Hey guys, I am using my S3 to USB tether to my computer, for two reason:
1. My wireless card is ****ting the bed
2. I get great speeds from it to the computer through my home wifi.
That being said, has anyone had experience with getting tasker to detect the usb charging state (i know how to get there), and then:
1. Unlock the screen
2. Open the settings menu for Wireless and Networks // or turn on USB tether?
The profile i tried says "Warning: Action USB Tether failed", but manually activating it works just fine.
Just curious, thanks!

I've been using the latest release of Tesla Coil, which really is a great ROM and I have had no problems up until now.
I have been tethering just fine via USB, using HTC's Internet Connection Mode whilst we change ISPs, but for some reason this morning it refuses to work.
I plug in the USB cable, I get the prompt on the phone and select ICM and then... nothing! The device isn't detected by Windows 7 (it had been coming up as HTC Ethernet Adapter 9k, or something similar.)
I tried enabling it by going into Settings -> Wireless & Networks - Internet Connection Mode, I check the box, get the little Mobile Hotspot prompt and then ICM becomes unchecked again.
I'm pretty new to Android and really, I solved my problem by using Barnacle Wifi Tether, but I really want to learn why this has happened and how to fix it
I was wondering how I enable USB tethering on my Mac? I followed the settings on the link below, however I installed VMWare Fusion so I could root my phone, and when I plug it in with the USB cable there I do not get a window that pops up saying a new network is found. Therefore, when I go to System Preferences>Network, I am selecting the "Built-in Serial Port" to add a new interface. Does anyone know how to do it?

Also, I have USB debugging enabled and I have tried with and without USB tethering enabled...
I don't have an apple, but I am pretty sure the process should be the same from the phone side. You should have USB debugging on, then after you plug the phone into the computer you need to go to settings>wireless & network>tethering & portable hotspot>USB tethering and make sure the box is checked. After I check that box, the new network device shows up on my computer, so it should be the same on a mac.
However, I'm not sure the rest of that guide will work for our phone. The APN this phone uses is completely different.
I do all of that on my phone, but when I enable USB tethering I do not see the network interface, so I add a new network and I entered these settings but when I try to connect it will not:

Eh, nevermind. Read the original post incorrectly.
MACs are technically running Linux now in days
and I know by a fact our phone works perfectly for USB tethering without any special settings
on my Linux laptop, i just plug in my phone to the normal USB cable,
go to the phone settings to enable USB tethering, and Ta ta... a new network connection automatically becomes available on the network menu
and if select to use the new "network card" or "network interface" then my internet uses the phone as the new wireless network, and no, it's not the same as a WiFi, it sees it as another Ethernet device
my computer doesnt show the phone in the network settings. what can i do to get it to show up?

Technically yes but practically I've never got native USB tether working on a Mac except with HTC sense ROMs. So far I've been using an app called easytether.
Hello everyone,
I'm encountering problems with my S3. I have aokp_i9300_nightly_2013-06-15 rom installed.
When i connect my phone to my laptop using the factory usb cable, it only charges the device.
I tried removing kies and all drivers from my computer but it didnt help.
Also i dont see any options in my notifications area when i connect it. When i go to usb connection modes (MTP, PTP) i check/tick MTP but when i go back and go to the connection modes again, it is unchecked.
I have usbdebug enabled.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Samsung SIII tethering to Windows 8.
I have a similar problem tethering to a new Windows 8 laptop. Will the above suggestion apply?
I have recently purchased a Windows 8 laptop and I am having issues tethering my Samsung Galaxy S3 for an internet connection. When I try to tether via Wi-Fi the laptop shows 5 bars of connection strength, however, my laptop also advises me it is a limited connection and I am unable to access the internet.
I spoke to Samsung and they suggested downloading KIES, which I did. This did not change the situation as far as tethering via Wi-Fi, however, after carrying out a USB cable troubleshooting on the KIES program I did manage to get a connection via USB, but it is short lived and disconnects.
Tethering via Bluetooth is not successful at all.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem and is there an easy fix.
I am in a remote area which has good Telstra 3G coverage and rely on my mobile as an internet connection.
Any assistance would be welcomed.
Is it possible?
dd-wrt allows you to create these. I was wondering if it is possible and if so can you do it where your running the hotspot app for other users and connecting to another wifi access point which is your phones default route. the other users are routed through the phone data.
For example I'm at work and visting person asks "can I get internet access" and you say "corp policy is not to allow you but you can jump on a hotspot" and you enable your hotspot for him through your phone but your phone is connected to corpwlan1. your default route is out to cropwlan1 for your phone but the visitors default route is out your phone data connection via hotspot from cell provider.
all this is done on the phone. phone only no other hardware. (unless you can plug a usb wifi adapter into the mirco sd port of the phone with an otg adapter)
Spacedesk is a desktop app that allow to make your device into another monitor & control mouse
Need a wifi point near my desktop pc (for lower latency), so i wanted to use my phone in usb tethering since wifi hotspot don't work / stop working after some times on pc with power management setting off (when i try to connect, it just do nothing and still say "Secured" but not "Connected")
So i want my phone to redirect everything from the wifi hotspot, to the usb tethering and the same thing in the opposite way, i know i can use proxy server, but i don't know how to configure it to make it work with spacedesk.
Any idea?
spacedesk port is 28252
