatible with the OS. It's the zedomax kernel on a sprint galaxy S II SPH-D1710. So, my questions are, am I in the right forum for this and.... how do I make my phone work again? I have odin installed and can get to download mode. However, I can not figure out how to get to recovery mode. Any help is appreciated!

Read as many sticky threads as possible and if there is anything you don't understand, then ask questions.

Hello everyone,
Hoping you can help me before my mrs cuts my nuts off. She asked me to update her GS2 (GT-I9100 on 02) and completly wipe the phone as she has had random apps appear etc etc.
I said that wouldnt be a problem as ive done alot on my GS3, though i am still pretty new to the Android scene (Previously iPhone).
So she was on Stock 4.0.4 XXLQ6 firmware.
I followed the guide to root from here as i was aware of the hardbrick bug in this firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
After that it was time for the Wipe data etc and flash the new rom. I chose JELLYBAM as its Android 4.2 with a mix of other things. Sounded perfect.
I followed all the steps EXACTLY from the Devs page:
http://www.igio90.net/how-to-install/
All seemed to be going well at first, got to select afew options etc. Then it said it was Extracting the package...This is were the problems started.
It was stuck at 2% for AGES, then out of the blue the screen just went BLACK/BLANK......Hmmmm i thought!
I have since been trying to source info from everywere about how to turn the phone back on but having no luck at all. I have tried all the Soft/Hard boot methods, ive left it on charge (Yes it gets hot near the camera) and tried all boot methods whilst plugged into laptop with ODIN loaded up.
Nothing seems to be working.
Any help what so ever will be much appreciated. This device was never previously rooted. Im gutted a it was all going so well...I shoulda guessed something would go wrong.

Thank you for your reply, Unfortunatly i cannot enter any mode what so ever. The phone is literally dead...yet getting VERY hot as its plugged in.
Was thinking about taking it in to O2 2mora and seeing what they can do. Damn.
If your still under warranty you should get a new motherboard. They won't be able to tell you've rooted it since it seems hard bricked.
Next time, get a custom kernel on it a.s.a.p and backup efs and make a nand backup before you start flashing roms.
Either that or stay away from 4.0.4 stock.

Thanks for your reply, I did put a custom kernal (Sirayh?) on it prior.

See if you can get your hands on a usb jig.If that fails try for a jtag.

JIG & JTAG....will these help solve my problem? Not really clued up on them though i have done a brief look around. JTAG services is not in my area.
NO, on hardbricked S2 JIG/JTAG won't be useful. You can check my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242 for more info.
PS : the direct signs of this kind of hardbrick is a totally dead phone & back side getting hot (near the camera lens)

Just took it to a repair store and he said its knackered, but to be honest he wasnt much help...more interested in the texts he was getting on his phone!.....Typically a GS2...Im still pondering if he was taking the micky :silly:
if your s2 is still under warranty, just take it to the reapir service and tell them that the phone was on charge all night and didn't wake up in the morning
they won't be able to know what you did to it since it's completely unaccessible. If you successfully convince them, they'll change the motherboard !
PS : That isn't my idea but from what I saw in the hardbrick warning thread, most of the concerned people did the same trick ...

Please be more specific if you expect anybody to bother to help you.
When you say "can't really do anything" that doesnt tell us what you have tried and not tried!
1) Can you enter recovery mode?
2) Can you enter download mode?
3) Have you tried a USB Jig?
4) Have you removed battery for 30 mins?
5) What happens when you power on phone?

Sorry.
1) Yes
2) Yes
3) trying to find now what it is
4) For 30 mins no, for few minutes - yes
5) It starts and then i got some errors memo.process, process.acore and few others (can't remember now). I can get email, explore through home screens and menus, but can't call, receive calls, write messages, look up contacts or memos and stuff only going through screens. Maybe I could do a hard reset or wipe the phone, but then won't i brick my phone?
EDIT: As user Pilaf suggested (thanking him a lot!) I installed a new siyha kernel then did a full wipe / factory reset, seems everything is backing up from google account and phone is working..
So you're telling me that the official 4.0.4 has a hardbrick bug? Well that's great.
Should I just wait for the official 4.1 or can I flash for example the Siyah kernel and then start flashing other ROMs?

Come on man, he's serious, so let's answer seriously
@krnrdstrm : to avoid the hardbrick, just flash a safe kernel (siyah, speedmod, dorimanx, philz ...) and enjoy ...
PS : didn't you have internet in jail ? :silly:
emmc bug

Yea, have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
Siyah should be good,
Thanks: googy_anas
Not sure what the CM updater uses, but I have tried to update with Philz, got stuck in an installation loop of the update itself.
Tried to use my jig and flash back to stock right now, got into download mode and was able to flash back to stock, but right now, I got into download with the jig, flashed stock ROM, and got a bootloop but am UNABLE to get into any recovery at all.
Pretty screwed up. Really need some suggestions here, guys.
Any ideas?!
I can get into download mode and flash via Odin (USB drivers installed via Windows 8)
Flashes successfully, installs stock recovery, reboots into bootloop.
No idea how to fix it.
Not a noob here. Nothing is working.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem and I ended up finding a working CWM tar file that can be installed using ODIN and I was then able to boot into CWM fine.
This is the exact file name: recovery-cwmtouch-6.0.2.7-GTI9300
I don't remember where I downloaded it from, but if you Google the exact file name I am pretty sure you'll find it. Just flash it using Odin and you'll be good to go.

Well, now I'm even more f****ed than before, because I had a zero count, but after trying this, I got a custom count in download, and I still cannot get into recovery.
Nothing works.
Bye, bye warranty.
Edit:
The 6.0.2.7 version by MSKIP worked, but the updated one did not.
I got recovery, now I'll see if I can flash stock and recovery to get my counter back to zero.
Sorry to hear about the counter. I'd suggest rooting your device, installing Triangle Away, resetting your flash counter and then finally unrooting your device by installing stock ROM from SamMobile or such. That's the best route if you want your warranty to remain intact.

He probably needs a booting phone first.
But like he said, he's not a noob. He knows all that

Hi all,
I am stuck in the very same problem as of today!
I don't know what to do!
One more weird symptom is that when I tried to charge the Note battery..it suddenly went to bootloop again!
The battery was 100% at the begining of that damn update process!
I don't know what to do..all suggestions are so welcomed.
