I was wondering if the juice defender app turns off your data when your screen is off?
Thanks
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III using Tapatalk 2
No need to turn data off, just install AOSP Helper if you're rooted and let it fall back to 2G whenever the phone is idle.
That will save your battery while still having you synced and connected.
I don't really know how to root my phone. I am also don't know the answer benefits of doing it.

try starting with the Guide .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III/GT-I9300
Benefits of root is it gives user a deeper level of system access allowing more tasks to be carried out and more useful apps installed . It of course voids warranty unless cleared from phone .

Try a factory reset. This helped my s2 when it bogged down.

I wanted to try and avoid doing this though.. Wish I can figure it out.

Start with the obvious... Check what's running in the settings menu... Anything unusual chewing up battery time?
Recently installed apps?
I has this issue after flashing back to stock and a factory reset made all ok.

Bro - the factory reset is ur friend if done right. And the only really important thing is to just backup ur personal data.
Esp if ur running stock, a factory reset will do the trick.
If u want the longer route, download some tools (tibu, setcpu, es fm/tm...) and try and diagnose where the bottleneck is coming from.

Powersaver mode will also cause it to lagg real bad. I only use power saver when I am out or worried about juice, but now I carry a spare battery and never use it.
Hi Folks,
I have a MK802 Android PC dongle on its way. It has no on/off switch so powers up when it is given juice and is shut down by pulling the cable. This is the same as pulling the battery and is a pretty violent way of doing it.
Is there an app available that does a gentle shutdown and allows Android to clean up before it goes?
If not, would someone like to write one?
BTW, apparently the device comes already rooted.
Many thanks.

i remember a app wich is dealing ur issue but u told us its rooted so why dont u go into a terminal emulator app and shut it down there?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5ncnJtb2RlLnF1aWNrc2h1dGRvd24iXQ..
I could but the MK802 is going to be connected to our main TV and my wife is going to be using it too - do I have to say more?
I just need something quick, easy and idiot/blonde proof.
Thanks!

I thought it was related to root but I've had these hot reboots even before rooting so it's not just root. Most likely an app.

Will take a while to hunt down the app but anybody else have 'LinkedIn' app installed? It just hot rebooted while launching that app from a fresh restart - quickest hot reboot I've ever seen.
It might not be that app but then I went to the Play Store page and there are tons of 1 star reviews because the last update failed on people's phones - more interestingly the most recent comment is from a GS2 user who says latest update reboots his phone.
I've uninstalled it and I doubt I can be that lucky that it's that app and I find it so quickly but crossing my fingers.
Mine rebooted after I opened the Navigation app.

Mine happened again. I've now uninstalled BetterBatteryStats. I'm going to start uninstalling stuff that uses root to roll that out. I've had these issues on stock but it happened rarely, lately it's been happening very frequently so something is going on.

Well I'm tired of the random hot reboots! Some people say it happened to them before rooting, but I don't believe it happened to me until I rooted and installed CWM touch......so I'm going back to stock to start all over again so I can try to narrow down the issue. I'll report back on my progress as it becomes available.

Happening often to me. The search continues. I've now uninstalled adfree. I'm positive this is an app since I had it occur on stock after two weeks of using the phone and installing crap.

I had the same problem on my previous Captivate and am having it now on the GS III; no rhyme or reason to the reboots that I can see.
I still have heat problem but I played w/ different settings to see what it is.... I had att s3 which got really really hot... So returned it for Verizon s3. Verizon is better but learned that the data (lte/s3) makes it really hot and battery drain. Also the screen, of course.
If you're rooted then go get Phone info and disable lte. I tried CDMA auto for Verizon and it got much better... But at lowered download speed. I change it when I speed the speed... Doesn't require reboot so it's easy to change.
U can also under clock using setCPU.
I don't need it to be fast normally except when playing games... So just have it at 384min and 1024max... I find this helps allot w/ heat as well... U can try and find your setting that's acceptable speed and heat.
Just sharing my experience here.... So good luck.

Happens here too with the T-Mobile GS3. I think they rushed their fabrication process to deliver a high volume and fubared a few hardwarewise. I've even had it lockup/freeze once when not even in the OS but just in the recovery menu's. But yeah, the usual is a totally random unpredictable hot reboot throwing out my resident programs, homescreen, ect. Starts with the screen being frozen and not accepting input, then a short vibration, then back to homescreen reloading and all regular apps and widges that are supposed to run at boot load again. It's as if there's a micro static short or something. Anyway, I'm sick of problem solving and looking through logcats. Going back in for warranty. This is a dream phone except for this ultra annoying bug that it seems not many people have.

Happened to me once or twice (that I noticed) in the two weeks before I rooted (stock UCALEM), and a few more times after. It's just TouchPiz being pizzy. Maybe someone can catch the logcat, but there's nothing we can do about it (except install a better ROM )
How would anyone be able to diagnose this BS
"OK. My phone is hot. And it randomly reboots".
"Crap - u r out of luck buddy. Go change ur damn phone".
Provide ur phone model, ROM version, apps installed. Check ur battery stats.
As a solution - flash any custom ROM which removes bloatware.

Yes, if you had turned on the built in feature or had third party tracking software.

Sad to hear. But, anyway to prevent this? Any special app that functions like FindMyiPhone that works on S3? So we can track it if it is lost.
I use phonelocator pro, think you can get a free trial

Pretty techy robber then, don't you think so? I doubt he'd have Odin set up at his house to flash ROMs on stolen phones. He'd need to have downloaded many ROMs, unless he planned to rob all S3s.
No, joking aside, he probably will factory reset. In that case, if the tracking app was installed as a system app, it will remain there (I believe Cerberus has that feature), or else you'd have yo give your serial number to the police to track it. Sorry for the loss though. Damn these robbers!

Androidlost.com is a working app, you can install iteven if the device is already lost, but it needs to be connected to the internet, your Google account and must be able to receive SMS.

For androidlost to work the app has to be open once after you installed it

As people have said Samsung dive (if you set it up on your phone) will allow you to lock the phone making it useless to a robber, also you can track it through GPS. And if there is no chance of getting the phone back remotely wipe your phone, so personal details are safe.
I don't know if it can turn GPS on remotely though, some third party security apps like lookout will turn GPS on remotely as well, you can then work with the police, if they want even give them login details so they can track it without you.
Another option is contact your network to get the imei blacklisted.

I would love root on this phone for a lot of reasons and I hope soon but **** it out, but if not, it happens, my turbo never got a proper root and 1/2 root cost $20. This device is pretty snazzy stock, but it would fly rooted

Agreed. I believe that the OEM unlock option in the developer options could make rooting possible on this device, but with KNOX, I'm not sure if there would be a way to root, even with OEM unlock on...
