1.Can anyone give me reasons why I should do so?
If you think I should, what are the features in my current Android that would be missing in CyanogenMOD? Aside from SWYPE.
2. Does older versions of CyanogenMOD have SWYPE?
3. If I don't like it, would it be easy to switch back to Android and make it seem like it was never tampered with, Samsung settings and all
4. Is it really less expensive to have internet access via wifi tethering from mobile phone? How so?
...Don't carriers charge a lot for internet connection? I'm asking because I think CyanogenMod has wifi tether feature?
Please answer ALL questions.
Thanks guys.
I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace, Android 2.3.4
Already rooted I think, I have the Superuser icon...

1. Reasons:
> It's wicked fast. Even a non-barebones CyanogenMod is really smooth.
> No annoying Samsung Bloatware (although this applies to generally all custom ROMs now)
> Tons of options. Just scroll into Settings > CyanogenMod Settings or the Spare Parts application, and there's a ****load of stuff you can customize.
Unreasons:
> Miserable battery life. 2/3rds the life of a stock ROM
> Generally less stable.
> I don't know if this is just me, but if I enable Portable hotspot, the battery will get really hot. Around 65 degrees.
Features on the Galaxy Ace missing from CM7
> TouchWiz and TouchWiz apps (duh)
> Samsung Apps
> AllShare
> And, by default, official CM doesn't include Google Apps (like Market, Gmail), but the KANG (unofficial) builds here do, so that's not an issue.
2. Nope. No version on CM have had or will have Swype preloaded.
3. Short answer: absolutely. Long answer: Nandroid Backup. ClockwordMod Recovery. Look it up.
4. It depends on your carrier. I use a semi-unlimited data (500MB data cap) for Rp35,000 (which is around US$3) a month.

wifi tether is in stock also buddy...
you can install swype on most of androids [beta.swype.com]
performance comes at cost of battery
Simply try cyanogen mod then revert back to original or stock rom via odin

cm7 uses stock android ui,not tw..cm7 uses Android keyboard not samsung keyboard -_--_-
If you need to use it,you have to find it from some othr place
CM7 doesn't have an option for putting manual proxy! It's weird.
Hi. Regarding adeklipse's reasons NOT to switch to CyanogenMOD include
- Miserable battery life
- Generally less stable
I need to know, is this true for ALL custom ROM's? (MIUI, VillainROM, etc)

No..Its just related to cm7 based roms..btw MIUI is not yet available on sga
I would use the stock rom if it didn't keep rebooting any time I touched anything in the system folder.
The CM settings are cool too, like status bar brightness, long back to close, notification power widget tweaks etc.

Its not just the framework, you would need to swap libs and other things..Even then, its not completely sure if it will work or not
Why is nobody talking about FirstUA rom. For me that is the best
Sent from Galaxy Ace!
Cyanogen is more about stability not features.(their site seems to say so)
For me, maps does not work very well in CM.
samsung stock ROM is not that bad. eg browser has some nice features. also CM also got some nice features that stock browser lacks
I personally think android ROM are not really for customization. LOL
compared to jailbroken iphone customization.
It's really sad to see those called android customization are more off linux tweak(governor, file system, ....)
I don't know what's preventing dev from customizing android. (go look around what jb iphone can customize)
I always have to stay shut off whenever I meet jailbroken iphone users!!!
Also there should be some kind of cyanogen stores (which will run in cyanogen ROM).
Sorry if this is off-topic.
Hi all
as it is vacation and i have a lot of free time atm, i played around with some custom roms. I really liked the customisation and performance of resurrection remix, but after some time playing around on any custom rom, i found myself missing my stock samsung apps which in my opinion are mcuh more convenient, although that may just be because i'm used to them. Now my question was if there was any way to get the customisations and performance of a resurrection remix and such, but to install the stock samsung apps over it? that would really be perfect for me, but yeah i know, aosp roms, open source, not samsung apps. any tips very much appreciated
Wrong section.

Which apps you want from stock in RR?
Most of them rely on TouchWiz framework (ctomgee told me ).
well, the first I can think off are camera, agenda contacts and maybe messaging, but if they really depend on stock framework then this will be impossible or at least quite difficult I guess
"Can port?"
Camera, MMS - no, agenda - I think yes, contacts... probably no
Mhm, then it seems quite impossible to make it happen, I can get the performance tweaks by installing siyah kernel but the customisibility won't be for me apparently
Hey xda,
this is my first post. yaiks :fingers-crossed:
i got a few questions regarding the JellyBam ROM. I'm using Version 4.0.0 on my S3 International (previous T-Mobile Germany, but now unbranded).
Since now i've tried a lot of different ROM's looking if they suit my needs/wants. For now i stick with JellyBam
However there are a few things were i need some information on:
1. I'd like to have the "stock" camera app and gallery, cause i dont really like the aosp camera app.
It has just not the look i want and at the moment it's lacking a lot of options as well.
Ofc i know that there are some Camera Mods that bring the "old" camera back, but i dont seem to get them working. I've tried like four.
If i'm correct, it's actually the Note 2 Camera, right? So could someone tell me which camera mod actually should work with JellyBam ROM?
Don't need links, just the mod name. This way i can be sure that it has to work and its me who is doing it wrong
2. I also want the stock music player back, cause Apollo is, in my eyes, just bs. I didn't went from iPhone to Samsung to have the same stupid music handling. No folder view.....i mean, really?
Copy some music to your sd, switch to player and select the one you want to hear, that's how it should be done.
But with Apollo you only get the option Album, Artist, Title and Playlist. I don't want to make a playlist, when i can put different tracks in one folder.
And most of us probably have a lot of music, where the id tags are not correct...
So is there a mod for the stock player? That would be really nice!
3. Is there a mod for DLNA? Since i dont seem to find it now, with the AOSP ROM. This was pretty handy with my samsung TV
4. I'm using MPE for communication with my pc. However, i only can look through my S3 via MPE. But in the explorer it wont show up. Everytime i connect the phone it says "missing hardware id".
De-/Reinstalling drivers, etc. didnt work. It's not really a problem. But i just dont like work-arounds.
I also need to have the USB-Debugging turned on all the time, otherwise MPE wouldnt connect as well. Does someone has any ideas on that problem?
Thanks in advance. I hope you gents/ladies can help me out.
Cheers,
goop.Q

Anyone?
you can't have any samsung apps, like camera and player, on non-samsung roms like CM, which JellyBam is based on.
Why are you using an outdated version?

Well i'm aware of that all you say.
But as far as i know you are wrong at the same time. there are mods that bring some of those stock apps back to the ROM, sammy-based or not.
And that should go for the camera as well.
For the version thing:
JellyBam 5.x.x is based on AOSP 4.2.x
Version 4.x.x is based on 4.1. and is much more stable at the moment.
Just because there comes a leak every third day or so doesnt mean, i have to get all the updates.
especially when the FW is working fine. why should i want to tweak on my phone forever?
not the camera, and not the player. it won't work on non-Sammy ROMs unless it specifically says that it's been ported
Ok thanks. Will loook for that.
So guys, what is by your suggestive opinion the smoothest rom for our tab p7500?
I don't play games so I don't care about that, don't use back camera either, I only need the front one and the mic for skype, also I need 3g and chrome to work, I don't care about the rest
It has to be ICS or newer, because I need chrome.
I tried various roms, but they get slow over time, the best one I used is stock Honeycomb but chrome doesn't work there .....
I'd suggest Cm 9 or Fourth bar revolution
Hello guys,
I do not know if this problem happens to you ...
I use the latest version of CyanogenMod ofical NIGHTLY our LA friend (Caio) with the latest version of Dorimanx Kernel (I do not modified anything in the Kernel, only the sound booseter at + 20db). It is a very good Rom (at the beginning of use without applications without customization etc)
But when I start normally use the ROM (installed my personal applications, synchronizing email, contacts, etc), randomly, the system becomes unstable at times. There is no specific app, even in the launcher, or on the lock screen cell at times gets very lag (this happens dozens of times a day) often need to restart your phone to solve the problem of slowness. But at other times the phone is fast as a plane ...
I suspect it's some application that is running in the background. However I could not identify what ... I uninstalled antivirus, clean master, facebook, limit the number of processes, I put memory killer, and still continue with the issue.
My question is:
You also experience this problem? It is a problem in Rom?
If not, you know some application that enables me to identify what causes this problem? Eg an application that point: The 14:31:21 Avast application consumed 80% of CPU and 800MB ram ..
If anyone can help I thank. Because it does not know what else to do, I can see I'll have to buy a new phone, because in all Roms I installed the Galaxy S2 I go through this problem of Lag (Android 2.x, 4.x, 5.1, Neat Rom etc.) all.
On stock rom as well?

Yes, this problem also occurs in the original roms samsung.
What I found most stable was the Neat rom (which is based on Stock rom), but it lacks the advantages lollipop, and I decided to keep the Lollipop. But this Lag / slowness, will make me end up throwing out the window my galaxy s2

Try KitKat if you still want a reasonably modern rom and fast experience. LP is still full of memory leaks and IMO, is still going to have issues for a while on our phone. The rom I recommend is slimsaber 4.4.4 by fusionjack. Or if you don't like this, try neatrom aosp. KitKat is way more polished than Lollipop and works the way it should. It still has plenty of support (as in there are custom kernels available) for custom kernels (like me ) and developers.
However, KitKat is not perfect for our device just like every other Android version. If you require the YouTube app, you will have to use a youtube mod of an older version, or if you require Skype, you may face issues. GPS can be unreliable, but I guess this is the same with LP.

+1 for what @gsstudios said
You could also try trimming your device. That may stop a lot of lags
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
From what I saw, it will take a long time for the Lollipop is stable for our GT I9100.
Following the suggestions of you, I returned to KIT KAT, and installed the "[ROM] [MIUI 6] [4.4.4] [I9100] [Blackra1n] [5.7.20] [STABLE] [ROM]
"I'm using it for two days, and did not notice any lag or Bug without mecionar the look is amazing that it has ...
Unfortunately I will have to give up some Lollipop resources for now.
I installed the slimsaber you suggested, however I found it very simplistic ROM. If I have a problem with MIUI, I will migrate to it.
Actually "memory killers" kill the speed of the smartphone. When processes are loaded in RAM, they are ready to be active on demand. If you kill them, before to be ready to start they have to be loaded again in RAM. Android isn't Windows. It doesn't need of a lot of free memory. More RAM is occupied, more fast are the processes. If more free RAM is necessary, kernel will free it.
