Right so now that most SGS2 kernels are using BLN, and that most users want it, it would make sense to enable stock samsung apps to utilise this feature.
SMS
Phone
Now they obviously do not call any lights as Samsung were aware that there was no LED on this phone.
This would need to be hacked probably at the smali level. Does anyone want to give it a go?
Pulser of TeamVillain said he will look into it at some point, but he is rather busy at the moment so I thought I would open up the idea to everyone.
Edit: Ok so apparently phone works, it is just SMS that needs modifying.
SMS and phone are working for me, SMS with stock/go sms and phone with BLN pro so what' s the problem?

Samsung stock sms app and stock phone app do not generate any call for lights therefore BLN does not flash when you get an sms or missed call.
if you use a third party sms app then that will work, but not the stock apps.

Agree, stock SMS doesn't
But phone does blink.
Yes, Phone apk is triggering. Only SMS is not working, but I also like to see modified SMS APK because 3rd party SMS APK do not fit to the design of the Samsung Software. (only my 2 centz)
If you use the tasker app, you can set up notifications of the bln for any notification.
I have set it up for gReader, K-9 mail and a recieved text

In General? Well if it doesn't work for Missed Call notification or SMS then where would it work? I am getting confused here!

android has far more notifications than just missed calls and sms.... most apps generate some form of notification (twitter...email..gmail..g+...facebook etc etc)
they all work in the free version except for Missed calls.
currently Stock Samsung Messaging app does not work at all! but we are trying to fix this.
To obtain led notification for a samsung app you need to do the following:
Locate the place where the notification is instantiated and add the necessary flags to the notification. And secondly you need to locate the place where the screen is turned on, either a full or dimmed wakelock (bad implementation) or a call to setKeepScreenOn() or some parameter in WindowManager.LayoutParams is set.
In the meantime while we wait for TeamVillain to modify the stock messaging app, you can make use of Tasker in combination of BLN pro to activate blinking lights when SMS is received. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203005
I would suggest you read what is posted by the OP and do the profiles manually.
PS. this recommendation is for people who knows what is Tasker, BLN Pro and more importantly, liblights.so.
THIS IS THE CURRENT SITUATION WITH BLN AS OF 2011-08-05:
You need a modified liblights. If you don't know what this is, start using the search function. If you still can't find it after using the search function, you're too stupid to even be attempting any of this, stop immediately or find a custom ROM that provides a modified liblights.
You need a modified kernel.
You need the BLN control application. To get blinking lights or notifications from missed calls in the stock phone app, you need the Pro version.
As mentioned IN THE ORIGINAL POST, the stock SMS app does not trigger BLN by default so you need a third party SMS app such as Handcent, or an app such as Tasker to set it up.
The following will be gibberish designed to make this post show up in most (logical) forum searches for how to get BLN working on the SGS2.
Expected search terms:
I am a giant moron who just cannot figure out how to get BLN working on my SGS2 Samsung Galaxy S II 9100 GT-I9100 BLN kernel how do I make BLN work what is liblights ahh life is so unfair expecting me to figure things out for myself my mummy told me I was a special snowflake that can do anything I set my precious little mind to I am her special soldier and life should just provide everything I want on a plate. BLN. BLN kernel. BLN liblights. BLN SMS. BLN. BLN. BLN.
ithehappy said:
I can't stop laughing. I'd like to know your age anyway . Course I know who you are.
Anyway, as an user I can confirm that BLN DOES NOT work with normal procedure, by that I mean, Flashing a BLN compatible kernel, Flashing Liblights.zip and Enable BLN, it will not work for Missed call, the max you can get is to have the notification under Test Section by pressing Power key.
Now I don't know what is modified kernel, modified liblights and blah blah and I don't wanna know, for a simple user like me, it didn't work, it's as simple as that.
Are we really living in a so smart world? I bet not.
Regards.

Perhaps you missed the plethora of posts that point out that the missed call notification only works with the Pro version or from setting up Tasker. Which is quite amazing since ONE OF THE POSTS INFORMING YOU OF THIS FACT IS THE ONE YOU REPLIED TO.
However, you go right ahead consoling yourself with your assumption that the rest of the world is as bereft of common sense as you are. This is known as making excuses for your own inadequacies and expecting everyone else to come down to your level because you're a self centred moron with a clear and present over inflated sense of self entitlement.
If you don't want to know what a modified kernel and liblights is then may I politely ask, what in the bright luminous blue **** are you doing here on xda-DEVELOPERS? This isn't xda-holdthehandsofmorons nor is it xda-spoonfeedeveryilliteraterejectonearth. It's a site for people to develop for smartphones as part of a development community and for people to learn. As you've just confessed you have no interest in any of this can I point you in the direction of your nearest iphone supplier and give up your Android using spot to someone with an IQ greater than the number of digits on my hands? Thanks.
Oh, incidentally, this thread isn't a HLAP HOW AM MAKE BLN WERK WITH THANGS ON MAI POHNE", it's supposed to be a development discussion about modifying the stock Samsung apps so they work properly. Hence it's in the development section. Any more of this stupid off topic requests for spoon feeding and I'm going to start Reporting every post that isn't anything to do with the topic.
Hey all,
I have cleaned the thread from all the banter back and forth, which ended up de-railing this topic completely. I only left a few posts standing as they both relate to the discussion and address all the questions that were asked before the "cleaning"
Now, back on topic.

Would love this working for other ROMs... I'm using Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3
Hello guys, im the developer of Root Call Blocker, an advanced call and SMS blocking app for rooted phones.
The app's home is here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
We have had multiple reports that blocking is not working sometimes on SE phones, so we need some nice people to do some testing.
You can use the Groups function of the Lite version to do the testing - it gives you almost everything youd want from the app anyway.
Please post comments here, but also use the "Write to us" dialog in settings.
Come on xda people! I really need some feedback please...
Ok. Let's try it. ;-)
Well, when adding phone in black list, Name fild is out of screen. Incoming calls fully blocked, without half ring. I continue testing ...
Sent from my X10mini using Tapatalk
Yep... thats a known issue on very small screens...
I think it was fixed, no?
Enjoy... and remember, an update is always just around the corner!
Could you guys please test the following behavior for me:
1. How the app behaves when a blocked number attempts to connect during call waiting
2. How a blocked caller is handled when "Dont answer" is set as the reject method and you are currently on the phone and have not enabled blocked call vibrate notifications within the app itself
Dont forget to send logs with descriptions as well.
Come on people, i really need some feedback on this!
Nothing to report then?
Nothing here - its working perfectly!
Anyone having trouble at this resolution?
Any problems to report?
Guys hows that dialog scroller?
Guys, an update has been rolled out. It contains an important new workaround thast needs to be tested.
It may help those people who have data issues, especially on LTE enabled phones sometimes.
Please help me test this by installing the app, rebooting and waiting for data to return with the screen on. Please wait 3 minutes at least before sending logs via "Write to developer" in the app.
Dont forget to include a description. Thanks!
Working perfectly for me! Thanks, this is absolutely top class.
Do data issues then?
Any issues to report?
Is anyone seeing an issue with notifications?
Also, do you guys have any problems understanding how to block hidden numbers?
Thanks in advance!
Any issues or suggestions?
let me try it
I just switched from Tmobile (MyTouch 3G Slide) to the Verizon Thunderbolt.
I REALLY REALLY miss the Hand-Free (Texting) ability from the MyTouch...
Is there anyways to get the Hand-Free ported from the MyTouch to the Thunderbolt?
(I tried Vingo, I don't like its. And it didn't seem to Read Incoming SMS)
Just download handcent SMS.

Its not just the lack of HandsFree Texting on the Thunderbolt.. Its the Call Announcing through Bluetooth, and other features within the HandFree app on the myTouch...
I don't want a Third-Party Messaging app, when the one within Android works just fine.

Well Maybe you should be laughing at yourself for being douchie, because the HANDS-FREE Feature from the MyTouch is not built into the SMS App. Its a whole different app. If I'm not mistaken its apart of the Genius Button; Because its Activated by pressing the G-Button>Menu>Hand-Free
So think, then type, then think again before hitting POST
→ Me laughing at myself.
The feature you wanted was specifically built/integrated for the phone in question (through proprietary means) and was not built by HTC. That is why it's not in every HTC phone and why you won't have it on the Thunderbolt without additional software you claim you can't stand.
"Genius" is a custom voice command and text-to-speech system powered by Dragon Dictation technologies. The button replaces, and is in the location of, the Search button previously on the myTouch 3G.

Properly built third party software is as good as anything that comes on the phone or better and has the same means/access to build their apps as the OEM.

Yeah, I mean I don't understand what the OP wants and thus is a pretty useless thread. He knows our phone lacks a certain feature that he seems pretty passionate about having, but yet says the SMS on the phone works fine and does not want a third party alternative (despite the feature on his old phone technically being a third party feature, just one that came with it and porting it would be the same as installing something in the market).
I would recommend using a keyboard that has voice control in it like swype (and there's some others), but I wouldn't to look too "douchie" by recommending third party apps to the OP.
Apparently No one seems to get the Idea here.
I don't want a second SMS Application such as Handset. I never asked for that.
I ASKED FOR the TEXT TO SPEECH application that is built into the MyTouch 3G Slide.
the HandsFree app from the MyTouch 3G support Voice Texting, Voice Calling, etc. When a new SMS Message arrive, the phone Announces the sender, and asked if I would like to read no, or later. Then after the application reads the TEXT, it give the option to REPLY, which can then be done through voice... So Never do you have to touch the phone while driving.
The appication from the MyTouch that handles all that has been the best HandFree application I've seen yet. And I've had nothing but Android phones since the Original G1.
I asked for that one application, because I figured with all the smart people on this site, they might have been able to extract it from the MyTouch at some point. The CM7 for the MyTouch has it. I've tried to look within the zip for the application (apk) that might be responsible for the HANDFREE app, but have yet to locate it.
So in the end, If I wanted to try one of the 30000000000 other SMS/Text Apps out there I would have asked for it. And technically I orginally never asked for a SMS Application. I asked for a HandFree (Speak-to-text, and vis versa)
Well here's my stab at it. Voice Control is proprietary software by Nuance (Dragon Dictation Technologies) meaning even if we did find the apk or were able to port it, it would be considered warez which is against the rules of XDA. All apps by Nuance are paid apps.
Nuance Voice Control Webpage: http://www.press-and-speak.com/PressAndSpeak/2338
Nuance and T-Mobile had an exclusive agreement to implement this software on the myTouch 3G/4G. I'm sure later on other devices will be supported. The only download they have for Android is the flexT9 keyboard for $4.99 . They seem to have all their apps available to the iPhone however.
However when I asked about alternatives, someone recommended Vlingo Virtual Assistant for reading SMS in the Android Market. Not sure if it has the same exact features as Voice Control, however its a close alternative.
EDIT: nevermind noticed you said you tried Vlingo. My bad
Edit 2: I know you said you did not want alternatives but Drivesafe.ly can read txts to you and the pro version let's you respond. I really don't think there are free alternatives for a fully featured app other than Vlingo.

Hey,
I want to use whatsapp on my Galaxy player, but i'm unable to do so. I've downloaded it from the whatsapp site and from 4shared, but when I install the app and try to accept the terms and conditions, the following occurs:
"Unable to identify your device, turn out the batteries and reboot."
"Tablets are currently not supported"
But I don't get it, because my friend has a tablet and he is able to use whatsapp, even though he doesn't have a phone number or a prepaid card in it.
So my question is: Has anyone been able to use Whatsapp on their Galaxy player? And if so, could you please be kind to explain how to do that?
Thanks in advance.
I think you have to have a phone#, unless it will work with a Google Voice#. I can't see paying $2/yr for something you can just use GV for (although it does look like it does a lot more). From their site:
Why do you ask for my phone number?
We ask for your phone number because that is how WhatsApp routes chat messages between you and your contacts, similar to how the regular SMS system would. We value your privacy and we have not, do not and will not ever sell your personal information to anyone. If you would like to learn more about our Privacy Policy, please take a look at our Privacy Notice.
I did find this page that might help you: http://planetlotus.org/profiles/mitch-cohen_96419

I have been investigating this matter and this app has the same problem as the XDA App(free version) and Tap Tap Revenge 4. I have created a hack that makes these apps work and I have released a beta of my next rom "Foreigner R5" that has the patch applied. However, this app will not function on the beta for other reasons. When foreigner R5 moves passed beta, this app will work.

second, i can prove that Viber works on beta R5 so i think half your whatsapp issue is solved, Rapydax. Until R5 comes out, u can use beta R5 with viber - message your buddies and all that + free calls worldwide.
third, google voice isnt available outside US yet.

I was not very clear. Google is going to start charging next year for their calling service, as of now it is free. Whatsapp is only 2 dollars a year, so I am now going to get Whatsapp. I am sure Google will expand to Europe. Just give it time.
not giving "them" time is all this forum is about.
Does Whatsapp let you make/receive calls? I thought it was only texting.
GV has been saying it's going to start charging "next year" for a few years now... if they do I'm sure it will be very cheap, and hopefully they won't start until all the bugs are worked out, and other countries can participate.

I know this might be the wrong question...? So I'm going to start with a simple disclaimer. No fighting or flaming here, I'm asking a serious question.
Here's the deal, I've been an iPhone user for 5 years since the original release in June 2007... I've owned every iPhone... ALL HAVE BEEN IN T-MOBILE USA SO I HAVE BEEN STUCK USING EDGE ON THEM ALL.
I tried another Android phone (LG O3D) before, but couldn't stick with it for some technical reasons... but I'll leave those discussions for the LG area.
So I paid high dollar and got myself a shiny new SGS3 for T-mobile to use my 4G and I did NOT get it on contract discount. So far I like it, its DIFFERENT from iPhone, and I'm missing a few of the jailbreaking tweaks I got used too over the years. And on the flip side, I'm really enjoying some of the cool features Android offer's out of the box.
So, can you guys help me make my GS3 as cool (or COOLER) than my iPhone?
Here's a quick list of a few things I miss on my iPhone (realize most of these are 3rd party apps from Cydia after jailbreaking)
Ringer X (set individual rings for each contact. MMS/SMS/EMAIL/PHONE CALL/ETC... and you can set ignore mute to create a ALWAYS RING WHITE LIST of Family members (for example), very nice.)
Lockscreen info (Shows current email headers, and has the ability to mark each read with a single click, useful for lots of emails, double clicking shows the entire email)
EMAIL IN GENERAL, I have NOT found any email app yet that can handle displaying desktop formatted emails properly for Android - and I can't understand why. Fit to Width seems to be a feature missing from android email apps, and either I'm crazy, or no one on Android has seen a fit to screen or fit to width email you can ZOOM in to and read the details on. VERY STRANGE TO ME.
There are a few apps that are cross platform that just work different on iPhone vs Android, and I liked the way they worked on iPhone so to me they seem "wrong" on android (not saying they are, just saying I'm not used to the way they work on this platform vs the other one) A good example is my security camera video program. Same app, same distributor, but the iPhone version has (for example) when you launch it - it takes you straight to the live view mode so you can see your cameras.. the android version doesn't have this ability - it wants me to navigate thru the menu's to click on LIVE VIEW, and then it doesn't retain the 4-way camera position everytime. Again, it just works DIFFERENT.
My car alarm app, on Android seems to crash 50% of the time while loading. This has been really annoying, especially as I walk thru the mall trying to start my car remotely. By the time I realize the app crashed, have to clear it from ram, re-launch wait again, well... you get it..frustration.
I'm really trying and wanting to LOVE Android - seriously. But obviously I need some guidance and maybe be shown the coolness of android over iphone... realize that after 5 years on iPhone, and having gone thru EVERY version of iOS since v 1.01 (or v1.02, I can't remember) I'm very familiar and comfortable with iOS - but by that same token, I'm bored too... I want something new and cool.
HELP ME PLEASE.
Many thanks in Advance.
I was a long time iOS user too (started with 1.0.3 in September 2007), I changed to Android about one year and a half now and nowadays I really prefer Android phones, Android has some really nice features. I can't help you with all the questions but I will try.
First of all, are you using the TouchWiz or have you tried other roms? TW has nice features but I really prefer a purer Android experience. With other roms you'll have freedom to personalize and change whatever you want on your phone, in my opinion this is one of the coolest things on Android. I believe CM9 (CyanogenMod9) is a good rom, but there are many other great roms available. If you want to try other roms you can look for it on the Development forums, and you can return to Samsung official rom when you want to.
1. To select specific ringtones you should look for your contact (People or dialer app), when you open it press the menu button and you'll see the option "Set ringtone".
2. I don't know any app to replace the 'lockscreen info', I believe something similar is coming to Android Jellybean, but you could use any app like 'Widget Locker' and use GMail widgets by now, it's not the same but should work.
For me the best email app ever is GMail... I got your point but I've never had any problems with it. I don't use any security camera or car alarm app on my Android phones, so I can't help you with this too, but there's a feature available on some roms (like AOKP) that should help you with this car alarm problem it's the 'hold back to kill' option, you just hold the back button and it instantly kills the crashed app. Although you can always long press the home button to see recent apps and then slide the crashed rom, it should kill the app from ram quickly.
If I remember any better options for this problems I will reply here, but I hope it helps you enjoy your new Galaxy SIII.

You can configure tasker and minimalistic text to display unread emails, missed texts, missed calls etc. Tasker is a little expensive if you're just looking for and widget with the number of unread emails since there are a ton of dedicated widgets for that, but tasker is a lot more flexible and you can configure it to do a lot of other things too like nfc actions.
Not sure if you've looked into these email apps...I don't use them but hear about their popularity. K-9 and Kaiten.

Well I'm not as knowledgeable as most of these guys when it comes to ask this android but I too just came over from a jail broken iPhone. But I've been using android like a mistress for over a year and came up with a few things:
Executive assistant is the closest app I found to replace Lock Info. But I don't use it anymore since I can drop down NC from lock screen to see what I missed. Gmail calendars can text you alerts.
Missed It allows you to create some pretty cool notifications in your launcher.
Prefixer allows you to alter your number dialed with default dialer. Works great for auto area codes or extended speed dial numbers...
I switch between Swype and Swift key
Good luck!

Pretty much all the "cool" features are in stock android. Edit contact with any ringtone should do it. Switch out the contact icon on the bottom (don't need it you can see contacts in the green phone icon)with gmail and It will be on your lock screen. This device is still pretty new so some of the app delvs need to catch up. Once you learn your way around Android you 'll see that JBing is nothing more than a theme in Android.
Have fun learning

as far as the ringtone thing, what I'm taking about specifically is with a jail break app called ringer x I am able to set ringtones for a contact call, sms, email. 3 unique tones for 3 unique actions from the same contact.
Plus you can tell it ignore mute, and no matter what your ringer setting is, it will make noise (ring) at the volume you set in the contact. It's pretty great, especially for those of us with kids.
And I agree android is a learning curve.

Pull the phone out of the box. Now it is already cooler than an iPhone.

Yeah hold the phone near mouth and say IGNORE or put the phone face down when ringing or pull up the curtain and select a ignore text reply.

Lol. Out of box, the S3 is already cooler than any iPhone. Any attempt at making it 'better' is just an extra plus
