[Q] Toolkit - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the toolkit work for the sgs3? its something similar to the gnex toolkit will it work the same way ? because i read through here there is other ways to root and install cwm but with the toolkit its easier which way would be easiest?

The toolkit is similar to the Galaxy nexus one.

Odin is far from being complicated.
Several people have had softbrick issues with the toolkit, I'd avways prefer having control over the individual steps and see what goes wrong.
It's nott like there are that many, you need 1step to root (flash kernel through Odin) or 2 steps to change Rom (root, then install new Rom through CWM) and there are plenty howto's.

Help with stock kernel to root, and CWM.

Hi, is there a completely stock kernel with root and CWM that I can flash with Odin, on my S2. I have seen a couple kernels but they have things like different boot animations, and different little tweaks but I just want stock ROM with root and CWM. I have never used Odin before, and was also wondering if rooting, and installing CWM with Odin is safer than using SuperOneClick, then using Odin to install CWM? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

1. stock kernel with root? Yes.
2. stock kernel with CwM (and root)? Probably yes.
Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
I have not personally gone with that option and I believe most of members here do not go with this option. So, I don't know if it works as expect or not.
3. custom kernel with CwM? Yes. So far in this room, there are 2 most popular custom kernels, Entropy's Daily Driver and Siyah kernel.

Rooting S3 Without PC? I did it on the s2...

New to XDA. Just wondered if.. like the s2 I can root my s3 without pc...
I think I done it by installing a new recovery, and flashing CWM, Busybox etc
With no yellow triangle. Is this method possible on the s3? Or is it possible atall?
Many thanks

Afaik not possible yet, just flash a CF-Root kernel you need with Odin (SU, busybox and CWM), download Triangle Away 1.51 and reset the binary flash counter. This is the easiest way.
How did you root s2 without a pc?

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
I think this is a great rooting method since it doesn't involve flash kernels making it a very safe method and you don't have to worry about Triangle Away etc
I did try doing exactly the same as this on my S3 but using the s3 version of CWM http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.4-i9300.zip but it fails to load the zip with a signature verification error which is a shame.
Does anyone know why this works on the s2 but not the s3. The s2 doesn't seem to have an issue with signature verification.
Probably because Samsung read through this site too... Can't make it too easy now, can they....
By the way, S3 doesn't have a yellow triangle anymore.
Just the binary counter is increated but it can easily be reset with TriangleAway.
Any clever person been working on this or know of a way?

I brought this subject up a while back when first came from Note and S2, we just need someone to leak a signed CWM like we got for other phones then we're good.
Hasn't happened yet though so who knows if it ever will.

It is a good method. Rooted stock is what I wanted anyway..
Ah well

If you want to go back to stock and have root it can be done, but you will need CWM or TWRP...what do you have installed. You say you have a custom recovery but you are not rooted.... you dont need to be rooted to put CWM or TWRP on, is it you do not have a computer at all...What ROM is on there now?
I would find a computer it would be your best bet, but below are the tools for the GNote for these forums.

its the twrp recovery that's installed

right I have no computer or a way to use one

Download a kernel from the original dev section i.e. dagr8's kernel and flash it from your recovery. That should restore your root privileges. Sounds like he just unrooted the phone on a custom ROM for some bizarre reason.

it actually has the stock ics

Doesn't matter. If recovery is installed you don't really have a problem. Just follow my instructions and you should have root in 5 minutes.

so I can flash roms and everything the way it is?

Yes, flash away. Read every First Post a couple of times for the installation instructions.

Bad download mode?

Hi all, could anyone offer a solution to a slight problem i have? Basically i got the charging problem after flashing latest stock ics. I read that if i put a diff rom on it would fix the prob bit i lost root. So i get into download mode boot odin up and connect but the pc says something about usb failed cant connect etc etc so i cant root or rom yet when i connect the phone when not in download mode it gets recognised straight away i can transfer files view sd card etc etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If you want to root the phone and get CWM, you can flash Siyah or any other custom kernel with temporary CWM.
If you only want root you can get it with that app by Chainfire that uses Exynos exploit.

Root and recovery

Hey guys. I just got this phone for my nephew. I want to root it and rom it. Right now it's running gingerbread, which let's face it, is garbage! I am pretty sure towelroot will do the root for me, but I don't see a recovery thread anywhere? Any help here would b great, and much appreciated.
Thanks,
Zound

Please refer to the search function there is a long thread on rooting and flashing roms for the i777

You can use Framaroot with Aragorn exploit to root.
This phone does not have a separate recovery. It's built into the kernel. You must flash a custom kernel containing recovery. If you are 100% certain the phone has gingerbread, then flash the tar version of Siyah 2.6.14 Kernel using (preferably) Mobile Odin pro or Mobile Odin lite (free), or you can flash it with standard Odin3 v1.85.
