[Q] my newly updated (Tango) Lumia 800 is missing those new features - Nokia Lumia 800

I updated my Lumia 800 to Tango with Cab Update method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737907
Firmware revision number: 1750.0805.8773.12220
I do have Internet Sharing in Settings, but it doesn't really work.
I turn it on and try to share my 3G network, I can even successfully use my iPod Touch to connect to the share network, however, I can not access the internet on my iPod Touch in actual.
I believe that my carrier is not blocking internet sharing, because I can use my old phone to create a hotspot without any issues.
I tested the Internet Sharing function again, it works now. But the network speed is unreasonably slow.
The Contact Share feature is not visible.
Flip-to-silence is working.
Is it because the current firmware is not stable?
Or is this update not suitable for my device?
Nokia Care Suite recognize the product code of my device as 059M658. BTW, Which firmware should I use to flash back, if I want to?
Many Thanks

Can't share contacts either, but my Internet Sharing is working. I can visit google and search with my MacBook connected to my Lumia 800 Hotspot.
How did you active flip to silent? I can't find it...

I don't know how to active flip-to-silent. I guess this is set by default. I just flipped it, then it switched to silence mode.

Contact Share will be an App available later in Nokia Collection.
You can flash any firmware you want as along as it's made for the same model (i.e. RM-801)

It just works automatically for incoming calls. The ringtone gets muted when the phone is flipped, however it still vibrates.
If you use the old trick with pushing any volume button - both the ringing and vibrating get muted.

Any chance to disable it? I accidentally muted my phone 2-3 times now at work :/

you need the nokia oem update. ICS and the other stuff isn't a part of tango! the nokia firmware update unlocks all those features. if you have a RM-801 device, you can find the link to the nokia OEM update here on XDA.

where did you buy it? in europe there is only the rm-801. what's your product code? it is printed on the sim-card holder. something like "059...." you can also find the rm-801 sticker on the lumia package. if it is a rm-819 device (USA/Asia), then it should say rm-819

Well probably the same way I do You just take your phone out of your pocket and don't really care which way it is around, then put it down. I've done it many times.
I suppose if people are at work and do it they obviously don't want to answer their phone

Lumia 920 Internet Sharing, evidence of ROM tampering from Rogers?

I originally posted this to WPcentral but no one seems to care... I find it quite compelling and I thought I'd share...
I have read a lot of different forums that The Lumia 920 from Roger has a hard time working with other carriers when unlocked. Specifically, internet Sharing seems to be broken.
Some have speculated that the phone is supposed to "detect" or "read" the settings right off the sim card but all the Rogers phone owner have reported that this is not happening.
I like evidence, not speculation. So I went ahead and downloaded the RM820_1232.2109.1242.1002_RETAIL_nam_canada_200_02_100347_prd_signed ROM off nokia's web site using NaviFirm+ 1.7. then I hex-edited the rom itself...
Boy is that stuff interesting. I found a section written in XML called "OEMCustomizationPackage". That sounded too good to be true... so I dug up the xml and found a bunch of interesting settings like custom ring tones, initial tile placement BUT...
I also found this...
<Component ComponentName="ConnectivityCustomizations">
<SettingsGroup>
<Setting Name="ADC path set" Value=""/>
<Setting Name="ADC enabled" Value="0"/>
</SettingsGroup>
Call me crazy but ADC in WP8 parlance stands for "automatic data configuration" and unless I'm dumb as a rock, the setting sure seems to me like it's disabled!!!
Now of course If only there was another line that said <Modified by your carrier to make your life miserable = 1> but sadly there aren't.
So it begs the question... was the setting disabled by Nokia?, Rogers? or worst... Microsoft?
I don't expect I'll have an answer to this but I have a support call in with Nokia that got bumped to Level 2 support... the conversation will get interesting
[Update]
I looked at the OEMCustomizationPackage XML for the ATT firmware and ADC is disabled (tested on RM820_1232.2109.1242.1001_RETAIL_nam_usa_100_01_95122)
did the same for a random European firmware... settled on the France firmware (RM821_1232.2109.1242.1001_RETAIL_eu_france_267_01_95741 ) and the setting is NOT IN the OEMCustomizationPackage XML
Now I'm not gonna waste any more bandwidth testing other firmwares but this is evidence enough to prove there was a deliberate effort to cripple the North American firmware by ATT and Rogers. I cannot wait to talk to the support rep from Nokia and hear what he has to say... Best case scenario, they let me have a generic Firmware and I'm home free... but most likely, they'll release an app just like they did with the lumia 900. It was called "Nokia Network setup"
[Update]
Hmmm, that's an interesting find! Keep us updated if Nokia comes back to you with anything.
I’m stuck over in the UAE right now. I have a brand new 920 from AT&T that I can’t use because no one can sim unlock them yet. Would it be possible to flash this thing with another ROM and get it sim unlocked so I can use it over here?
Thanks,
Dave
I remember buying the samsung focus and windows breaking the device to change registry settings. This was the same issue that the Focus had...unfortunately i don't remember the explaination that was given but it was Samsung saying that automatic data configuration, for whatever reason, frequently configured the device wrong or just wouldn't work so they disabled the setting. I think it a BS excuse considering they have the registry entry why would you disable it and why wouldn't it work in the first place....just my 2 cents. But, I don't believe it too much to be a conspiracy theory going on lol.
Flashing ROMs normally does not change the status of the SIM lock, so no for you over at UAE.
Considering the OEM customizations: yes, branded phones run the same software as unbranded devices but there might be settings to allow or disallow certain functionality. Also the Apps loaded by default on a hard reset are different (OEM Apps can be included).
So while the update package to get your 920 and my 920 to the Apollo+/Portico Update most likely will include the same binaries that does not mean that you have the same functionality available (some carriers who only operate on 3G for example removed the possibility to switch their devices into 2G only mode). Internet Connection Sharing was another feature that was disabled on some branded devices although drivers, etc. are deployed onto those devices as well.

Thank you!
most carrier branded wp phones have adc turned off since wp7 days. That is nothing new and certainly expected. typically, you can turn it back on once you sim unlocked your phone and you are lucky enough to find network setup app from the manufacturer,
The network setting app is here!!
As an update to my adventures, I did find the Nokia network setup app... it's called "access point". I tried to do a marketplace search but no results... but a guy over at WPCentral just dropped the marketplace link
I'm apparently too new to post outside links so PM me and I'll get you the link...
I just browsed to the link on my phone and was able to install the app. It add an "access point" item to the setting menu just like the Dev ATT phone they handed out prior to launch
My phone is still locked to Rogers so I have no idea if the app will help me overcome the tethering issues once I get there. on Dec 19th my "30 days on contract" are up so the nasty Rogers people will run out of excuse to deny my unlocking so I'll buy the thing and get as far away from this carrier as I can and hopefully I can get functional Internet Sharing going.
To any Canadian who's lucky to have an unlocked 920 with internet tethering problems... can you confirm this is working?
Thanks.

Wow great news !! Can you confirm a few things for me...
1- Can you confirm you are getting stable and long lasting internet sharing... a lot of people report success but then they write back to report that is stops working...
2- What is your batch number? (mine is 44/2012 it's in the sticker on your box where the IMEI number is )
3- What firmware are you running? (mine is 1232.2109.1242.1001)
4- Did you get the phone unlocked by Rogers or a web site?
Thanks for the feedback! I too want to switch to Telus but with so many users reporting problems with internet sharing, I was getting desperate.

the telus apn i ve already typed into, and i didnt change it. The only thing i open access point, and choose TELUS active, then i got consistent internet sharing, no problem .
Great find! I can confirm this is working on my unlocked Rogers 920 on Bell. I downloaded the app and selected the Bell profile, and changed my apn under cellular to inet.bell.ca. Turned on tethering and worked right away. Thanks again for posting this!
Service: Telus
Unlocked by: Cellunlocker.net
Firmware: .1002
Manufacture week: 46
I had set APN to regular sp.telus.com and set access to point Telus. That didn't work.
Just for the hell of it I switched the manual APN entry to isp.telus.com and switched the access point to Koodoo and back to Telus to force it to refresh.
I was able to turn on tethering but I lost data. So it's basically same behavior as before.
Hopefully I can get tethering to work. I'm jealous some of you are getting it to work and I don't :S

I created this account just to say thank you! This internet sharing issue has been bugging me for weeks. I can confirm it's working on an unlocked rogers Nokia 920 on Wind. Internet Sharing on unlocked AT&T Lumia 920?

Hi guys.
I just unlocked my AT&T Lumia 920, but the Internet Sharing feature doesn't work. It says I need the tethering enabled on AT&T. Is there anyway around this to get it enabled? I'm obviously not using an AT&T SIM.
Thanks
Unfortunately NO.

Unfortunately, NO. I think this is built into the ROM. You might have to Flash one of those European ROMs to have it enabled.
Thats what I did.

Looks like the color doesn't matter. I confirmed with NaviFirm that different color firmwares share the same .ffu. And I've seen numerous reports when people flashed non-ATT firmware into Cyan ATT phone and didn't have any issues.
---------- Post added at 07:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:18 PM ----------
I've installed Rogers pre-Portico firmware on my ATT Lumia 920 (RM820_1232.2109.1242.1002_RETAIL_nam_canada_200_02_100347_prd_signed.ffu), installed Access Point app, and Internet Sharing was working just fine (I'm on Telus, Canada). But overnight the phone installed all the latest updates (currently on 1232.5957.1308.0000) and Internet Sharing is no longer working. When I go to Access Point app and try selecting one of the two default profiles (Telus and Koodo), it immediately exits the app and shows all profiles as inactive. If I manually enter profile settings, I'm able to select it, but it still doesn't seem to work - when I go to Internet Sharing and try enabling it, I get "Internet Sharing isn't currently available" error.
Does anyone know how to work around this?
Ok, I seem to have been able to get Internet Sharing back on. I had to hard reset the phone (through About->Reset option). After that I installed the Access Point app again and everything seems to be working. Apparently updates somehow mess up Access Point app.
Now I need to figure out how to get LTE to work on Telus and possibly get the phone working on Wind/Mobilicity...

Just remember that with gophone your data is not unlimited. You either have 2GB or 5GB a month. I forget which as I think gophone will actually make you pay more then an outright contract in the long run. I want to say it is a 2GB limit. So even if you do have LTE you can't use more than 2GB a month. If you do they hit you for 10 bucks a GB you go over. Or on gophone they may just cut off your data till it renews next month.
Effective June 21st, the only data add-on package available for the $50 and $25 plans will be the $5 for 50MB. The $65 monthly plan will be able to add $10 for 1GB. A total of 3 Gigs can be stacked onto that plan within a month.

I flashed my unlocked AT&T Lumia 920 to Euro Dev (RM821_059R4H6_1232.5957.1308.0002_027) and was able to enable Internet Sharing feature. I am on AT&T GoPhone and selected an APN named "AT&T 3G", which is built in the SIM card, from Access Point app. I am not sure what the exact setting is.

Are you able to flash back to the AT&T firmware from that if needed?

Ok, I seem to have been able to get Internet Sharing back on. I had to hard reset the phone (through About->Reset option). After that I installed the Access Point app again and everything seems to be working. Apparently updates somehow mess up Access Point app.
Now I need to figure out how to get LTE to work on Telus and possibly get the phone working on Wind/Mobilicity...

a little late to your party but i saw other threads
1) Go to Settings
2) Go to Keyboard
3) + Add Keyboards
4) Select Spanish (Spain) (or any other language)
5) Click on the checkmark icon to install.
Try it may be it works for you to start Internet Sharing

I Did Possibly A Really Dumb thing..

Hello,
Ok first I want to apologize because I should know better than to randomly flash roms to my phone. I have the bad habit or trying things and seeing how they work out. So I did just that and want to ask you guys ( and gals) that know way better then I.
Long story short I have a White Lumia 920 From Rogers ( code 059R6P3 ) and I sim unlocked it to be used on Bell here in Canada. I hated seeing the "Rogers" Boot up every time I restated the phone ( I am just crazy that way ). So I was playing around with NaviFirm+ and Nokia Care and I found the ROM for the At&t Developer phone. My girlfriend has the developer version of the Lumia 820 and I was able to update that to the newest versions of the software and well I was jealous of her having the newer features.
So I flashed the At&t developer rom ( Code 059R2L5 ) to my phone. Seems to have worked fine for me. Boot animation is gone, connected to bell right away no problems, mms and internet sharing working fine. All the amber stuff is working fine for me. It even looks like LTE is working however it no longer says LTE in the indicator bar I get just an "L" or "H" or "H+" . I am assuming that H=HSPA , H+=HSPA+ and "L= LTE" but I wanted to check with you guys if this is normal.
I have been reading online how people want their unlocked Lumia's to be able to be unbranded and have internet sharing working and I seem to have exactly that. Can anyone tell me a downside of what I have done? Have I missed something that anyone but a total N00B would see?
Thanks for your understanding. I really must stop this flash first and see stuff I do.

Hi,
Yes you're right L = LTE H+= HSPA+ and etc..
I have AT&T black and hate the original ROM, so I switch to Dev version and I see the same behaviour.
You didn't do anything stupid
Not stupid at all, its normal ...
You bought a device n you became its master ...
You may do everything with your device ...
Cheers

I have a dumb one or two
1. How did you do it? Can you direct me to the right direction? download and flash?
2. Can you revert it back to original if needed for warranty purpose?
I know how to flash new firmware but can't download and don't know how to change product code so it can accept new firmware
Thanks

Hi,
Read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112674
but pay attention that it's stated that you probably won't able to get back to AT&T stock... i never tried anyway, I live in Europe and AT&T warranty is not useful for me
From below link I got the product code of Dev AT&T device. 059R2L5 RM-820 AT&T DEVELOPER DEVICE BLK

Unfortunately not , 3 UK, still on 108.
Yeah, I have it. Vodafone UK
EE still sits on 108
Yeh got it here on Vodafone.
So by the looks of it Vodafone are the 1st in UK.
AI filters are now in Video settings. Not many other changes as far as I can see.
Will keep poking around to see if there are any other changes.
tell me, why should it be provider related?
as i understand (coming from OP6, so maybe i missunderstand) the normal firmware will be updated, no matter what provider information you have, as it comes with da different kind of "firmware" package? so everybody should (in a perfect world) get it as fast as the others?

Has it solved the popping/crackle out of the bottom speaker some of us are experiencing when starting auto videos in social media?
So far, I can't replicate the crackling noise anymore after update so looking positive

There's the Manufacturer provided firmware (which would be nice to have) and then there's the Carrier provided version with their own "tweaks" in.
The manufacturer (in this case Huawei) will supply it to the Carriers who then add on their own customisations.
It's not unusual

There was popping sound when I started and closed apps like Clash Royale and YouTube but this is gone after 122 update.
What I'd love to know is if this new firmware (122) makes third party launchers much more compatible. Anyone, please?
Sounds like we should get some Sim cards for the fastest carrier update. If a phone is sold sim free it shouldn't have any kind of carrier tweaks
So I brought my phone from 3. But I have a Vodafone and EE SIM in it. Never put a three sim in it. Am I still reliant on three for updates?

Manually enabling Dual Sim using tasker or programatically?

I have an unlocked UK find X2 pro and I don't feel like going through the switching region process just to enable the dual sim. I already purchased a dual sim tray for this.
So I found this old reddit to enable this manually for a Samsung phone using tasker:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/b0a1o5
Now I would the need the help of someone with a dual sim OPPO phone (probably better if its a X2 Pro) and monitoring enabling the second sim with adb shell settings list system
Any volunteer?
This probably worked on older android and is samsung specific. Chances of this working are really low but I guess someone could give it a try.
But, I did notice if you unlock your phone using the method in "Change region" thread instead of actually changing your region try typing "*#*#4636#*#*", go into "Phone Information" and see if you can toggle "Enable DSDS"

All models of the X2 Pro are dual SIM. Just the functionality has been disabled by Oppo in the EU because of GDPR.

I know, thats why Im trying to find out how to enable it manually, like using the tasker, or maybe creating an app (I already created a few android apps in the past, so I could try myself if someone gives me a hint)

That's after unlocking the phone with the "Sec5.exe" way from the "Change region.." thread right? Not talking about SIM unlocked(international) phones.
The change happens after you select another region not after you unlock the phone using this method so if you wanna keep everything the same you just unlock it without switching to Singapore.
Oh I didnt know there were 2 types of unlocking. My phone is SIM unlocked yes I bought it from an official UK retailer directly.
Would this void the warranty?

You should probably read through the other threads here. We don't know but we speculate it doesn't as it's using oppos own tools to flash official roms.
I see thanks, I dont know if I want to take the risk so Ill try to do it without that unlocking method for now.
Few android development things that I found that could be tried:
Android DualSim, ways/task/api to turn off second sim every day at same hour
Im using my phone for personal/work lines using dualsim (right now Xiaomi Mi5) with Android 7. Im looking for a way to use my work line (2nd sim) to gets turned on at 6am and gets off at 22.00 pm f...

Thats what I also like to know?
How can the very same phone have some problems with GDPR in the EU but not anywhere else in the world, while the GDPR does not only apply in the EU.
Any official statements?

Has anyone seen a known way how to downgrade from colorOS 11 to 7.1? I would be more than happy to try it out, and get my phone to work with 2 SIM cards.

Service center. It's free. For the uk phone, pls let them select non-europen model to downgrade.

The problem is, I am not in the UK, I ordered the phone from the UK, but in my country, we don't have an OPPO service center.. :/ So that's why I am asking for a self-service way to do it. I have installed custom ROMs to phones before, I quite know how to do things here and there.
@AnthonyMkD even if there are no actual Oppo Service centers where you live there probably are some sort of service providers/companies which act as Oppo's official service partners and do all the repairs for them. They should be able to do that. It's the same where I live.

The nearest partner centre with OPPO is 1200+km away! Hahahahaha, damn this is gonna be fun... I really wanted the dual SIM enabled so bad. Now I will have to carry 2 phones with me
