Franco kernel (VZW GNex): stuck on r196 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the franco kernel update app on my Galaxy Nexus LTE. But for some reason I'm only offered r196 in the nightlies, even though i see the kernel is up to r217. I can't seem to figure out why this is.

Nobody know. Your GSII was running on ICS or Gingerbread?
Gingerbread mostly, I just flashed an unofficial CM9 ICS last week though....

Were you running custom roms before the cm9 build? Also, are you running a custom ROM on your note?
Because if you were running custom on your sgs2, and stock on note, the sgs2 will beat it everyday.

Maybe a little but the HD screen with the s3 processor and the 220 gpu it can't handle the screen you will always see a little lag!!

So yeah my Note is Running Great But i Need To flash a Rom For it Now its Running @ 1.83Mhz so i would do this for sure
Saurom_xla2_rc4a and u will need to get cwm update and thats it my fone has beeen goin so fast love it now
If it weren't for the custom ROMs I would have taken this phone back. I came from a skyrocket and this phone is much slower. Since I OC'd and installed Saurom it has been much better.

You have to have a custom ROM. Stock ROMs don't have NFC enabled

Pretty much any of the ones in the regular development section

Task and ktoons AOKP is a favorite. Works well and is stable. As is lilchris' PhoneBricker. Both are ICS.
Have only used those two, used many kernels, but like the roms, it's up to the user to decide what is best for them.

That's not for the i777. Why don't you open the development section here on xda and read? There are tons of roms to choose from.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
That looks like the international GS2, but as for CM... Never run it so I can't tell you if it's stable (from my experience) or not.
However, another good option would be ShoStock. Never run it, but it's got a great following so shoman must be doing something right!
As was said above me, by some random asshat who also has developed a ROM of his own, try taking a look at the development section and reading up a little on the roms available. Also, make a nandroid backup and then give a ROM a try. Give it a week, try other kernels if it seems a bit choppy. Then try another room if you aren't satisfied.
Once you find one you like, supercharge that mofo!

Using a Kernel other than Semaphore?

Is anyone out there using a non-Semaphore based kernel?
In my experience, Phore (and its variants) is fast & smooth, but for reasons I have yet to surprise, after a few days my poor refurb can't handle it & becomes a kernel panic landmine.
Again, not bashing Semaphore (why would I? It's awesome).
Just looking for something that might prove more stable on MY finicky phone besides the stock CM kernel.

Hey is that kernel overckock capable and can I use it on pac man 4.3?
Nope, 4.2 kernels don't work with 4.3
Sent from my VZW Note II using XDA DEV
NEAK is generally built around installing and letting it do it's thing. The engine app has modes you can select that do most of the work. Honestly I just let it do it's thing and it's fine. Now the sounds app is another story.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I am running neak on carbon ROM. And let me tell you, its a beast. I installed the uneak engine app and chose the battery saver option and I have been getting at least 7 hours screen time and around 18 hours total time. Thats under heavy use. If into light I'm sure I could get a day or two.

Actually.....I've got N.E.A.K. running on Paranoid Android 4.3 Alpha without a hitch. I figured I'd give it a shot and see if it boots, and to my surprise, it does and worked. I reverted back to 4.2.2 because of some other graphics anomalies which were outlined in the CM and PA threads.
I just switched to alliance rom recently and and need to find the link to the most updated neak kernel again anyone with link info?

ROMS THAT DONT WORK SO FAR
AOSP Source Built
CyanogenMod Nightly
Why? I'm running 10.2, the 9/23 nightly. It's rock solid as have been all the nightlies for a couple of weeks now.
Any reason to go back to a 10.1 ROM?

For the simple fact that this is a stable release. Just because you experience no issues in your use of 10.2 doesn't mean others who do different things with their phones don't experience issues. Software can't be considered stable based on the experience of a few users.

Is this only for the dev devices sold directly from Samsung?
Forgive my ignorance, I've had the Gnex for the past couple years and that was a very easy phone to mod, and my original SGS was as well. I have been reading here but I wont have the S4 until later today so I have no idea what firmware version will come on it out of the box.. The [GUIDE] stickied isn't actually a guide but a list of ROMs with no explanation of anything for beginners to this phone. Can anybody point me to a better starting point? Because I am failing miserably to find any kind of guide or wiki or truly compiled info on this device.
Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks but your post is totally irrelevant to my question, it's stable for me on my phone and that's the ONLY phone I'm able to observe, the ONLY phone I have first hand information about and the ONLY phone I inquired about.
