I'm using a Sandisk ultra microSd XC 1 Class 10 64gb(straight from the box).
After flashing the r8 kernel and when my phone prepares the sd card, my phone reboots.
Anyone knows why?
Problems with exfat modules loading.
Read the thread.

r7:
* ExFAT modules are now being loaded
* Increased USB charging rate from 450 to 600
* Some little ramdisk tweaks
so i assumed that all was fine, thanks anyway.

It says the sd card is not mounted

Sounds like the mount point issue. The mount points for the internal/external SD cards on your rom & the build of Siyah you're using differ.
Try Siyah V3.1rc6. That should solve the problem (yes Gokhan has fixed the issue which caused several people's phones to brick yesterday).
Hello,
I transfered word document and other files on to my kingsten 2gb card. But my astro file manager does not show it? It shows up in my settings menu and says I'm using 200MBA of storage in SD card but does not show up in fold manager. Its formatted in exfat. Is that the problem ?

If you're using the stock kernel exfat is fine. As far as I know none of the current custom kernels are reading exfat (at the moment).
Your physical sdcard as opposed to the virtual one is located at /mnt/extsdcard.
I had a similar issue with ROmaur rom - moved back to omega... didn't seem to give me any such issues...
Ended up flashing a rooted stock kernel and it worked fine.

Hi guys i want to format my micro sd card 32GB class 10 from Gskill.
So the question is initially it had FAT32 as its file system format i think so should i stick to that or use one of the following EXFAT or EXT4 ?
What are the advantages and disadvantages if any? Thanks.
Exfat will stop it working on some custom roms (possibly all) completely.
Ext 4 will completely prevent windows seeing it, fat 32 is the completely universal format and should be fine unless you are using single files 4GB and over.

Perfect, thank you

Weird enough suddenly I found all my external SDCard files have all permissions like:
---rwxr-x
Why !?? This happens to every file I copy onto it.
I needed them like:
rwxrwxr-x
so far, the only rough and long way I found is through Aromafilemanager and PhilzTouch recovery.
Yet I have to change the permissions one file at a time.
Can anybody help?
Sounds like a problem unique to you, I've never heard of it.
Flash the official stock rom, format your sd card in your pc using the industry formatting tool and test.
If the problem disappears then it was probably some combination of your individual setup.
Yep. Also ensure you haven't got any scripts running at startup. Sd permissions are set on boot and cannot be changed afterwards

Thank you, I'll surely restart from the beginning and report back

Which script could do that?

Any mods that mount folders or swap storage.
Otherwise, something built into the rom.

@boomboomer
which filesystem do i have to use in formatting extsdcard 8gb via pc? exFAT / FAT32 / EXT4 / NTFS ?
moreover, in this post and following on dev rom thread, it seems it's a normal behaviour... am i missing sth?
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4
Fat32 is the normal filesytem.
If it's common to your rom then your chef is the best one to approach, he may have set a script or mod.

I read through about 7 pages of sd card issues on the s3 and thought i cant read anymore, so i thought i would just ask. I've just bought an s3 and i got my 64gb sd card from my old phone to my new one. Problem is i have data from other games in the SD and titanium back up files in the externel sd card. Seems the S3 has its own built in SD card and only reads from that. I copied my TB files from externel to the internel. Now the games still require Extra files although they are in the externel SD. So how in the world do i get it to read my Externel sd instead of my internel? I thought of copying the files but i have 16 gb internel, 64 externel so its not gonna work considering i have 39 gb left in my 64 gb one,
Hi,
I have rooted my phone a week back and flashed Cyanogen Mod 10.1 with JB 4.2.2 which is running great on my device. I was looking forward to buy a new 32 gb sd card. The problem is that currently when I download a torrent file that is more than 4 GB, the ttorrent app shows an error notifying that the limit of Fat32 is 4 GB only. I know that but while formatting with ntfs, the device is not able to recognize the card. Is there any solution for it?
You can format your external SD card with ext4 which does not have this limitation and CyanogenMod already supports ext4 formatted SD cards.

Cyanogenmod supports ext4 but what about stock 4.1.2?
I saw same utils for ext4 on /system so it will work on stock?

It will not work on stock. Because, it automatically formats the SD card, if recognizes that it's formatted with anything other than FAT32.

thanx for responses
I did not know that I had to change from mtpo to usb mass storage for formatting. I did it in NTFS and voila the phone is recognizing it. May be the cyanogen developers have added support for ntfs too
Yup, it seems
