After I selected 5Ghz only, the option to select the wifi frequency band is no longer there?? Help!!
These are the default options which are supposed to be available :
Network notification: By default, when Wi-Fi is on, you receive notifications in the Status bar when your device detects an open Wi-Fi network. Uncheck this option to turn off notifications
Avoid poor connections: Check to automatically avoid using networks with a low-quality or intermittent Internet connection. <- this one as well!
Keep Wi-Fi during sleep: To conserve mobile data usage, your device stays connected to Wi-Fi when the screen goes to sleep.
Touch this option to change this default behavior: either to stay connected to Wi-Fi only when the device is connected to a charger (when battery life isn't a problem), or never to
Stay connected to Wi-Fi during sleep. The latter choice is likely to increase mobile data usage. You may want to revisit this setting if you receive a notification that you're approaching your specified mobile data limit.
Wi-Fi frequency band: Specify Automatic, 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz frequency bands <-- this option is missing

Hi there, I am wondering if it is possible for the XDA to work in Australia. I have the upgraded rom from Xda devellopers and have removed the sim lock, but it dosen't seem to pick up the Aus networks.
Any help would be great
What for device are you using? PW10A or PW10B?
Maybe it's a problem with the GSM-networks. PW10A is for 900/1800MHz and PW10B for 900/1900
Have you tried to search manual for any available services?
Stefan
How do I find out the PW10a or b info.... The other version info is as follows
ROM Version; 3.17.03 ENG
Radio Version; 4.21.00
Protocol Version ; 32s54
Sorry, found it....PW10A1
I am guessing no one has any help or info about this. what a wasted purchase.
The XDA/XDA II/XDA III (IIs) do work in Australia.
Where is your XDA from, country? What network are you trying to connect too down here?
I have been told it is from the UK. I purchased it 3rd hand so I can only go by what the previous owner has told me.
In the auto config screen, I get the options for 02 network from UK, Ireland, De and a few others.
I am wanting to connect it to an Optus network preferrably, but any would do.
I have tried Optus (plan and prepaid) and telstra plan, but no signal shows up.
Just clarifying, you have tried Optus and Telstra phone services or data services?
You verified the SIM's worked in another phone?
The sims are able to be swapped into various phones, I have a panasonic gd50, a nokia 7250 and a motorola v600, and an ericson (can't remember what model) and they all work in each other.
The sims are set up as phone service, ie: normal mobile usage, I have even tried an optus prepaid in it.
I am only wanting to use it for the phone service, gprs and net usage is not of interest as yet.
Howdy, I have the same model and it works fine on Telstra. I originally had problems with SIM lock and GID lock, but after upgrading to 2003 from lumpistefans kitchen I've had no problems with it! Good reception and minimal drop out. It's not a waste of money. The ROM i used was the O2 one and did not use the auto config, it finds it for itself and aknowledges the telstra network fine. If you go to an Optus shop they should be able to help, they also have pretty good phone help and should be able to talk you through the settings,
Good luck!
Peace,
Robert
Thanks Ryap. I am thinking that it should automatically find the network tho......is this not the case
I know on XDA II and PDA2K you can select the network or set it to Automatic. Might want to check this setting.
SETTINGS > PERSONAL TAB > PHONE > NETWORK TAB

I think you are confusing the autoconfig of the device with the network setup for the phone.
You can cancel the autoconfig that appears at the end of a hard reset. This just gives you some quick settings for the GPRS and MMS networks - you can add these later after talking to Optus.
Once the SIM is in, you need to make sure the phone is on by switching OFF flight mode. This kicks the phone in. Then if Optus is not picked up as your default network you just go into Settings>Phone>Network and then use the Find Network button and then the Set Networks button. After that you can check the Automatic Network selection button to make the settings stay.

Hi all, thanks for the support so far,
As of now, I can't get any network at all....still.
when i insert the sim and enable the phone it says serching, but thats about it.
I have no idea where to find the flight mode, and when I click on the phone in the settings screen, nothing happens.
I don't get any carrier name or logo come up and appear.
Cheers
Michael
On XDA II (don't have XDA) when the phone senses a service it puts four vetical bars next to the speaker/volume icon at the top of the screen. If you tap the bars it should bring up a pop-up, this is where there should be a line (link) to click on that says "Turn off flight mode". I am not sure if this is part of the original XDA though.
When you clicked on the PHONE icon under SETTINGS it didn't do anything?
At the top bar, next to the speeker, I have a tree type logo and when i tap it it says searching. When i open the phone and then click options, it freezes for about 5 maybe 7 mins and then the settings screen opens, from there it freezes and i can't select anything
Hi all.
I am greatful for you help and support up till now.
I have managed to fixmy problem.
When putting the xda devellopers rom on the pda, ther eis an option calledGSM Band in the programs list.
Well turns out it was set to 900, so i changed it to 900/1800 and rebooted the xda.
WELL HEY PRESTO, IT FOUND THE OPTUS NETWORK
So all is good and all works.
As I mentioned before I am greatful for all the support and thankyou to all who racked their brains over this.
Hello Forum!
I want to limit my phones data traffic to go over one specific network when I am roaming.
I noticed that after you loose signal of the chosen network for some seconds, it doesn't just say there is no network - it switches over to another, stronger network.
Reason for all this is the 3 LikeHome roaming tariff which afaik we more or less exclusively enjoy here in Austria.
Data Traffic, Calls, etc are handled as if you were in Austria - you just have to stay in the '3 LikeHome' network.
Is this doable?
thx

1. Disable Mobile data, then wait for 3-5 minutes
2. Enter Service mode, then change network to WCDMA only, repeat it like 2 times.
Done.
Correctly good luck...

my problem is described here -Can others be so kind as to verify if they are also having an issue with receiving voice calls or SMS while their phones are using the 2G network for data access. (3G and wifi either unavailable or turned off.)
We have this issue with Orange and I have tested it on one Sunrise iphone4 and we had the same issue. Which is not surprising since Orange and Sunrise are operated by the same staff. It does work correctly over Swisscom.
I raised this case with Orange over one month ago and they still have given me no concrete feedback as to why their network behaves like this.
(FYI this is a network issue and not related to any phone configuration).
Feel free to harass Orange about this. It might get them to pull their fingers out a bit. When I raised the case it took me about 10 calls to their support plus 2 visits to Orange shops to finally get a technician who was capable of understanding this simple but critical issue.
EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. Force phone to use GSM (2G) mode only or be in an area with no 3G coverage, or if your phone chooses to use the 2G network
2. Disable switching to wifi:
3. Connect to 2G packet data, download email or download webpages: Status Bar-> spinning wheel
4. While packet data is connecting, using another phone place a call to your phone
5. After packet data has connected, using another phone place a call to your Phone
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
You expect the packet data connection to either DROP or be SUSPENDED (depending
on network capabilities) and for the phone to ring indicating an incoming call or SMS.
ACTUAL OUTCOME:
The packet data connection persists and remains active; the phone does not ring
and the call is handled by the network as if the phone was unreachable (for most
users this means forwarding to voicemail).
REPRODUCIBILITY:
always; no exceptions.
This has been tested extensively on the Orange network by me and many other users.
Tested devices which all show the same issue, iPhone4, iPhone3GS, Iphone 3G, several Android models.
(noob, non-techie here) I picked up an MB860 (2.3.6 - 4.5.141) before coming to Vietnam. (I guess I needed the ME860.) Now that I'm here, neither Viettel nor Vinaphone can get the "data to work" (any G) over their networks (wifi does work & can make phone calls). I've monkeyed around with the phone settings including the *#*#4636#*#* wcdma/gsm/etc. settings to no avail. The phone is currently unlocked (factory) and unrooted/stock. Anyone know if there's a way to get this model to work here via the standard settings, new firmware, or rooting? Any help appreciated.
I'm currently in Vietnam and using an rooted AT&T one, running TopSmart 1.3. It work like a charm without any change on baseband, so I guest you don't have to worry.
Your phone is a Korean version or AT&T ? Are you in Hanoi ? May be I could give some helps.

Hey,
It's an AT&T purchased in the US. I'm not in Hanoi - too bad for me
Based on the specs, and what I've seen about Viettel & Vinaphone frequencies (I guess), this model should work. Being an AT&T phone, on eof the setting selectors is "greyed out" which won't let me select a network. I'm thinking that may be the hitch. I'm a noob so I don't Know what TopSmart is. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

TopSmart is a cook rom. Don't mind.
So in general, you can call (and text also) but no data connection, right ? In US (or wherever your previous country), data connection still ok, the problem have occured just in time you arrived in Vietnam ? Have you changed anything in your phone's setting ? Have you register the 2G/3G service with the mobile network provider (Mobiphone, Viettel or Vinaphone - which you still using) ? - It's importance !
Because you can call, I guest your network setting is alright. Try to go to System setting ~> Wireless and network settings ~> Mobile network and check on the box Data enabled (on top of the screen). Restart your device if required, and then open your browser, connect to google.com for testing.
If it didn't help, please take a screenshot of the Mobile network settings screen and attacht here for more reference.
Best regards.
P/s: please answer all my question for providing me as much information as you could. And finnaly, tell me the name of your mobile network provider in Vietnam you currently using. It could helps.

Corect (call text no data)
Correct (worked in US)
No changes in settings other than APN for viettel and vinaphone
Registered 3G service (had viettel and vinaphone techs try and install 3g sim)
My "Data Enabled" is found under a different menu _Battery and data manager_ Data is enabled. Settings-> Wireless & network settings->Mobile networks->Select network (greyed out - option there to toggle/select but not allowed)
Will try and get screenshot.

On a regular basis (at least once a day), I lose Network connectivity.
The Upstream/Downstream arrows disappear, but I still have 4-5 bars.
Happens Indoors & Outside
Applications report no Network available.
I don't have any power saving apps that disable networks
Android Power saving is disabled.
I'm on 4.1.2, (Vodafone Stock ROM, Unlocked) and this has been happening for a while - from ICS 4.0.1, I believe.
I switched from T-mobile to GiffGaff (O2 UK), but I can't remember if this was happening before the switch.
Unable to make call ("Not registered on Network") when this happens.
Sometimes a toggle of the "Mobile Data" button works, sometimes toggling to "Flight mode" works.
More often than not, this requires a restart. Always fixes it immediately,
Other O2/GiffGaff users are unaffected, so not a network issue.
Any idea if this is an S3 issue, a GiffGaff (O2) issue (any other sufferers on different handsets), or a combination of both?!
Cheers
Sean (En_croute)
Ask your provider for a new SIM, might be SIM problem
Check your O
2 network coverage where its a problem .
You should also check you are using Giffgaff settings in mobile networks .

Setting changed earlier today (Proxy & Port details)
Still dropping off (this evening)
It's not a network issue (other users & instant restoration on reboot), so any ideas folks?
Are you using any power saving apps?
