I recently purchased a 32GB S3 from my local retailer. In South Africa we have 3 major mobile networks who bring in the phones to SA. My headset is a Vodacom headest, it has no provider branding on the phone itself, just a short screen at bootup that says Vodacom. But it can be used on other networks.
I recently read the Galaxy S3 has had a software update, however my phone doesn't seem to be able to download it yet. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make the phone get the latest updates, like international users. I'm not really interested in having a custom rom because the S3 touchwiz UI seems fine to me.
So would I need to do something that would void the warranty of the phone to get the latest software updates?
what error it shows while updating ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
No error, when I check for updates it says there are non available. So I'm guessing Vodacom hasn't put the new update on their system?
I am on the same boat, I bought an international version of S3 from amazon. And using t-mobile sim in usa but no update here trying for last 2 days nothing.
Is this cause my phone in the usa or what!!

Simply download the latest ROM from XDA which is XXBLFB and flash using ODIN. This will not void your warranty but you should find a copy of the original VODACOM ROM so that if you want to send in your ROM for service they will not know that you flashed a non VODACOM ROM.

It depends which country the phone is from. Perhaps it hasn't had an update yet or perhaps you already have the latest version. Check by going to settings>about phone.

Thanks will try that, would I need to backup the device? I have quite a bit of data on it. Is there a good chance I will lose all of it if I flash with the lastest ROM ?

Latest updates join XDA Developers and flash stock rom for your location .

As far as i know, flashing with Odin increases your flash counter and void your warranty.
But this can be reversed with "triangle away" but u need root to use it..
Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
At least that was the case with gs2.

1) That is branded so the updates would come from vodacom, not from Samsung direct
2) The Update you refer to is XXBLBF.
According to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356325
XX = Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom
So only those countries get this particular update. There should be a JA one for South Africa soon, but you won't get that until it's been through vodacom most likely.

Hi All,
This might be a silly question, however here it goes.
I just recently bought a Galaxy S2 from Vodafone Australia and was wondering If I am able to install any version of the custom ROM's available given my PDA, Phone and CSC numbers are different?
I basically dont want to install a ROM and then realise that I just screwed up my phone because I used software that is not made for my region.
I come from a HTC Desire HD where it really didn't matter what radio or firmware you ran as it was all the same (mostly), however with the Samsung Galaxy S2 you have different PDA, Phone and CSC settings which is a little different I believe?
FYI - I have rooted my phone using the CF root method, however did not replace the original Vodafone software because I was worried I might screw something up by flashing another ROM.
Here are mine below:
PDA: I9100TDUKF4
PHONE; I9100TDUKF4
CSC: 19100TVAUKF4
Build Info: Wed, June 29 17:28:38 KST 2011
Thanks for your help.
Your voda rom is available in the official carrier firmware thread by intratech. DUK4 pda/phone, VAUKF4 csc, so flash on I say.
csc matters less than pda and phone, nothing wrong with mixing and matching as you can flash them all independently
How did you get on with this gekrem? I am pondering whether or not to root and flash mine. I definitely want root, but am unsure about flashing etc as I don't want an expensive brick ruining my warranty... Was the rooting process relatively straight forward?
I moved from a JBd iPhone 3GS to FINALLY get into Android (and loving it), so I am sure I am capable, but there just seems to be a lot more warnings with android about fux'n everything up then there was with real risks with the iPhone.
I am also in the unfortunate position of having a Voda GS2, and using the Telstra network - so a bit unsure of how/if that will changes things RE flashing modems and what not.
Cheers
EDIT: I have been a long time lurker in these forums, just never had anything worth posting, hence my deplorable post count
The sgs2 is pretty fool proof with regards to flashing, it's very hard to brick.
The only people who have bricked so far have flashed sgs1 aka i9000 firmware and pit's aka reformatted there storage to be like a galaxy s1.
Just stay away from the pit file and read first to make sure you are flashing something for the right phone.
Your warranty is void, but at the same time if you flash back to stock and use a usb jig to reset the flash counter you should be able to get hardware problems fixed, i haven't seen any horror story's about people being turned down for replacements due to custom roms yet but ymmv.
As far as modems again its pretty unbrick able, i have seen someone flash a galaxy s1 modem on and fix it just by flashing a Correct one again, but again be careful and make sure you know what you are Flashing before you do it.
Before you do anything its a good idea to backup your efs folder, there's guides howto and even apps that's can do it for you, this means if something goes wrong and you lose your imei its fixable.
Root is easy, just flash the correct cf root kernel with odin, the thread how a full howto.
You can start by flashing a newer stock rom, there is a thread with all of them and howto flash it.
Very easy and won't take more than 10min. Again root with a cf root kernel.
From there you can flash custom roms, there's loads in the dev section, custom kernels, and anything.
Modems are very country and area specific and you will have to find out which is best for you on your own, maybe start with the newest, kh3, and work backwards, any radio will work with any rom.

Thanks vekya - confirms everything I have read, but always apprehensive with a nice new phone
I have read over the CF Root thread, and it doesn't seem hard, but I so still have a few loose ends I wanted cleared up before I proceed with rooting. Plus I am waiting for my jig to arrive off of ebay, just in case.
And once it's rooted, I am pretty sure I would end up flashing a custom ROM (I like the look and sound of Lite'ning Rom, but need to really have a good look around. A lot of people seem to be using Villain, so that needs a looksee also
Thanks, and sorry for semi-hijack gekrem
I know how you feel, i was reading for a good week before I even got the phone!

To be honest, I flashed a few ROMS and ended up deciding to go back to the Stock Vodafone ROM.... 2.3.4 performed very slow compared to my friends SG2 Vodafone 2.3.3..(screen was not very responsive when tapping, lagged a little, network connection was not as strong).
With the Vodafone ROM I'm getting around 1 day and 22 hours of battery life as with the 2.3.4 I was struggling to get 18 hours...big difference so I decided to go back
What I did end up doing however was ROOTING my SG2 with the Vodafone software, that worked a treat!

NOTE: you should read as much as you can about others experience rooting the i9100t first before going ahead. I have the i9100 and have never done anything on the i9100t.
As far as I know You can mix and match kernels with roms and modems but to keep "near" stock I'd start with just the rooted kernel. the one that has KH1 in the filename on post 5. Just follow the instructions exactly using Odin and you will be rooted in just a few minutes.
Prob move onto nimpo's kernel later to allow under clocking/volting.
Edit: this is what im running but im on Optus.

i've tried a lot of roms after i've got the voda australia, i've settled on the criskelo rom. i would be more than happy to have CM7 but it doesn't work with a bluetooth headset which is a basic requirement for my car stereo. but yeah i had the same doubts as a few of u folks but its pretty easy, BTW dont forget to get your usb jig, its a life saver and gets rid of the golden (caution) triangle after u root.
GPS, etc. all works fine
hope this helped
PS: use the CF-root method, then get the XF3 (or ur current kernel from "about phone") from one of the rooting threads, and off u go Unlocking is free if u've bought it on a plan so dont bother using the nv_data.bin method.
If in doubt - there'z no better way then to try it out ..
Hi guys can anyone tell where to find a unsecure kernel for DUKF4 ? or can i use any ???
Also i want to get rid off vodafone apps on my I900oT (eg: demo rubbish & good food guide) with a unbranded rom from any telcos ???
Sorry if use your thread to ask this Q's....
Need Help!
Hi I am a complete noob at all of this stuff and desperately need help, I have no idea either to flash or root in order to achieve the results I want, and the firmware I have doesn't seem to be available on the intratech page.
I want to be able to remove all of the Vodafone bloatware and to be able to update my firmware as soon as they are released on the global server, is that possible? Because Vodafone have been immensely slow releasing firmware updates and it is getting unbearable.
My current firmware is:
PDA: I9100TDUKH1
PHONE: I9100TTDUKF4
CSC: I9100TVAUKG2
Please be as simple as possible and link me to the how to's I need if possible.
And sorry for being the biggest noob on this site lol, I have been with Apple for the last 3 years.
Thanks
I also a have Vodafone Galaxy S2 GT-I9100T. Details below:
My current firmware is:
PDA: I9100TDUKH1
PHONE: I9100TTDUKF4
CSC: I9100TVAUKG2
I have rooted it and have used 4 different ROMS:
Criskelo
Cyanogen
Ginger 237 and
CodecROM
All 4 gave me the same issue. Would work fine while I am connected to my wifi at home. As soon as I would leave my home and my Wifi was out of range I would start to get massive battery drain (last me half a day from full charge while phone is on idle). It's as if it was working hard trying to stay connected to the mobile network. It would also feel warm. I tried using the correct modem driver (I9100TTDUKF4), tried switching my Wifi off using Y5 Battery Saver. Tried different Kernels all with no success. Can anyone advise if they are experiencing the same issue with their GT-I9100T?
Would love to get to the bottom of this.
Hi all,
New to Android, I following this link to upgrade it to 2.3.6 - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/update-galaxy-s2-to-android-2-3-6-xxkl1-firmware/
Since I have done this I can not connect my phone to a PC. It fails all the time, I untick the USB debugging and tick it and still does not connect.
Is there a original rom out there that I can use, or a way for it to connect.

I have the S2 on the Telecom New Zealand XT network.
It was behaving well, until a few days ago, when it decides to lose the network and say No Sim Card or stays in Flight Mode and takes a long time to reconnect.
Thinking the Modem I have is wrong, but I am not an expect on what is the latest version.
I think this is a related problem
So. Two days ago, My international Galaxy SII (I9100, running 2.3.4) informed me that there was a firmware upgrade waiting for me. So, like a total dummy (dummy, dummy, dummy), I agreed to update. when it was done, I returned to my home page, only to be informed that my micro SD card has been damaged and I need to reformat it. I do know that SD cards sometime punk out, but I also know one shouldn't believe everything one reads. So, I took the card out of the phone and put it into a card reader on my PC.] (win 7) Well, waddya know. The PC can read every file just fine. So, I copied everything on that card to a folder on my PC. Then I stuck a new 16 GB card into the phone. Phone still thinks it's the same card. (I know this because there's nothing on the new card, but the phone shows me the list of apps on the original 16 GB card.) So, I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with the micro sd card. There is something wrong with that firmware upgrade. So now, I'd like to go forward or back--just get rid of this firmware version. But, not only don't I know where to look for whatever firmware version I'm now running, but I have no idea how to find a different one and replace the evil new firmware. BTW, I was running Android version 2.3.4 before the firmware upgrade and I'm still running 2.3.4 after the firmware upgrade. Yet another thing I don't understand
Before any of this came up, I had scheduled that I'd root my phone today. Don't have to have ICS--just wanted root because I want more control over my phone than unrooted gives you. Now, I don't know whether to go on and root it, or solve the SD card problem first.
Thanks!

TG, you most likely have the i9100T and you've probably flashed i9100 firmware. No problems there but you need to reflash a T modem over the top to get decent reception. There are plenty to choose from in the Aussie thread in general. From experience it doesn't really matter which provider modem you choose, so long as its for the T model.

Not 100% sure but I think you need yo be rooted to backup the efs folder. Some custom kernals do it automatically but I use root explorer and copy/paste the folder to my external memory card then later to PC.
Also, before you do flash a T modem just confirm you have the T model. Best way is to check the sticker under the battery. The reason I say that is because if, like me you have i9100 firmware it will show as i9100 when booting and in settings/about phone. So check under the battery.

Ok I have got my phone up and running got the following on it for the time being
PDA - XWKL1
Phone - XXKL1
CSC - I9100TTNZKH1
So I recently bought Samsung Galaxy S2, coming from iPhone it's quite tricky when it comes to firmwares. My phone is the I9100G white model and I accidentally tried to flash the I9100 ICS firmware update.. But after researching on the net I was able to flash it back to the GingerBread firmware via Odin software. My query is that will I be able to get and install official firmwares from Samsung or not directly through KIES, if not than how can I shift back to the original firmware for my device which would work on KIES update.. Lastly has ICS been released for I9100G model as yet or not??? Your help would be much appreciated..!!
ics has not yet been released for the original firmware 9100g need to know from which country the sgs2
It's a UK Handset!

I9100 SGS2 is international version and doesn`t matter from which country you bought
I9100G isn't distributed by any of the networks in the UK or even sold direct by any major retailer (well, maybe one). You should be able to check your IMEI somewhere like here to see where it's from.
ROM
Can you recommend any other custom ROM for I9100G model.. I have come across many ROMs for the I9100 but not the I9100G one..

If you haven't flashed custom ROMs or updated your firmware yet, your build number in the About Phone screen will (sort of ) tell you. It's a code that can be deciphered.
What is the build number?
type keyboard *2767*4387264636#
Build Number..

XW is a generic Europe code that could be many countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Nordic, Spain, United Kingdom).
LA1 means it was build 1 in January of 2012.
I believe you can further narrow down what country by finding your CSC by typing *#1234# into your dialer.
is india or bangladesh
I think you should be able to flash through Kies when you revert to the stock ROM. Here is a list of official I9100 firmware, I guess you could find yours in there.

Sorry. Made an a** of myself . My bad.
I missed in the first post of the thread where he said he flashed back to a stock firmware, so my suggestion was voided, since it was no longer the original firmware that shipped with his phone.

Yea exactly, thats what i want to know how can you revert back to the original firmware that would work with KIES..
Sent from my GT-I9100G using XDA
Two options.
1) Original firmware that came with phone; search for said firmware on Samfirmware.com, flash according to any instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site.
2) Latest stock firmware you'd normally get via Kies; get the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on XDA/Google). This will allow you to download the latest firmware for your phone/carrier/country that you'd normally get via Kies (might be the same firmware which came with the phone, depends on whether carrier has pushed a firmware update since or not). Flash this firmware you download following the instructions in Intratech's firmwares threads on here.

So for those of you that got your S3 with TMobile branded firmware you'll realise how stupid it is.
I wanted to know if I flash it with unbranded firmware will that mean I won't be elegible for updates via Kies and via OTAs. (So even though I will now have the option to get OTAs, I wont be able to?)
Also if the answer to the above is Yes, is there any way to get around this and if no what am I doing wrong because my updates via Kies is not working.

I believe you can simply debrand it by flashing a stock firmware version with odin.

Possible but not 100%

There has to be an actual update for YOUR phone on the Kies server as its TMobile ask them .
Why not join XDA Developers and flash stock roms on release .

The only unbranded firmware that I know of is for the international version. If there is unbranded firmware for the TMO version it would be somewhere in the US forums, not here. And you cant go flashing an international version rom on a TMO GS3. different processor, modems etc...Unless you want a brick

Why would TMobile send their firmware to the USA for TMobile UK customers to download .
TMob UK firmware is as usually in the stock /branded roms threads on SGS3 I9300 International forum that is this one .
The T-Mobile brand is present in 11 European countries – Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany (as Telekom), Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom – as well as the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

You didn't specify what country you were talking about. I dont know which variant TMO Europe has, but the US TMO version is dual core snapdragon. If TMO EU has the i9300 then you could flash international roms, but if it's the same as the TMO US variant you cannot flash international i9300 roms on it

I have a T-Mobile S3 and got fed up with kies saying no update so I just rooted and flashed wanamlite, not looked back since. Although I did take a nandroid back backup of stock firmware first for version references.
Regards
Jack
P.s all uk based T-Mobile S3's are GTi9300 that I have come across
Hi,
Can anyone help me please? Trying to return to stock firmware before I sell my SII.
I have followed this guide: http://www.androidnz.net/2012/01/restoring-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-back.html
Up to the stage where you flash the firmware with Odin, I have tried two different firmwares which I believe to be correct but they do not seem to be compatible with Kies so they can't be the stock firmware.
I have tried this firmware: https://androidfirmwares.net/PhoneFirmware/Download/118
I am currently on this firmware: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9100&pcode=CPW&os=1&type=1#firmware (UK CPW 4.0.4 PDA I9100XWLPT)
Both of which give this message in Kies:

So I'm trying to find out which firmware I need to download, but there are so many options on the firmware thread thread I have no idea which one to use. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1075278
I've tried CheckFus, but it says "no firmware info retrieved for given data" as below:
Please can someone tell me which firmware I need to download, all I want is the latest stock UK (preferably unbranded) firmware.
Thank you.
you can download rom for orange UK here

Hmm thanks, but the current firmware I'm on is from there, but the carphone warehouse (unbranded) version rather than orange. I assume it would be the same? Might give it a try anyway..
Bump any other ideas anyone? Why would I be getting that message in Kies?
Your only option is to use the CW stock. Nothing for Orange on Checkfus, I've checked AndroidFirmwares & nothing there either. And the chances of someone with a flashable copy of Orange firmware reading this thread before it disappears into the thousands of other threads which have been posted here in the past is pretty close to zip (and bumping it every day in the hope someone will is futile).
Flash the CW firmware, wipe the phone. Sell it. Done.
You would be wanting to flash 4.0.3,then see if kies offers you 4.0.4.
So Id just use the LP7 then see if it offers LPT.
I use xeu for my unbranded phones,I dont know what cpw is.
And whats the score. Are you trying to make branded phone unbranded or what. Are you selling it on eBay unbranded, what was original software on it.
Will it stay unlocked to other networks as a guy got his phone returned to him after it was supposed to be unlocked.

I would ideally like the phone to be unbranded and unlocked. It was originally on Orange firmware (not sure of version maybe 2.3.x or similar).
I can't really remember how I unlocked the phone, I think it was using an app (It currently has a 3 SIM in it, and it works), so I think it will stay unlocked regardless of firmware.
CPW = Car Phone Warhouse, a phone shop.
I think I will do as you suggest and get the XEU firmware 4.0.3 version from SamFirmware, this one: United Kingdom / Ireland 2012 April 4.0.3 I9100XWLP7 I9100XEULP5
Thanks.
Just flash Gingerbread via ODIN (Download From SamMobile.Com) and then update via OTA or KIES , it will surely work make sure you are flashing your region's stock gingerbread ROM via ODIN It will surely work
Yeah just flash any of the gb listed or the 4.0.3.Stay away from the 4.0.4 as thats the latest....so presumably kies wouldnt offer an update if your on that(I dont use kies as no need to).
Youve not said who/where your selling the phone.Just be wary if your listing it as unlocked(unless you use spockys app and check with other sims).....lol

Not sure where I will be selling it yet but thanks for the advise, going to try flashing the 4.0.3 firmware soon I'll let you know how it goes.
Edit: Believe it or not, I just did a factory reset on the phone and now when connected to Kies it says I am on the latest firmware and no update is available. I'll stick with this firmware then. Thanks for the advice all
