Stuck in Recovery and Can't Mount SD - HTC Rezound

Complete NEWB here, I tried to flash my first rom and clearly did something wrong, and I'm not sure what exactly, but now I can't mount my sd card to flash a new rom and I'm stuck in recovery. Can someone please give me instructions to load a new rom onto the internal storage so I can flash from there? Is that possible?

You can try to push the files using fastboot push <filename> from your pc. Also when installing a ROM you must do a factory reset in recovery. Oh and always make a nandroid backup before flashing anything

Don't know if you just want to just load a new rom onto the storage. Maybe it will be helpful to find out why things haven't worked out with the current set-up.
Questions... S-on or S-off, GB firmware or ICS., what recovery? Which Rom.
I'm thinking you flashed an ICS Rom on GB firmware and you didn't flash the SD Card Patch that is required. If that is the case, all you'll need to do is flash the patch.

i was trying to flash rezrom, and i was trying to multitask while doing that, I guess clearly a bad idea when you really arent sure of what you are doing haha. but pretty much i moved the file onto my phone and flashed it. so ya i must have missed some steps. but i'm not sure what my next step should be, so i thought it would be easier to flash a different rom

Question on installing roms on the Rezound

So I've done this before but it was long ago. I don't remember having to deal with having the PH98IMG.zip. I know there are tons of threads on here but I just kind of need a straightforward answer to the questions. I like to install my roms from the sd card. Where does the PH98IMG.zip need to reside? And do those need need to be changed per the rom? Is this actually the kernel? And so do I have to have my rom on a particular spot on my sd card? I've used CMod recovery LOTS, but that didn't work so well, so I put Amon's on, and it's working. But every time I have tried to install a ROM like I used to with my Inc, I end up stuck at the HTC screen.
Someone whos got some time to just answer these questions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Yes, the ph98 file is the kernel. Most roms include it in the Rom now and use Cons auto installer, but if not yes the file needs to be on the external sd card. Just remember to delete it after you boot up or else you wont be able to reboot to recovery.
So basically have Rom and ph98 on external sd, reboot recovery wipe and install Rom. Then boot to bootloader and it will automatically detect the file and ask you if you want to update. Select yes, then reboot. Once booted up remove ph98 file from sd card.

Also, if you are getting stuck on the white HTC screen most likely you need to flash the kernel for that ROM. If you are on a GB ROM you need a GB kernel, ICS needs ICS kernel. So if you switch from one to the other without flashing the kernel you will get that issue.
The kernels are usually the PHzip files. They can also be flashed in fastboot by pulling the boot.img out and using the following command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

I have tried both Ineffabilis and BAMF, which I thought they both had the kernel in them. But I still got stuck at the HTC screen. I'm trying to figure out what I am missing. I know how to install thru the manager. I tried it from both the ext storage and then the internal storage. Wiped cache and all that jazz.
I shouldn't have to remove the rom from the card to reboot should I? I never did before. I just checked and yeah they both have the kernel.
I'm perplexed.
Thanks for answering tho. This is buggin the crap out of me.
You know I have had troubles getting my computer to show my ext card...I wonder if that has something to do with it?
I don't have to mount anything in the Amon's recovery do I?

Sorry I didn't see your response, It must have been in between my edits. Thanks for the response too
These two roms tho, they have kernels in them, according to the write-up on them.
I did previously flash a kernel. It would have been a GB one.

So I should be able to just flash those and it should reboot as normal right?
*edit* I just re-read your post and I wanted to make sure I understood..maybe this is what I need to understand. SO if I am on a GB rom, do I need to flash the ICS kernel ONLY before I put on a ICS rom? We didn't have to do that before either with Honeycmb/GB, at least I don't remember....I think I'm gettin too old for this stuff. lol

Yes, you only need to flash a ICS kernel when flashing an ICS rom. I think I read that the kernel autoinstaller isn't working properly on ieffibilis. I know I had trouble and had to manually flash the stock OTA kernel to get it booting . I then installed incredikernel beta 6 afterwards.
Nvm about comment on ineffibilis, I just clicked your links and both are ICS roms that you tried. I bet for whatever reason the kernel didn't flash properly so you still have the GB kernel so it won't boot. Actually, both your links show that the kernel needs to be downloaded separately hence the separate link for the PH98IMG file. Download that separate kernel for whatever rom you want to flash and start over.

I did have one of the kernels but I didn't do it first. I'll try that and see if I can get something running. Thanks for your help guys. It's kind of starting to come back to me now. lol I never did really mess with using diff kernels much, just roms. And using Amon is kind of throwing me off.
So flash the kernel. Then the rom. And delete the kernel off the card after installing it. Got any suggestions on a good kernel? Looking for stable.

I put both files on external SD, reboot to recovery.. wipe everything , flash rom.. then back out to main menu in recovery and choose developer menu.. then select reboot to bootloader. Once,in bootloader select fastboot.. it will then check the sd and recognize the ph98zip file and ask if you want to update..select yes and it will install the kernel then just select power to reboot and you should now have rom and kernel installed and it will boot fully into rom. Then remember to remove that ph98 file off the SD card.
I usually just stick with stock, but I have had good luck on ICS with the overlocked stock unsecured kernel that is overclocked to 1.7 . GB , I have had really good luck with incredikernel and anthrax, but anthrax is a tad touchy.
Thanks so much for all your help. There is so much to read thru.
Flashing now!!
I dunno what the hell is wrong, but I just can not get this thing workin. I followed your explanation to the T. I'm sitting here with the white screen again. I watched it flash the kernel so I know it found it. I've never had this much trouble flashing/romming.
I'm trying a diff rom now. I don't know what else it could be.
Holy crap. Wtf. Still nothing. Tried both the above roms. with BAMF kernel. White screen every time. Damn.
Have any ideas anyone? lol

Here try this .. download Nil's newest ICS rom, put at the root of the external SD card, reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik, then flash rom. His rom will automatically install the kernel and reboot you into fastboot so you can update the kernel.
Nil's rom's are as stable and easy to install so if you have trouble with his something is wrong with your install process .

K, I'll try it right now. I'm gonna throw something if this doesn't work. You said at the root of the sdcard...would that make a diff cuz I put mine in a folder. But not the PMimg file of course.
You know, something else I noticed that you mentioned, it doesn't ask me if I want to install the kernel. It just does it.

Yes, don't put it in a folder. Then , the kernel is not being flashed correctly. It would ask you to update in fastboot and you would have to push volume up to select yes.
1. Download Nil's rom and place at the root of the external SD card.
2. reboot to amon ra recovery
3. Wipe data/factory reset and wipe Dalvik
4. select flash zip menu
5. select the Nil's rom zip and it will ask you to push power to confirm. push power and confirm and the rom should begin installation.
6. Once the rom , is done installing you will be automatically booted into the bootloader then fastboot will be highlighted so push power to confirm. It will then begin scanning your SD card and find the ph98zip file Nil's rom installed.
You should see it parsing.. then it will ask you if you want to update volume up to confirm (yes ) so hit volume up.
It should then show unzipping..installing and done. Only option should show to press power to reboot phone.
7. It will reboot and then should load rom and kernel now correctly.

Yeah see all the other times I installed the kernel, it never asked me, it just automatically went thru the list searching, and would find it and stop when it found it, and install it. Or maybe it stopped and just skipped it?
Now when I installed this rom, I see that it installed the kernel correctly. And yes this rom is working and installed just fine. two things different. Not putting it into a folder, and the way fastboot behaved with the PMimg file.
So do you have any ideas what would make it do that? The PMimg file? There isn't really anything I've done different. I rename it, and put it in the root of the card.
And now I am assuming I can install a rom over this one without changing the kernel, right?

Well, technically you would install a different kernel for the particular rom, but since most of the ICS kernels are basically all the same you would probably be ok as long as its another ICS rom.
Definately have to reflash a GB kernel if you go back to a GB rom though. Not sure why the others didn't work as long as you renamed it correctly to PH98IMG.zip it should have worked the same way.

Well thanks for all the help. I'm going to see if I can get a kernel that works on here.
Thanks again!
If you were putting the ROMs into a folder, it wasn't flashing the ROM. It was however flashing the kernel and that left you on a stock GB ROM with an ICS kernel. That's probably why you were getting the white screen.

I think I've done this before and ran into this problem. Not exactly the same thing but where I put them in a folder and it didn't work. I almost need to take notes cuz I go 2 years in between phones. lol
Now I can't get into Amon. Jeez. I'm gettin too old for this stuff.
Nevermind. My fingers are gettin tired from doin this. lol
You'll want to make sure you go into settings, power, and uncheck fastboot. If it's enabled you'll have to pull the battery to use power and volume to boot into recovery. Or you can use an app that will allow you to boot into recovery from the power menu when you long press power. Some ROMs have this built into the power menu. The fastboot setting keeps the device from powering down all the way.

Yeah, I've always had it built into the power button menu, but especially with the way the Rezounds buttons are I would think they'd make that a priority. Thanks for the tip on the settings. I didn't know you could do that.

boot loop!!!HELP

hey there!!!I have a HTC amaze .am just 14 years old.I think i screwed up my phone!I had energy GB rom installed on my phone!i bought it from ebay.i wanted to install ICS on my device...i looked up the XDA forums....downloaded the energy ICS rom!I am still S-on(t-mobile)(no ext sd card).I downloaded the seperate kernel provided

Look in the Development Section and find one of the Stock ICS RUUs. Rename it to PH85IMG.zip and place it on your sdcard.
Boot into bootloader and let it find it and let it update.

stay calm... here is possibly the simplest solution.
download energy gb rom again
download or extract the kernel meant to go with that rom
flash the rom
then flash the kernel (if your using 4ext recovery you shouldnt need this)
now the phone should be back to normal.
Or it works on the internal sdcard plug your phone into the computer and put the ruu on the internal sd card

What you need to do is boot into recovery. I assume you know how to do that. After you boot into recovery, press on toggle USB Storage.
You can now transfer files to your internal SD-Card, especially the ROM files.
Also, if you're lucky, you may see the DCIM folder inside the internal SD-Card. If you do, you can transfer the entire folder to your computer and hope that the said pictures are in that folder. Do this BEFORE you attempt to flash the ROM.
After you transfer it, press disconnect on the recovery, and then select install from sdcard, and then choose zip from sdcard. Select the ROM you just transferred into the phone and flash that.
Best of luck.

Because you are skipping a step. To go from gb to custom ics rom, you must first flash the ics ruu. You can't just flash nrg ics Rom, right over gb

[Q] Custom Rom Problems?

Hello all
I have searched all over but have not found any similar problems.
I rooted my phone and installed CWM and would like to install a custom rom that exists for Gingerbread 2.3.6 (I flashed back to stock OS), I have found the rom that I seem to like a lot (Atomic rom) however when I put the .zip file into my external sd and use rom manager to install the rom it turns off, then the phone boots back up... Any ideas about what is happening? Maybe I do not have everything rom manager needs?
I am definitely not ready to flash the new rom using odin, unless you put the .zip file into PDA section and hit "Start" when the phone is in download mode... from the forums I read it is not as easy as installing the stock OS
Thanks in advance!

you leave so many questions unanswered here. you have provided some information here, but not the vital info and the last part is very confusing.
im sorry, I know you are new here, but you lead me to ask some very generic questions....................
are you in the right forum for the right phone? this is for the Note1
I only ask this because I cant even find any GB ROMS for this phone. the Note 1 has been updated to official JB. I would and I am sure you would hate to flash wrong files to wrong phone and wind up with a BRICK.
I am not trying to make it sound as if you don't even know what phone you have, but you would not be the first to flash wrong and kill your phone.
may I suggest you read up in the "Super Everything Thread", which is in the General Forum. you will find exactly that, EVERYTHING, there. Odin is no big deal and super easy to use. also most don't even use CWM or ROM MANAGER anymore. TWRP is now the RECOVERY of choice and much more user friendly.
there are also many YOUTUBE tutorals that can walk you through. but first, lets make sure you are in the right place.
your phone is a ???????? NOTE 1

Sorry about that... I have the Samsung Galaxy Note i717 for AT&T and I am running Gingerbread 2.3.6
I thought that if a rom could run on GB it could run on any phone that has GB but your response has lead me to know that it also depends on what phone I'm running, so thanks!
I'll go and double check to see if the rom I tried to install was for the note... I guess I'm lucky I didn't brick my phone when I tried flashing the other 2 rome xD... Gonna count my blessings tonight lol

Gonna count my blessings tonight lol

don't need to apologize to me for anything. the more information the better. not only are there so many phones out there, there are variations of those phones that have gotten people in trouble.
you have the North American version
International version
Korean version
different internals and wont all take same ROM. just be careful my friend.

I am looking into this rom, looks pretty interesting. Flashing the "AT&T fix" though, do I put that on my SD card also?
Update: For some reason I can not install rome
I am not sure what I am doing wrong because I have Rom manager do everything when I put the .zip file on my SD card and the phone restarts like normal, I even tried doing it manually in cwm recovery. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. And this rom I know for sure is meant for GB and the i717.
Any suggestions? Thanks again
You mean it's a gb rom meant for the i717 galaxy note....... I think you may be a little mixed up on what a rom is and what your actually doing...... Explain in detail what exact steps your doing when your flashing the rom so someone can help you.

I appreciate your patience
Step 1: I put the downloaded .zip rom (saurom) into my external sd card in a special folder I named Roms
Step 2: I fire up Rom manager and go to "Install ROM from SD Card"
Step 3: Go to folder containing the Saurom .zip file and select it
Step 4: Make sure "Backup Existing Rom" and "Wipe Data and Cache" are selected
Step 5: Hit "Reboot And Install"
The phone will then turn off and restart like normal, I check but the rom did not install. I honestly have no idea how I'm screwing up lol
Do you have a custom recovery installed....

You have to understand this as well, the ROMS do not install in conjunction or within the current Stock ROM. They replace them. So as stated above you have to make sure you have CWM or TWRP installed and boot directly to the custom recovery. Then wipe your data/system/cache/dalvik and after all of that install the ROM of choice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525341
The very first thing listed in this topic is how to install Saurom. No where does it say to try and do it through ROM Manager.
Maybe that is where your hiccup is coming from?
No further instructions needed good luck and happy flashing

Alright so I forgot that I had to wipe the data/system / cache / dalvik
But even when I tried that just now and went into installing the .zip file it said that the installation failed, is it because cwm was removed when I wiped the device?
Update your recovery to twrp 2.6

What would updating the recovery do?
Gets rid of status 7 error that makes it unable to flash.

haha, only problem is that the rom hit an error anyways so I'm still lost at what I am doing wrong...
Another question, when I reset all of the settings and stuff before I flash the rom, wouldn't that get rid of titanium back up? then how would I restore my apps and data?
Yes you are right... But first stick your phone in the freezer for 2hrs...then microwave it for 3 mins... It will cause your recovery to reconstruct and see your internal storage enabling developer options to be on... Then hit the rom installer button.

[Q] HTC Amaze. Can't get any ROM / RUU to work

Hello everyone. I need some help here. I am a noob ( 7 out of 10, on the noobometer)
my device is HTC Amaze (carrier Wind in Canada). Bootloader unlocked, S ON, Rooted, Recovery TWRP (latest version). H boot: 1.93.0002 CID: GLOBA001
I had ICS before I started rooting and everything. I completely deleted the stock version without any back up. I tried installing Kit Kat, install would go through, but then the phone will get stuck on bootloop. Same happened when I tried Jelly Beans, and CM 10.
(I followed all the procedures of wiping device and flashing ROMs)
Then decided to go back to stock. I found a stock version on this site. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Amaze_4G/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
locked the bootloader, change the file name to required name, and yet it does not install. after bootloader checked the SD card and checked the ruu zip, it does nothing.
I tired this with Ginger bread version stock, and the installation will complete, but then when the phone reboots, again it gets stuck in boot loop.
I tried executing and exe version of the stock ruu through usb, and the installation will fail saying hboot is older!
Can anyone please help me? I need to either go back to sock ICS or install Jelly Beans . But I need the phone to operate, most of all.
Do I need to S off? is that why I am having all this issue? and If I do need to S off, how can I do that now? now that I dont have any stock rom on the phone. (according to my research, you need stock ROM to S off.)
Thank you in advance.

Bootloop because nothing flashes S-ON except 4EXT recovery. 4EXT recovery will pre-flash the kernel, if you enter the 4EXT recovery settings and tell it to use "Smart Flash."
You can search the forum and find the instructions to get 4EXT recovery on your phone (I think WinDroid Universal will do it) Then you can go back and flash your ICS ROM.
Currently the most stable are the ICS--unless you want to play around or start dev'ing or just for fun, GB is too old, and KK is too new.

Thanks a lot. Your reply gave a some hope and I went back to working on it. However, when in 4EXT, I started have the issue of "can't mount SD card. Neither my internal or external SD card would mount.
Then I did some more research that found out that I can also manually Flash boot.img if I didn't use 4EXT. And much to my surprise that worked!!
So my phone is working now in CM 10. however, I still can't mount my SD cards, internal and external. Would you be able to help me that too?
Thanks in advance.

Glad you found a good way to do that, and are self-motivated.
When mine wouldn't mount, I went into the 4EXT tools, told it to check the partitions, repair the filesystem, fix permissions, and then it worked for me. It was is if it had to re-discover the cards or something..., I really don't know. If that don't fix it for you, come back and someone else will have some ideas.
And search around a little--I'm sure that's happened to others.

I did the 4EXT sd card check, file system check, partition check, but still having the same issue. Also, Its only happening to Internal SD card. The external SD card is mounting now (I guess after doing the checks in 4EXT)
I am doing searches now, lets see what I can come back with.

You might try it without the external SD in it. Also, someone recently said something about a special way to format the internal I think.
Maybe it was here:

I'm just stock rooted. I flashed the Harman/Kardon file but didn't like it
I dont think there is one. If you made a Nandroid then you could just restore the /system partition and that should restore it to normal. If not then I believe your only option to use stock again would be to do an RUU as I don't think there's any stock roms that can be flashed. Well there may be but I never found one. If you're okay with doing a custom ROM then I'd recommend CleanROM or Android Revolution HD, both are stock but with tweaks and optimizations.
If you still wanna go with stock then to keep ur stuff just back it up with titanium backup and turn it into a flash able zip and backup ur internal storage to a computer or something then do it and when you're back on stock go into your recovery and flash the zip. Once you also restore your internal storage and do some re-organizing everything should be back to normal.
BUT research yourself first, there may be a way to do that without doing the complicated process of an RUU. Anyways Goodluck with whichever thing you choose to do!
