[Q] HTC Speak [found answers] - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am getting my LTE later today and came across HTC Speak in the Pkmn Rom....they reference the ability to toggle a setting to be used to launch HTC Speak....
Since search is down, I did all the manual searching I could and have pieced together that HTC Speak is on the HTC One for ATT...and the Pkmn ROM is a port for LTE users.....
My question, is HTC Speak on the LTE via stock or custom ROM.....and if so, any users have any feedback on how well it works?
Thanks!
found the answer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724864 thanks for looking!

I think it works pretty well, but I'm never sure if I'm using htc speak or google voice.
The funny thing is , htc tweeted a picture that looked like it was hinting at an upcoming voice app. Turns out engadget and other sources misinterpreted what they meant. I flashed to pkmn day after reading that and saw htc speak. So I'm thoroughly confused :/

Yeah it sounds like it isn't anything important. I was hoping it'd be more like a personal assistant type thing....but I'm sure that would've been marketed a lot more.....ill play around with it and let you know if i see something different. Thanks for the feedback.

It's tied into the car app. Longpressing home in the car app was supposed to launch HTC Speak, their vehicular hands free service. It's been hacked out for roms with long press home for recent apps. AFAIK, it doesn't really do much.

[Q] Photon to Evo 3D?

Hi guys, I seem to be swimming against the current, so to speak. I upgraded a couple weeks ago from the HTC Hero to a Motorola Photon. I'm now having some buyer's remorse. I think the Evo 3D is much better suited to my needs. Over on the Photon forums, you can find all manner of folks that had an Evo 3D but switched to the Photon in the 30-day window.
Are there any folks out there that have done what I'm thinking about? Namely going from Photon to Evo 3D? If so, what has your experience been like? Are you happy with the switch?
The Photon's phone is fantastic, and it would allow me to roam globally. Yet, the Motorola UI is crap for business. Widgets are ugly, uninformative, and tedious. The launcher is basically un-customizable. The mailboxes are unified, and you can't create a homescreen shortcut to just one inbox. It's a nightmare! Even my craptastic Blackberry Pearl let me split my inbox accounts! Call logs on the Photon don't display call length, and the phone requires drivers up the a$$ just to charge from a PC! WTF?
I realize I will probably have to give up a bit on call quality and perhaps speaker volume, but somebody please tell me it's better than the Hero!
Any advice?
Come on over and play. You will love the 3D. Most of the people that jumped ship to the photon was because of the locked bootloader on the 3d. Well that ain't a problem anymore. You can unlock and root your 3d with ease now so come and join the fun.
Make the switch, don't left the rep apply software updates, just activation. (Check the phone in the store before leaving, don't let the sales rep leave! Make sure the physical hardware is ok.) Unlock bootloader & grab a recovery with revolutionary, flash superuser file to root, install a rooted 2.3.4 Rom.
Enjoy life knowing you've made a better investment.

This sounds intriguing. Presumably if they update in the store i'll get a firmware version that's not rootable yet? I'll have to make sure I take your advice. What software version do I want? Or maybe I should ask what version do I want to AVOID?

EVO V 4G

What the heck is the deal with the new EVO V 4G on Virgin Mobile. This phone is literally the exact same that we are using and it comes with an OFFICIAL ICS update. We EVO 3D users still do not have a truly official ICS update, so what the heck? Why don't original EVO 3D owners have a ICS upgrade while owners of the exact same phone with a different name do. WTF HTC?!?!? First HTC phone and probably last; the lack of support(dev included, compared to other phones of the same calibre) is just ridiculous. Looks like the next google device is the way to go.

Actually, this does in fact fall on HTC. You can't very well blame Sprint for the lack of official ICS for all the branded and unbranded/unlocked GSM 3d models now can you?

Oh yea... I'm a *****. Haha!
Sprint did this to keep the production and life of the EVO 3D going, just on a "different" carrier. Even when I called Sprint to have my EVO 3D replaced a couple weeks ago, they were going to try and figure out a way to send me a Virgin Mobile 3D and get it working on Sprint (Yeah, they actually said that. Then I told them, 'I'm pretty sure you guys can't do that.')
This way the EVO 3D and WiMax lives on for a little longer, and they can usher in the LTE with their new lineup. WiMax will be a hand-me-down to Virgin Mobile eventually, just like the EVO 3D is to them, and the EVO Design is to Boost.

This is defeating the purpose of the OP. Again, I've said this before.. HTC fails when it came to this phone. The customer service is piss, they are boosting there PR, and making us suffer.
Oh hey you want ics too bad, root and install a Custom rom. Defeats the purpose of everything HTC. People complain that to make the iphone like a HTC they have to jailbreak it, we'll, HTC is doing the same thing with their phones.. People are to blind to see it.

Can't blame the developers for the degree of difficulty it takes to make custom roms for this phone without sources. I can honestly say if it wasn't for the 3d camera stuff, this phone would have a hell of a lot more development. Now HTC has been sandbagging as far a source code and kernel information and this is making me look more and more at the Galaxy S3 vs the Evo Lte.

I know there are ics roms available based on leaks... But the point is support your flagship devices first. That's in part why people buy them.
I am running a ics rom and there are some bugs. The one that bothers me is the front camera reversing pics. And then there was the fact no one knew the firmware messed things up for a lot of us. Sprint and htc need to support us first or we won't buy their flagship again.

I am running an ICS ROM and there are absolutely no bugs at all. The front camera reversing the pics was an instagram bug, not ICS and blaming anyone but yourself for flashing the VM firmware is just plain silly. If you want to blame anybody, blame sprint. The reason that VM got ICS is because Sprint didn't have to take a buttload of time adding their crapware to the image and then more time testing it. They should have done what they have done in the past and "leak" the image for us to "test" and find the bugs.

Yes, the firmware was my fault but to be fair some of the first leaks said to flash it for the rom to work. I don't want to offset the blame, but at the time we didn't know much about it and i was impatient (my fault for that).
Anyway... I don't have instagram, never installed it... yet still have that bug. i've had it since a full wipe. Tried 3 different roms... exists in all. so not sure why I have it if others experience it.
I've had that reversed front camera issue for awhile. Doesn't bug me though, it still remains on my current Rom (MikVirgin). Certain camera apps allow you to flip that ffc image, apparently this happens on plenty of other devices also.

Ok, I'm new here so this may be way off the subject.... There are a few folks that have posted a full odexed and deodexed versions of the new ICS rom on our HTC Evo V's. Can't you just flash that rom to your phone and have everything working like it's supposed to? Just asking.

New Google Search??

Anyone know if theres a way to get the new google voice search to work on the evo lte...looks pretty sweet but couldnt find anything on it...thanks
Even if anyone could just post the current apk from their system/app/ or data/app/ folder. I really want the real Search app on CM9. It's the only thing missing, IMHO. Aside from that one thing missing, this is nearly flawless. I'm very surprised, since we don't have a real CM9 kernel yet due to lack of source. (Hint hint, HTC)

I understand that, but we don't even have ICS source for cdma, and we are supposed to get JB? thats more along the lines of what I meant. Either way, I will probably be running a copy of it before sprint even thinks about supporting it. Love the dev's around here!
Moral of the story ...don't post without proof
I don't think HTC will upgrade anything earlier than the one range because essentially they will have to develop two types of ROMs ...for the one series with imagesense and the rest of the range without image sense capabilities.
But you never know, shout enough and maybe they'll listen
