[Q] CM9 ROM missing wireless settings - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I installed the CM9 ROM from this link last night and have a couple of questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957
It installed fine but the "Wireless and Networks" section was missing from Settings so I wasn't able to join a wireless network initially. When I started Google Play app it asked to join a network so that was fine but then I wasn't able to change network. I ended up installing the free Wifi Manager app so I can switch wireless networks. Is this a known issue with this ROM?
Also Chrome doesn't work currently - is there a setting to make it work (does it need HW acceleration?) or should I stick with the stock browser?

[Q] Wifi tether not working?

I just rooted and couldnt get Barnacle or the other Wifi tether app to work. After some googling I saw that there's an issue with the Vibrant and tethering. Any known working wifi tether apps working? If not, what can I do? Install a custom ROM?
Mobile AP works just fine for me
Im using the standard ROM and don't see the mobile AP option. In the market I just see a mobile AP shortcut that doesnt do anything but warn me it doesnt work on my phone.
By "standard rom" I take it you mean TouchMyWiz, but what version are you running?
I'm pretty sure this will work for you no matter which 2.1 rom you are using.
Mobile AP App Fixed to Work on Samsung Vibrant
i've been running barnacle tether for the past week to run my ipod with little to no issues as long as i have a decent 3g signal on my phone.
I was having this issue with Wireless Tether for Root Users whenever I tried downloading form the market or any repository.
I ended up downloading the apk for the Facinate from the android-wifi-tether google code page and after a couple tries it worked fine for me on Obsidian V4.2.

what am i missing with mobile hotspot?

my tb is rooted and running bamf 186. my native "mobile hotspot" app still works as an active hotspot . i guess i was under the impression that this native app should no longer work and i would have to use an alternative wireless tether app.
am i missing something? i purchased my tb about 2 mos ago.
thanks

Free tethering will continue to work on rooted Thunderbolts, as it does on nearly all other rooted android phones. It's only non rooted phones that have to pay now.
I updated to the new stock rooted rom and the new radio an now my Hotspot says that I have to call in to get the Hotspot. I can still use wireless tether program but that only does adhoc connections and not Infrastructure. Is there any way to get rid of tetherguard.apk and go back to the old hotspot so it is still free? or is the only way to go back to the old radio?
where is the link for apk of wireless tether? anybody?
no apk
It's hosted on a Google android development page.. If you google it you can find all the developers apks pretty easily.
Don't forget to click "Enable HTC routing fix" in the settings or you'll have some issues getting it to work.

[Q] How to make browser work with WiFi - EDIT Solved, GPS had to be fixed.

I just bought a Telus Fascinate 4G and I cannot get any pages to load in the browser when connected on WiFi, I just get an Apache Forbidden error for almost any site (except Google works sometimes), any web site will work when on 4G. I noticed that as soon as I open the browser the 4G icon comes on at the same time as WiFi, is there any way to fix this?
I am running the stock ROM, rooted, but this happened before the root, I even did a wipe.
I also tried 2 different wireless routers and the Dolphin HD browser, same problem. The same routers work with an iPhone 4 and HTC Desire.
Please help!
Thanks.
UPDATE:
I have found the cause of the problem, its the GPS, if I uncheck "Enable Location" in the browser options it works with WiFi, but if I open a GPS enabled app like Maps the problem returns, disabling GPS Satellites in settings fixes this. So I guess the problem lies in the GPS, is there a GPS fix or am I stuck?
UPDATE 2:
The problem was fixed with the installation and running of a free app called GPS Status, works flawlessly so far.

[Q] Location based on Mobile Network doesn't work in FXP114 (CM7.2)

Hi,
I am using FXP114 (CM7.2) on an Xperia Mini Pro. I use OpenStreetMap (OsmAnd) as a mapping application. In Settings -> Location & Security, I have "Use wireless networks" enabled to determine my location. I have WiFi and Mobile Data connections turned on, but GPS turned off.
Now, in OsmAnd, when I hit "Where Am I?", I keep getting
"Position unknown yet",
when I should be getting my location based on cell towers. This used to work just fine with the stock ROM. Does anyone know whether this is a known bug in FXP, or how I can fix this?
Thanks!
It's probably a problem in the velocity of your connection by data, or just that your application can't deduce your position just with your data connection. I don't know, but if the application work with data connection, you must be able to use it. Just make a test: with the news and weather program which comes with the gapps, try to deduce your location with the data connection. For my phone (SK17) worked!
Hi,
well, as I said, with the same phone/provider/app, it worked when I used the stock ROM.
Thanks fpr your suggestion, but I really want to keep gapps off my phone, plus I don't have a google account. What's another app I could use to test if it works there?
Thanks!
I tried with various other apps, like OpenSatNav, aMetro, MIUI Compass, and positioning via mobile network just doesn't work.
Is there anybody out ther who has this working with Free Xperia and the Mini Pro?
Thanks!
Probably seems like a ROM bug, if another apps also do not work.
Just realized another possible cause: I don't have gapps installed. Since network-based location is so closely tied to Google in stock ROMs, maybe it does not work on FXP when gapps are not installed?
Is there anybody out there without gapps on their FXP and working network-based location?

Click to collapse
That could be the cause.
Apparently, network location only works with gapps. To avoid installing them all, you can just pick the right apk manually, see here:

Worked like a charm for me!

Rogers Galaxy S4 Tethering issues (AOSP ROM)

This is my first post here, so I made sure I checked the forum for previous issues that may relate to my problem, to no avail (nothing that matches exactly).
Basically, I can't tether anymore, it was working fine last week, but now my other devices will connect, but with "Limited or no Connectivity" (Laptop and iPod Touch). I have a data plan and tethering access through my provider (Rogers in Canada)
Here's is what I have:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Rooted (TWRP installed)
Custom ASOP 4.2.2 ROM installed (DEODEX)
Custom ASOP Kernel
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342298)
As of this morning, tethering has ceased to function, as stated above, I can enable and my devices can see the network, but they will never acquire internet access after connection, even though I have full signal and the phone itself has internet access
Please note, tethering was working on this ROM (but not the kernel) last week.
I would post this in the ROM thread, but I’m unable to do so as I cannot post in the developer board until I have 10+ posts under my belt
Bump (Update)
Anyone else out there encountering this issue?
I have been trying to figure out the root of the issue ever since my original post, but still not too much further. Seems that as soon as I revert to my touchwiz ROM, all works as it should, but any custom ROM I try (and I've tried many), tethering does not work. I have verified the APN settings are the same on the touchwiz version (stock ROM) and the custom ROMs that I've tried todate, very frustrating and I can't seems to find anyone with the same problem. I even call Rogers and had them remove and readd the tethering flag on my account, to no avail.
Howdy,
Found the solution to my tethering issues, simply go to the Play Store and search for this app:
ISWAT Tether Unlocker Free
There will be a rather obnoxiously loud app that will play before it performs the operation to unlock your tethering, but afterwards, it works as it does with the stock ROM. You're free to uninstall the app afterwards and you'll retain your tethering abilities
