The security model of android does not allow apps to enable gps. There are workarounds but you should be aware of the issues that this may cause: an app could turn on fine grained location and track your position without your knowledge.

Get the app called "Tasker".

hmm it seems it could work with tasker but then you've to install custom ROM and that's not the point in my opinion...well then...there's no way until google change their mind

Navigation System in google Maps not available for my country?

Hi All,
Google Maps already installed on my SGS2 as you know but when I want to navigate, it says navigation not available for my country>>>saudi arabia...
What can I do to have navigation for my country? I searched this forum but didn't get anything or for some other smartphones.
I shall be thankful for help.

Just download and install the apk, you don't need root...
This doesn't unlock your original Maps but installs a different modified one that supports world wide navigation, so if you've got root you might wanna freeze the original Maps along with Navigation, Latitude and Places and install the apk with the modified ones.

Thanks a million hank00k for your reply.
I tried that apk but failed to install over the previous version. There is no method I found in that thread on how to install in un rooted devices?
Well I don't exactly remember which post I downloaded mine from but I guess there's a different version for non root users.
Here's the apk I use, give it a try

does anyone know why navigation is not available in most countries?
I mean, I used the method posted here, and it works great in my country, why is that I can't do it 'officially' and have to resort to a hack to do it?
do you know the reason?

[Q] How to Enable Navigation which doesnt Support some Countries

Its a request to everyone that while giving a soln ,specify it properly that whether the so and so app or trick requires Rooting of cell or not ,because i have clearly specified that i want a Soln without Rooting.

An Ace without root is half an Ace... To enjoy full functionality of the Android platform, the phone needs to be rooted. You can always unroot at any time safely.
I use sygic for navigation in India... It is far better than Google maps... Worth every rupee and more.

K I have seen review of sygeic it seems good bt after I downloaded the setup it says " need to download data which is big as so requires Wifi connection ",now my problem is I dont have wifi connection bt I do use 3G ,bt still it says need wifi to download data, so can u plzz tell me soln or this or any other alternative app which is good as sygeic and supports navigation without internet for india....
Apart from Sygic, i am not aware of any navi app utilizing gps only navigation. Basically, any navi app would need to download mapping data upon initial installation. That is how the app would not require internet to navigate... With sygic, it is a one time download of 350 mb, u can try downloading from 3g.

You can use Navfree for offline navigation. The app is free also!

Navigation works only in mumbai and bangalore, not in the rest of the cities. Due to "security reasons" Indian government doesn't allow it. Now dont ask me why its available in bangalore and mumbai as they are also part of India, I aint got a clue man. The government of this country is screwed up. But yeah only mumbai and bangalore

aFirewall weird new permission

Latest aFirewall (call blocking software) update has 2 new permissions, one of them I can understand since its related to app purpose:
INTERCEPT OUTGOING CALLS
Allows the app to process outgoing calls and change the number to be dialed. Malicious apps may monitor, redirect, or prevent outgoing calls.
But there's a second permission that I dont see its purpose:
RETRIEVE RUNNING APPS
Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. Malicious apps may discover private information about other apps.
What's in this version:
3.6.0:
1. Update application icon;
2. Add running info display and shortcut;
3. Fix two FCs;

Anyone knows if this permission is really necessary?
Thank you

-.-
I can see that, but what does this do? Why does a call blocking app needs this?
To identify malicious apps running in the background, I assume?
It used to identify if BackupToEmail is installed in your phone. Thanks.

Shouldn't need any special permission to determine if a specific package is installed.

Use faster fix if you want to configure WiFi region
doesnt faster fix just allow to set a custom NTP server for AGPS?

It just sets the region pool, which I'm guessing is what he was possibly trying to do, back in the day it was how you did it, by editing GPS configuration.xml
ok thx for the replies, ya probably if the phone works everything is fine

[Q] Google Now not working

Hey there guys, my google now is not functioning at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the updates, changing roms, using a vpn server etc. Nothing I've tried has worked so far and I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions
Did it ever work with this phone? Which ROMs have you tried? Is it installed from Gapps or the Play store?

Are u using a language that is supported by Google Now? As far as i know, they are deutsch, english, espanol, français, italiano, nederlands, portugues, russian and some far east stuff. You can change its language to these ones from settings.
Still isn't working
Hey guys thanks for the responses. I've reflashed gapps and changed roms a couple times and it still doesn't ask me if I want to use google now or show any cards. I'm starting to believe it may be an issue with my location as I'm located in the Caribbean and some Google services don't work here .

'google now is not functioning' doesnt makes sense to me..it would be better if you explain your problem in detail like
what error are you facing!
any force close or some thing!
are you able to open google now atleast for a sec!
which version! (leaked kitkat one or normal one) etc
you see that would make others figure out where problem is and provide Screenshot if possible.
Ok guys first off thanks for being patient. I'm still a bit of a newbie. My problem is that I cannot use Google now at all. I didn't get the option to select if "I'm in" when I first started google search. My search doesn't display any cards or such info and I don't have the option to turn google now off either. I have my language set to English(US). I'm currently using the unofficial CM11 KitKat ROM. It stop working while I was using CrDroid build 22 which is a 4.3 jellybean ROM.

Google search and launcher you are using, are linked with each other. You cannot turn off GSearch and use that launcher together.
Generally cards doesnt show up when you are not signed in with a google account.
Are you logged in through a google account? If yes, can you share a screenshot of what happens when you press mic button and when you type something to search!
Ok so here's what happens when I touch the mic and type what I'm searching for respectively. I also added a screenshot of my location settings.

So the thing is that google now doesn't know where you are, am i right? Which aspect of google now do you want to work? For example; When you set a meeting from google calendar and tell google now: "What is my next meeting?" does it work or not? Can you try that and get back please.
I would really like if the cards would show some info. That isn't happening. I've added screenshots of my general use google search including a scheduled event.
