I am wondering because I have used ROMS like "Team Insomnia's Juggernaut" which has changing the DPI to make it into tablet mode built into the rom itself. I am using kifacs OnlyOne rom now which it strives on being natural looking so safe to say there isnt a built in DPI changer in it. I am wondering if its possible to change the DPI on ANY Rom? I would like to see this ROM in tablet mode but not sure of the risks with this and or how to do it. I have heard that ROM toolbox has a way to do it. Any help and or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance!!:victory:

Yup, ROM Toolbox Pro is the best way to do it. I have changed all the Roms i use via Rom Toolbox even though some say they have it on the rom. Plus it helps supports those developers to keep doing what they do best.
That's all I had to hear a big thanks goes to.you bro!

Hi,
I wanted to express my opinion about the TEAM PERFECTION'S ICS OBJECTION rom.
The ROM is perfectly smooth - just works out of the box. It may appear deceptively simple, but the long update list in Development thread's OP provides a good explanation why it works so well.
If you had spent some time running Hybrid or Collective Troposphere ICS ROMs then you will be surprised to see the ATT boot animation (though I'm sure that if it's not to your liking then it can be replaced with any other animations that had been posted in different threads )
And another great thing about this ROM is the developer response time - appdroid is actively monitoring the thread and before I had time to load the stock rom there was an update for mms FC that was reported - now that's impressive.
The only issue that I had observe is phone hanging when trying to restart the phone. Happened two times but on third reboot it was ok. Didn't seem to be reported by anyone else so may be just my phone?
Oh, and if you are as adventurous as I am - don't try flashing Tablet Mode UI fix - I already did That will FC System UI and Launcher. From everything I've read in Hybrid thread I knew that this couldn't work, but just had to try (perhaps the fact that I got tablet UI working really well in Troposphere ROM contributed to the desire to make this attempt)
Edit - both of the issues listed above are gone, kind of. Did the exact same steps as earlier and this time rebooted fine without hanging. That part is for sure. As for the Tablet mod - it works fine at the DPI above 213. Again, make sure you flash TabUI_all_DPI.zip as this is the one I tested. 320 DPI is too big, but I think 240 should work fine.
Edit2 - Tablet UI works! Just not with default launcher. I was able to get 213 DPI resolution to work with Go Launcher, but Nova should also work
If you are a new user like me and cannot post in Development thread then you are welcome to add your impressions here. Other senior contributors are also welcome
I don't intent to move all of TEAM PERFECTION'S ICS OBJECTION-related discussion here, especially since appdroid is monitoring his thread very closely. But it's nice to finally have a voice.
I flashed tablet mode over this. The combo works perfect

That's great news. Will give it another try.
I assume that you loaded the new Tablet UI enabler zip (TabUI_all_DPI.zip) and ran it at <= 213 DPI?
Edit - did you also observe hanging on shutdown/reboot?
I ran TABLET_UI_AOSP_A2. Nothing else.

Thank you. I got it all working now, just had to load another launcher (go launcher) BEFORE loading tha tablet UI (though I used the latest multi-DPI zip) and it worked fine at 213 DPI. If you can, please post in Development thread as people are asking and I still can't post there. I will PM Jay (appdroid) too.
Love this rom. there's just something about it like. Flashed A couple of roms but always found myself nandroiding back to gb. Been on this since last night and after a full run today I like it a lot.
Only thing I changed was the launcher to apex. Just needed something that looked stock but gave me more grid space. Works great.
Swapped the mms.apk with the one from tye noteworthy thread and no more fc there.
Now I just need to get tethering working.

Thank you. And of course if you want to run at or below 213 DPI you need to replace contacts app. But then again, if you don't care about samsung dialer commands (like #*2263#) then might as well replace the whole dialer, as at that resolution some dialer buttons in stock dialer are partially cut off.

Tried both before posting - none works.
Of course your post is a clear indication that it works for you. That means it's just my system then.
I think its a fantastic ROM so far. I had a couple FC's when doing the initial contacts sync with gmail and then when trying to put weather on the lockscreen. Other than that this ROM is fantastic. I think this might be one I stick with until the second leak comes out or the official ICS push.....Thanks DEV's!!!!!!

Same here. Though I might miss some of the tools available in other ROMs
Sometimes I wish we had a sticky thread with ALL the updates available globally (i.e. rom-independent) so we could get those as needed. Just like we have for Accessories forum.

Guys please rate the ROM if you think its running smooth! Plus RC1.1 out with fixes!
Man, I just read everything on Per-App DPI over and over again trying to understand it. Can anyone please explain it as thoroughly as you can? I'm confused as hell. =/
Wasn't it easier to just use rom toolbox to change the DPI to where you wanted it? Now, when I flash hybrid rc2 or the new alpha 3, I go to rom toolbox like I always have to change the DPI but it doesn't work anymore. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong with because of this new per app dpi, but to me all it has done is made everything EXTREMELY complicated. I'll list what I have tried:
-I flashed alpha 3, flashed the 320 zip, went into rom toolbox to change dpi to 280, 240, 220, and the only thing that changed was the lockscreen text. Everything else stayed at 320.
-I flashed Hybrid RC1.1, flashed the all-dpi zip, changed dpi in rom toolbox and everything was fine. Worked like previous roms with tablet mod.
-I flashed Hybrid RC1.1, flashed RC2, tried to change dpi in rom toolbox to 280, 240, 220, and had the same problem as I did on alpha 3.
Am I right in understanding that in order to change dpi now you have to edit the build.prop for every app you want changed? Is that what the per app dpi is? If that's the case I have no clue how that is close to being easier than using rom toolbox or lcd density from the play store.
Can someone please explain all of this to me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much. I'm about to start pulling out my hair lol. =(
P.S. The directions in DAGr8's thread are very minimal and not easy to follow for people who don't have the experience that he does. Its jibberish to newer flashers. It just says something to the extent of "change whatever app you want's dpi but it has to match the build prop dpi, and also the keyboards need to match" -- those instructions are a little hard to follow. So just lookin for some help.
I didn't read the whole post...kind a in a hurry but for what I know the tool box doesn't work on rc2 which is why it still worked on rc1. For what I understand, certain apps require certain dpi and people also would rather have a higher dpi for reading emails ans such but don't want to lose tab mode or they don't want to keep toggleing dpi settings in rom toolbox. So in a nut shell, this mod will allow you to set certain apps etc at what ever setting you want while keeping your phone in tab mode. I'm sure there more to kit but this is what I've gathered.

I would really love a bit more info on this.
I run my phone (Sg3) at 240 its amazing. but dialer/camera/clock/samsung keyboard
DO NOT LIKE 240dpi. dialer and camera "work" they are just ugly.
clock crashes (using alternative for it for now)
would really like to get samsung keyboard working. the LH3 one stops crashing but its too small to be useful at 240dpi since it does not "expand" at 240.
would REALLY love app dpi but on my stock rom (I like the samsung features so I don't want to goto paranoid)
where is dagr8's thread?
or where I can get "modified" versions of these apps to be 240 compliant? bala_gamer made 240 compliant dialer but it does not work on the sprint Sg3 only the international variant.
So I made this thread to get some feedback and stories from other people of their experiences with the ROM Toolbox app on the Samsung galaxy player 5.0/4.0 U.S. and International version. How have your experiences been? For me pretty much the app is useless because if you try to change anything it will throw you straight into a bootlopp. So before you use it remember to do a back up on you clock work mod recovery Anyway what have your experiences with the app been and what do you think of it?
On my 5.0 US using the GenericGinger rom, it doesn't cause any problems. Custom boot animations don't work on the default settings from stock, but are perfect on Entropy's kernel. You can change icons, but they don't always work correctly - I changed the battery icon to one with numbers, but now it only shows 20% increments (the icon supports 1%0). The build.prop tweaks do work - the DPI is quite handy, and it successfully blocks ads. However, some parts of the themng do not work - I have tried multiple notification backgrounds with no effect. I think it's well worth getting.
As a side note, are you running a deodexed rom? If not that may be your problem.

Yeah I'm using 2 roms actually one is Ergybits 2.3.6 based custom rom with and the other is tsnuras cm9 aokp rom. At this moment i am using the cm9 based rom, but when i was using the ergybit rom, it would always put me in a bootloop whenever I tried to change anything, i havent tried it on this one, because cm9 is pretty much customizable in every aspect so the need has gone away, but it didnt seem very useful to me. Concerning the custom boot animations, I heard that a lot of people had been having trouble with them at that in worst case scenarios it even bricked some peoples devices, so i didn't even try going near that.
I'm new to rooting and roms but I have a somewhat dumb question, lol. when a custom rom becomes available for the lg l9 p769 will that change all aspects of the phone? I'm mainly talking about the ridiculous large fonts used by lg. will all fonts be able to be changed globally including font and font size? will everything be completely customizable?
(anybody correct me if I'm wrong) yes it will. But it depends on the ROM if it's a CM it will... If it's stock android it will.... If it's a stock LG... It won't... But as of now it looks like only CM so in short.... Yes...

you're correct but there are only 3 different fonts. what I really wanted to change was the font size, even at 'small' everything is very large so I did some reading and it's actually the lcd density that I want to change? I changed it but it screws things up on the screen.. would that be something I need a custom rom for to change lcd density and everything look okay
You don't need a custom rom to change density, one app to do that is pimp my rom. But it's a dangerous business, make sure to cwm backup everything first.

maybe you didn't read my whole post, I did change the lcd density (with rom toolbox pro) and like I said it screwed things up on the screen, empty spaces and you could see part of the left screen before even scrolling to it. so I guess my question is what would fix those issues? or is it possible that changing the lcd density on my specific device is impossible?
Use pimp my rom and change the density back to 234
That's the original one
pimp my rom is noob proof, you can undo any changes you made.

not trying to be rude but are you even reading what I type? I didn't say I needed to change the density back to original, I already did that and the original setting was 240, not 234. are you saying that pimp my rom will give me different results than rom toolbox pro?
There is no way yet to fix this. Most of the time changing density will d do this and so it's recommended that you not change density.
Actually you will need to change the number to a supported value that is common for android. I forget what most of them are sorry to say but they can be found by a Googling
The app "lcd density" has all the ones that are usable preset. Also you can try a launcher to bring down the size as well
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda premium
there's an app on the market called big font. I use it on my tablet to increase font size, but you can also scale down. haven't tried it yet on P769.
thank you for the information. I've tried using the supported values with no luck, things are still messed up on screen and even put my phone into a bootloop once. I have tried a couple font sizer apps but they do not change the font size globally, some things stay the same like the fonts on the homescreen. it really bothers me that LG's theme or whatever it is looks so plain and almost like an old version of android, when I see ICS running on other phones it's alot different and much better to look at visually. I'm assuming all of these things will be changed when a custom rom is released? I don't know a whole lot about this at the moment but I'm trying to learn..
Hey, how can I have the full screen mode on my CM 10.1?

What are you expecting "full screen mode" to do? I've not heard of it myself, unless you mean "expanded desktop". Please could you elaborate a little?
Personally, I always prefer on AOSP ROMs to lower the DPI to about 240 - 245 to make everything smaller and crisper.

And that's what I want: everything smaller! But I've installed CM and it didn't ask me if I wanted 320 or 240 DPI, and I was looking for a good looking ROM with a great design but I've tried 2 ones and I couldn't send / get messages :\

Well, you can change the DPI manually in build.prop. Or you can install exposed framework and get an app to change it (Per app DPI). If you could elaborate the problem about sending/receiving messages more, then it would be helpful.
Maybe ParanoidAndroid could be the ROM of your choice. PA offers complete or independent DPI settings without big editing like in pure CM10.1.
I personally use pacman ROM and have set via paranoid android settings apps DPI as I like. Some bigger some smaller.
Using an alternative launcher could also be a solution. In Apex you can set how many icons should be displayed in a row and line. This also makes the home screen "smaller"
