That "picasa" sync option you talk about is in only available in the GoogleGallery.apk (not in the one originally released by Huawei).
Try the attached APK that I have extracted it for you from here:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
You will end up with two Gallery applications, so "deactivate" or "uninstall" the old one (smaller in size).
Hope you can install this independently from the rest. Try it !
If it doesn't work this way you can manually replace the complete "gapps" package above (need "root" privileges) or if you want to make it easier flash my HWMOD C232B005 firmware which have that feature included and tested working

Is the standard gallery in hmp should work with Picasa, anyway tried the apk but cannot install the file.
Pretty strange I think, working fine on my phones...

It works flawlessly on my phone and tablet too.
The problem is with the GAPPS versions, there is only one version that has a working "GoogleBackupTransport" (used to sync various Google applications).
Installing the complete gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip will grant you success.
At this point I have no other suggestion other than installing HWMOD C232B005 which already comes with that functionality installed.

*** Archos Devices Only ***
This includes only the Market, Calendar, Talk, GenieWidget and "required gSync" files. Any apps that are in the Froyo Market are NOT included. Honestly, this is better as it makes a smaller appInstaller package and its more compatible.
You can download the following from the Market -- Gmail, VoiceSearch, YouTube and Maps(Navigation)
SUMMARY
v5-Stable -- (recommended!)
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
WARNING: If you've installed this or other gApps installers, you may have to RESET to successfully install gAppInstaller.
Note: You may get an error when you first open the Market, ignore the error. It may also take a few minutes before the Market updates from 2.09 to the current version.
Download - http://code.google.com/p/archos-apps-installer/downloads/list
Copy download to your device via USB (if you didnt download directly using your Archos)
Use 'Files' app to locate gAppsInstaller, then execute/install it
Choose install core apps or choose to install your own packaged 'apps.zip' file located on the internal drive (not sdcard). There maybe a short delay after you tap an install button (its installing and you'll be notified when its done, about 5-10 seconds)
REBOOT!!
Sign into Market (Google Account Login)
Follow the Market FIX instructions below
MARKET FIX:
This will get you most missing apps from the market, except some "protect market apps" like NYTimes.
Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Market (Clear Cache then 'Force Stop' -- DO NOT clear data)
Setting-->Manage Applications-->All-->Google Services Framework (Clear data then 'Force Stop')
REBOOT again
Market Fix video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-nySibzeA&feature=player_embedded#!
If you do this correctly you will find most missing apps like 'Copilot Live USA' in the Market. However, some apps require certain features (like a GPS or Cell chip) and will not show up in the Market. Basically, if you search for application "MyGPS" and "MyGPS" is coded to REQUIRE a GPS chip, then the Android market will NOT show this app in the Market for our Archos Device because is lacks a GPS chip.
MARKET LANGUAGE FIX (unverified):
Once you install the Market, it will probably be in English only. You may be able to fix this by putting your device into English via Settings menu, then put the device back into whatever other language you require.
RESET DEVICE:
Follow these instructions to reset your Archos Gen8: http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=42437&start=0
12/23/2010:
v5 released and appears stable. This is the last froyo version since the Market auto-updates and NetworkLocation works.
kenyu73 - Thanks for the update, could you possibly test a couple of apps for me before I wipe and load this up?
TweetDeck
Slingplayer
Moblox
Those have never worked correctly on your build and I use them pretty regularly. Thanks! Looking forward to results.

Both Tweetdeck and Moblox-Lite open without any FC's. I couldn't find Slingplayer in the market.
Awesome. I'll have to wipe and rebuild with this tomorrow then. Thanks!
any reason to re-install from v3?
I used your v3 (thank you very much!) - it worked well. I have Market + select Google apps on my A70.
I'm still missing some apps on Market that I'm unable to find no matter what, even after following "the procedure" - LauncherPro, AWDLauncher, etc. Frankly I can sideload most apps anyhow.
Is there any point/reason in installing v4? (I'm hoping for a "no")?
Kenyu you are the man!

There are some "protected" apps that we'll never see. However, I can find LauncherPro(free) as well as ADW.Launcher(by AnderWeb) just fine.
kenyu73, Thanks for your updates.
My A70 will arrive in tomorrow and look forward to implement your guide soon.
Please keep on fine-tuning it and share with us.
Bit the bullet and loaded up the new app installer. It works perfectly. No more force closes on tweetdeck or when logging into the xda app. Thanks for this.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the v4 is really the final stable version. I've been using it all day today and not one single Market FC and I can find all apps in the Market (except protected apps). I did have to do the Market fix though.
The next issue I'd like to fix is the Voice Search GUI issue. The GUI interface isn't as clean as my cell phone, but I'm not sure if that's even fixable. Even though we install Voice Search directly from the Market, it still just sucks!!
Just a short note:
If you have already rooted your device with z4root a reboot is never reasonable.
To avoid lossing the root (which can of cource be reinstalled using z4root again) you can use the App HotReboot. This app reboots the device but the "root" still exists!
BTW: Thanks for your work!!!!

excellent - thankyou kenyu
one question from a newbi
when i follow the link - I see an apk and two zip files
how do i use the two zip files ? appsinstaller and apps
thanks Stephen
Just use the apk file.
The apps.zip is just the apks that you should download from market, and the zipped installer is the source codes. If you just want to install the installer, then only the apk should matter to you.

All the apps in the zip files should be down-loadable from the Market directly. That zip is only there for people who cant download some apps because of their country of origin (like Maps). Some may use it so they don't have to download those apps.
Best bet is to install the core apps via the installer, reboot then d/l that apps you want from the Market.

I'd reboot again. However, it could be your internet connection. My Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S) doesn't that sometimes.
Did you install over an existing Market install or was this a fresh install? If it was a re-install, as my instructions said, best bet is to do a reset and start over.
i decided to load some apks in the .system folder to see if i could get it to load my own apks to save me less time.. and in the process using this gapps apk vs the one with the GUI glitch worked very well.. like how i can download my own youtube etc so i have the choice of which google apps i want
These are the only apks that can be pushed to the froyo/system/app folder. Archos put the apk reference aliases (prefixed with a 0) into the read-only '/system/app' knowing we'd manually add them to the read/write test folder. Anything else in the app folder is ignored.
If Archos didn't do this, I doubt we'd even have Market access until the devce was fully rooted.

I am using the dsixda kitchen to build ROMs for my Desire HD. I have built a few ROMs now and on the whole they have worked OK. However there area few apps that are out of date and a few I would like by default. I know I can download the majority of them from the market but I would like them just there by default. I know apps get updated all the time so I will never get perfection so bear with me.
I have sucessfully added ASTRO, HandyCalc, ROM Manager SMS Backup & Restore and VISIONary+ and these work fine. I have also updated the .apk's for Facebook to 1.8.1, Google Maps to 6.0.3, Twitter to 3.0.0, YouTube to 2.3.4 & GMail to 2.3.5.2.
Now heres my problem - If I try to update Adobe Reader to 10.1.1 by replacing the AdobeReader.apk with the latest one it doesn't work. Once the ROM is built and installed I can see the .apk is there in /system/app however there is no icon in All Apps for Adobe Reader and I can't open .pdf's.
I also use Google Goggles & Skype, however if I add these .apk's to the ROM they appear to be installed and start OK however Goggles crashes as soon as the camera is started from the app and Skype lets you run through the initial setup but then says the app needs reinstalling.
Is there something I am missing or are there apps that can't be updated and others that can't be included in ROMs?

My guess is your using these apps in /system/app? If so keep in mind that most apps are built for /data/App. Sometimes applications act funny on system. If they are not on the system and on the data then that's just strange.

I was looking into that but I thought you needed extra script commands to get these recognised during 1st-time boot? At the moment I have these apps installed via the market, however I can't find where they are on the phone - I am using Astro to view/search and can't find the updated Adobe Reader, however it is installed.
I think I might be missing some fundamental stuff here...

Then you can also check and see if installed to the sdcard maybe?
/data is empty. On the sdcard there is an 'Android' folder and in here is a /data folder that has other folders (com.android.providers.media, com.facebook.katana, com.google.android.apps.books, com.google.android.apps.maps).
I have enabled hidden files in Astro (but it could be a limitation of Astro?). Astro has an application backup option that allows me to backup any of these added applications into .apk files and then restore them later.

/data shows empty when you try and view it with astro...

I found this post whilst searching - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654739#
In there FireSokar mentions adding some lines to the update script. For the Desire HD it is an updater-script and the format/syntax is different can someone tell me what I need to add to the updater-script and where it should be put (at the very end, somewhere in the middle etc?)
Thanks

I am hoping someone can help me out. (noob). I installed AOKP JB-MR1 Milestone 2 Android 4.2.2 Custom Rom

The problem I have is that there is no contacts folder in the build & no Backup Assistant. other verizon apps are there so...anyway, I really want to be able to load my contacts into a "contact" folder. With these newer Android versions, Google has renamed their default "Contacts" to "People".
That's probably why you never found any of your contacts, as you put it, in the 'Contacts folder' - which used to be the App called "Contacts"
If you don't have either; then you might not have any GApps (Google Apps) package installed. Install that first.
(I haven't tried the ROM you've tried, so I don't know if it ships with the GApps package or not)
Hope this helped.

First of all ROOT is required for it and as root you can kill your device so don't do any thing silly and blame me after it if you broke something
I want to keep my phone as google free as possible so i primary use F-droid¹ for software and Owncloud² to sync contacts and calendar with DAVdroid³
Sadly F-Droid do not have a replacement for everything so i have to install Play Store manual and upon android 4.4 i had some problems with it, but it is just as easy as before you just a little bit different
Grab you the latest gapps maybe here,
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps
extract the file and copy PhoneSky.apk, GoogleServicesFramework.apk GoogleLoginService.apk and PrebuiltGmsCore.apk to /system/priv-app/ on your device
and set permissions to 644 or in words
"read" for owner, group and other
"write" for owner
now reboot and you can open Play Store and add your google account and happy buying
The first things i would do after it stop all updates so that google map will not upgrade to version 7 (i dont like it) disable all customised advertisement and auto update and everything else what can be disable
Now if you are happy enough to own your own webspace (preferred with https) install owncloud² on it and DAVdroid³ on your device and be happy that google dont know all your contacts and appointments
If you don’t have a webspace you can install owncloud² on your PC at home and sync your devices with it or you use some dynamic dns (i suggest to have a internet flat rate and a good firewall than) and you can sync from everywhere too.
I hope this is of interest for anyone and if necessary i can make it a bit more detailed.

Hi dark-wulf, and thanks for your guide !
I have a Samsung Nexus S I9023 running CyanogenMod 11 M6, and when I reboot my phone after following your guide (there's no PrebuiltGmsCore.apk so I'm using GmsCore.apk instead), I'm stuck at the boot animation.
The only ways to be able to go past it is to either :
1- Reflash a ROM
2- Use AROMA file manager from recovery to delete the aforemontionned .apk files.
Hi all and thanks for the guide!
I installed CM 11 on my Nexus 4 and then installed the required apk (as you explain) to get play store on my phone without all other google service.
It works fine but when I upgrade CM 11 to a new release I lose play store. Is it Ok?
If I install the complete Gapp, I don't lose nothing when upgrading to a new CM 11 release.
What should be the problem?

Hi luca_vs,
I've been using CM11 since M6, and managed to get it working by putting the following files in /system/priv-app (permissions 644 = rw-r--r-- for user:group = root:root) :
GmsCore.apk
GoogleLoginService.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Phonesky.apk
And then installing each .apk file in that order (you need to authorize installation from unknown sources first or you'll get a rather unexplicit error otherwise). Reboot when it's done just to be sure.
I've never had to reinstall those files after using CM's integrated updater. Just how did you upgrade yours ?

Hi breversa,
I upgrade CM from settings -> about phone -> Cyanogenmod update
I'm using the nightly series... should it be the problem?
I've stopped using nightlies, as Mx releases are stable enough for me.
It might be because of nightlies that you have this problem, tought I doubt it. But come to think of it : maybe the /system partition gets wiped when upgrading to a nightly release, and that would explain why you need to reinstall GApps everytime.
You may want to head over to the CM forum/wiki/G+ to check this out.
Alternatively, install an older M release, install GApps (the way you want), then upgrade to a later M release, and see what happens !

Unfortunatelly it continue to delete play store when upgrading from M8 to M9 .
Now I'm investigating why...
Thanks for you help!
Here's precisely what I did after a clear, fresh install of CyanogenMod 11 M11 :
Your device needs to be rooted.
Download the appropriate Google Apps (I used the latest gapps-kk-20140105-signed.zip).
Extract the following files from the archive :
GmsCore.apk
GoogleLoginService.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Phonesky.apk
On your device, go to Settings/Security (or wherever it is) and check Allow installation from unknown sources. Otherwise, you'll get a rather unexplicit error message when trying to install the apk files.
Copy the previous apk files to /system/priv-apps, and DO NOT REBOOT your phone until you've finished the current procedure, or you'll be stuck at the boot animation and will have to either reflash your phone or delete the aforementionned apk files using a recovery file manager (I use Aroma FM).
Change their owner and group to root (= UID 00000). Actually, changing the group may not be necessary, but that way it's consistent with the other files in that directory.
Change their permissions to rw-r--r-- (= 644).
Install each apk. I did it in alphabetical order and there was no problem.
Reboot your phone.
If everything went fine, you should now have access to the Play Store without any extra Google component, especially not those pesky contacts/calendar/apps synchronizations.
Thread necromancy warning !
I've started using PA-GAPPS to install Play Store on my latests devices : http://forum.xda-developers.com/paranoid-android/general/5-1-x-5-0-x-4-4-x-pa-gapps-mirror-t3069879.
The original developer apparently retired and documentation has been moreless lost in the process, but the pico module only needs some slight tweaking.
Thought it might come in handy.
Step 1: Obtain root access
Step 2: Download your favorite Root enabled File Manager
Step 3: Download the latest Gapps from your favorite host.
Step 4: Extract the following files from the flashable archive
/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar;
/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml;
Step 5: Copy the two files to the respective directories on your device using Root enabled File Manager.
(Gapps archive)/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar to (device)/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar
(Gapps archive)/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml to (device)/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml
Step 6: Set the permissions of both files to 644
Step 7: Restart Device
Step 8: Install Google Plus

I suspect similar lib/framework files will work on fixing other apps that aren't compatible with the EMUI flavor of android.
2nd Google account is not possible with any current 503L or 501U ROM.
Workaround with setting up second account via Google+ is a cludge. No contact sync and no secure access.
If nobody knows, I will test next weekend.
thanks for sharing
my device is on the same ROM as yours
I don't use g+ but I have some issues with other google services
though I couldn't manage to replace .Jar files by root explorer but I replaced some files in "priv-app" folder with the same one from flashable gapps and it works perfectly
@mru55
Thanks for giving context to the 2nd google account issue.
I suspect this has to do with the huawei modified play store. We will need to flash gapps via custom recovery or make the modifications to the update.app file manually. Something I will be working on once a final release is out maybe sooner.
I could get Google+ to install but it doesn't work. It tell me I need to uninstall and reinstall the app, but the play store still says its incompatible.
The Google+ APK from the CM KitKat GAPPS is 6 years old, so maybe I just need to find a newer APK.
Yup, that was it, I downloaded Google+ 4.5 and it installed just fine. Nice....
Can you set up a second Google account? And see both in Google Calendar?
eh... i dont do all these to obtain google services.. i just download google services and play store.. af first it couldnt work, but after awhile it worked. it could even auto update my apps! no.more 'your phone req google services' error.msg!

how i wished my note 3 dual sim china ver is as easy as this! samsung very troublesome to have playstore, it doesnt work no.matter wat i tried.
