Hello guys - all I know is that unlocking bootloader would lose the DRM keys. And from somewhere, I read that without DRM keys, apps such as TrackID would not function.
But then, I have been looking and looking, but I can't find (perhaps a complete list of) what exactly is affected when DRM keys are lost.
Could anyone answer that? Much appreciated.

download of music information in default music player doesn't work anymore...
Gesendet von meinem LT22i
Thanks - but I already installed the CM9 Apollo Music Player which is almost equally as good, if not better.
Anything else? Are the Xperia Smart Tags, LiveWare, Timescape, Facebook inside Xperia affected?

Nothing you listed is affected.
TrackID also still works without the DRM keys.
So is it safe to say that losing DRM keys did not affect anything except that you can't download music information from Walkman app?
That appears to be the case so far...I don't think anything else has popped up yet.
Maybe the Sony store (music/video unlimited) stuff doesn't? I don't use it so I have no idea if it stops working or not.
Why you didn't ask in the place where you read it? was better than opening a new thread in the wrong section.

Sorry that I'm a noob. I reported my own post about moving it to the right section almost immediately after I've posted it. D:
I didn't ask in the place where I read it because 1. it wasn't in this forum and 2. I imagined perhaps some sort of a list of affected issues that I couldn't find anywhere else, only to find out that there is only 1 item on the list (if there's going to be a list).

Try Shazam as a replacement.
Frens keep ur fingers crossed...
I hv ported timescape and se backup restore app already. Now they both run on custom roms and even on non se phones
As for track id, m working on it, managed to get it installed.
It does record song and transfer it to gracenotes server, but returns authentication error.
Will find a way soon to crack d last step.

Hi there im willing to test trackid when you get round to it I have an xperia play on android 2.3.2 unlocked bootloader and rooted.
As someone else said its the drm certificates that get wiped when unlocking a bootloader that gets trackid to authenticate with the server.
There maybe a way to restore these drm certs if you have a phone with trackid working and rooted as you can find all the files it needs to run properly, no good with unlocked bootloader as files will be missing.
Im keen to get this going again and dont think its fair that i have a phone which was legally bootloader unlocked and rooted and had the trackid functionality taken away.
Any progress?...; )
Hi,
I'm really new to android and rooted my phone, unlocked my bootloader too (I like experimenting ).
Unfortunately Track ID got screwed, searched the web for solutions/fixes and I came to this thread.
I liked Track ID and still do. Any updates on this so far Myth999?
Can SE provide the drm certs to us? Nevermind the void warranty?
Nope buddy I don't think trackid would be possible...
I could make it load and all but when track id records and sends a song for search, it also checks the license on their server.
If the licensing was like se backup restore app, limited to files on the phone, it could have been circumvented, but track id is diff so as of what I know it ain't possible...
Tried my best

Oh well...I guess I have the same motto as you "Impossibility is a Myth"
Until then I'm sure this will be "fixed" in the near future. We have very good developers and the like sharing their expertise.
I'll just keep my hope alive.
Thanks buddy.....and keep up the fantastic work you're doing
haha so u remember that tag I used...
Anyways I think I will give it one last try when I get some time...let's see where I end up...

Did anyone notice some apps missing in the ICS upgrade? Like the music unlimited app, media remote and perhaps most importantly, the powersaver app? I thought that was strange - the powersave app was quite popular from what I seen and I don't know why it was removed - the extended battery mode says it only turns off wifi and data traffic, nothing else and is not configurable. Some of these apps are not available in the Sony section of the Google Play store. What does everyone think?
I didn't see many changes to the music app, just a few visual changes and of course the nice visualiser. It's a little easier to scroll though the artists etc. and I like that.
The video app makes it easier to navigate videos no? Don't have to use file explorers etc.
The last thing I wanted to talk about was SI codes. Did anyone see one for the UK or world? I have not seen one in any of the compilations or comments and I'd like to use it to update via PCC.

You edited that first post,sorry.
As per apps,I never had those apps in GB except Power Saver, and I didn't use it,so I am not missing any of those.
To the OP kindly change the header to reflect that this a discussion and not a question.

No, problem, done! :victory:
I guess we'll just have to wait for news on the Sony about the change of apps, any further comments they have on ICS (I see a Jellybean section now) and for codes of course.

I agree with you about music app.
Album and Movies apps are way better than GB ones,it has become very easier to navigate and more effective.
are there any new widgets or something cool that xperia s hasnt got?
Not that I know of. In fact, the media apps that are included are slightly different to the ones mentioned and displayed on the official Sony mobile site. They look mostly like the normal Sony 2012 apps - not the hot ones from here:

You can see most of the changes in this ICS here:

Okay so I realize that this question has probably already been asked more than once, however I'm brand new to not only this site but also to Android phones, so I couldn't find anything in my searches, but I'm hoping someone can point my in the right direction.
I am looking for a complete list of every app and/or system file that is safe to remove from the Xperia Z2, once it has been rooted, without hindering performance. My Z2 is the D6503 model and is running firmware 17.1.A.2.55 (not yet rooted).
Thanks in advance

Try searching though general or cross section development
Hi everyone!
So long story short I used to have an Xperia Neo, and a few months ago, ending up in the xda developement section here, I decided to try and unlock the boodloader, root it, and put Cyanogenmod 11 on it, after hours and hours of googling.
That phone is now almost destroyed (mechanically, because of myself) but I have another Xperia, this time a Neo V, which I'd like to "improve" in this way.
I am wondering, anybody has any advice on how to go about it?
This is what I'm looking for:
- Have at least some modern apps working (whatsapp, spotify, messenger?)
- Have the ability to put them on SD card and not internal memory
- No bugs on common stuff like telephone, SMS and browser
- No extra battery drain than what I already have
Any advice how to go about it? Should I go the CM13 way? CM11? Is there even one stable custom mod anywhere I can find without bugs? My CM11 was rather buggy and didn't support most apps (no facebook messenger, etc), and I couldn't put all of my programs on the SD but just part of them.
Any help would be appreciated. Just something like "oh this mod works well and the links are still alive, go here *link*".
Hope I'm in the right section.
Just to be clear, I'm not asking "what is the best ROM", as I saw that is forbidden here.
I am asking: if I wanted the phone to run smoothly, what way should I go about it? Should I root it again and go Cyanogenmod? Should I look into other possibilities? Would I get a better result just going stock and using gapps and other apps that remove bloatware instead?
If anyone has got this phone to a good standard please just let me know how you did it and I'll be super grateful.
There are so many ways to go about it I honestly have no idea where to start with
Up, any recommendations at all?
Can anybody please tell me what happened to the Google search bar (see screenshot)? Anyone else got this problem?

What "useless"? Searching for a useful answer and not for such a useless comment! Tried to find something in the web. Couldn't find anything regarding my request. Since my last device restart the Google search looks like in my screenshot. Square, simple and without the "G" logo and microphone.

Don't wanna blaim anything nor anyone. I just wanna know if it is normal and if someone else's got the same look of the search bar. Is it kind of new design or is it an ui failure on Sony devices. That's all. Hope some useful answers will follow!?

Yes I know. But it's kinda implemented in the Sony UI. And no one else of my friends with smartphones from different brand got the Search bar looking like in my Sony at the moment. And I don't mean the widget. I am talking about the Sony Homescreen setting option.
That's a Google mandated feature for "Android" phones. A lot of people change launchers to get rid of the search bar. You could do the same to change it.
I quickly switched back to the Xperia Home launcher to take a look and yes my google search bar is the same as yours now. All generic looking rectangle. I tried changing the way it looks in the google app, I tried clearing cache and data of both the google app and the xperia home app, and nope, it stays that way. It maybe a bug introduced by Sony, or it maybe on purpose, we will never know. Sony's customer service is one of the worst ones out there when it comes to communication so asking them will probably never work.
(I use nova, but unlike all these "elitists" I do not scold ppl for using something they prefer and I try to help them if I can, so on the behalf of the old xda when there used to be more helpful ppl compared to the current generation, I apologize)

While it maybe mandatory to have the search bar a part of the launcher, it is not forced upon the user they way you mentioned, as we can opt to not show the search bar in the Xperia Home launcher settings. We don't need to change launchers just to get rid of it like how you implied.

Thank you very much. That's kind of answer I was looking for. Just wanted to know if someone else got the same. So I don't have to look for a solution or start troubleshooting. Will stay with. For voice requests I can still use the assistant button and for the rest the search bar is still working the same.
I'm on stock Android 12 with stock Sony launcher. Mine looks the same as always

Just done the same test also. I can confirm I have the same issue.
Currently on FW 61.1.A.11.36 if it makes any difference.
I use Lawnchair so this issue doesn't really effect me, but still Sony should fix it.

Sony Xperia 5 II Search bar is strange
I have a strange search bar. I made a screen capture video and took a picture from it, of topic question, can you make a screen copy of the home screen in an android phone? As you see in the bottom the search widget is square and not with the Google G. Just the word Sök, Swedish for search...

FYI: Issue got solved due to the current Google app update!
