How to use ext sdcard problems with aps2sd - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Good morning,
I have a few questions and also ran into a few problems. I have an ext sdcard 32gb I can't remove apps over to it I can move over music but not apps. Also if I use the aps2sd program to transfer the aps over to the 9gb of internal memory my phone runs like crap after wards for instance it takes sense almost 30 seconds to restart if I transfer all the apps back to phone it works good. Any suggestions

If you have root or an unlocked bootloader, you can swap the mount points.
Racer Of All said:
Q: Is there a way to move application data (such as huge game files) to the SD Card instead of the phone storage?
A: YES! But either root or HTCDev Unlock is required. The simplest method is the one maxdamage2122 posted. It's a simple zip file you flash and swaps your mount points around (sdcard becomes your external card and sdcard2 becomes your internal phone storage) you can find his thread here. If you don't have HTCDev unlock but do have root filmaker made a how-to guide to do the same thing here

You have to download link2sd and go to settings and set install location to external. It works just like adb shell

Download and install titanium backup pro from anywhere you like. Open the program and click on the options button of your phone and click on batch. You'll see a number of operations followed by a run button after each one. Scroll down and you'll see "move all user apps to SD card", click on run and you are done

Without partitioning the SD card, you will always have part of the apps on internal. With partitioning the SD card, you can move the entire apps to SD card.
I just went to gplay (marketplace) and got app2sd. Whether the phone is rooted or not you should be able to move the apps to the sdcard-ext, as long as there is enough room.

Yeah it helps in moving some apps to sd but it doesnt allows you to move all the app to sd. you may need to root you phone in order to move all apps to sd. when i used to use app2sd when i just started using android i used to have around 40 mb internal memory free inspite of moving all the apps that were possible to move on an unrooted phone to sd. I was then inspired to root my phone when i saw its possibilities

How can i make an ext part on my SDcard ???
I am using link2sd and it works like a charm. I have not partitioned my sd card.
TRY THIS
If u have lucky patcher installed on ur device, the version should be 3.9.3, first of all, move ur app or game's data (the very known com.xyz.xxxxx folder) to extsd/android/data or obb by using filemanager , now create that folder with a same name in sdcard or internal sd/android/data or obb/here, which would be like com.xyz.xxxxxx, open lucky patcher v3.9.3 goto toolbox tap directory binder, remember it will not bind the whole sdcard or internal sd , it will work only for particular directory (folder), so no need to worry, now tap on add new directory bind, no tap browse the 1st one, and show it to the path of that extsd/android/data/com.xyz.xxxx folder after that select current directory, now go for browse the 2nd one, goto the internal path should be like sdcard/android/data or obb/com.xyz.xxxx select current directory, now tap on bind directory. thats it, it will save ur sdcrd space. u can check it by setting then storage, i successfully did it in my funbook infinity having 1.5gb internal space available, plays the amazing Spider-Man2 , the dark knight rises, and dead trigger.
I have a rooted but otherwise stock Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (SM-T705) and I have a 128GB Sandisk SD card. Is it possible to move all apps (with all their contents) to the SD card? I read that even though my device is rooted, I will need to partition my SD card first before i can move all apps (with all their contents) to the SD card? Can someone please tell me how to partition my SD card? Also, if I move all apps with all their contents to SD card, would the running of such apps encounter any problems (as part of them are supposed to be in the device internal memory?)
I tried Link2 SD and Titanium Backup Pro but I could not see any such function (only native Android app2sd).
Thank you very much in advance.

[Q] [HELP] How to use external memory for app instalation??

Hi,
how to use the external memory for instalation of app and games?
I have Micro SD 64GB, and my Galaxy S III don't install nothing in there.
I try app2SD, Link2SD, and the ADB "setInstallLocation"...
Please help me!
Sorry my english. Thank you for help.
S3 is designed to treat the memory as one unit, when internal is full it will start to use external.

I tried as many methods as i could find and the only thing i succeeded in was breaking the Play Store through something i did, so be careful.

Are you sure? The last time my internal SD card was full and the phone was not installing the apps stating that the device is low on the memory. If it is designed to be able to use internal first and external afterwards then why it did not use it in may case. Is there any setting or anything to turn on this feature?
It's how the nexus works and how the s3 works.

Root and use DirectoryBind.
It's more technical, but it gets most of the job done, especially those huge games from Gameloft.
So before I try another method and possibly break something else does anyone know if Directory Bind actually works?
You have 16 of storage on the phone itself. Why would you need to move apps to the SD card anymore? I could see back in the days when you only had 1GB or less, but now there really is no need for it.

Free up some space (move a Gameloft game folder from /sdcard/Android/data/ to /mnt/extSdCard/Android/data), install Directory Bind, then use it to bind both folders.

If you're rooted, run the following on Terminal Emulator
(you may want to reate a GScript link and e.g. an autostart entry so that it's easier to use)
Preparation:
* Terminate the app
* Copy/move the folder you want to transfer from the internal to the external SD
* Create a new folder on the internal SD with exactly the same name
Execution (run in Terminal Emulator / GScript)
Code:
mount -o bind /mnt/extSdCard/YOURFOLDER /mnt/sdcard/YOURFOLDER
Note: This does not survive reboots, you'll need to execute or automatically execute the 'Execution' part on each boot.
This setup can be repeated endlessly for all folders you want.

[Q] SD card scanning time

How long does your phone take to do error scans and media scans with a 32GB class 10 SD card?
Mine takes at least 15 mins! Seems really slow! And it drains my battery a lot while doing it.
Sent from my LG-P768 using xda app-developers app
It depends on how much you have on your SD card and the SD card speed.
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda app-developers app
I gathered that, I just wondered if mine was unusually slow?
Sent from my LG-P768 using xda app-developers app
Use the rom toolbox lite (or pro) and under performance tab use the SD Booster , and set to 2048kb, this might help a little. App found in market.
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda app-developers app
Your card may be failing. My wifes has been failing for months and it takes a long time to finish scanning. Mine is failing now too.
Word of warning. Do not buy this card:

How dissabled sdcard media scan?
Okay, now I'm worried, turns out its not the SD card, it's the internal storage. I have removed the SD card and since rebooting, its taken about 20 mins to scan the internal storage and the phone has been pretty hot while doing this. What could be wrong? I hope this phone isn't failing!
Sent from my LG-P768 using xda app-developers app
Try to remove all personal stuff and backup your apps and try a hard resets.DON'T DO A HARD RESET IF YOU REMOVED ANY BLOTWARE! First restore all system apps you may have removed, hopefully formatting the internal storage will fix it.
Another thing (Not sure if it's default have to recheck, or someone verify) I noticed that the kernel has vm swappiness set at 60%. This could be a reason for the internal sd going out. Maybe I'm wrong hum

Media scan dissabling
Open terminal emulator or run adb shell, then type:
Code:
1. su
2. pm disable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver
then exit terminal emulator/adb shell
After that, boot into CWM and 'fix permissions'
Root and CWM needed

Disabling this doesn't have any long term negative effects on the phone and or performance does it? Did this to my L9 along with the internal to external SD swap flash and phone seems to be working better Boot up times are much shorter and smooth.
sounds great! I didn't do that but I did overclock and undervolt my phone. Then with partitioning my sd card I use link2sd was able to move apps to sd. Then used Titanium Backup to delete bloatware. Phone is faster, smooth, and crisp when moving thru apps. Overclocked to 1.2!

I have mi L9 for a few months and first the scanning was fast, but after I reached the capacity limit it started to take a lot of time to scan, so I think it's normal if you have a lot of apps installed like i do xD

Hi Nathan,
You seem to have successfully apply some mods on your P769. Can you help me do that with my P769 on V20D if you have on the same stock ROM.
I was trying to overclock and undervolt it and I was getting a Exec format error running the overclock script that I found on another thread. That is after copying the .ko files in /system/lib/modules.
If you are on V20D can you provide some instructions and where you got the script? Would greatly appreciate it.
I wanted to see if there would be improvement xbmc on it once i overclocked it to 1.2. There is a audio lag when I tried it the first time.
May I also ask how did you partition your sd card for LInk2SD?
I have a 64 GB class 10 sd card which I partitioned to FAT32 and even formatted it using my phone. Then I had it swapped with my internal using a script I found on a thread here.
That worked but my problem is running Titanium Backup and doing a full backup on the swapped external as the new internal storage is giving me an insufficient free storage space error even though I have plenty of space on the sdcard (/storage/sdcard0) and around 1 GB of space on the /storage/external_sd (which is the old internal storage)
Thanks in advance for any help.
Sure man I'd be delighted to help. Here is the script I used to overclock but I did some tweaking on the voltage until I found the right ones that wouldnt freeze my phone which are 850/900/950/1050 volts. Here is thelink http://artasnotebook.you2.pl/?page_id=16 (please backup your ROM before doing anything)
I used this to partition and use link2sd http://www.noypigeeks.com/android/tutorial-a-guide-to-link2sd/
And really I only use titanium backup to delete bloatware. I use cwm 1.5 for jb to backup my ROM. Yes I'm on 76920d.

Good luck!

Everything works fine. i don't have any problem with disabled media scanning. Performance? I don't know but think it's better. My SD Class10 is faster than internal memory.
I disabled it with Android Tweaker. New photos still immediately show in gallery and QuickPic, PowerAmp has its own scanner, so i encountered no probs so far...
With this service disabled image folders on the SD-card do not show up in the gallery. I had to re-enable the service.
I am running Wind Mobile 21D.
I use snap camera gallery and nexmusic player and it reconoce automatically my new music and pictures everything working good and a faster boot

I would like to leave warning to avoid moving/linking..
Play Store, Google Play Services, System Apps and any file manager you have.
Why you may ask?
Google Play Reason:
Cuz "heaven forbid" something happens to your SD card, you would lose access to Google Play and won't be able to download apps.
System App reason:
Well if you lose an system app you won't be able to Factory Reset.
File Manager Reason:
Well if you lose your file manager you of course won't be able to browse files.
And won't be able to download another if you lost Google Play.
Just a heads up for anybody wanting to install Link2sd

I'm confused about this last image (can't link to it because I'm new here) - I've been unsuccessfully trying to partition a 32GB card for days now, literally scouring this forum and others, and I've tried so many things on it - wiping, partitioning, deleting and creating new partitions, formatting - I really think the card itself is probably ruined, and that might be my main problem. So I bought a new 16GB SD card, SanDisk, I think class 4 (clerk told me that as I was paying, don't see anything on the package indicating what class it is), and I don't want to mess this up. I paid a guy to root my phone, and using Root Browser I see a list of folders and files, one of which is mnt, then subfolder sdcard, then subfolder external_SD pathway. If that what I should be seeing to begin with?
I do understand that the SDcard folder is not my SD card - it's actually part of the internal memory.
My confusion about your image is that when I look at Link2SD storage info I see "internal 73% free", "SD Card 73% free", "ext. SD 99% free", and "SD Card 2nd part. not mounted" - below that I see system 28% free and cache 97% free. Your image shows only 3 things. I notice that my "internal" and "SD card" show exactly the same numbers.
If you folks think what I'm seeing is normal, aside from the "not mounted," (I get that, it isn't mounting and I want to try a new card), I plan to start at the top of your instructions, use MiniTool Partition (which I've been using all along), partition my new card FAT32 12GB and second partition ext 3 (because I'm running android 4.1.2 and in these instructions it says to use ext3) 4GB. I have one large app (ibird pro) that I hope to link to the SD, which is why I chose 4GB for the second partition.
Can anyone see anything wrong here so far? I guess I'm looking for someone with my phone like TheCoutures who has done this process and has it working for confirmation that I'm not off base before I even start with this file structure and/or my plans for the partitioning sizes etc.
Thanks - and btw I thought the noob video was really funny and very well done, thoroughly enjoyed watching it
In case it doesn't show up my phone is an LG Optimus L9, T-mobile, android 4.1.2.
This is on my linked2sd. You are just fine with respect to the memory sections. Read from the beginning and you should be just fine. My card is 16mb and I partitioned it right down three middle. Try to mount or partition using cwm if you are more comfortable with that.

So "Google Chrome" and "Amazon" for example are marked as system apps but they are non-critical to system operation (I am assuming). Are you saying that if I uninstall these apps I won't be able to do a factory restore?
If I have a 32GB SD card, is there a download side to set the EXT3 partition to 16GB other than I have less space to store media files?

Yes that's correct.
They seem as normal apps but they are in the system so they have to be installed in order to do fact reset

OK. I would be grateful if you can assist me in restoring these system apps? I have started a thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389687

Data2sd?

Seeing as how the rezound has a whopping 2.34 gb dedicated for /data, what's the best way to incorporate data2sd if at all possible? The sdcard is formatted and ready to go, all I need is the best way to add the capabilities. Thanks.

u mean 2.34 GB for app storage, right? because rezound has approximately 11 GB for data storage (the phone storage).
from the subject if u mean something like app2sd darktremor script, super app2sd script, cronmod data2sd/ext2sd script or any others. All these scripts have 2 specific partitions for both the app and data by using partitioned sd card, i've used for some my old phones.
i've read related threads here for seeking the function too but never find at least one special thread about this kind of modding or other rom threads that provide data2script mod in their roms. Honestly i need it too
may be u have to make some gambling here for trying to use universal data2sd/ext2sd or any kinds which compatible for rezound in general hacking modding thread

Look at Link2SD... I have been using it since the days of my HTC Aria, it essentially makes your programs partition as large as you have SD card partition space and it has a nice interface. You do have to partition your SD card though, adding a partition specifically for Link2SD and then the application creates symbolic links in the normal partition for apps that point to the sd card. Make sure you read the instructions on how to use it though, or you will be wasting your time (use Link, not move).
