Hello everybody,
First I'd like to thank to community for the hard work. I v read a countless amount of pages of this forum and I can't even imagine the time people spent helping on issues or writing tutorials.
So thank you if you re up to spend few minutes on my specific case (and sorry for the bad english).
Here is my device and the different version of kernel ...
1/ Rooting my device (tutorial in french translated from xda)
http://www.cnetfrance.fr/produits/guide-rooter-son-galaxy-s2-39763841.htm
S-Root version used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Everything went pretty well when I rooted the GS2. I got the Superuser app so i figure it's ok.
I just used a modified kernel found on xda who was corresponding the my base band version (just the PDA in Odin).
2/ Installing a new ROM (Cyanogenmod by Rom Manager)
I followed : http://www.redmondpie.com/install-cm7-on-galaxy-s2-using-rom-manager-how-to-tutorial/ and http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide (official guide) using Rom Manager premium.
When i tried to reboot in Recovery (manually or with Rom Manager), i can't find the "Install the zip" option, I have 4 available: "Update from the zip", the 2 wiping/delete options and the reboot.
So obviously if i try to wipe files, wipe the cache then to update with the zip I have the following Error:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
Do you have any idea what went wrong in the process ?
Should i flash the phone withOdin and change my base band version to another one ?
For info, I did the Permission Fix option in Rom Manager too. Didnt help.
Thanks a lot.
U need clockworkmod instaled first..

You didn't install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Thanks for theses answers but I think I installed it with Rom Manager and i flashed it to the last version.
(joined file 1 : cwm rom manager.jpg)
When i reboot in recovery mode here is the only options available (and it's the problem i pointed out) :
(joined file 2 : 20111125_13221022.jpg)
Maybe a problem with my SD card ?

As we've already said, you haven't installed CWM Recovery. You see at the top of your second photo where it says "Android system recovery (3e)"? That's stock recovery.
you can't install CWM recovery thru ROM manager.
just flash the CF Root Kernel for KI4 thru ODIN , you will have CWM recovery.
Hmm I understand about the CWM version I'm booting with, but as you can see on the first capture, my kernel version is a modified one i got after using Odin (puting this Kernel : GT-I9100_XXKI4_insecure.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671).
I got the root access by S2 Root.
Ok I think I installed only the Kernel and not CF Root available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I ll try to redo Odin and stuff and let you know if I'm still alive.
So it's not great right now. I have installed CF Root with Odin, so I had CWM on my phone (I could see the application). Then after reboot with CWM Recovery and installing Cyanogenmod, the phone doesnt want to start anymore.....
I tried to apply the insecure kernel again with Odin but still impossible to download. I'm stuck on the screen with the yellow sign and written Galaxy S2.
HALP !!
I just tried to put back the official firware version : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and put it in my phone with Odin.
Ok, I dont have the yellow sign anywore but the phone is still stuck on the boot screen (where it's written Samsung GALAXY s II)...
What should I try ?
I'm still able to boot with CWM recovery but I didn't make any backup and nothing work.
Do you think the phone is dead ?
5 posts in a row?
So, just to clarify, you've tried to install CM7, which amongst other things tells you to do a nandroid backup, and also to flash twice in succession. Did you do either of these things? The instructions are there to be followed, don't just ignore them.
Ok my bad I didn't backup anything because I had no data to backup. This was maybe a bad move...
Anyway, I tried to flash it twice yes. Right now, i'm working with a modified Kernel (with CF Root), and booting in CWM Recovery. When I want to flash again by installing from the .zip I get a Satus 7 Error.
In CWM, every advanced options are apparently available but I dont know anything about them.
And just so you know, on my SD Card i have 1 update.zip and the update-cm-7.1.0-Galaxys2.... .zip from Cyanogen.

Flash a stock rom with Odin and then root your phone again. Start reading and follow procedures when you want to flash custom roms again .See Intratechs`s thread for a stock rom
Thanks for your reply.
I did it, it didn't work, I mean i could flash with Odin but the reboot doesn't work : the start screen appeared without the yellow sign, but it's stuck on it.
--- update
FYI, I installed Rom Manager yesterday, it way interact in a bad way with CWM Recovery.
For now i can mount USB by CWM Recovery but cannot do anything else.
If you have a method to clean completely the phone ? Maybe the bootloader is broken...

I did it. 20 times .
Maybe I should re partition my SD card...
--- update ---
I re partitionned my SD Card with Odin and tried to install a new stock ROM. Everything pass with Odin but to finalize the set up (while reboot), I got some errors and still the same problem during the boot. It's stuck !
I installed a insecure Kernel so I can access CWM Recovery but still stuck and now I can't mount anything .
Sorry to post again...
Finally I ordered a USB jig in case of...
I found this solution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16902269&postcount=8
May try it this we.

Running stock rooted ICS 4.0.3
I was running Stock ICS with the latest Siya kernel. However I decided to flash AOKP using CWM but got stuck on the boot screen containing the words Samsung Galaxy S2 and so just used Odin on the computer to flash back to Stock rooted ICS from Creepys thread. I'm trying to reflash the Siya Kernel again but when I select the ZImage file with mobile ODIN lite the flash button is grayed out. I've downloaded and reinstalled both the kernel files and reinstalled mobile ODIN lite and get the same thing.
As a side note, I did a nandroid backup and wipe data factory reset before flashing the AOKP zip file with CWM. Not sure what happened there.
Any help is appreciated!

Why are you making things harder on yourself boy? Just flash the .zip in CWM BAM, you have Siyah Kernel
OK, I used Terminal to put the Siya Kernel back and then restrored the nandroid backup. Everything was back to normal. I then downloaded the Aberration zip file and flashed it with CWM and it wouldn't boot past the Kernel logo. Maybe my SD card is bad or something. Aberration showed a successfull instal then wouldn't boot. It was the latest version with an older kernel so I'm not sure what's going on. I must suck at flashing ROMs. After restoring to the backup that I actually flashed the Siya Kernel on, Mobile ODIN Lite still has the flash button grayed out. It it a one time use thing or something? I'm dying to try a custom ROM but so far have struck out 2X.

Also, don't forget to do a wipe data/factory reset before you flash a new firmware.
Re: Mobile Odin Lite. You should be able to install a kernel even without installing the I777 supplementary file. If Mobile Odin is not seeing the kernel, I'm not sure but maybe it's a spelling issue. At least Linux expects a file to be capitalized exactly, so maybe Mobile Odin does too. It should be zImage, not ZImage (as you have it above.)
Also, if you install the I777 supplementary file, then Mobile Odin becomes a very useful tool. You can get that from (I think) the 3rd or 4th post in the Mobile Odin thread.

I made sure and did the data/factory reset. I also, checked the spelling and it is zImage as you stated. I had a typo.

data partition have been corrupted?
Hello, I have an issue, i think my data partition have been corrupted base on my research so far. I'm just tracking back to how it all started.
I've been running this rom for about a week and i love it, it worked great until yesterday i decided to open a YouTube link via Chrome from my Facebook app. Chrome froze and eventually the screen went blank. I hold the power button to reset and it did, but got stuck at the S screen. I boot into recovery and re-flash the rom wanam 12.3. When i reboot it got stuck during the process of optimizing apps. I reboot and the same thing happen. I boot into recovery and did a wipe data/factory reset and it got stuck in the process. I did a battery pull. (here is where my memory doesn't quite remember the order of events) I attempted a restore of the rom and it failed after it had completed. I attempted restoring another rom but it had a mismatch md5 sum. I attempted restoring another rom S3 mod Rom and it got stuck during the process. By this time i'm only able to get to the boot screen. I flash stock XAKL1 with the pit file and that works for me.
My problem is that i can't boot into any rom unless i use a pit file, which leads me to the thought of my data partition being corrupted. I know the fix for this which is to flash a particular pit file which will create a new partition space at the cost of -2GB of internal space. I just want to make sure that my thoughts are correct before i do that.
Hi,
So i wanted to upgrade my ICS Rooted to JB by flashing this ROM.
It said on CWM success! and i rebooted my phone. Then it only kept itself on boot screen (Written: Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 and the Warning triangle at the bottom) it never went forward. Then i open CWM and it says [E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log].
What do i do now?
Before i had Siyah 5.0.1 with S3Mods ROM .
I have even tried to Restore back to when i had S3Mods Rom but then it says md5 mismatch (or something like that, can't remeber)
As said: what can i do now to fix this?
And what could've cause this?
Thank you for any help!
PS. Also the CWM Layout seems to have changed, i had with my Siyah 6.2.0.1 (don't remeber exact either) now it says PhilZ Touch 3

Try to boot into recovery and wipe data/do a factory reset.
If that does not help, try to flash the ROM again.
If that does not help, restore your nandroid backup of your previous (ICS) ROM.
Good luck !

Thanx, but nothing of that worked.
I did however re-flash my latest ROM (S3Mods ROM) and it did pass the boot, but i'll check now to see if anything has happened with my phone itself.
Thanx
[Solved]
I am unable to flash any roms through cwm, and can only do it through odin. Flashing through cwm results in the phone not loading past the boot logo.
I formatted sd card in cwm, thinking it would only restore to factory settings, not knowing it would completely wipe everything.
From then i was unable to even see the boot logo or recovery mode, but luckily download mode still worked.
So i flashed the stock rom through odin, but it still plays up. Now the battery doesn't last more than 1 day, and constantly freezes.
Now whenever i install anything in cwm, as soon as i reboot, it goes to the bootscreen and freezes. I have tried at least 5 different roms and the same story each time, So each time i have to reflash stock rom with odin.
So any ideas to why this is? any help is appreciated. I have tried ultimate kernel wipe cleaner , or whatever it is called as well.
[Solved]
I just reflashed stock ICS in odin, and ticked the 're-partition' box. the repartition file is called " u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit ". Now it works good as new and I'm currently running PACman rom on 4.3. gg guys.
Just to check, but you have factory reset after flashing the new ROM from CWM right?
Try these steps :
1. Flash ROMNuke script by hawkerpaul. (it's a ROM nuke, not just a kernel nuke)
2. Flash ROM in CWM.
3. Boot.
I know it sounds simple, but that's got me out of a few odd bootloop /failed flash situations. Give it a go.
Then, if that doesn't work, re-download the ROM which you're attempting to flash & try again.
One more thing, what kernel are you trying to flash the ROM from in CWM? Try a different one, say siyah. I've sometimes seen where a particular kernel won't flash but another will for no apparent reason.

it was stock ics cwm i think?, also another thing when I install a new rom, when it shows the progress bar, it goes up to 3 quarters then it skips the rest and says update completed (I just tried Romnuke and same story). I have also tried siyah kernel and it just freezes at the siyah kernel instead. Im currently stuck on stock ICS 4.0.2
Not sure what you mean by 'stock ICS CWM'?
And just to make sure, you definitely have an i9100 right? Not a variant, i9100g etc? Just asking as 4.0.2 was never released for i9100, only 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 (stay away from that one)
So now, re-download the ROM which you're attempting to flash, and try again after the ROMNuke script. Does the script run successfully? Or does it have errors /messages which indicate it didn't run successfully?

All good. And also good that you have an i9100.
Ok, so have you tried the things I said?
1. Try flashing from a different kernel (your choice, try one other than Siyah)
2. Re-download the ROM & reflash with Nuke script then ROM.

5 months later I found the answer when messing with odin. What you do is tick the 're-partition' box, and then in the 'pit' sections you need the partition file i guess, for the i9100 its called u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit . hope this helps anyone else who may have this problem
