Google Now for Ice Cream Sandwich !!! - Galaxy 3 Themes and Apps

Well some guy over HTC Sensation forums was able to get Google Now working on any rooted device with ICS.
Here is the link to thread with the apk and the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045
Well I know we don't even have a working microphone on our ICS build, but at least we can type things in... worth trying I think. Well I'm currently on FROYO so i wont be able to test it any soon, any one currently on ICS might test it and give a feedback.
For those who don't know what google now is, its a freakin' cool personal assistant made by google, which is supposed to be working on Jelly Bean, but now is working on ICS too. Here is a vid of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHkhp6BwnGo&feature=player_embedded.

I tried it already yesterday. It is working but very slow in opening but good in responding.

Very slow app :-(

[Q] Has anyone got Runescape to work?

Has anyone tried runescape with 3.0 ROM's ?...I'm not sure if java is working on those or not but I'm trying to configure an idea on how to play on my g tab, any suggestions / help would be greatly appreciated.
its safe to say 3.0 roms will have many problems till we get source. even the 3.0 tablets coming out still have issues.
hope ice cream sandwich comes out soon

[Q] Stay at Android 2.3.4 or go at ICS?

Hello all!
First: sorry for my not quite good english.
Second: I have some type of problem. Actually I have on my SGS Vibrant ROM: Simply Honey Revolution 5.0 based on 2.3.4 android version. Now I'm thinking about uprage to some of ICS versions, like: ICS Passion v12 or Team ICSSGS RC4.1. I don't know what rom is better for me.
In 2.3.4 rom I have almost everything working, except GPS and front camera. Battery life is very good for me. I don't want new issues.
So, someone can help me to decide what I should do? Make upgrade to ICS (and what rom is better for me?) or stay at Simply Honey rom?
Thanks for advice!
Regards.
I had froyo and tried CM7. Didnt like much and went straight to ICS Passion. No regret at all, smoother, faster. It has the mute/unmute issue and you also need to reboot in order that GPS works. But still think that its better than GB 2.3.4 ROM. Didnt try ICSSGS, just Doc's (didnt like that much) and Passion so if you do try ICSSGS, give your thought.
the devs for ICSSGS dont actually have the vibrant. its a port from the i9000 and built off aosp. ics passion is built for the vibrant off cm9 framework. imho, ics passion or ecstasy are the best.
Ahh I see. So, for me better option is make upgrade to ICS. So I will try it. I hope that I won't be disappointed.
Thanks!

ICS beats any previous Android version by a mile.
The only thing that MIGHT suffer is your gaming performance. I've found that certain games my phone should play don't play as smoothly as intended (I'm talking about graphics intensive games here, like MC3, GTA 3, 9MM). The ROM is still in BETA and there are still some things to work out, but it's a very smooth experience overall.

Yes , Wrong.
Only reason not to go ICS is if you want the CM7 extras like permissions management. Passion or, if you want straight AOSP source, ICSSGS. Good luck.
These ice cream sandwich roms are pretty impressive and run very smooth when installed properly... The passion rom is no longer in beta and is pretty smooth for me.. Everything works except the gps after deep sleep.. Even the mute/unmute issue has been fixed!

ICS Gmail for froyo

I was wondering if there is any way to install a working version of Gmail like in ICS for a froyo rom? I tried ICS PASSION and that's the first time I saw a Gmail app that looked like that and i liked it. That's why I think it's an ICS app unless its just themed liked that in that rom.

No, all the ice apps require ics framework.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for an ICS port that is stable enough like a froyo rom or have enough money to buy an oficial ics device

Stable enough? I've had less problems with Passion running on my phone than I did on the 2.2/2.3 ROMs.

I tried passion and really liked it but the call quality was very bad for me, then there was the gps problem after deep sleep. And the battery gauge was going crazy on me too. If it wasn't for the call quality problem I would have stayed on it but I hope that gets fixed on the next update.

You sure it wasn't a bad flash? My call quality has been just as good with ICS as it was when I was running 2.2.

It's always possible but between that the gps which I constantly use and 911 being iffy i decided I'll wait for an update and try again.

I think Passion will get e911 support, since CM seems to have cracked it. More problematic for me is lack of wifi calling. I use that heavily in summer as cell coverage is abyssmal at the shore house. Other than that, Passion 13 has been great. Like having a new phone. I do like the ICS Gmail GUI.

My ICS passion is really more stable than froyo used to be. Mute/unmute incoming calls is fixed, so as 911. Just still have problems with GPS and DS.
I just installed euphoria last night and it's giving me better results so far, will have to keep testing to see how it does in a few days.

[Q] At&t Note i717 running 4.04 (Which root method should I use)

This may seem like a dumb question but I am unsure about which root method or files I should be using to root my i717 that is currently running Jelly Bean 4.04 with kernel 3.0.8. I am thinking that I can just use the one shown in the general thread but that says for STOCK note.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get out from under the TWLauncher umbrella so I can use things like the new google search feature.
Thanks!
This is what I used. Worked great

Thanks, everything seemed to work well. The only issue I ran into was that the SuperUser pack he has listed kept failing. I had to go pick up one from the superuser site (sorry cant link yet) to have it complete successfully.
Now to try to find out which ROM I should use. Any recommendations? Im hoping to find one that has the new google voice search similar to siri. Thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated.

Glad that worked out for you, if you where looking for a custom rom, you could have skipped root in the first place and gone straight for custom recovery then a custom rom !
As for what your looking for, your looking for Google Search (Dubbed Google Now) on a Jelly Bean rom (unless you want to use a sideloaded possibly modified version for ICS) which is the parallel to siri (im trying to be neutral, IMHO Google Now crushes Siri six ways from sunday MOST of the time... situational use of course is the reason "most of the time" is said)

Actually a sideloaded modded version would be great. I am not really interested in much other than checking that out. I suppose I can just google for one unless of course you know of a working one. Thanks again for all the info.
Now is bundled into Google Search on JB. Hold the search button and it pops up. I'm using CM10 stable. Other roms have more options here and there but it's the most stable and smoothest I've used with the least random reboots ( A common JB problem)

Thats great and all, but from what I am understanding of what he said, hed rather not mess with it too much and stick on stock AT&T ICS 4.0.4 and just sideload Google Now...
I dont have a link handy, I read about it, but never cared because I have no issue with CM10 (but yea, google search should do the trick for you, just make sure you nab the latest version since it was only recently updated)!

I was able to find a working version of Google Now. Seems to work fairly well on my 4.0.4 build. I haven't yet decided if there is a real reason for me to try and change out the actual rom or not. There are so many that I really have no idea what I would be getting by doing one over the other.
Thanks again for the info.

Jelly Bean Update Reviews

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could possibly give reviews/sceenshots of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X, as I may be updating once it is rolled out in Australia. Are there any bugs or glitches, or any unwanted new features. Are there useful new features and is it worth the update from ICS to JB. Thanks!
(P.S. Is Google Now enabled? It looks really useful.)
dont bother, some of us (including me) already went back to ics, cause as of now there's no big improvement in features/speed/anything.
even without the two bugs (transparent statusbar wont change background with scrolling, headphone-sound is horrible) it wouldnt be a "must have" imho
google now is included, yes (you have to set language to englisch i think, otherwise it wont work)
Jelly bean is awful. It's a miserable pile of crap. It doesn't work properly. It is slow. And my god, the sound...
Ok, well, my carrier Optus is insanely slow at rolling out updates, so even once HTC hopefully fix the performance issues and bugs, it will be months upon months after everyone else gets it that I get it. I think Im gunna stay on ICS even once I get the first version of the update available.
If you ask me Jelly Bean is faster 10 times than ICS.But thats all...2 new skins. No Full Sence and etc.
Ps:
Stock Browser is faster and have better preformance I like it before i didn use it but now i use is more than google chrome.
Sounds on headphones right now dont bother me cuz my headphones are broken But im with them 80% of my time I will w8t for fix and then will buy new...

narf, your kinda right about the browser, i noticed its a bit faster when you open/close tabs
Well i feel it smoother in apex launcher, and dunno about sense (don't like it) also apps work great ram management is better and multitasking much faster. Battery hold more for me on heavy usage. But the sound is big let down and maybe the update screwed up the camera a little. When you taking a picture you can hear the lens trying to focus and then it clicks and picture jumps a little.

Don't know if I'm right but for me it seems to me a bit more faster and smoother... but I'm afraid that it will never be full sense on DX...

And for that, you have Custom ROMs.
Cyanogen Mod
Just Hope we get some Cyanogen mod 10 action on the Desire X. I love vanilla android, and I have seen an unofficial build of cyanogen mod 9 on the Desire X, but not 10. Just hope some talented developer an bring it to us!:silly::laugh:
As for the Desire X jelly bean update, I think i'll give it a pass
I think CM9 has been discontinued on the Desire X he was up to alpha 2 last I saw, pretty sure hes waiting for JB open sources to come out and then start working on CM10, gutted about the JB update though took so long to come out and when it did so many people were checking to see if they could get it and now a little while later no one wants to touch it with a ten foot triple wrapped pole. By the way I saw somewhere the JB update the did was a beta version can anyone confirm this ?
Im glad you guys tested the JB, i'll just wait for some more updates...

Is it fixable, that is the question.

Typically it would have a different ident code. That's how the developers keep track of their revisions. So if they modify anything or fix anything the commits would increment the number accordingly.
So, long story short, it should have a new code.

Android.process.acore force close fix for all devices running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) HTC has developed a fix for an android.process.acore issue affecting HTC devices running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Most products have already received this fix through regular software updates. If you haven't received the fix, you can check for the update manually: Navigate to Settings > About > Software updates > Check now > to get People v4.5.538722 apk update.
I saw this on the HTC site.
I assume they are referring to the current Jelly Bean problem,.

How did you go back to ICS?
I stupidly updated to JB and find it is now slower and sound is not good. Also, I think the camera works less well.

you can install every ics-rom you want, just follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213663
your bootloader has to be unlocked to do so. and you have to flash a custom recovery.
you can unlock you bootloader by using this website http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
but be aware of the fact, that you MIGHT have a problem when it comes to warranty.
Just installed yesterday (Optus finally got off their arses), so far haven't noticed much difference, just read here about sound so tested, don't see any difference; then again I disable Beats (urgh), so maybe that's it?
MAJOR plus is that USB OTG is now enabled, so with a $2 adapter you can now access your USB sticks etc. Weirdly it doesn't show up under /mnt, is under /storage
Will test tonight if MHL is now working (dunno if it wasn't before or if I have incompatible hardware). Don't have a HDMI cable with me.
I am getting this phone tomorrow,so should i update to JB or not ?
