Updated to I9300XXBLFB on TMobile, now always says I'm roaming - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated to I9300XXBLFB using Mobile Odin and then did a wipe. I'm using Franco's r8 kernel, and Chainfire's rooting method along with his recovery.
My phone says I'm always roaming, even though I'm connected to TMobile's towers.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Check the identical question posted in the last few days re LFB.

[q] sgs2 "not registered on the network"

Hi there.
I'm running into a specific problem with my SGS2.
After successfully upgrading to multiple Stock ICS from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 , I keep receiving the same message when I try to make a phone call : "NOT REGISTERED ON THE NETWORK".
The phone is not picking up my network and it's on Emergency calls only.
At first, 3G/HSPDA connectivity wasn't working. Only WiFi was working.
However after following a procedure on another thread, I entered the code *2767*3855# immediatly after flashing yet another stock ICS rom.
To my surprise the 3G/HSPDA connectivity was working this time. I took as a sign of victory, but that was only short noticed since the phone was still on Emergency calls only and it still gave me that network error message.
Guys PLEASE I implore you to help me find a solution.
I've flashed the above stock rom (using ODIN of course) in the following order :
1.) I9100XWLP4_I9100LUXLP1_LUX
2.) I9100XWLP7_I9100OXELP7_SER
3.) I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP5_XEU
What could have possibly went wrong ?
I reside in Cape Town, South Africa. I did the flashing for a friend and his network works just fine....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Steve

Bumping posts in a short time space is not allowed this is not Samsung service fix your phone forum .
First is to check you have the correct IMEI on your phone .
If not then restore your backed up EFS folder .If you have not backed up EFS then you need to start reading the IMEI and EFS posts .

Hi i am having the same error, i have tried two different versions of ICS both are official versions. They both install fine and after the phone reboots it goes straight to the home screen without asking for the code. The data network is not active as well as the phone. When i try to make a call it gives me the
"not registered on network error"
I have even tried updating via kies which produces the same result.
The last two installs i tried was with ODIN.
I have gone back to version 2.3.4 which is working fine
any help will be greatly appreciated thanks you
Rohan
Remove battery then check on the underside of the phone your model no.
What country ?
What carrier are you with?
What ICS are you trying to install?
Which gingerbread are you able to use?
PS you can find out which firmware you are on by dialing *#1234#
Post your information

Definately the firmware for South Africa; "Samfirmware shows both to be either Vodafone or XFM".
While on Gingerbread backup your EFS using HC-Ktool or any other EFS backup tool if thats not available in your country.
You could then if needed restore using the same app.
What sort of code do you normally have to input before you get to your main home screen?
Do you do a complete data/factory reset and full wipe/format system before installing new firmware.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Hi it's a sim card code i input before i get to the home screen. I did a factory reset and erased the usb storage, and then i used odin to load ICS on the phone.
So you say it must be the firmware since i am on MTN and i am trying to load a vodaphone rom?
Try a firmware from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
instructions of how to flash are also posted there.
Look for your region or a multi CSC region.
(taken from a previous post).
Copy your internal sdcard and external micro sdcard to your PC.
Boot into recovery. Data factory reset. Advanced option, wipe dalvik cache.
Mounts and storage option, format system; data; sdcard.
Also try Ultimate cleaning script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1166954
Install correct stock firmware using Odin or place a custom rom zip on your sdcard and install from recovery.
Once firmware has booted, from the dial pad, dial *2767*3855#
This will factory data reset.
Wait for firmware to reboot.
Hopefully after that you should be OK.
I got the same probleme some time ago. The only workaround was to switch off the pin-code in settings and then turn it on again...
After flashing a new firmware and do a full wipe, the problem was gone...
Thanks guys i will try both these methods and report back...
First of a big THANK YOU to both of you guys for helping...
-I 1st did a factory reset
-Then Disabled the Sim Card Pin Request
-Downloaded the XFA firmware that you told me to download
-Flashed with ODIN and ICS was working.
Oh before i did all of this i downloaded an official version of Android 2.3.4 and flashed to phone.
I don't know if that had anything to do with it but just thought i would mention it in case it did.
So thanks again guys really awesome...

Flashing back to original firmware , ie gingerbread is always a good idea. On quite a few threads, members have had problems going from one ICS to another.
Pleased it has worked out for you.

you are probably missing the keystr file in efs\imei folder. Just restore back that file and you can use back the sim card pin lock. i had a similar issue previously too.

If your device is an I9100 international version there is a thread with all the modem versions as flashable CWM files.
Read that thread and see if anyone near you has anything to say about good reception then try a few.
Edit: also check your apn settings. If needed use an app called hiapn to automatically set them for your carrier.

Might be a good idea, to reset Sim card, or try other Sim.
Also wipe your phone completely and flash again stock using Odin

And this explains you helping him, starting with a tauntative sentence and ending with a totally irrelevant solution.
ics ... seems to have too many problems ... just stay on 2.3.4/5/6 but make sure you're downloading correct roms for your region... and if you're saying that you bought your 2nd handed you have to make sure the device where-from maybe its not from the your region,

Thankyou all for helping me out... I did the factory reset and everything but nothin was helping mee... then I checked the firmware version and it was TMH TMobile Hungary so download the gingerbread rom of that region, still nothing was working so, then I flashed the Modem only from that very hungry ginger rom and it was working fine but slow.... so then went to the shop from where i purchased and sold it again...

sim signal problem showing no service

My czn galaxy s2 is working perfectly has xwlpd 4.03 except he detects sim but shows no service for sim...
plzzz help me...
i will be very thankful to u.........
Hi!
Since you are new here, it might be the best time for you to read the forum rules just to get you informed.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81 check it out!
1. try inserting your sim in another phone, if you find a signal in the other phone, then there might be something wrong with the s2..
if there is still no signal, then it is a network related problem and call your network operator
2. if you find a signal in the other phone and not in your s2, then you must flash a modem..
DEFINITION:
*Modem/Radio/Baseband is all the same thing and can be seen by going to Settings - About Phone - Baseband. It's basically a driver which receives and sends Mobile Network signals as well as handling switching between GPRS, 3G, HSDPA etc....... (but not WiFi connection, that and switchover between Mobile Network and WiFi is handled by the kernel). Reasoning as to why Modem has no influence on WiFi can be found in this post by Entropy - http://<b>http://forum.xda-developer...count=6556</b>
USAGE:
*There is no one "Best" modem for everybody. Unfortunately you actually have to try to find the modem which works perfectly for you on performance, strength and battery drain levels. The good thing is that from my lengthy 8 month experience with Galaxy S2, I'm happy to report that there are a few modems that seem to perform well geographically for most users. These modems are KE7, KH3, KI3, KI4, KL1, LPS, NEKF2, NELP2 & NELP3.
COMPATIBILITY:
*Modems do not need to be matched up with firmware like it's done with ROMs and Kernels. For example, a KI4 modem can be used with a KL1 ROM and the other way round. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what model your SGS2 is. 9100 and 9100 modems are compatible across both models. However, 9100 model and US variants are not cross compatible since the devices are designed to work on different bands.
INSTALLATION:
*I will add a flashing guide to post number 5 soon, hence why it says "Work in progress.....". For the moment I suggest asking Mr. Google to do a search for you. Bottom line is, for CWM packaged modems you need to be rooted and have a working CWM recovery (flash the CWM modem zip within recovery). For .TAR packages, all you need to do is flash it while your device is in Download Mode and connected to ODIN. The .TAR file should be selected in the PHONE field. Don't touch anything else.

[Q] Problem with XXEMG4 modem (I'm an idiot)

****Let me start by saying that I did do a full EFS backup... but ignored the fact it went to my internal storage, which I wiped and is now lost****
Ok, so decided to upgrade my ROM from S4 Revolution 7.0 to 8.0. Everything went fine, but ended up with no signal (circle sign in the notification bar) and couldn't register on the network. Did some reading, found out I needed to move to the XXEMG4 modem. Flashed it via CWM, signal was back. All was good.
But, I decided I wanted to shift back to stock. I went through the excellent tutorial here, and flashed 4.1.2 specific to my region (Thailand). Unfortunately I ended up with the old "Could not register on the network" issue. Again, did some reading and found out that once you move to the XXEMG4 modem you can't use an earlier version due to updating your EFS partition.
So my solution was to do a quick root, and flash the XXEMG4 modem again. Rebooted, got registered on the network and my data came back online (H+, 850mhz). I thought all was good but after a day of testing I have noticed my data speeds on H+ are ridiculously slow. We are talking 0.16 Mbps.
I can only think this is due to the modem not being optimised for my network.
Does anyone know any other modem I can flash that maybe faster / optimised for my network in Thailand? (True H+). OR should I wait for Samsung to release an official 4.3 and then flash that with its modem?
I think my EFS is fine (other than the upgrade), but have attached screenshots as I do not consider myself an expert when it comes to modems etc.
Thanks for any help.

Trying that now, will use the XXEMB6 modem and see how things pan out.
And you're right, it is a sh**.
Ok, so tried installing Ariza Patch and then flashing a older modem (xxemb6). No joy. It shows the signal bar, but won't register on the network.
I then tried flashing BUUGMJ3 which registered on the network, but same speed issues. Dead slow.
So now back to the MG4 one. I have noticed what maybe a related issue, my data icon is constantly switching between H and H+. It did this before, but now its all the time.

:good: Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at that tomorrow (I'm a little worn out after 2 days of messing with my phone).
I'm also considering flashing the 4.3 official ROM and seeing if that helps any. The Thai version should land any day now.

No need if you have tried the following
(1) efs restore
(2) flash stock with Odin
(3) Patched modem and kernel
Then it is service repair.
