go back to stock ROM for non-warranty repair? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi. I dropped the phone today and cracked the screen. am sending it back for an insurance covered repair. as it's not a warranty repair, should I still put a stock ROM back on the phone and factory wipe, or can I keep cyanogen on it?
also, if I do a clockwork backup, can I put the clockwork backup onto a new phone if they decide to replace it?

Cannot Hear in Phone Calls after Unroot?

I recently unrooted my GS2 i777, but now when I make phone calls (calls do actually connect) I cannot hear on either end. No sound sent, no sound received....
any ideas?
What ROM were you on before?

some build of ICS. Not sure exactly. I found how to unroot here http://galaxys2root.com/category/att-galaxy-s2/.
Everything should b stock now...or so i think...
Sounds like you might have the wrong modem installed.

With that unroot file from galaxys2root.com, it had all the files in one .tar (for the PDA slot in Odin) Where would i be able to track down the right modem file?
You could root again and then flash i777 modem and kernel to see if that will help. Are all your touch keys working?
Fyi if you want to unroot, you are beret off useing the sticky on this forum to do so.

Ya all the keys are working just fine. It connects to data, and i can send texts, just no voice.
I'm sorry, I'm admittedly a noob and cannot find it in the stickies....lol
just wondering why you decided to unroot?
Anyways if you are unrooted use this to get root back. If you are 2.3.6 you might want to do some reading to make sure this method will work.

Or if you don't want root, try factory reset.

I don't think anyone has found a way yet. Alot of people have lost it while flashing.

Doesn't exist yet, but many smart developers are looking into it. You can search and find a number of threads open on the subject.
Actually I lied: the efs folder you can backup, but it doesn't appear to contain the imei, assuming that's what you are actually asking for.

Just backup all the folders

Thanks guys. For now I've been flashing kernels do you think this is risky to do when it comes to losing IMEI?

Can someone provide the files and if possible the steps needed to flash my phone back to bone stock.
My screen cracked on my phone so I'm trying to replace my phone through Verizon and the phone is rooted and flashed.
Any help on this situation would be appreciated.

I don't think it matters with the insurance. I think it's only an issue for warranty replacements.

I had mine replaced through insurance because of a damaged screen, I was s-off and it was still running infection at the time. No problems at all.

Dropped phone at work, broke glass. Possibly more. I have the $10 a month at best buy. Do i need to go back to stock? Im going to guess there is a way, i just need to search. Bad luck day, thats not all that has gone wrong. Thought about really crushing it, lol. Get a new one.

They took mine, new DNA on back order. It not here in 2 weeks I get to pick a new phone up to DNA same full price. Today that would have been an s4. Gave me a dinc 2. I already miss flashing roms.

I gotcha. Its was actually very easy to relock, unroot, and go back to stock with correct "flag". Really easy.
