Anyone here know how to make the sgsIII save the APN ? I had to enter the proper APN info, but it forgets it every time it boots.
I am on Koodo with is a subcompany of Telus with same MNC as Telus. So this telus phone works fine on it. But every time I reboot the Koodo APN info I enter is gone leaving only the Telus ones which wont work.
Any help is always appreciated guys.
Thanks.
No one has any ideas eh. I flashed a rooted version of my ROM and added the APN but I still lose it every reboot. Is there a file I could enter it into so as to not lose it ?
Tried editing files directly, no go.
system\framework\framework-res.apk the APN file in there
and the actual /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
No luck! Someone must know something
Ok grepped the whole framework apk for it, it isn't there. Doh
Apn backup on the market

It says you cannot restore APNs in ICS on play store apps. Doh!
There is a system back up item in Titanium called "Dialer Storage 4.0.4 - SMS/MMS/APN" that should do the trick.

Wish I could just edit the default telus APN into the koodo apn then I'd never have this trouble again
Ill try titanium

settings > wireless and network > mobile network > access point names > t-mobile
apn type: internet and mms
under access point names its blank. I can add a new apn but im not sure what all to add as far as proxy, port, user name, pass, server, ect...
edit: I got it to work thank you.
Also lost Data after flashing Wifi Calling app ...can't change settings in Mobile networks
think I've lost baseband...(whatever that means...basically phone won't recognize a sim card is loaded) is there a way to fix this without Oding ?
Does the phone say there's no SIM card inserted? If so, run to any T-mobile store and ask for a new SIM.
Also, I was having data issues two days ago. I keep a copy of the KB5 modem that's flashable in Recovery. Just re-flash and all was good.
T-mobile APN address:
epc.tmobile.com
Wish I could attach the KB5 file for ya, but I can't. Just search for it.

Hi all
Just wanted to see if any of yall with a stock rom would be willing to download APN Backup and Restore (link at bottom) and attach me a backup of your APN. Thank You in advance.
It would help out a ton.

You can easily create an APN. Google for the settings.
.
I know but AT&T uses multiple APNs and I have tried 4 different ones so far and my internet speed and MMS are still having problems. A backup of a AT&T APN should fix this problem.
Please I am begging

It depends on what your data plan is provisioned for. Since you are not using an ATT phone it could be 1 of 3. Medianet, 4G, or LTE. All 3 have different APNs.
Okay so I have a Xperia P from the US and am running the latest available firmware for it .544. When trying to help someone else out today I noticed I have an APN for T-Mobile US epc.tmobile.com.
I can't remove it and when I started digging deeper in my device I found a setting in the com.android.providers.settings Secure database that says tether_dun_apn an lists that T-Mobile APN. I can't remove the entry from the dbase using sqlite because I get an error 5: database is locked message.
In the com.android.providers.telephony telephony.db under carriers I only have my APN settings that I input.
I can't get tethering to work because of this T-Mobile apn/entry in the com.android.providers.settings database. The wifi hotspot starts and runs but says network error when it starts and I get no data traffic on any devices that connect to it.
My customization number is 1264-3189. Anyone else with this customization number have that same T-Mobile APN?

Already rooted and still can't remove it. I would like to.keep the firmware for my region/customization number.
Sony may be pushing out network settings in the US for their non-carrier branded devices though I was told T-Mobile wasn't part of that yet.
I would like to know if other people that have a Xperia P from the US that still have the stock firmware if they have this T-Mobile APN as well and if they could check their com.android.providers.settings database.in the secure table to see if they have the same tether_dun entry.
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ ion
Attached is the APN that gets automatically added and the entries I found in the com.android.providers.settings/settings.db file in the secure table.
Anyone know of a way to unlock the database to edit the secure table?

So you have a link to that firmware so I can pull it up on my XS as well or know what customization number that firmware is? I have passed this issue on to my friend at Sony. He was seeing the same thing and will let the devs know.

I see the same entries in the com.android.providers.settings settings.db as well with that firmware. Do you have AT&T and if so can you tether successfully? Do you have the tether plan with them or no?
I've got a Sola with the same problems. The T-mobile apn and the network error when I try to tether. I'm using the official sony updated ics.

US bought Sola?
My friend at Sony passed the info on to one of their developers. He is supposed to call me so we can go through things. I'll let you guys know.

By the way, I am on AT&T but I do not have a tethering plan.
Sola bought from newegg.com unlocked and unbranded, not sure if it's US or not. I'm on ATT. Didn't have a problem before the update to ICS.

Okay cool. Sony dev is supposed to be contacting me to follow-up. Hopefully we get this worked out.

I kinda fixed it. I went into the tmobile apn settings and changed them to match my att settings. Tethering works now, only one problem. Now when I go into the section where it shows my different apn's it says "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." It doesn't really matter though since everything is working fine. I shouldn't have the need to go back in there. I figure if there's an update it will fix that.

I have the same problem and was wondering if you had any success resolving it? I thought that the T-mobile APN was only in there because I used T-mobile the first week I had the phone before wising up and moving to Straight Talk. FWIW I was able to tether with no problems when I was on T-Mobile, but of course the data speed was very slow (edge network only)
EDIT: I missed the 2nd page of this thread. Actually I was able to fix the problem completely by just editing the T-Mobile APN. I kept the name the same and just changed the "Access Point Name" category to [att.mvno] and now it works fine. I think if you change the name and other categories you will get the "Unfortunately Settings has stopped" error that johndra mentioned. But the way I just did it seems to have worked great. Thanks for the pointer!

Thanks for the update. Still haven't gotten it resolved. We should be able to remove it completely. I am on vacation this week but will touch base with my contact at Sony next week to see about getting the dev to contact me. They seemed really interested in the problem when it was brought up but haven't followed through with contacting me yet.
Okay so I managed to remove the APN on my Xperia P. Not quite a simple procedure but here is what I did.
1. Zipped up the com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db file (along with the settings.db-shm and settings.db-wal files just in case)
2. adb pull the zip file to my computer.
3. Edited the settings.db file in a sqlite editor (I used Navicat on the Mac) and removed the tether_dun_apn and tether_dun_required entries in the secure table.
4. Zipped the files back up.
5. adb push back to my Xperia P
6. copied the files back to the com.android.providers.settings/databases folder overwriting the old files
7. changed the permissions to match what they were originally.
8. rebooted and APN was gone and I could tether without the error message
Now there still has to be an easier way to get remove the APN from a rooted phone. I'm gonna try to see what I can do as far as a .bat file with a script to remove it. At least this fixes it for now. I will be passing this along to Sony as well and hope to get some more info from them.

I kind of solve the problem, I edited T-Mobile APN and only changed de address of the APN leaving everything else the same, then I created a new APN for my operator and tethering (WiFi and USB) is now working. I didn't get the "Unfortunately Settings has stopped" error.
Spoke to a Sony developer today. Hoping to get this issue worked out. Also passed on the issue with the camera on the latest firmware.

Dear All,
Can someone help me with the locations where the settings for 1x/3g data are stored on the samsung fascinate. On a custom rom, I have tried copying files from system /etc/ppp folder, copied apns config file, changed the build.prop etc but nothing helps. I can access the apn settings via elixir app but does not allow me to change the mcc and mnc codes. How do I change the mcc and mnc codes. The codes in my nam settings are correct, ie 405 & 00 resp.
Alternatively, when a rom is built, it is built for a specific service provider eg verizon, telus, sprint, uscc etc. What different settings are done to the roms while doing this. Can these settings be incorporated so that the rom will work on Reliance networks (India).
Any help in this matter would be appreciated.
To access apns open voice dialer and say "open apns" from there you can create/edit the APN.
If all else fails *228 might work, not sure if that matters by country.
If you have the info or can get it check on rootzwiki site under development in fascinate/mesmerize/ showcase forums for ReidandKat ROM Konverter he may can set it to make the changes for you

"Open APNs" does seem to work with JB using Google Now. Unless there is some trick to it. =(
I've been having problems for quite awhile now with the modem on my GS4. It started after I installed Hyperdrive RL14 so I tried switching ROM's, at the time not knowing what was wrong. I switched to the AOSP 4.4 ROM but still no fix. Then I found out about modems and tried flashing an original MDK modem to match my baseband. LTE is the only service that works for me, I can't use 3G or CDMA/EV-DO. I tried flashing the ME7 modem also but still to no avail. I can't make calls or send texts anymore and it's starting to get annoying....
Any idea what my next course of action should be?
Do you have Mobile Data checked and Network mode set to CDMA / LTE / EVDO?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, my LTE works and I have the preferred network set to CDMA+LTE/EVDO and access point on LTE-Verizon Internet. My Calling and Texteing isn't funtioning.
This has happened to me over the years. Sounds like the APN settings got corrupted. Unless you're savvy enough to edit system settings there are two alternatives.
1 Factory Reset
2 Odin back to stock and start over.

Have you tried to create a new APN with the Verizon settings? when I used Verizon I had a weird issue when I visited my wifes family way out in the sticks. I was messing around and ROM hopping because her family is boring and somewhere during the hopping I lost my voice and text... I didn't know it because I had no signal on their farm but on the drive home I created a new APN with the factory Verizon settings and it worked.
I flashed Hyper drive 11 or 12 a day or so later and I did not have to reimput anything, it just worked after that.

or a way to go into the root settings and change it? gimmie a minute I have ti somewhere and I will edit the post if I find it
I know it is in :
/system/etc/apns-conf.xml
I tried creating a new APN but it would never save, then I tried altering the current APN, it wouldn't save either :/
Eh I think I'll just ODIN a fresh stock and be done with this.
Edit-
I successfully ODIN'd a fresh stock ROM, however my calling/texting still does not work
